Chapter 23: Not A Nightmare

last update Fecha de publicación: 2026-09-10 14:42:06

I wake up with a deep gasp, my heart pounding so fast as if I’ve just run a marathon in my sleep. For a few seconds, I don't move. I just sit there, taking in deep breaths, trying to fill my lungs with adequate air.

I'm warm. I'm in my bed. In my bedroom I glance around at the curtains, the dresser, among other framed photographs sitting on the nightstand, I focus on the one of me and grandma hugging each other. For one stupid, blissful moment, I convince myself it was a nightmare. Then I move

My gaze drifts toward the floor. I didn't do anything suspicious with Lex. I open my mouth to argue—although I’m not telling her that I sucked Mask’s dick and almost died—but she stops me with a wave of her hand. “Never mind. I don't want the details. I need you to pick up your grandma Liza from the airport. She’ll be arriving this afternoon.” “Me? Why me?” “The seating arrangement has changed. Your aunt Carla wants to sit closer to the dance floor, and Claire is upset about the flowers. Everyone’s busy. You're the only one with nothing to do.” “Excuse me. I’ve got plenty of things to do.” “Really? Like what?” I pause, thinking hard. I can't answer. Nothing comes to my mind. Damn it. I hate it when she’s right. “Mom… We have a driver who can pick her up.” “He’s busy too.” “But Mom—” “Be ready by three. Get her a gift on your way.” She slams the door on her way out. I stare at it, completely speechless. How fucking great. I no longer have to endure just her two bitchy sis

In my bedroom I glance around at the curtains, the dresser, among other framed photographs sitting on the nightstand, I focus on the one of me and grandma hugging each other. For one stupid, blissful moment, I convince myself it was a nightmare. Then I move my wrists. I register intense pain immediately. “Ouch,” I mumble under my breath as I slowly pull my hands out from beneath the covers and stare at my wrists. Red marks circle them. My eyes widen in shock. I kick the duvet away and draw my knees up to my chest. That’s when I notice the tiny cut on my knee. I examine my ankles. Red marks circle them too. My fingers tremble as they travel toward my throat. A thin, tender cut crosses the skin.“No. No, no, no, no,” I whisper, panic rising. My jaw

Mask begins to make delicate strokes with his tongue, as he makes good on his promise to taste me. “No, please. Don’t—”My objection shatters in my throat as his tongue sweeps over sensitive nerves with a relentless accuracy that makes my back arch off the damp soil. Despite my begging him to stop, my body seems to be doing the complete opposite of what someone who wants him to stop would do.I sob, feeling helpless. My mind screams at me to fight, to tear my legs away, but my body is pinned under the weight of his control. I start to writhe around him—not to get away—but to fight the swelling sensation his mouth inflicts upon me. “Ohhhh, fuck.. Mmhh,” a moan slips from my throat like a shameless wanton.Every stroke of his mouth is an intended claim, an intimate violation that draws unabashed gasps from my chest despite the horror twisting in my gut.I am Elena Beaumont. I am Elena. I am…“Ohhh, fuck… yeah, hmmm.”I can't help it. I’m embarrassed to admit how good it feels. My squi

I hear his voice. It’s low, almost gentle. “You shouldn’t have let him stay.”I think I’m dreaming.No.This isn't a dream. It’s a nightmare. And Mask is the monster. I can't believe I dreamed that he got into my room. How did he even find out where I live? Scratch that. Why the fuck is he still on my mind?I try to turn my head. Try to force my eyes open, desperate to escape the nightmare and stop seeing Mask. Suddenly, cold water crashes over my face. I jerk awake with a strangled gasp. My lungs burn as I cough, blinking furiously against the water dripping from my eyelashes. I’m shivering from intense cold. For several seconds, I have no idea where I am. Then I see the trees. Tall trunks surround me, their branches twisting overhead and blocking most of the moonlight. The ground beneath me is damp and cold. Leaves cling to my nightgown. What the fuck? This isn't my bedroom. Panic surges through me. I try to sit up. Pain shoots through my wrists. I feel the tightness of a cord ar

“You shouldn't be here. If my mother sees you—” “I just came from downstairs. Your mother is in the garden fucking her husband. I didn't plan on seeing that.” My breath catches. I don't know why anger floods my veins. My grip tightens on the door. I don't care anymore. I yank it open, walking back into the room with hot rage stirring in my chest. Lex enters the room in unhurried grace, closing the door behind him. “Why are you doing this?” My voice trembles, though I fight with everything I have to keep it steady. “Playing the protective boyfriend in front of my family... putting your hands on me... talking down to Nathan. I thought about it. Yesterday, you didn't care about me. You rejected my proposal. You looked at me like I was a major inconvenience. And today, you looked at me like I was the light of your life. I can't seem to wrap my head around it. What is your game? What do you want from me?” Lex stops right in front of me. He towers over my frame. For a second, his pres

  • His Hidden Obsession    Chapter 19: Ten Feet Away

By afternoon, the mansion looks nothing like it did in the morning. People are practically everywhere. Florists carry enormous arrangements through the entrance. Workers climb ladders to hang decorations. Someone is arguing about table arrangements in the dining room. Music plays softly somewhere upstairs while staff move furniture around. The entire house smells like fresh flowers. The wedding after-party will be held here. The wedding itself isn't even until Saturday. This is just Tuesday. But since it’s Claire’s wedding celebration, everything has to be perfect before the big day. I sit on one of the couches in the sitting room, watching everything unfold. Lex is across from me. He’s been there for hours, talking to Nathan. Nathan looks nervous. Every time I look up, Lex is already looking at me. I quickly look away.I still haven’t told him about the bathroom. Or the vomiting. Or the fact that sitting beside him this morning triggered memories I’d rather bury. He hasn’t asked. M
