Chapter 4: Fiery Temper

14–17 minutes

-ANNA -

I push the gas pedal down more as I speed down the road towards the high school, cursing myself for forgetting to set my alarm last night. It wasn’t until Aunt Beatrice knocked on my door that I had woken up this morning. By the time I would make it to the building, my first period would be almost over. I hit the steering wheel with my hand in anger. “COME ON!” I yell at the old man in the beaten up pickup truck that pulled out in front of me. I literally want to beat my head against the steering wheel as the old man drives ten under the speed limit. I know! There’s only two days left of the school year, so I shouldn’t be flipping out but being late absolutely drives me nuts! I grip the steering wheel tightly and count to ten, hoping that the old man would eventually turn.

In spite of being late this morning, Lucifer, or whatever his name truly is, was no where to be seen. So my day was already looking better. I will admit for some reason, I woke up with an empty feeling this morning. Like something was missing. I just assumed that I was hungry and the empty feeling was my stomach telling me to feed my face...which I didn’t have time to do as I rushed to get out the door.

Ten minutes later, I’m finally pulling into the parking lot of the high school. After parking and turning off the car, I take my seat belt off and open the door. Grabbing my shoulder bag, I slam the door shut and begin jogging towards the entrance. As I round the corner of the building I run face first into the very solid chest of the demon I thought had given up on me after last night. Hells bells!

Lucifer stands there looking fresh in a tailored black suit with a crimson collared dress shirt and a smirk playing on his handsome face. “In a hurry, love?”

I growl out in frustration, “I’m late! Move or so help me I will set your ass on fire!”

He raises an eyebrow. “You sure you’re not part demon? That growl was pretty demonic sounding.”

I glare at him. Gods, give me strength to not flame broil his ass!

Lucifer looks me over and lets out a low appreciative whistle. “I must say, you pull the just rolled out of bed after a good shag look very well.”

As I said before, I was in a big rush this morning. I had to choose between brushing my hair or brushing my teeth, so I brushed my teeth and tossed my hair on top of my head in a messy bun. I threw on a pair of black skinny jeans and a white t-shirt with a pair of sandals. As I drove, I managed to put on some pink lip gloss I found in the center console in hopes it would make me look less like a zombie. I close my eyes and count to ten. When I open my eyes, he’s still there looking at me with a smile. “What are you doing here?” I groan.

He shrugs. “Attending school with my mate.”

I can’t help myself and I snort with laughter. “Why would you want to do that? Don’t you have some souls to torture in Hell? Maybe some maidens to ravish in The Underworld?”

He pretends to think then replies, “First of all, my generals tend to the souls in my absence. Second, since I found out that I had a mate, which has been a little over three months ago, I have not lain with anyone. I am now a one woman man for the rest of eternity.”

I raise my eyebrows in surprise. He can’t be serious. “What about when someone summons you to have s*x with them? You just, turn them down?” I say incredulously. This was the Devil that is known for his insatiable lust right? I am not convinced but I will humor him.

Lucifer lets out a heavy sigh. “I never liked those spells and curse whoever decided it was necessary to create such a thing to waste my time. I usually send an Incubus in my place.”

I study him for a moment, not noticing any deceit. Wow, he’s serious. “Why would you give up all those women for me? You’re the Devil aren’t you? Don’t you like having a variety?”

It was his turn to study me. “What can I say? You’re all I want, Anna.” The sincerity in his voice throws me off. When I look into his dark eyes, I see longing. This guy doesn’t even know me!

“Three months, huh? That’s a long time for someone with your reputation.” I say, continuing to humor the fact that he thinks he is the Lucifer. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get to see the real Devil drag him to Hell, even if it is a shame to lose such a fine looking male specimen.

Lucifer chuckles. “Well, it hasn’t been easy, especially now that I’m around you. All I want to do is tear your clothes off and make you moan my name over and over again.”

I feel the blush rising on my cheeks. I can’t stop the vivid images popping into my brain of us together and it makes me blush even deeper. f**k my imagination! Where the hell did those come from? I must have look like a tomato by now. When I look back at the demon, a knowing smirk is on his face.

Stay out of my head!

That’s quite the imagination you have there. Lucifer’s husky voice replies in my head. You could skip school and I can make that happen...I could give you more pleasure than you could even imagine. Us being mate’s intensifies the pleasure tenfold. It would be ultimate bliss for the both of us.

I gulp. Why does he affect me so much? I shake my head. “I have to go to class. You can’t be here. You will stick out like a sore thumb.” Yeah, cause no one in the school can afford an expensive ass suit like he’s wearing, nor is anyone even close to his inhumanly good looks.

“I’ll stay in my incorporeal form, they won’t be able to see or hear me.

I sigh. “Great, so people will only think I’m talking to myself. That’s great! Crazy girl coming through!”

Lucifer smiles as I walk by him. I can feel his heated gaze on me, particularly on the lower half of my body.

“Stop looking at my ass!” I snap at him, knowing exactly where he’s looking. His deep chuckle only confirms it.

Once I make it inside, I head towards my locker. The bell hasn’t rang yet so the hallways were still clear. Lucifer leans against the lockers and watches me quietly. I grab the calculus book out of the locker. s**t! My final is today and I had been too occupied last night, with a demon that shall not be named, to study for it. Mr. Lewis would be the only teacher to have a final the last two days of school. I groan and shut my locker. I can pull this off. I’ll still have an A in the class even if I fail.

Why do you attend a mortal school?” Lucifer asks me curiously.

I put the book in my shoulder bag and lean my head back against the lockers. “It makes me feel normal.”

“You’re not normal. You’re a powerful witch. Your focus should fully be on the studies at the coven...not with these flesh bags.”

I snort. “Flesh bags?” I roll my eyes then sigh. “You sound exactly like my Aunt Zelda.” I shift my feet as I wait for the bell to ring. “I’ve managed to balance both the mortal school and my studies at the coven pretty well. I’m not behind on either, thank you very much.”

“Your aunt sounds wise. She only wants the best for you.” He pauses as the bell rings and the halls start filling with students. Lucifer gives a look of disgust at them before following me towards my class. I smirk. Most demons hate being around mortals. They view them as the lowest of the low. “As for your calculus test, you could always cheat.”

I roll my eyes. “Yes, that would be the easiest option wouldn’t it? I’m not a cheater though. I will use whatever part of my brain that decides to function today and completely wing this test and pray to the calculus gods that I get a decent grade.”

“You have an A in the class, why are you worried?” The demon asks and I stop to glare at him for reading my mind again. “You honestly try to be too perfect, love.”

“Who are you talking to?” Samantha asks walking up to me. She clearly has no idea the demon is here.

“Myself, obviously.” I glance at a smirking Lucifer.

Samantha’s brows furrow in confusion. “Are you okay? You seem...frazzled?” She says taking in my appearance.

I purse my lips together. “I’m about to wing this calculus final. The calculus gods better be on my side as many hours as I’ve devoted to this useless class.”

“Oh honey, you should have prayed to the Dark Lord, I’m sure he would have sent you some sort of aid. We are his favorite beings after all.” Samantha says walking into the class with me.

Yeah, thanks Sam. I scowl as I hear Lucifer’s laughter behind me echoing in the halls. “Yeah, like his dumb ass knows calculus. He would probably encourage me to cheat.” I say, looking over my shoulder at him and sticking out my tongue.

“Ouch!” Lucifer says sitting in the vacant desk beside me. “Just so you know, I am keeping a mental tally of all the insults you throw my way. Eventually, when we go to our kingdom, I’m going to tie you to the bed and spank you for each insult. By my calculation, you won’t be able to sit for months at the current rate you’re going.”

I shoot him a glare. “Is s*x all you think about?!”

“Anna?”

I turn to my right and Samantha is looking at me with a worried look. I realize that she thinks I’m talking to myself still. I sigh and whisper to her since the class is still pretty empty. “I’m being haunted by a demon.”

Her eyebrows raise in surprise. “Not another Incubus?”

I shake my head and mutter.“No but he does think he’s God’s gift.”

“That’s because I am baby.” Lucifer winks at me and I roll my eyes dramatically.

“What does he want?” Samantha asks leaning towards me.

“Oh you know, the usual. My soul. My body. My v-card. Wants to take me on a vacation to Hell...wants to be my baby daddy too.” That’s pretty much the extent of a mate.

“What?!” Samantha looks over at Lucifer who’s just smirking. Of course, she can’t see his smirking ass.

I shrug nonchalantly. “What can I say? I’m just that lucky.”

“Speaking of babies...” Lucifer starts.

I hold my finger up to him to silence him. “Don’t! I swear you are this close... “ I hold up an inch of air between my thumb and pointer finger. “To getting your ass incinerated! Let me fail this calculus test in peace!” I snap at him.

I hear Samantha snicker.

Lucifer chuckles. “You’re so feisty. I love it!”

“If he’s such a bother, why haven’t you killed him yet?” Samantha whispers as the room begins to fill with students.

I grit my teeth. Yeah, why didn’t I think about that before? “I can’t. Every time I try to my body won’t cooperate. He’s like my kryptonite.”

“That’s...odd.” The brunette says before turning in her seat to face the front of the classroom. “That’s not like you.”

“Don’t I know it.” I mutter. Mr. Lewis walks into the classroom holding the thick stack of test packets. I groan as he puts them on his desk. “Just strike me down now!”

Samantha giggles. “You have an A in the class. Why are you worried? Even if you fail this test, you’re still gonna be Ms. Perfect.”

I shoot her a glare and she giggles again. I look over towards Lucifer to find him not in the desk. Confused, I look around and stop when I see him standing behind Mr. Lewis’ desk looking down at the stack of test packets. Of course, everyone is completely oblivious to him except me.

What are you doing?!

He looks up at me and smiles mischievously. Helping you.

Helping me? Wha...

I watch as he puts his pointer finger to the stack of test packets. A few seconds later, the stack of paper catches on fire. Lucifer casually makes his way back to me as a frantic Mr. Lewis takes his coat off and starts trying to smother the fire. After a few minutes, a clearly out of breath Mr. Lewis stares down at the ashes on his desk in shock. He looks up and clears his throat. Mr. Lewis adjusts his glasses nervously before addressing the class. “I’m not sure...what just happened.” He glances back at the ashes. “But...I do not have any extra copies of the test.”

The students that were in shock a few moments ago start cheering and clapping.

Lucifer leans down towards me and whispers in my ear. “You’re welcome, love.”

I don’t look at him but I mutter, “Thanks.”

Mr. Lewis dismisses the class do to having maintenance coming in and trying to figure out how the hell the fire started.

I open my locker and put my useless calculus book up. Samantha’s locker is right beside mine. Once she puts her book up she looks at me excitedly. “Was that your friend?” Referring to the fire in calculus class. “Because those flames weren’t blue like yours.”

“That would be him.” I say eyeing the demon that is standing too close to me, looking down at me with some sort of emotion. He’s almost a foot taller than my five foot, eight inch height, so he towers over me.

What are you looking at?

A sexy smile spreads across his face. You like me. Admit it. He inches his face closer to mine as he leans his arm on the lockers above my head, causing my heart rate to speed up. You can’t hide your feelings from me. The mate bond won’t allow it.

Lucifer continues to lean down like he’s about to kiss me and I can’t do anything but watch. What is wrong with me? Do I actually want him to kiss me? My brain says no but my body is betraying me.

“Anna?” Samantha asks.

I snap my head towards my friend at the last second and I silently thank her for saving me. I hear Lucifer groan in frustration and curse under his breath.

“Yeah?”

The brunette eyes me carefully. “Are you okay? You look, flustered.

Probably because I about let my demon stalker kiss me. “I’m just...hot.” I say lamely. Lucifer entering my life has definitely thrown off my game. My excuses are usually on point. Now, they’re just embarrassing.

She raises a questioning eyebrow but doesn’t address my flustered state any further. “Man, I need to get me a demon stalker who will set s**t on fire for me!”

I roll my eyes. “You don’t need to summon anymore demon anything.” I say recalling the last spell we did together that ended up with me be hounded by Incubus.

“You don’t need to worry about them anymore.” Lucifer tells me as he takes a step back and straightens his jacket.

I furrow my brows in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“I took care of them, my love. They won’t be troubling you anymore. Nobody touches what is mine and lives.” He says casually, like it’s the most normal thing in the world to talk about killing people.

“What did he say?” Samantha asks curiously.

I feel my jaw drop at his words. He actually killed the Incubus. I look at Samantha. “Um, he took care of the Incubus problem.” I’m going to spare her the details.

Her green eyes widen in disbelief. “Wow, he’s gotta be powerful.”

“Yup.” I say popping the ‘p’.

“Best not piss him off then.” Samantha winks at me and the demon standing in front of me chuckles.

I roll my eyes. “Let’s go to the gym.” I say trying to distract her. Gym is our next class. “We can change early.”

She nods in agreement and we head towards the gym. I can only keep my fingers crossed that this day flies by without anymore chaos.
