Confusion washed over me as I stared keenly at him, trying to figure out what was running through his mind. But no matter how long I stared, his expression remained unreadable. “Alpha Lucas,” one of the Elders spoke. “What do you mean by the union won’t take place? Is there anything you have to say?” Father cleared his throat, adjusting the sleeve of his suit with an unsettling calmness. The entire chamber fell silent, and even the air felt heavier. “Yes, elders. There’s something I need to say before these unions proceed any further,” he answered firmly. I noticed Lucian’s jaw tightened instantly. The smile that was once plastered on his face had disappeared. Though my heart pounded wildly against my ribs as I wondered what Father was up to, I couldn’t help but feel glad about Lucian’s current mood. “Speak then, Alpha
Lucian's POVAlpha Lucas couldn't say anything. He just stared at Father as though the words he had just said sounded foreign to him. "Alpha Alexander," one of the Elders called. "Don't you think your terms are quite hard? Is that necessary?" "Yes, Elder. It is. This is just to keep both packs in check. Unless either of us is having the intent of betraying the other, I do not know why anyone will be against my terms. Am I right, Alpha Lucas?" My father asked, facing him. A flicker of nervousness quickly flashed across Alpha Lucas' eyes, before he masked it back with his cold demeanor. "That's right," the Elders agreed, nodding their heads thoughtfully. Then, they faced Alpha Lucas. "What you say, Alpha Lucas? Do you agree with Alpha Alexander's terms?"Alpha Lucas didn't speak instantly. His eyes were on Kael, staring at him intently as if he was scared of something—something I couldn't quite wrap my head around. "Yes, I agree," he finally gave in. "Now, since all the parties i
Lucian's POVFather. It was truly him. I hadn't expected him to show up after vehemently refusing to give his blessings. Before heading to the council of elders chamber, I had gone to my father and narrated everything to him."What? Your sister is pregnant for Alpha Lucas' son?" He asked in disbelief, rising to his feet from his throne where he had sat. "Yes, Father. She is," I confirmed. "No, that can't be possible. How did they meet?" He probed, finding it hard to believe all I had said. "I believe they met at the Lunarcrest Academy. One thing led to another and they fell in love," I explained, watching as my father paced the room. "Damn it!" He yelled, slamming his fist against the table. "How could Vivienne do this to me? How could she have fallen in love with an enemy out of all the men out there?" He lamented, his chest rising and falling as he ran his hand through his hair. "You," he turned to face me. "Did you know about this from the onset? Or did you put her up for
Kael's POV My father shot me a murderous glare—one that was clearly to warn me not to misbehave. I reluctantly dragged my feet to where my pack members were seated and had a seat on an empty chair beside my father. My father rose on his seat, adjusted his tie before walking to the far end of the chamber where the elders sat. “Long live the Elders,” my father greeted, bowing his head and the rest of us echoed in unison, rising on our feet. “Rise, Alpha Lucas,” one of the elders said, gesturing with his hand. “Thank you, Elders,” Father appreciated, lifting his head. And immediately he did, we all sat down. “So Alpha Lucas, why have you requested for this impromptu sitting? Is anything going on with your pack?” Another elder asked. My father cleared his throat, getting prepared to speak. As much as I tried focusing on the matter at hand, I couldn't bring myself to. My eyes just kept drifting to Aria and Lucian and if only looks could kill, Lucian would have been buried
Kael’s POV “Well done, Alpha Lucas. I knew you would make the right choice," Lucian said with a devilish smirk displayed at the corner of his lips. My chest rose and fell heavily, my heart threatening to burst out anytime. “No, Father. You cannot agree with this. It’s absurd!” I said, my eyes pleading with him. He slowly turned to face me, his eyes as red as burning charcoal. “Do you know what’s absurd?” My father said, pointing at me as he took slow and deliberate steps toward me. His voice was low and dangerous. He stared at me like a hungry lion getting ready to pounce on its prey and devour it. Knowing how ruthless my father could be whenever he was angry, I instinctively stepped back, swallowing hard. “You are acting without thinking. If not for you, we wouldn’t be in this situation. So, just shut the fuck up before you complicate matters the more.” “Dare me!” Father roared, his veins bulging violently against his neck. “Say one more word there, and I’ll make you doubt
Kael’s POV For a second, I forgot how to breathe. My legs trembled, threatening to give way beneath me. I’m his and his alone... to claim and control. The statement echoed non-stop in my head, like a curse I couldn't escape from. No. Did she just say that? Did she mean that? I stared into her eyes, desperately searching for something—be it fear, regret, or hesitation. I just needed anything that would tell me she was lying. But her face remained calm and expressionless. That serious look on her face...it terrified me. I had never seen her look at me in that way before—like I disgusted her and meant nothing. “Aria...” her name left my lips slowly, my heart twisting painfully. “What are you saying?” She didn't say a word. Instead, she leaned closer, her palm rested on Lucian’s chest. That single act of hers nearly drove me mad. Lucian’s smirk widened. He looked pleased and seemed to be enjoying the torment I was going through. “You heard her clearly,” he said smooth
