Chapter 2

Not saying anything she turned and quickly went to the fridge to pick up what she had come for, and walked away to her son’s room, who was still sobbing.

Pouring the water on the towel and squeezing off a little she gently wiped the child’s face with it before she began breastfeeding him. The child was now calm but his temperatures were still very high.

“If you are still this hot by morning, I will take you to the hospital baby John,” Priscilla said to her son and then moved her attention toward the window, it was locked and the white curtains were unmoving beside the raging wind outside. She looked at the stillness of that curtain and desired to be as still as it was but she had no shield that protected her from the raging wind like the closed window did to the curtains.

She had been married to Mr. Lodipo as soon as she turned 18 not knowing a thing and well kept by her father who was highly feared by everyone, that no man in the city would take a look at her especially when she was under 18. Mr. Lodipo took her innocence the very night they were wedded and she had learned to trust him and love him as her husband even though she knew that it was completely out of business that her father had given her to him, as he became the governor soon afterward. He had 5 years of leadership before the next election which was looming just at the corner in a few weeks’ time.

Mr. Lodipo had been good to her and was always very romantic and loving, he always treated her so well, and every time her father asked her how she was, she always responded by telling him what nice things her husband had done for her. She had however begun to feel his coldness soon after she gave birth to baby John and in that first month period of her healing from the operation she had undergone, Mr. Lodipo was no longer thirsty for her as he was before, he barely even touched her some days and she had begun to worry, but she did not let worry get the best of her, for she knew that in marriage there comes a point when what was once exciting will no longer excite.

“So, this is why he has been treating me coldly ever since you were born,” she thought to herself calculating just how long she had Sarah as her nanny it was a few months ago when Baby John was born. Only a tear escaped from her eye and she wiped it off and took a very deep breath, trying to hold it all together. Baby John was still awake moving his legs inside the warm blanket while sucking his mother’s breast.

Mr. Lodipo walked into the room all dressed now, and very worried, Priscilla heard him enter but she did not turn her head to look at him.

“Can I talk to you?” he asked humbly looking at her but she did not even move or respond for a while.

“Priscilla, please don’t tell your father. I can explain. Sarah will leave first thing in the morning.” He went on speaking walking towards where she was and stretched his hands to hold her.

“Why? Or is it because you are afraid of losing this time election?” she finally spoke very calmly, not showing any weakness even though her heart was breaking into a million pieces.

“No, we already agreed that it’s a 10-year contract and I know your father keeps his word. I just don’t want to upset him or involve him when we can talk about this just us two and find a solution” he responded and she smiled mysteriously as if not believing a word he was saying. She knew well enough just how much he relied on her father to win this year’s election just like he helped the last five years, and she also knew he was right in saying his father was definitely going to keep his word, no matter what.

“Tell me something Lodipo were you faking everything the past five years, did you love me or was I just a key to you to the city? Just answer me that I don’t want to know anything else” she insisted. He looked down before turning to her.

“It was all real” he responded and she looked right straight through his greedy eyes for power that were using his very tongue to lie to her. If this was to go public that would definitely ruin his name and his chances of losing to his opponent Mathew would increase.

“No, don’t try to touch me now after depriving me of my conjugal rights all those months just because you were fucking my nanny” she hissed at him when he tried to touch her face gently to convince her.

“I am sorry, my love we can talk about this and find a common ground. It won’t happen again I swear” he tried pleading with her.

“Yes it won’t because we are getting a divorce as soon as you get that seat you want desperately!” she said angrily now almost tearing up.

“Please no, not that. I beg you I will do everything you want me to do to make it up to you, please”

“Okay, we won’t get a divorce in exchange for my freedom. I know you have all those tracks on me, where I go, whom I see, who am talking to…I want all that off me” she said to him looking bravely at him she had never been this brave to him.

“Your father won’t be happy about that”

“He doesn’t have to know it will still remain between us just like this disgrace”

“Okay, what else do you want,” he asked like a very hopeless man.

“Just that, and my separate room. We will only act like a happy family in front of my family and the public”

“Okay, it shall be done,” he said trying to get her to move closer to her but she got up from the bed with the child who had now fallen asleep.

“And you can tell Sarah not to leave I need her to take baby John for a check-up tomorrow, while I run some errands,” she said after placing the child on its cradle.

“Where will you be going?” he asked like he always asked her every time she wanted to leave the house but she was quick to remind him that from now on she doesn’t answer to him and asked him to format all the tracks that were on her. He watched him as he deactivated every track on her car, her phone, and every other electronic.

“That is everything,” he said to her and he smiled at him while she confirmed it all, she was very familiar with these things for she had her father put them all over her.

“Goodnight husband,” she said to him kissing him on his cheeks and she walked in the direction of Sarah’s room who was busy packing.
