Chapter 09

My eyes opened to the familiar ceilings of my old room. My old room? This was Jeff’s Pack House! I jolted awake, sitting up restlessly but then I felt a spark from someone holding my left palm tightly but in a gentle manner.

“Alpha Hansel,” I whispered, staring into those gray eyes full of so much emotion.

“You’re finally awake,” he mumbled with a light sigh following suit, while I stared at my palm that was in between his.

“What happened?” I asked, trying to recall how I got here.

He cleared his throat.

“You fell,” he started and immediately, I recalled how I fell through that thorny hole that clawed me deep as I slid to the ground. And then there was the moonstone and Alpha Hansel yelling my name.

“The moonstone!” I exclaimed weakly.

“I couldn’t get it.” He wriggled his head and guilt haunt me. “You were dying, Elle. I had to choose one.” He paused.

“How—“ my voice trailed off. “How did you do it? It’s not possible to save someone in that forest,”
