Alpha Kieran POV
I'm Alpha Kieran Darkmoor, and I do not share.
For years, the mating games have been a thing of reoccurrence. Every year, unmated she-wolves and omegas were gathered in one place, for fated bonds to manifest with whoever will choose them as mates.
Every year, Lyra attended, hoping, no, foolishly believing that the Moon Goddess had crafted someone for her.
But I ensured that never happened.
No one can have her when she is already mine. She was already mine, created and craved for me and to my taste.
She doesn’t know she's my mate, but it's not her fault; she's wolfless
She thought she was unlucky, cursed. Each time she left the mating games alone, I watched her. The frustration in her eyes always made me feel her loneliness. Lyra was stubborn, but she never questioned why no one ever claimed her.
She remained alone, untouched and unclaimed. And I knew that she would stay that way, until I decided otherwise.
But this year was different, she did not attend, perhaps she had finally given up as she thought no one wanted her. She is always disappointed when she leaves the mating ceremony every year.
I should have let it be. I should have been satisfied, knowing no man would ever have her. But the thought of her absence unsettled me. The mating games had become a ritual where I indulged in my cruel possessiveness, and without her here, something felt…wrong.
So wrong that I just wanted the ceremony to be over soon.
I always look forward to this day, but today was different without her.
She-wolves stood in the clearing, some eager, some, waiting to be chosen. I prowled through the crowd, ignoring the way they averted their gazes, knowing better than to meet my eyes.
Then I saw her. Lyra. She was standing at the corner but immediately our eyes met, in fear, she bowed low, unable to meet my gaze like always.
I always love the fear in her eyes but not today. Everything about her just seemed so off, like she had finally given in to let fate take its course.
Her eyes remained fixed on the ground, her expression unreadable. I could sense her resignation, her acceptance of what fate had in store for her and that she would be alone.
But I knew the truth; she was not alone, she was mine, and I would never let anyone else claim her.
The courtyard of the Blackfang Pack was filled with every ranked member of my Pack. And then, at the edges, stood the omegas.
They barely lifted their heads, their eyes cast downward, bodies stiff as if bracing for yet another night of rejection. I noticed a few had stayed near the courtyard entrance, as though prepared to slip away before the humiliation could fully take hold on them as usual. Amongst them was Lyra. She had no expectations tonight as usual.
I took a step forward, my eyes sweeping across the gathered wolves, and the murmurs died instantly. Silence fell absolutely.
“The mating ceremony,” I began, my voice firm carrying waves through the courtyard, “is not just a tradition. It is a necessity. Through these bonds, we strengthen our Pack, our bloodlines, and our future.”
A few approving nods from the higher ranks. The omegas remained motionless.
“Each of you stands here tonight,” I continued, my gaze cutting across the crowd, “with the chance to claim what is yours. The mate chosen by the Moon Goddess herself. Whether you stand as a warrior, a hunter, or an omega, your value is measured by your loyalty, your strength, and your place within this Pack.”
Some of the lower-ranked wolves straightened ever so slightly, as if the mere thought of acknowledgment gave them the right to hope.
Then, I turned to where Lord Ulric Duskbane stood. He was an older wolf and a high-ranking council member.
“Lord Ulric,” I said, “you will oversee the ceremony.”
He inclined his head respectfully before stepping forward, his hands clasped behind his back as he addressed the crowd.
“Tonight, the selection will proceed in the traditional manner,” he announced. “Wolves will come forward, state their claim, and the bond will be tested. Any disputes will be settled accordingly.”
His sharp gaze swept the ranks, second longer on the warriors before he continued.
“The ranked wolves will have first selection,” he stated, his voice smooth, measured. “Followed by the hunters, then the enforcers. Finally, should there be no claims among the higher ranks, the omegas will be given the opportunity to find their match.”
I watched as the first wolf stepped forward. A warrior, broad-shouldered, his eyes locking onto a female among the ranked wolves and stated his claim. The female hesitated for only a moment before stepping toward him.
The pattern continued, wolves stepping forward, taking what they believed was theirs. Some matches were immediate, the pull of the mate bond undeniable. Others ended in rejection, sending murmurs through the crowd as the rejected ones turned away in quiet humiliation.
But my eyes kept drifting towards Lyra.
Lyra and a few others remained, untouched by the ceremony’s excitement. Unlike the others, she did not even feign interest. She stood, arms crossed over her chest, her messy hair falling in loose waves around her face.
As the final few warriors stepped forward, Ulric glanced toward the lower ranks.
“If there are no further claims among the higher ranks,” he said, his voice steady, “then we will proceed to the next phase.”
A long pause was heard. No one moved.
The hunters shifted uneasily, their eyes darting toward the omegas. I saw the way some of them looked away just as quickly, unwilling to take that step. It was the same every year.
I exhaled slowly, my gaze settling on Lyra once more. There was no disappointment on her face, only the quiet acceptance of someone who had been through this before.
I have claimed What Is Mine.
She is my Lyra and I have cl
aimed her even without her knowledge.
She has no choice, she is made just for me.
Lyra's POV I turned the door knob and slid quietly into the room. Anya was fast asleep, and so was Freya. In the darkness, Saana's bed seemed empty. “Where did they take you?"I almost jumped out of my skin when her palm landed softly on my shoulder. Why was she behind me? Her voice was very low, but soft.“Nothing important. It wasn't Elder Mordecai anyway. Lady Seraphina just wanted to scold me some more." I shuddered at my own response. Is this how I was starting off? Lying to the only person who genuinely cares about me right now? I lowered my head in shame.“Okay. I think you should be off to bed then. The days following today are going to be way longer than you ever imagined," she advised softly.“Why so? Will the hours be added to?" I tried to sound as casual as possible.“The stigma of your situation will make you drag your feet, and you'll think the days are just unnecessarily longer," she explained as she threw the covers over herself. “And be careful of what you say to t
Kieran's POV The night was quieter than I expected it to be. I had hoped that the council would summon me to be questioned, or perhaps advised, about my actions. Was I too rash? I tossed once more in bed, sleep evading my heavy eyelids. But I'm the Alpha, and she is my fated mate. I don't know why she can't sense our mate bond. Are all omegas usually this clueless? How, then, could they find their mates? Did they have their own ways of knowing?I sucked my teeth in frustration and exhaled deeply. There had to be some way.I can already feel the tension radiating from all corners of this palace, and I know it.I can't play safe anymore. I can't keep hiding what I feel for Lyra; it will tarnish her image before the whole Pack. But at the same time, making my interest in her public will put her in the eyes of those who want to harm me.Harming her means only one thing—attacking me. I have to meet with Elder Moonshadow. He'll definitely have something to say to me.I reached for my coat
Lyra's POV I was informed that Elder Mordecai wanted to see me, but does that warrant why I'm being escorted by two hefty men, armed to the teeth? And they won't even speak to me.“Where are you taking me?" I asked again, looking up at both men, from one to the other. They remained silent, none of them spoke to me. The only sounds were just from the echoes of their boots off the stone floor. Something about the atmosphere felt off like it was ice cold—bad omens. They pushed the heavy wooden doors apart, and I could see the top members of the council and for the umpteenth time today, I shuddered. A certain shame washed over me—the shame of knowing that I'd been marked by Alpha Kieran. Lady Saraphina's presence made it worse because she had seen the lack of decency when she caught us in the moment. I could understand her anger, but I wanted to not be the object of it.“She doesn't look too bad; only a bit fragile," Lord Ulric remarked."Silence, old Man!” Lord Mordecai hissed in ann
Lyra's POVI stood outside our chambers long enough to sense that lots of speculation was going on in hushed tones. The tension radiated through the door, and its waves sent chills down my spine. This is something that can't be undone. This is the pain that will mark me as long as I remain in this Pack.I turned the doorknob and walked inside like a ghost, hanging my head low in shame. I could feel all their eyes peeling my skin to see my ugly secrets. My skin crawled at the thought of what they might be thinking of me. Why did my bed actually have to be the last? This is the walk of shame.I sat on my bed, back to them, eyes searching the wall, as if it would provide some covering for me or something.“Lyra, you know we're all not going to pretend like you're doing, right?" Saana’s curt voice felt like a stab to my heart.Another tear escaped my eyes. How much longer could I hold it in, and do so perfectly?“It's not what you think, Saana." “Then, what is it? Because we saw everyt
Kieran’s POVI looked on with a satisfied smirk as red-hot jealousy tore Lady Seraphina from the inside out. What is a potentially powerful Luna, if she has to fight for the love of her much desired Alpha with a lowly Omega? She stared hard and clenched her teeth. “Until you say so?" I didn't reply. I only stared back. She dropped Lyra’s hand carelessly and stomped towards me, angry, but trying to keep it together. She glared at me with glassy eyes.“So, it's true after all?" My thoughts paused and redirected themselves. What was ‘It’ exactly? Whatever it was, it means a whole lot of scandal to me.“Believe everything you hear, Lady Seraphina ,” I taunted. She took another step, almost closing the gap between us completely. Her cheeks shone red, but I didn't let my gaze falter. She should have abandoned the idea of being my Luna since the day I first rebuffed her show of affection towards me. Desperation still filtered densely out of her voice. She was choking back a tear “You da
Lyra’s POV Her wide, shocked eyes darted between Kieran and me, her lips parted as if she wanted to say something and then, she moved. Her hand shot out, fingers closing around my wrist with a grip that sent pain jolting up my arm. Before I could even react, she gave me a slap as I staggered backwards, holding onto my cheek with teary eyes.“You filthy whore,” she hissed. “How dare you? How dare you try to seduce my man?”I barely had time to steady myself before she yanked me forward, her nails digging into my wrist. My body stumbled after her as she dragged me through the doorway and down the corridors, her pace was unrelenting. My legs scrambled to keep up, the sting of her slap still burning on my cheek.I didn’t defend myself, I couldn’t. She wouldn’t give me a listening ear. What audacity did an omega like me have to defend herself against Lady Seraphina? Against the woman who had everything I didn’t, status, power, and attention of the Pack. She was the future Luna. Despite be
