Lyra's POV

I stood outside our chambers long enough to sense that lots of speculation was going on in hushed tones. The tension radiated through the door, and its waves sent chills down my spine.

This is something that can't be undone. This is the pain that will mark me as long as I remain in this Pack.

I turned the doorknob and walked inside like a ghost, hanging my head low in shame. I could feel all their eyes peeling my skin to see my ugly secrets.

My skin crawled at the thought of what they might be thinking of me. Why did my bed actually have to be the last? This is the walk of shame.

I sat on my bed, back to them, eyes searching the wall, as if it would provide some covering for me or something.

“Lyra, you know we're all not going to pretend like you're doing, right?" Saana’s curt voice felt like a stab to my heart.

Another tear escaped my eyes. How much longer could I hold it in, and do so perfectly?

“It's not what you think, Saana."

“Then, what is it? Because we saw everything," Freya pushed, her voice laced with accusation.

My heart raced as I hoped Anya would defend me as she always did.

“Things aren't always as they seem!" My desperation was already getting the better of me. Everything was happening so fast. I felt my throat spasming, so I put my hand to my neck, in an effort to soothe it.

“Oh, please! We already know you've been sleeping around with the Alpha before now. You just got unlucky today."

My whole world stopped. I managed to turn my head and look behind me with my bloodshot eyes.

There stood Anya, arms crossed, with venomous eyes. I shuddered five times over.

“No, not you, Anya. You can't be saying this to me," I pleaded in disbelief, searching her once caring eyes for understanding. They were empty. She approached me, gaining power from the desperation in my voice.

“You are the mouse who was playing with the master cheese, and now, you've been caught. You'll face the consequences, nevertheless. Think of where you've placed yourself."

Freya let out a laughter that pierced my ego.

“On a stage, where all who see her will mock her!"

Those words stung. I never wanted any of this. Since my parents died, I knew I was in for the worst. I never expected anything good to come my way.

“Perhaps, she was too desperate for a mate, and she thought this would be her saving grace," Anya taunted with a cold laugh.

I stepped back again in shame and fear. Shame because there was nothing I could do or say to undo this, and fear because I wasn't safe anymore. My own friends had been turned against me.

Saana was visibly angry, but she was quiet. And then I caught her gaze and searched her eyes, but I wasn't sure what was in them.

“Please, can we stop this? Everyone deserves some grace. Let's not act like we aren't all Omegas. We know how manipulative and ruthless these elites could be,” Saana pleaded on my behalf.

I broke into fresh tears again. The hurt of everything washed over me, with a sharp stab of grief over the loss of my best friend, Anya. Just then, our door opened, and a courtier came in.

“Anya? Freya? You're needed in the kitchen right away."

Anya's face fell in disappointment as she shot me a ‘we’re not done yet’ look. I swallowed hard, and it felt like forcing gravel down my throat.

“Let's go, Anya. We'll be back for her," Freya coaxed as she tugged her out of the room.

Saana came over and sat beside me on my bed. I tried wiping my tears quickly, but they fell all the more as I tried to get rid of them. She handed me her woolen handkerchief.

“I'm so sorry things turned out this way, Lyra. I think I can understand what went on with Alpha Kieran. Some nobles make passes at me at times, but I believe in waiting for the ‘one’."

I sobbed some more and finally hugged her, accepting the comfort she offered. Why it came from her, I know not. I pulled away reluctantly after some time and held her gaze.

“You want to tell me about it now?" She asked in a concerned tone. I nodded and wiped my nose again.

“He sent for me to clean his chambers. When I got there, he wasn't in sight; so I assumed he was out. Only for him to step out a few minutes later from his bathroom with his towel dangerously low on his waist, and droplets of water everywhere."

I felt something stir in me as his image formed in my mind as I narrated the incident to Saana.

I swallowed hard and searched her eyes when I realized that she might tell what I was feeling. She seemed engrossed in the story, and showed a hint of disappointment when I paused abruptly.

“And what happened?" She asked eagerly. My eyes widened in surprise at her unexpected interest in what had really happened. I cleared my throat and continued.

“And I apologized for seeing him in that state. Everything happened so fast, and he marked me. That was when Lady Seraphina barged into his chambers.”

Saana rolled her eyes in disgust. "She's always ruining perfect moments,” she remarked.

I was unexpectedly surprised, and finally felt at peace—at least, someone made me feel like it was love, and not a thing of shame.

"You don't blame me?"

“Why should I?" Saana replied. “These things happen all the time. All I sense here is a beautiful love story, but I really want to know how it plays out and I hope it works out for you,” she continued. "You know the dynamics of our pack, right?"

I nodded.

“Thanks for this, Saana," my voice came out in a hoarse whisper choked with emotion.

She pulled me into a hug again, patting me on the back.

“You deserve it." She pulled away, grasping both my shoulders.

“And no matter what Anya and Freya do to you, just know that I believe you. I might not always be there to speak up for you, but you have to know that I believe you. Is that okay?"

I nodded and smiled sadly, wondering how I didn't see a confidante in Saana all along? Just then, the door opened again.

“Lyra, Elder Mordecai wants to see you now."

Lyra's POV I turned the door knob and slid quietly into the room. Anya was fast asleep, and so was Freya. In the darkness, Saana's bed seemed empty. “Where did they take you?"I almost jumped out of my skin when her palm landed softly on my shoulder. Why was she behind me? Her voice was very low, but soft.“Nothing important. It wasn't Elder Mordecai anyway. Lady Seraphina just wanted to scold me some more." I shuddered at my own response. Is this how I was starting off? Lying to the only person who genuinely cares about me right now? I lowered my head in shame.“Okay. I think you should be off to bed then. The days following today are going to be way longer than you ever imagined," she advised softly.“Why so? Will the hours be added to?" I tried to sound as casual as possible.“The stigma of your situation will make you drag your feet, and you'll think the days are just unnecessarily longer," she explained as she threw the covers over herself. “And be careful of what you say to t

  • His Omega Luna    Chapter 9: A Dilemma

Kieran's POV The night was quieter than I expected it to be. I had hoped that the council would summon me to be questioned, or perhaps advised, about my actions. Was I too rash? I tossed once more in bed, sleep evading my heavy eyelids. But I'm the Alpha, and she is my fated mate. I don't know why she can't sense our mate bond. Are all omegas usually this clueless? How, then, could they find their mates? Did they have their own ways of knowing?I sucked my teeth in frustration and exhaled deeply. There had to be some way.I can already feel the tension radiating from all corners of this palace, and I know it.I can't play safe anymore. I can't keep hiding what I feel for Lyra; it will tarnish her image before the whole Pack. But at the same time, making my interest in her public will put her in the eyes of those who want to harm me.Harming her means only one thing—attacking me. I have to meet with Elder Moonshadow. He'll definitely have something to say to me.I reached for my coat

Lyra's POV I was informed that Elder Mordecai wanted to see me, but does that warrant why I'm being escorted by two hefty men, armed to the teeth? And they won't even speak to me.“Where are you taking me?" I asked again, looking up at both men, from one to the other. They remained silent, none of them spoke to me. The only sounds were just from the echoes of their boots off the stone floor. Something about the atmosphere felt off like it was ice cold—bad omens. They pushed the heavy wooden doors apart, and I could see the top members of the council and for the umpteenth time today, I shuddered. A certain shame washed over me—the shame of knowing that I'd been marked by Alpha Kieran. Lady Saraphina's presence made it worse because she had seen the lack of decency when she caught us in the moment. I could understand her anger, but I wanted to not be the object of it.“She doesn't look too bad; only a bit fragile," Lord Ulric remarked."Silence, old Man!” Lord Mordecai hissed in ann

  • His Omega Luna    Chapter 6: Reality Of The Game

Kieran’s POVI looked on with a satisfied smirk as red-hot jealousy tore Lady Seraphina from the inside out. What is a potentially powerful Luna, if she has to fight for the love of her much desired Alpha with a lowly Omega? She stared hard and clenched her teeth. “Until you say so?" I didn't reply. I only stared back. She dropped Lyra’s hand carelessly and stomped towards me, angry, but trying to keep it together. She glared at me with glassy eyes.“So, it's true after all?" My thoughts paused and redirected themselves. What was ‘It’ exactly? Whatever it was, it means a whole lot of scandal to me.“Believe everything you hear, Lady Seraphina ,” I taunted. She took another step, almost closing the gap between us completely. Her cheeks shone red, but I didn't let my gaze falter. She should have abandoned the idea of being my Luna since the day I first rebuffed her show of affection towards me. Desperation still filtered densely out of her voice. She was choking back a tear “You da

Lyra’s POV Her wide, shocked eyes darted between Kieran and me, her lips parted as if she wanted to say something and then, she moved. Her hand shot out, fingers closing around my wrist with a grip that sent pain jolting up my arm. Before I could even react, she gave me a slap as I staggered backwards, holding onto my cheek with teary eyes.“You filthy whore,” she hissed. “How dare you? How dare you try to seduce my man?”I barely had time to steady myself before she yanked me forward, her nails digging into my wrist. My body stumbled after her as she dragged me through the doorway and down the corridors, her pace was unrelenting. My legs scrambled to keep up, the sting of her slap still burning on my cheek.I didn’t defend myself, I couldn’t. She wouldn’t give me a listening ear. What audacity did an omega like me have to defend herself against Lady Seraphina? Against the woman who had everything I didn’t, status, power, and attention of the Pack. She was the future Luna. Despite be
