He nods, grabs hold of the hand I was holding my stomach with, and we entwine our fingers together in a show of unity.

My eyes fall on our hands, and they remain there as we travel through the winding roads surrounding Luca's private compound.

"Did team three cover the private strip? Is it cleared?" Luca sighs gruffly, sounding almost as if he might be a tad cautious if talking aloud.

"Everything cleared five minutes ago, the plane, too. Though Niko wants us on the plane and leaving within fifteen minutes of arriving," Mass admits, his eyes darting to me in the rearview mirror.

"I agree, we can't be too safe considering the underground movements."

"What movements?" I question quietly.

"There's been talk of people grouping up to go against me," Luca shrugs, not particularly making eye contact and obviously unwilling to elaborate any further.

The sudden crack of a gun fills the air around us. One. Two. Three—the bulletproof glass to my right beside Leonardo cracking into a million pie

LucaGunshots are sounding around us, and I'm hoping that means team two are keeping us safe.Mass and Emma are still hanging in their chairs, Angelo screaming at me to release Emma from the confines of the seatbelt, which is solely holding her still in the upside-down car.I think I might have broken a few ribs, and my head smarts like a bitch, but I push that aside to tend to Emma when the startling realisation that there seems to be a cease-fire.Angelo dives into the car, taking cover from fires seemingly aimed right at Emma."GET HER DOWN NOW!" He tells me with an unusually non-calm voice. I growl in annoyance, but he goes against me, unstrapping her. She slumps down on the pair of us, hissing out pain as she does, and I see red as it seeps into my vision. It would only take for me to reach for my gun at my hip to put a bullet inside his skull. Still, I refrain, watching him angrily as he pulls Emma towards him, carefully taking her through the busted window into the outside, pre

I can do this; I just need to see where they are, then they'll die.""And whilst you're lying there with that gun, you're vulnerable. They'll have a scope too, Emma.""I know—" she sighs. "But what other chance do we have? It's either me walking out there as bait—.""Not happening!""Or it's one of you. I'll cover you. I won't allow you to die.""I'll walk out there," Mass pipes up, annoying me to no end. Why does he feel the need to go against me now, especially when things are so up in the air?"You're hurt," I tell him."Then you see, it doesn't matter. If they shoot me, and it's got the three of you out of here, then that's my job done."He crawls down the car, reaching into the back seat. It collapses forward, and a bag falls onto the roof. He grabs for it, bringing it out to dump before Emma. Her fingers greedily take the bag, and I watch through that red haze as she grabs for the gun and the amm

EmmaLuca is dubious about moving, so we wait a good half hour with no shots fired at Mass and Angelo, who both decided to sit where Mass ended up rolling during the last shot of the snipers. Mass is hurt, bleeding and in pain, and he's given the ultimate sacrifice for our lives today, which I'm hugely grateful for.All four of us take the time to recoup, Luca holding me in his arms behind the car as a shield. No words are said between us, but I feel his protectiveness surrounding me as his arms circle my waist—something that's been missing since I stepped inside his father's office all those weeks ago. This is the boy that I fell in love with. But I'm not stupid to think he'll remain this man. Luca's training has hardened him, which is expected in this life. I wish he had reserved the soft version of himself for me behind the closed doors of his compound, but perhaps that will come in time after I teach him how to be gentle once again.Only after that downtime does Luca agree that

"Stand down, idiota!" Luca hisses his way."Why are you walking in here looking like a bat out of hell?" One of the others, Theo, I think his name is, remarks."We got ambushed. Hasn't Team Three notified you? What about team two? Do you have communications with them?" Luca asks as we race towards the house. His burst of energy has me panting as I race to keep up with him."We had confirmation you took off an hour ago," Theo answers."Where's Niko?" Luca fires back."In his office.""Get him to meet me in mine. The six of you and no one else understood?""Yes, sir." They all mutter together.Five of them followed Luca, Mass, Angelo, and me to Luca's office, and Theo promptly headed to Niko's office.I've barely sat in the office chair Luca guides me into before Niko enters the room.He beelines straight for the desk, crouching beside me, asking if I'm okay."Are you hurt? LucaEmma has me rendered speechless as she firmly chastises the men who are put in place to protect us at all times, no matter the cost. To say I'm not sad to see that she admonishes Niko would be honest. And what's more, she demands they all leave my office, leaving me alone with her after her shining ability to rule our men as their queen for the first time.I had expected her to retire to Niko's bedroom the moment we stepped foot in the house, as she has done the last few days, but not today. Today, she chose me, and I'm not stupid enough to ignore that fact. I'll be sure to revel in any and all attention she designates for me. Trauma can do that, bringing people together over mutual experiences, and today, our ordeal has been more than horrific and most definitely unexpected.Honestly, I want to lay her back into our bed and fall beside her to lie in content silence. My mind can stop racing, and I can just enjoy her company by touching her in as many places as I can."Let's get y

Looking between her and the doctor, I move without hesitation, sitting before him as he smirks."Do you hurt anywhere, in particular, Mr Moretta?" He asks me."No—.""He hurts," Emma overtalks me."Where?" he asks me. For a long moment, I choose to be quiet, contemplating standing up and refusing to be seen at all. But with Emma standing right there behind him, arms crossed, her bottom lip trapped as she bites down on it, makes me second-guess my choice."Chest," I reveal reluctantly."I'd like to have a look. Can you take off your upper clothing, please?"Gritting my teeth, having noted Emma floating closer, I do as he asks. Usually, I would ignore my injuries and allow them to heal on their own, but Emma feels the need to ensure my safety.I shrug off my ruined blazer and the shirt that's ripped in several places, dropping them on the floor carelessly. They'll go in the bin, anyway."Ah," the doctor hums whilst Emma gasps aloud.I haven't looked at myself, but from the sounds of it,

But a gut feeling woke me early in the morning as if someone was watching us.Emma was still snuggly held to my body when my eyes flew open, her head under my chin as I breathed her in.The clock on her bedside table read three thirty, yet despite the muted light it gave warding off the pitch darkness, I swear I could have seen someone sitting in the armchair looking back at me.I squinted for a few moments hoping my eyesight would adjust to reveal who it was, but it was far too dark to see who dared to sit in my room whilst I slept, but in honesty, I had an inkling who the fuck it might be. Despite wanting nothing more than to climb back in bed with Emma, I chose to stop by the garden, where our men are training with one another, as I would expect them to.I noted them as I walked down the hall, stopping to stare out the window as I marvelled at how good they were becoming in hand-to-hand combat. I have Emma to thank for that. Just when I thought they couldn't improve, she showed up to prove me wrong.Backtracking through the house, I chose to stand off to the side and watch in the shadows, not really piquing anyone's interest nor imposing on their training session. My pain threshold would not hold up anyway.I'm disgusted to say after a while; I find Bianca in the thick of my men doing precisely what Emma might have been doing if she weren't in bed, exhausted from the last few days of hell. She, too, moves just as fluidly as Emma does, leaving me with no doubt that they were trained by the same person. I find myself hovering closer to marvel at the fact that though even

Continued:Sven turns back to rejoin Bianca and me by the bed, and as I stand, I peep out the small window to my right. My heart races as my eyes dart across the street below, searching frantically for a way to get Bianca down and into another building safely, away from the danger lurking just beyond that door. Each hotel looks inviting, but just as with this one, its buildings are tall and overtly open."Not going to answer the door, Niko?" Densel's voice booms, dripping with mockery. I can almost envision the twisted grin on his face as he twirls his gun, the metallic glint reflecting the darkness of his intentions. The threat is unmistakable, hanging in the air like a storm cloud, and I brace myself for what comes next.Laying on the floor, hoping to crawl out of sight to the balcony door, I move precariously. Climbing the wall, with my back flat against it, I extend my hand toward the door, carefully unlatching it to avoid making a sound that might alert anyone nearby. As the door

Niko A profound sense of connection envelops us, and a look of mutual respect passes between our eyes. We've worked together long enough to know how each other thinks, which can only be helpful for the pair of us.In the background, I hear Bianca let out a soft sigh, drawing my attention back to her. She remains frozen in place, her expression a mix of tension and confusion. What is troubling her so profoundly that she feels compelled to stay anchored there, motionless?"I need a favour," I whisper."What is it?""I need you to go down to the Western to collect whatever Luca has just sent over." I showed him the phone, and a one-word message from Luca remarked, 'Done.'"You owe me," Sven chuckles dryly before picking his weapons out of the bag, ensuring they are full before he turns to the door, his hands on the chain, it hanging open between him and the door when suddenly, a sharp knock echoes through the room, jolting Bianca out of her reverie. She springs up, darting to my s

Continued: "Do you have money?" Sven barrages me with questions. "Yes," I nod, but in the same instance, I frown. It's all fucking digital, every last penny. "What?" they both mirror my horror. "Applepay, it's traceable," I mumble. "May I?" Bianca asks for my main phone, and I pass it to her without question. Only a second later, she turns it back to my face. She's downloading a banking app, and I'm not sure where she's going with this. "Use that," she stipulates with indifference as I glance down at the phone, reading her father's name on the card now residing in my wallet. I nod, but I'm not sure I will use it. There has to be another way; I think to myself as we walk in unison to the counter, Sven standing on our six until I ask him to step closer. "Do you have any cash at all?" I request eagerly. "No," he shakes his head. Swearing softly to myself, a profound sense of unease settles in as I contemplate the idea of using Bianca's father's money. The truth is, it feels li

NikoThis morning, an unsettling instinct crept into my mind—a gut feeling or perhaps a sixth sense—that today was poised to take a dark turn. With this foreboding hovering over me, I pulled Sven aside before Bianca even woke up. The weight of unpreparedness settled heavily on my shoulders. I had nothing that I usually had at my fingertips, and I couldn't shake the echo of Alexandra's words: living without permission but forever at the forefront of my thoughts. When I arrived on this isolated island, I came armed with the weapons that had adorned me on my wedding day—two knives and two guns with only one round in each, reminders of a day when I was meant to be the groom, not the protector. It wasn't until just a few days ago that I finally reclaimed my phone, another lifeline to reality.A wave of unease washed over me as I stepped off the boat. It felt as if I was walking into my impending fate. I turned to Sven, my voice low and steady, asking him to gather everything we needed to e

Continued: As I sat there, my mind wandered to Alexandra. Would she be joining us on the flight home? The mere idea of enduring her incessant chatter for an entire journey left me feeling uneasy. I could already imagine her animated and unrelenting voice filling the cabin as we soared through the clouds, unable to escape one another. My thoughts then drifted to Niko and how the familiarity of home might alter our dynamic. Would the ease we shared during this honeymoon transform back into the more complex opposition we had previously experienced? It would be disingenuous to say these questions didn't preoccupy me. However, Niko kept his silence, and I found myself caught in the web of my own musings, choosing not to voice my uncertainties. The air around us was thick with unspoken words, and I remained wrapped in quiet contemplation as we readied ourselves with Sven on his boat. The journey to the mainland was tumultuous, with the ocean raging against the boat's sides as we travelled

BiancaI hate to admit the days pass with blinding speed, but we fit as much sex and physical touch into them as we possibly can, and in the times between, we do a lot of talking, exploring one another and our future and how that might look upon leaving this island. We fuck in the hot tub, on the kitchen counter, with hushed giggles at the thrill of potentially being caught, fucking against the window I can't help but stare out of when I'm standing in the bedroom. Soft sensual sex in bed, hard fucking from behind when I tease him about something, and he just can't keep his hands off of me. That has got to be my favourite, but I've not voiced that to him.My sexual appetite has doubled, if not tripled, in such little time that I wonder where my need has arisen from. But similarly, our need to explore what one another wants to uncover itself. As our conversations flowed seamlessly from one topic to the next, we found ourselves wrapped in a captivating exchange that lasted two days. Continued:My previous thoughts of not forcing this on her and making her happy in our forced marriage chose this exact time to crop up, my teeth grinding in annoyance as I looked at her thoughtfully."Niko," she breathes my name, making me move to sit up further. Our chests come together as I reach to kiss her neck.I reach around her waist and pluck the bottoms bows just as she had the tops so they float off in the water as the bubbling swirl that's them under their wings."You're beautiful," I murmur against the skin of her neck."Please," she begs. Fuck the beg is almost my undoing; in fact, my cock pulsates at that one word, and yet I find myself exercising complete control to elongate this as far as I can.Instead, I kiss along her collarbone before moving down her breast, sucking her nipple into my mouth to pebble it. I rhythmically lavish it with attention before I release it with a pop so I can move on to its twin."Bianca." I grin when I pop the second one from my mouth. Her

NikoThe morning unfolds with unexpected tranquillity, the sun streaming through the windows and casting warm golden rays across the room that was yesterday shrouded in intense darkness. This ease, however, only amplifies my thoughts, drawing me into a spiral of self-doubt and guilt, haunted by the reality that Bianca faced danger because of my actions. As evening descends, the sky blushes with hues of pink and orange, and we find ourselves ensconced in the soothing embrace of the hot tub. The gentle warmth of the water contrasts with the cool air, wrapping us in a cocoon of serenity while Sven eagerly busies himself, constructing a makeshift bedroom for his stay. The humid air carries the faint scent of cedar and the distant sounds of nature, creating a false sense of security. Our trio had engaged in deep discussions about Sven's plans as we ate breakfast, each idea shared like a lifeline, reinforcing the belief that having another person around would heighten our chances of safety.

Contained: "Sure," Niko nods, touching his mug on the counter with a soft clink. "We'll try," I agree, though the truth looms heavily in my mind: a bond can only deepen with time, and it feels like we've had too little of it. I keep this to myself, reluctant to acknowledge that a part of me senses a wedge still exists between us. However, once we're back home with Luca and Emma, I'm confident we won't get close enough to others for them to attempt to pull us apart anytime soon. "I'll walk you out," Niko offers, trailing after Lucia as she strides towards the front door. The moment she reaches it, her men snap to attention, bowing their heads in unison—an unspoken testament to the respect she commands. Stepping outside onto the already warm, sun-kissed sand, I cast my gaze toward the water and see her boats bobbing gently in the surf. A few small vessels equipped with retractable engines lurk close to shore, while a larger yacht lies further out, seemingly calling for Lucia to ret
