Alexandra’s POV.

"No… No! This can’t be happening!" My mind screamed as I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that when I opened them, everything would disappear like a bad dream. I would wake up to find Asher smiling at me, maybe even Theresa beside me, the way things used to be.

But when I opened my eyes, reality slammed into me like a brutal wave. Asher wasn’t looking at me. He wasn’t worried about me. Instead, he was holding Theresa in his arms, his hands gently caressing her stomach.

I had blacked out for what felt like an eternity, yet it didn’t matter to him. His concern wasn’t for me—it was for his mistress and the baby she was carrying.

"Barren." The word echoed over and over in my head like a curse I couldn’t escape from.

I tried to shake it off, but the pain wouldn’t leave. He saw me as barren. That was how he defined me. Not as his wife. Not as the woman who had loved him for years, who had given him everything I had. Just… a barren woman.

I never knew Asher was this desperate for a child. We had never talked about it, never argued about it. Or maybe I was just blind. Maybe I was the fool who believed that our love was enough.

I forced myself to stand, my body trembling from exhaustion. My knees felt weak, and my entire world spinning. My mind begged me to wake up, to convince myself this wasn’t real. But the images of everything I had just witnessed kept replaying in my head, refusing to let me escape.

“Three years of loving him.” “Two and a half years of being loved back.”

“Five months of betrayal.”

And in the end, I was the one left broken.

I wanted to be strong, to confront them, to claw at Theresa’s face for daring to steal what was mine. But I couldn’t. My body was too weak, my heart too shattered, my spirit too drained.

I could barely lift a finger, let alone fight.

“Asher… are you okay?” I heard Theresa’s voice, soft and concerned—but not for me. Never for me.

“I think I am,” she murmured, placing a hand over her stomach.

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palm.

Theresa had played me. She had pretended to care, pretended to be my friend, and acted as though she was the only one who understood my pain. And I had fallen for it. I had confided in her, trusted her, and believed in her lies.

The entire time, she had been sleeping with my husband.

I turned on my heel, my voice trembling as I finally spoke.

“You both will regret this.”

I didn’t even know how. I didn’t know what I could do to them, how I could make them feel even a fraction of the pain I felt. But I meant it. I meant every word.

Theresa’s mocking laughter filled the room, stopping me in my tracks.

“Regret? How?” she sneered. “What exactly are you capable of?”

I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood.

“You have nothing, Alexandria. Everything belongs to Asher now.”

I felt the words cut through my heart like a blade.

I turned to Asher, desperate and searching for something—anything—that might tell me this wasn’t true. That he wasn’t just going to stand there and watch her humiliate me. But he said nothing. He didn’t even move.

I felt the tears stream down my face again.

His silence was worse than anything he could have said.

I turned and stormed out, leaving Theresa’s words hanging in the air.

She was right.

I had nothing.

I had given Asher everything I had, and in return, he had betrayed me.

The drive back home was lonely. I could barely focus, nearly crashing more than once. My hands shook on the wheel, my vision blurred with tears.

I had to pull over.

I rested my forehead against the steering wheel, trying to breathe, trying to stop the ache in my chest from swallowing me whole.

After what felt like hours, I forced myself to keep driving. Somehow, I made it home.

The moment I stepped inside, I collapsed onto the couch. My body felt heavy, like all life had been drained from it. I stared at nothing, my mind blank, my heart hollow.

Everything was gone.

---

"Alexandra!"

I frowned, squeezing my eyes shut. The voice sounded distant, pulling me out of the darkness.

"Alexandra! Alexandra!"

I jerked awake, my body stiff from sleeping in the same position for too long. My headache, my throat dry.

When I lifted my gaze, Asher stood in front of me.

He was furious.

I blinked at him in confusion. What right did he have to be angry? What had I done to deserve that glare?

Before I could ask, he threw a stack of papers onto the table in front of me.

“Sign them,” he demanded in a cold voice.

I just stared at him, my mind slow to process his words.

I hesitated before reaching out, my fingers brushing over the pages. My vision blurred as I forced myself to read the first few words.

My breath caught in my throat.

“Divorce Papers.”

I felt my entire world crash down all over again.

My hands trembled as I lifted my gaze to him, searching his face for any hint of regret, any sign that this wasn’t happening.

“Asher… what is this?” I asked, my voice breaking.

He scoffed. “Are you that stupid, Alexandria?”

I flinched at the cruelty in his tone.

“No… no, it can’t be…” I whispered, shaking my head, trying to convince myself I had misread it.

Asher grabbed the papers, shoving them closer to me. “They’re divorce papers. Sign them before I come back. There is no point continuing the marriage when Theresa can give me children but you can't.”

And just like that, he turned and walked out.

Leaving me alone again.

I slid to the floor, my knees giving out beneath me. I couldn’t breathe and couldn’t think.

Tears poured down my face as I pressed my forehead to the cold marble floor.

This was it. Asher didn’t just betray me, he was done with me.

He was throwing me away for my own cousin.

He wanted to break me completely.

He wanted a divorce because Theresa was having his baby.

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   Breakdown

Ethan’s POV.The first thought that came to my mind when I saw Alex in the daycare was that she had come to pick up her child just like me but when she started cleaning Stefan up, my perception changed. And it was affirmed when she confirmed she works in the daycare. Stefan must have given her ideas that was why she inquired if I was married which I quickly refuted. Stefan was my sister's kid but I had grown so attached to him that I regarded him as mine. Alex wasn't the only one who had asked if I was married because of Stefan, I had gotten those questions several times and it breaks my heart.Being reminded of how I lost my first girlfriend and fiancee was a pleasant experience at all. “You're not married?" She sounded like she doubted me. “Yeah, I’m not." Switching Stefan to my other arm, I said, “Actually, Stefan is my sister's kid but I had become so attached to him that I regard him as mine." I chuckled, watching as she nodded her head slowly. “Sorry for the misconception.

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   A New Life.

Alexandra's POV.Two months later.Pulling the crying child to myself, I struggled to keep feeding the other. “Oh sweetie, momma is coming soon okay." I cooed, trying to make the kid stop crying but it was to no avail. Hurriedly but carefully so the child I was feeding won't choke, I fed him and once I was done, I scooped the crying child into my hands, trying all I could to soothe him. Swirling around and singing some rhymes to him, I continued this way until he fell asleep. With a bright smile on my lips, I placed him on the cot before shifting my attention to the rest of the children who were playing. Work at the daycare was so tiring that each day when I returned home I would start aching all over but never for once did I complain about it.The kids here made me forget about the loss of my child.Just as he has said, the coordinator back at the foundation gave me a job as a receptionist in a hotel but I quit after a week of working. When I was alone, I wouldn't help but to z

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   Where do I go now?

Alexandra's POV.For the first time in my life, I felt cornered. Up until now, I have already had everything I wanted effortlessly at my beck and call but not anymore. I was no longer the heiress of Scott Enterprise, neither was I the daughter of Edward Scott. Grabbing my duffel bag which held a little of my belongings, I stepped out of the premises and didn't stop walking despite having nowhere in mind to go. Father had given a strict warning that he didn't want to see me anywhere near his property. If he could disown me without batting his eyelids, handing me over to the police for trespassing was an easy task for him too. The look I was getting from passersby made my skin crawl.Without having to ask them, I knew they were wondering why a lady in a wedding gown was walking on the road and clutching a duffel bag. Before I would be accosted by anyone, I decided to change into something else and so without wasting any more time, I made my way to the public bathroom for the firs

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   So you didn't abort the child?

Alexandra's POV.The look on father's face showed he had heard every bit of our conversation.Holding my breath in fright, I folded my hands in front of me as the fear of uncertainty loomed in. “When did you join us?" Ethan broke the silence with an awkward chuckle but father didn't respond; instead, he fixed his gaze on me. What am I going to do now? — I questioned, my chest heavy with different thoughts threatening to take away my sanity as the tension in the room became even more thick. “You didn't take out the child like you made me believe." Father spoke for the first time with a voice barely above a whisper but I heard him clearly. The disappointment in his tone which was also laced with anger couldn't be missed too and for a moment, I felt life sipping out of me slowly. Gulping, I tried to speak but words refused to form. I was terrified to my bones.A few days ago, father had clearly told me there were dire consequences if I tried anything stupid; he wasn't bluffing ba

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   The Confession

Alexandra's POV.Folding my hands on my thigh, I remained still as the beautician worked expertly on my face to give me the best look father said I deserved. When she was done, the fashion designer in charge of my gown came through, helping me into the customized gown father had gotten for me. To make this marriage leave an indelible mark in the mind of all the guests he had invited, father had spent a fortune. By the time they were done with helping me prepare for my wedding, I wore a different look that made the smile on my lips broaden. “I'm so beautiful." I mumbled, checking out myself in the mirror while the ladies chuckled behind me. “I had only applied a little make up on your face, nothing else. You're already beautiful." The beautician complimented. So not to be left out, the fashion designer also chipped in her own compliment before they both left my room, leaving me to myself. For the next few minutes that followed, I kept staring at my reflection in the mirror as my

  • His Regret: Barren Ex-Wife Has A Baby   What happened to the lights?

Alexandra's POV.The moment the lights went off, there was chaos in the living room as everyone was speaking at the same time, unwilling to listen to what the next person had to say. Flashlights pooped out from all corners but it was not enough to illuminate the whole room, though it managed to cover some places. Looking around, I found my father speaking to a man and immediately after the man took his leave, he hit his palms together to get the attention of everyone present. With a loud and firm voice, he said, “I apologize for the inconveniences, we are going to fix the issue right away.” His words were able to placate the guests and the murmuring died down. Finally, the light was restored and the engagement ceremony continued in a full swing. At the end of it, I retired to my room. I had just stepped into my sleeping gown when I heard a knock and with no doubt, I was certain it was father on the other end. Staring at the door, I made no move towards it. "I know you are not
