LOGINMEGAN’S POV
I slowly opened my weak eyes and saw that I was in the hospital. My head ached. How the hell did I get here? I remembered calling for help, but I don’t know if it went through.
The door creaked open, drawing my attention to the entrance as the doctor walked in. “Luna Megan, you’re lucky. A man and a maid had you rushed to the hospital just in time.”
“My baby…” I gasped, placing my hand on my stomach with tears pricking my eyes.
Then, a voice snapped in. “The baby is safe, Meg.”
My eyes grew in excitement. Of course, I can never forget that voice. He walked in with plastic bags filled with fruits and freshly made juice.
“Nate?” I called out with a wide smile. He dropped the plastic bags and rushed to embrace me. In his arms, I burst into tears.
“Luna Megan, your child is safe, and I hope this is the last time something like this happens. You need to rest because you lost a lot of blood.” The doctor continued before leaving while I nodded slowly.
Disengaging the hug, Nate took a deep breath. “Meg, I got your call at midnight, and I was so scared. That man is not worth any of these. You’ve done so much for him and his trashy pack, but that ungrateful bastard has done nothing but put your life in danger. You almost bled to death, Meg. When are you going to realize that he’s not the one for you?” Nathan Prescott, my cousin, who I fondly called Nate, lamented.
“But I’m pregnant with a pup…” I sniffed hard, blinking my eyes rapidly to stop tears from falling down my face.
Nate shook his head. “It doesn’t matter, Meg. The pack needs you… you’re our Moon Heiress and…” He was interrupted by a phone call, so he signaled to me that he’d be back before leaving the room.
Taking a deep, long breath, I lay back on the bed with thoughts running through my mind. Austin has always chosen Kayla no matter what.
Memories flashed back into my head. During my 25th birthday, Austin and I went out to celebrate, but he left me alone in the park just because he got a call that Kayla got into a minor home accident. I waited for him all day, until I watched the candles on my cake burn until they melted away, but he never showed up. Oh, but I waited and hoped he would come back like he promised, but that never happened.
It was already empty at the park—dark and snowing—when I decided to go back home. All I got from him was a text. “Eat your cake, Megan. Say your wishes and go home. I can’t leave Kayla alone; she’s wounded.”
My heart ached. Tears drenched my pillow, but none of that mattered to my husband. All he saw was Kayla, and now he would even save his mistress over his pregnant wife.
Then, I overheard a conversation between the two nurses, who came to clean up the ward I was in.
“That lady at room 142 is so lucky. Her husband wouldn’t leave her sight. He’s been with her since last night and barely closed his eyes even if his wife’s case isn’t critical at all.” The first nurse started.
“That’s right. I heard he’s an Alpha. Oh, dear Moon Goddess, I hope you get me mated with a man as good-looking and caring as him. His wife is so fortunate to have such a perfect husband. I heard her name is Kayla, a beautiful name for a pampered wife.” The second nurse chuckled.
It rang a bell. Kayla? Is it the same Kayla I know?
“He’s not just any Alpha. He’s the Alpha of Crescent Moon Pack, Alpha Austin Sinclair.” The first nurse replied.
I felt my chest tighten. Austin? They think Kayla is his wife? I’ve never felt more horrible than I’m feeling right now. I held onto my chest, trying to calm myself down when one of the nurses turned to me. “Ma’am, you’re really in bad shape. Why isn’t your husband here with you? He should be taking care of you.”
I only forced a smile at her. “I’m… I’m fine.”
With that, she nodded, and they walked out of the ward. I was curious; I just couldn’t help it. Without a second thought, I got up from the bed, taking off the drip set connected to my fist, and walked out of the room, straight to room 142.
I was yet to get to the room when I started hearing them chatting and laughing heartily. From the slightly ajar door, I watched my husband slice apples for Kayla and fed her while they kept talking and laughing.
However, I wanted to leave them alone quietly, but I mistakenly tripped, holding onto the doorknob, and the door flung open.
“Megan? What are you doing here?” Austin asked with narrowed eyes.
I didn’t speak. I only stared at him with absolute disgust. Then, he continued. “Don’t tell me you followed us here. Look, Kayla can’t handle any stress right now. I promised her late parents that I’d take care of her, and I’m never letting them down. Would you stop picking on Kayla?”
“Picking on Kayla? Was I?” I scoffed in disbelief, but I wasn’t surprised. I’ve always been his placeholder—I just couldn’t bring myself to believe that before, but not anymore.
Kayla pretentiously coughed, and he patted her back gently. “I’m sorry, Luna Megan. I didn’t mean to get you upset. It’s just that my heart can’t take any more pain. The panic attacks continue to reoccur, so I had no choice but to let Austin take care of me.”
“No, Kayla. It’s not your fault.” Austin snapped, and I scoffed. What an adorable pair of lovebirds!
“Look, Megan, you have to apologize to Kayla. What are you even doing in a hospital and wearing a patient gown? Don’t be ridiculous, Megan. You do all these to get my attention, don’t you?”
Kayla continued in her feigned pitiful manner. “I heard you’re an outstanding cook, Megan. Why not make us some soup? Right, Austin?”
“Of… of course, you’ll do that, won’t you, Megan? Go ahead and prepare soup for Kayla; she’ll be discharged in an hour. The doctor said it will be good for her—to calm her nerves.”
“Soup? Sure… I’ll get that done.” I forced a pain-filled smile at them. Making his Luna prepare dinner for his ex-fiancée. Ridiculous!
Finally, I’m done with this. I can never replace his precious Kayla, so it’s time I give them my blessings. I glanced at them one last time before leaving while they continued chatting like I didn’t exist.
Likewise, I stopped at the lobby and dropped a message to Nate. “Draft me the divorce papers, please. I’m done with being a fill-in.”
MEGAN'S POV I held onto my head as I felt my eyes closing. My vision was blurry. “What did you do to me?”He cackled mischievously and sat down with his legs crossed. “Drink wasn't the only surprise tonight. Of course, I know you would find out that the drink was drugged.” Then, he pointed at the incense burner on the table, and I breathed heavily, trying hard to keep my eyes open. “That…. I already took the antidote, so it won't affect me or anyone in this room except you, Miss Prescott.” He laughed maliciously. “You're…. You're evil and don't deserve to live.” I managed to speak because I was almost losing my voice. He roared with laughter like I had just given him a compliment. “There's no need to act tough, Miss Prescott. Don't worry, I'll go gentle with you. Look at you now.” He snapped his finger, and everyone in the room left instantly. In the twinkle of an eye, the room became empty. Bending closer to me, he ran his fingers all over my body. “You look like a helpless litt
MEGAN'S POV I sat on the chair facing the desktop on the table, lost in thought and staring blankly at the screen of the computer. Then came a faint knock on the door of my office. I didn't even realize that the door of the office was swung open until Claire tapped the table and I blinked hard, turning to her. “Y… Yes?”“Miss Prescott, are you okay? You look lost, and that's bad for work.” She chipped in. I forced a smile. “It's nothing. How may I help you?” “Oh, you don't need to help me because you'll be needing a lot of that help for yourself.” She jokingly snapped. “I mean, as the project manager, you'll have to meet with Mr. Davison. He's quite a difficult man to please. You'll need him to sign, and then we can proceed with the other facilities.” She tried to sound caring, but in the real sense, it felt like she was mocking me.“Mr. Davison?” I mouthed with my eyes rolling. “Get me an appointment with him.” I readily replied, and she smiled mischievously.Picking up the files
AUSTIN'S POVI walked into the store, and Kayla rushed to me with wide arms and a beaming smile. “Oh, Austin. How sweet of you! You spoil me so much. Thank you for buying the entire store for me. You really…” She ran her hands from my chest down to my stomach. “You really didn't have to.” Immediately, I stared hard at her with arched eyebrows. “What are you talking about?” I pushed her hand away. “Who said I bought you anything?”Megan stared at both of us with an expressionless glare as she clutched my shoulder bag. The second saleslady chuckled nervously and started. “Uhm… Alpha, you said you bought the store for your wife. I naturally assumed… I mean, I saw you both.” She pointed at Austin and Kayla while talking. “I've seen you both on TV together, so she must be your wife, right?”“This is ridiculous!” Megan shook her head as she turned to leave, but I grabbed her arm. “No, Megan. You're my wife.”For a second, she became numb. After a few minutes of silence, she turned around
ALICE'S POV I drove into the mall and parked the car in the garage. Kayla and I walked into the mall laughing and chatting. However, our laughter was cut short the moment we sighted Megan shopping in the clothes section. Kayla scoffed in disgust as she cleared her throat noisily to get Megan's attention. Megan turned slightly with her face indifferent. “Oh, look who we have here. I wonder how many times you had to spread your legs to be able to afford that.” She pointed at the dress Megan was holding. Ignoring her, Megan rolled her eyes and proceeded to take out another dress from the display shelf. Furious, Kayla grabbed her arm rudely. “Hey. I'm talking to you.” “She thinks she can buy a discount dress at a luxury store.” I taunted, staring hatefully at her. Kayla and I laughed loudly. “And pretend to be a socialite.” I added.Kayla shook her head in a feign of pity. “You know what? It's actually kind of sad. You can put lipstick on a pig, but that doesn't stop it from being a p
MEGAN'S POV My words seemed to throw Austin off balance. He stared at me, blinking rapidly. I could almost hear his heart beating fast. “What do you say, Alpha Austin Sinclair? I thought you wanted to save your little dream girl? I don't have all the time in the world.”“No, absolutely not.” He finally blurted out, to my surprise. My eyes widened in astonishment. “What?” I snapped at him.He shook his head." I said, No. I cannot give up my position in the Wolf's Joint Empire."“Then, we have absolutely nothing to talk about, Mr. Sinclair.”I turned to leave, but Kayla's voice made me turn around. She ran straight to Austin, shedding her usual false tears—nothing new.“Austin, your ex-wife is so cold-hearted. You know how important this eatery is to me, don't you? Just because she's whoring herself to the Alpha Prince, she has succeeded in getting me thrown out of here.” Kayla sniffed pretentiously. I shook my head in disgust. A drama queen will always be a drama queen. Kayla sharply
MEGAN'S POVLucien and I were seated at a fancy restaurant with the piping hot delicacies served in front of us. I sipped the cocktail slowly as he started. “How is your new job treating you? You know you could have just started as the MD?” “I don't want that yet, Lucien. I just started, and I hope it gets better.” I simply uttered, spooning the creamy pasta into my mouth. After a few seconds of silence, with a worried voice, Lucien added. “How are you coping with your ex-husband?”I choked. My gaze went from the plate to Lucien. “He's working as a partner of the company. Of course, I'm there to do my job, which is precisely what I've been doing.”“Megan, if you can't cope with him around you, do not hesitate to tell me. I'll do anything and everything to buy the shares back from him and…” Lucien was determined, but I interrupted him softly. “You don't have to. Austin and I are divorced. Whatever we had was in the past. Now, we're just co-workers or partners in a business place. That
