LOGINMEGAN’S POV
The next day, I woke up very early as usual. Not minding the fact that my dear husband didn’t return to bed last night. I hoped, and tried to convince myself, that he was just her childhood friend and that’s all.
Patting my stomach, I smiled softly. I’m sure that once I tell him that I’m pregnant, he would surely be happy, and then our family can be together again.
With that, I stirred the prawn sauce while the servants aided me with the cooking. For the past three years, I’ve always made breakfast for my husband and the household. In fact, anything that makes him happy, even if it’s inconvenient for me, I’d always do it for him.
After cooking, I had the food served on the dining table with a wide smile. A few minutes later, I was already seated and waiting for Austin when I heard the laughter and chatting coming from the stairs area. I didn’t bother to stare, because I knew it was them.
The moment I raised my eyes, I saw Kayla with her arm wrapped around my husband's arm like she would fall if she didn’t hold onto him. My heart ached, but I kept calm.
I was literally invisible to them, because no one acknowledged me. They sat around the table with my husband pulling the chair for ‘his Kayla’—something he has never done for me.
I sat there, staring at the food and toying with it with the cutlery, but no one, not even my husband, noticed me.
“Oh my gosh! Prawns? What the…” Kayla jolted, turning to Austin while I raised my brows in a mixture of curiosity and surprise.
Austin sighed and turned his gaze at me for the first time since he came to the dining table. “Oh, shit! Megan, you should have asked. Kayla doesn’t like eating prawns.”
“Yes, that’s right.” Alice snapped. “She’d prefer fish sauce because peeling this is a lot of work.” Alice added.
My chest tightened, and I opened my mouth to speak, yet nothing came out. I wasn’t just stunned; I was heartbroken. Watching my husband hold her hands in consolation. “It’s okay, Kay. I know you don’t like peeling prawns. You know prawns are my favorite; that’s why Megan made them, and I forgot to tell her that I won’t eat them as long as you’re here.”
God! Do they think I’m invisible? Right in front of his wife, who woke up early in the morning to make his favorite meal and to break the happiest news to him, he would rather trash the food to please his ex?
“Megan, you should have asked me before preparing this. They might be my favorite, but I don’t eat prawns whenever Kayla is around. She can’t peel them.” He scolded me, and I scoffed in utter disbelief.
“Oh, Austin. You’re so good to me.” Kayla smiled and then turned to me. “I hope you don’t mind, Luna Megan. Austin and I have always been like this.” I didn’t respond or even spare a glance, but she continued anyway. “Austin, since Megan has already prepared it, you can’t disappoint her. I remember you used to peel them for me so I wouldn’t ruin my nails.”
Alice chuckled. “Well, you are the most important person in his life, even more than I am.” They laughed heartily.
“Fine, I’ll peel them. I remember you like lime posset, right? I’ll have the servants prepare the dessert.” Austin patted her hair passionately as one of the servants handed him transparent gloves.
Lime posset? Really? He knows her favorite dish and the dish she doesn’t like . Yet after three years of being married to him, he couldn’t even tell that I’m allergic to limes.
I watched Kayla rub his hands over and over again while at the table; I lost my appetite. A part of me wanted to believe that they’re just friends, but another reminded me that they almost got married.
“Oh… isn't that the wedding band you bought for us four years ago?” Kayla gasped, glancing at the ‘ring’ pendant on the necklace hung around my neck.
My hand slowly reached for the ring on my necklace. It is my wedding ring, but it wasn’t even my size. So, it was the ring he bought for his marriage to Kayla before she broke up with him four years ago?
“Austin, you really kept the ring? I mean, I thought you’d trash it and get a new one for your Luna.” She joked, and Austin smiled while peeling prawns. “Of course not.”
Throughout the day, I had myself locked up in the room with the fear of getting more heartbroken by Alpha Austin and Kayla’s public display of closeness.
Kayla was literally attending pack meetings like she was the Luna while I stayed locked up in the room, sulking.
That night, I had already prepared Austin’s bath, and he came in, took his bath, and we retired to bed together, even if we only sleep on the sides of the bed like roommates.
It was midnight when I heard a knock on our door. My eyes flung open. The door was creaked open, and Kayla walked in, feigning fear.
“Austin! Austin!!” She called out, trembling.
Austin jerked up from the bed, rubbing his eyes weakly. Kayla continued sobbing and said. “Austin, I can’t sleep. You know I usually have panic attacks when I sleep alone. I just had a bad dream; I can afford to sleep by myself.” She sobbed.
I raised my head and glared at my husband, who was tenderly holding her hands and trying to calm her down. However, he didn’t care. He only turned to me and said. “Megan, don’t get this twisted. Kayla has always been this way. I’ll just go and help her go to sleep, and I’ll be back soon.”
Before I could say a word, he had already left the room, holding her hands like she was so precious to him. My jaw dropped, and of course, tears dropped from my cheeks.
AUSTIN’S POVTwo days past, and the house was still cold and empty. I had always thought she would come back even before the day runs over. However, it’s been two days, and she hasn’t come running back to me as usual. Whenever I thought of her not coming back again, my heart skipped, but I kept telling myself that she wouldn’t be able to live without me. She has nothing to her name… she’s just an orphan omega. Where could she possibly go?I sat on the dinning table and Madam Adeline, the steward served the cuisines on the table. Picking up the cutlery, I started digging into the piping hot chicken breast and suddenly, I spat it out with absolute disgust. “What the…” I spat it into a serviette paper. “Why is the chicken so bland? Who made this and why does it taste this bad?” My eyes furrowed in anger.“I’m sorry, Alpha. It has always been Luna Megan who makes the chicken breast sauce.” Madam Adeline mumbled. but I was interrupted by the chatting and loud laughter coming from the ent
MEGAN’S POVThe flashy cars drove into the Crescent Moon Pack, and the bodyguards got down from the first car and rushed over to the Bentley where I was seated and opened the car door. I got out of the car and stood in front of the house I once called home, staring at it now in disgust. This was once where I wished to come back to, but not anymore. I was about to enter the mansion when Austin stormed out of the house, and I halted. He rushed to me and held my wrist firmly. “Is it true? You’re pregnant?” His words brought cold shivers down my spine. Did he see the sonogram? Taking a deep breath, I questioned. “You already know?” I narrowed my eyes.“Is it my child?” He desperately inquired, and my eyes became cold instantly. “What do you mean? Whose child would it be if not yours? We were married; why would I carry another man’s child?” I glared hard at him.His mouth curved into a smug smile. “So I’m going to have an heir? For the sake of the baby, I’m willing to give you another
MEGAN’S POVThe Rolls-Royce drove into a massive mansion, and the driver rushed down to open the car while Nate helped me out of the car. The moment I stepped out of the car, I heaved a sigh of relief as I scanned around the compound with a faint smile on my face. “It feels good to be back home. I’m never leaving again.” I mumbled as Nate patted my shoulder. The servants and bodyguards stood by the door, and the minute I stepped closer to them, they bowed immediately. “Welcome home, Moon Heiress,” they chorused as I smiled a little. The entrance door swung open, and my father walked out of it. Tears clouded my eyes. I was filled with regret and sadness. I could remember clearly 4 years ago, standing on this same spot, I dragged my luggage out, refusing to listen to all pleas and warnings not to marry Alpha Austin. “My decision is final. I’m not going to Europe, and I would rather not take over the pack’s position as the Moon Heiress. All I want is to be Austin’s wife.” I lamented
MEGAN’S POVMy eyes watered as I sat at the dining table with two plates of piping hot bone soup on the table in front of me while I stared at the divorce papers placed on the table with tear-blurred eyes. My boxes were already packed and standing next to the seat where I sat. This was it. I’m fed up, and I’ve had enough of this humiliation. I gave Austin so many chances, but he threw them all away. Likewise, I shut my eyes tight, and tears rolled down my face. Taking a deep breath, I picked up the pen beside it and signed the papers without a second thought. Then, I heard the car honking and quickly wiped my tears. The door was swung open, and Alpha Austin walked in with Kayla wrapping her hand around his arm.Immediately I heard them giggling and chatting loudly, and I clenched my fist in utter disgust and fury. The moment they stepped in, Austin walked up to me with arched eyebrows. “What the hell, Megan? Where’s the soup I told you to prepare for Kay? Kayla is sick; can’t you be
MEGAN’S POVI slowly opened my weak eyes and saw that I was in the hospital. My head ached. How the hell did I get here? I remembered calling for help, but I don’t know if it went through. The door creaked open, drawing my attention to the entrance as the doctor walked in. “Luna Megan, you’re lucky. A man and a maid had you rushed to the hospital just in time.”“My baby…” I gasped, placing my hand on my stomach with tears pricking my eyes. Then, a voice snapped in. “The baby is safe, Meg.” My eyes grew in excitement. Of course, I can never forget that voice. He walked in with plastic bags filled with fruits and freshly made juice. “Nate?” I called out with a wide smile. He dropped the plastic bags and rushed to embrace me. In his arms, I burst into tears. “Luna Megan, your child is safe, and I hope this is the last time something like this happens. You need to rest because you lost a lot of blood.” The doctor continued before leaving while I nodded slowly. Disengaging the hug, N
MEGAN’S POVThat night felt like a year. All I did was lie on my back, staring at the ceiling blankly. I waited and hoped that Austin would come back to bed, but he didn’t. Instead, my phone chimed, and I quickly picked it up. A video message popped up on my phone, and I quickly opened it. “Hey, Luna. Look, Austin is sleeping so peacefully wrapped in my arms. Don’t mind so much; we’ve always been like this. He just can’t sleep well without being in my arms like a baby.” Kayla’s annoying laughter brought hot tears brimming in my eyes. The sight of my ‘dear’ husband fast asleep in her arms made my heart ache. He left me in the cold and went to sleep in her arms. I’m his Luna, his mate, but he would throw me out without a second thought once it has to do with Kayla. I quickly shut the phone and dropped it on the table, sniffing hard as tears rolled down my cheeks. Another message popped up on my phone; this time it was just a picture. Kayla was dressed in a bikini, kissing Austin’s c
