INICIAR SESIÓN*Adele's Point of View*
My wolf’s voice rang clear in my head.
I know, I answered silently, frozen.
Say something, she urged.
I could not.
Demarion yanked the bag from my shoulder and turned away like nothing had happened. He tossed it into the trunk and climbed back into the driver’s seat.
“Let’s go,” he said flatly.
I hugged Paul again, holding on like I might never let go. He kissed my head once more.
“I’ll call you,” I whispered.
“I’ll be waiting,” he said.
“I would like to get home today,” Demarion said coldly.
I pulled away and walked to the car. The door did not open for me. I climbed in myself, biting back a comment.
We drove in silence.
After a while, he spoke. “We need to talk. I have rules. Everyone in my pack has a role. Yours comes with conditions.”
I turned slightly toward him, listening.
“If you follow them, your stay will be… manageable.”
His voice was deep and smooth, even when it sounded sharp.
“Only speak when spoken to.
You will address me as sir.
You stay in your room unless I call for you.
You do not enter my office without permission.
You do not enter my room. Ever.
You show respect to Serena, my parents, my beta, and me.
You will not interact with other males in my pack.
You do what you are told.
Stay out of my way.”
Each rule landed like a blow.
“Failure will be punished,” he added, never looking at me.
“What?” I breathed.
He ignored me.
My heart pounded. “Demarion,” I said, my voice trembling. “We are mates. I felt it. You felt it too. This has to be a joke.”
His grip tightened on the steering wheel.
“That is sir,” he said, his voice darkening. “And I do not have a mate.”
Something inside me shattered.
The road blurred.
And for an unbearable period of time, my heart stopped beating the way it used to.
After Alpha Demarion laid out his rules, the drive became unbearable.
Questions crowded my mind, one after another, but every time I opened my mouth, I remembered his cold voice. Only speak when spoken to. So I stayed quiet.
The road stretched on endlessly. Trees blurred past the window. The silence pressed against my ears. When I reached for the radio, desperate for noise, his hand moved faster. He turned it off without looking at me.
I pulled my hand back and stared at my lap.
Minutes turned into hours. My throat burned with thirst. My stomach twisted with hunger. My bladder ached, but I said nothing. Fear kept my lips sealed.
Demarion drove like a man lost in his thoughts. His jaw was tight. His eyes were dark and distant. His knuckles were white around the steering wheel, like he was holding himself together by force alone. He never once glanced my way.
Eventually, exhaustion won. I leaned my head against the window and drifted off.
I did not sleep long.
“Miss, please wake up.”
A gentle hand shook my arm.
I blinked and sucked in a sharp breath. My surroundings were unfamiliar. Panic rushed in fast. “Where am I?” I demanded. “Who are you?”
“We have arrived at the Red Moon Pack,” the girl said calmly. “My name is Cindy. I am assigned to help you. If you need anything, you may call for me.”
She smiled, soft and nervous at the same time.
“Thank you,” I said, unsure.
Her lips parted to reply, but she froze.
“I would like to enter my home today, Cindy.”
Demarion’s voice cut through the air like a blade.
“Yes, sir,” Cindy said quickly. Her eyes widened as she turned to me. “Please come. The master does not like waiting.”
Her grip tightened around my arm, no longer gentle. She rushed me out of the car and hurried after Demarion, who walked ahead like he owned the world.
And then I saw it.
The word Castle did not even begin to cover it.
The estate stretched wide and proud beneath the midday sun. Perfect green lawns rolled outward, trimmed so neatly they looked unreal. Flowers bloomed in every color, blending together like a painting. Butterflies fluttered lazily above rose bushes. Water danced in tall fountains scattered across the grounds, catching the light as it fell.
Gravel crunched beneath our feet as we followed the path. Everything gleamed. Everything felt untouched.
When we reached the massive double doors, Demarion stopped. Cindy yanked me to a halt a few steps behind him.
He turned.
For the first time since the drive, his eyes met mine.
The force of his stare stole my breath. Power rolled off him, heavy and commanding. I dropped my gaze without meaning to.
“Look at me when I address you.”
My eyes lifted on their own.
He studied me in silence. Heat crawled across my skin. My cheeks burned. His gaze moved slowly, and wherever it lingered, my body reacted. My heart raced. My stomach flipped. My hands grew damp.
I hated myself for it.
I clasped my hands behind my back and bit my lip, holding myself still.
“As I said before,” he continued, his voice firm, “you will address me as sir. You will show respect to those above you. Serena, my parents, my beta.”
His eyes hardened. “Inside, you will meet Serena and Kade. Remember. Only speak when spoken to.”
He turned away and opened the doors.
Something sharp twisted in my chest. It was not physical. It felt like rejection. Like being pushed away while still being held close.
I followed him inside.
The castle was even more breathtaking from within.
My jaw dropped before I could stop it. Light poured in through tall windows, spilling across pale walls. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling, scattering soft colors across the room. A grand staircase rose ahead of us, wide and elegant. To one side, a dining hall stretched farther than I could see. To the other, a living room dressed in white and blue.
I stood frozen, trying to take it all in.
“What is wrong with her?” A woman’s voice snapped me out of it.
Cindy leaned close. “Please close your mouth,” she whispered urgently.
“She looks like she has never seen wealth before,” the woman said again, amused.
“Trust me,” Demarion replied. His tone changed, warmer than before. “She hasn’t.”
My heart dropped.
He turned, wrapping his arms around a woman’s waist. He stood behind her, close, possessive.
“Baby,” he said, looking at her, “this is Adele Vernon. The matter I told you about.”
The woman made a small, irritated sound.
“Adele,” Demarion continued, “this is Serena. She is my mistress.”
The word hit me like a slap.
Mistress.
Serena turned her sharp gaze on me. “Are you stupid?”
The insult rang clear.
“Excuse me?” My voice rose before I could stop it. “Who do you think you are calling me stupid?”
The sound of skin striking skin echoed through the hall.
Pain exploded across my cheek.
“Watch your tone,” Serena sneered. “You slut.”
My vision flashed red.
I struck back without thinking.
“And you keep your hands to yourself.”
She gasped, clutching her face. “Babe,” she cried dramatically, turning to Demarion. “You are not going to let her do this, are you?”
Demarion’s eyes locked onto mine.
Dark and dangerous.
“Do not worry,” he said calmly. “She will be dealt with.”
And I knew then.
I was truly alone.
*Adele's point of view*One by one, everyone fell into place, returning to their groups without another argument. The energy was still tense, but at least it was controlled now.We headed back toward the castle. The walk felt shorter this time, maybe because no one dared to speak. The sound of footsteps filled the quiet, heavy against the ground. A few minutes later, we reached the castle yard.“Oh no… I lost it,” Cindy muttered suddenly.“What did you lose, babe?” Kade asked, his head turning quickly toward her.“My bracelet,” she said, her voice tight with worry. “I think it slipped out of my pocket.”“That could be anywhere,” Kade replied, placing his hands gently on her shoulders. “And it’s getting dark. We will look for it tomorrow.”“No,” Cindy said quickly, shaking her head. “I know where it is. I put it in my pocket when we entered the cliff clearing. I can find it.”Before Kade could stop her, she was already moving.“Does someone want to go with her?” Demarion asked, his voi
*Adele's point of view*I wore the outfit Demarion had picked out for me. It was a fitted blue top with thin white lines running across it, paired with blue jeans that hugged just right. The fabric felt soft against my skin, and for a moment I caught my reflection and tilted my head slightly. He really did not have bad taste. We met downstairs where Kade, Cindy, James, and Diana were already waiting. The air felt heavy, like something unseen was pressing down on all of us.Diana stood a little apart from the rest. She had not said a single word since everything happened. Her face had lost all color. It was pale and dull, like the life had been drained out of her. Her eyes looked distant, as if she was still trapped in whatever she had seen.No one spoke as we made our way back along the narrow path that led to the forest. Dry leaves crunched softly under our feet, the sound too loud in the silence. The deeper we went, the colder it felt. When we reached the clearing, they were already
*Adele's point of view*A sharp, rhythmic rapping echoed against the wood of the bedroom door and my heart instantly stopped beating in my chest. "Alpha, we are getting ready to head out." Kade’s voice drifted through the heavy barrier. I froze, heat climbing up my neck and flooding my face with a deep, stinging crimson. I stood up quickly and turned my back toward Demarion. I could not bring myself to meet his gaze.A moment ago, I had been on the edge of surrendering entirely to him. That realization hung in the air, thick and suffocating, making me painfully aware of every inch of my skin.He had seen me. And what I was about to do to him. I was completely exposed to him, stripped of everything I used to guard myself. He had scanned the landscape of my body, memorizing every perceived flaw and noting every imperfection. I felt raw, completely vulnerable under his scrutiny. He had studied my greatest insecurity and the very shape of me. Before this, I had rarely given my appearan
*Adele's point of view*I looked over my shoulder and met Claire’s eyes. She looked furious as her face was tight with anger. Yet I smiled slowly at her, feeling calm and clearly unbothered. Her glare only deepened as two warriors dragged her away toward the dungeon.Good. Let her be angry. We walked through the forest as the tension slowly faded with each step. The trees closed in around us, their shadows stretching long across the ground. Then suddenly, something hit me hard. I let out a startled laugh as I fell back onto the ground, leaves crunching beneath me."Cindy!"She lay on top of me, laughing."Woman, aren’t you pregnant?" I asked, still laughing as I tried to catch my breath."Yeah," she said with a grin, pushing herself up slightly, "but being a werewolf has its perks."I shook my head, smiling as she got off me and pulled me back to my feet. This time, she wrapped her arms around me properly, holding me tight."I missed you," she murmured against my neck.I hugged her ba
*Adele's point of view*A sharp wave of gasps spread through the clearing, rising from both packs at once. It rolled through the crowd like wind through dry leaves, followed by a rush of hushed whispers that tangled together."There’s no way they’re brothers.""But look at them. They have the same face.""I wouldn’t be surprised. Demarion’s father got around a lot.""Silence!" Both Demarion and Darrell roared at the same time.Their voices crashed loudly and heavily through the forest, shaking the air itself. Birds burst out of the trees, wings beating wildly as they fled the sudden pressure that settled over us. Even the ground felt tense beneath my feet.Demarion’s jaw tightened and his eyes burned as he spoke. "We are not brothers."Damien’s lips curved slightly, like he had been waiting for that. "Actually, we are." His voice was calm, too calm. "To be exact, we’re fraternal brothers, Demarion."He turned his head slowly, his gaze shifting past the crowd. "Isn’t that right, mother
*Adele's point of view*We moved through the forest in complete silence. No one spoke and it felt like each of us was locked inside our own thoughts while carrying something heavy that could not be shared. Our steps pressed into the earth, crushing dry branches beneath our feet. The sharp cracks echoed softly around us, mixing with the quiet sounds of the forest. Crickets sang in a steady rhythm, and small animals rushed away as we passed, disappearing into the shadows before we could get close.Damien walked ahead, leading the way, while I followed a few steps behind him. Gavin and Theo stayed close behind me, keeping Claire between them. She was quiet now, but the anger in her eyes had not faded. It burned silently, like she was waiting for the opportunity do what was on her mind. The rest of the pack moved behind us, their presence watchful. However, my mind drifted as we walked. Damien had been very clear about one thing. Kade needed to be there, and the thought would not leave me
*Demarion's point of view*The last thing she felt before darkness claimed her was my lips brushing softly against hers. I kissed her gently and softly as I tried to be careful with her. As if she were made of fragile glass. Then I lifted her into my arms. The moment her body settled against my che
*Adele's point of view* "How long do we have to wait for this signal?" I muttered impatiently."Just a few more seconds," James whispered, his eyes scanning the clearing ahead. And just as he said that, a figure walked toward the forest. He stopped only a few yards from where we were hidden. His b
*Adele's point of view* When Paul and I finally pulled into their driveway, the sky had already started dimming into evening shades. The soft porch light glowed like a welcome sign, and for the first time all day, my chest eased just a little.Home.Or at least, the closest thing to it.The car ha
*Adele's point of view* So far the road trip had been painfully quiet. Didn't mean it was peaceful. But it was just… empty. The kind of silence that made every small movement sound louder than it should. There was the hum of the engine, the tires rolling against the hard road, his slow breathing,
