Chapter 26.:

Ariana barely stands on her two wobbly legs with the support of her mother, wrapping her arm around her mother’s shoulder. Daria kissed her husband before she let him leave. Before he left, Peter covered their scent, leaving them near Longcron, heading himself deep into the city. To protect his family, he must lure whoever is waiting for them there and get them out. Once done, Daria can sneak inside with their daughter and get her to the passage before they find out he is just a decoy.

“Take care.” Daria whispered into the wind, letting those silent words catch up with the shadow of her husband. A little prayer for him to come back to them in one piece.

“Why did he leave us?” Ariana asks in a muffled voice. None of them told her the plan they had produced. During the day, they discussed their next strategy. Ariana slept, recovering from her exhaustion. Daria assumed telling her such fearful information would only worsen her health further.
