Chapter 8 : At the Party

Logan and Ellen made their way through the room with Ellen beside him. Ellen was very uncomfortable with the stares some men were giving her. They gaze at her with nothing but lust. Suddenly, She felt someone's hand surround engulfed hers. 

She looks up to see Logan looking at the men with fire. He was looking at them with dark green eyes. If looks could kill, they would have been six feet under by now.

Ellen who didn't like what was happening decided to lose the atmosphere decided to start a conversation. By the way, you didn't tell me the reason for this event.

Logan turned his attention to her responded with a growl. " The purpose of this event is a platform for my father to announce who the company will be handled by during his retirement ".

Ellen could sense the anger in his voice but I didn't know why he was angry if he was the one going to inherit all the wealth.

She was brought back from thought by Logan's voice. " Did you hear what I said ".

Argh no, sorry could you repeat what you just said. 

" I said am going to meet my father so you just wait right here for me. Don't go anywhere okay ". 

Okay, I will be here when you come back your highness. Ellen muttered with a slight bow. Logan looked at her with raised eyebrows and smiled. Ellen's heart skipped a beat when he smiles at her. His small was breathtaking. It showed his white teeth and a dimple that she didn't know he had.

You know, you should smile regularly instead of putting up a hard face all the time, Ellen said before the smile disappeared from his face he looked at her one more time before he disappeared in the crow.d

What a jerk, Ellen whispered to herself. She looked around the room if she could spot Karen but instead, her eyes met Rebecca's who was already looking at her with venom. What was she doing here? Ellen asked herself.

Rebecca made her way towards Ellen with sharp strides. " You clean up nice ", she said looking me her and down. How did you afford such a dress? This dress costs a lot of money so I wonder how a low-class girl like you could afford this.

" Are you already spending Logan's money? " Ellen wanted nothing but to slap her at that moment but she held herself back. Logan didn't buy anything for me, I bought it myself. Karen helped but she don't have to tell her that, she thought.

Rebecca looked at her with hated eyes. You think that wearing this dress will change who you are. You a pathetic good for nothing bitch.

I came here with my best attire hoping to get Logan's attention. But I didn't think that there would be a competition. I understand estimated you Ellen, but I won't again. You are becoming a hindrance in my path and if you are not careful you might get hurt.

" You are good I must say, you have trapped Logan in just one day. Wow just wow. Rebecca started bitterly. You should be giving the whores award of the season ".

Ellen's urge to slap Rebecca was so hand she hand to count to ten in her head. 

Rebecca was about to move past her when Ellen caught her hand. She won't let her go without giving Rebecca a piece of her mind.

I know that you don't love Logan, Ellen muttered. You just want him for selfish reasons.

Rebecca rolling her eyes angrily pulled her hand from Ellen's gasp.

You are calling me a whore, Ellen continued. You're the one who has slept your ways with half of the boys in our school and you are calling me a whore.

" Shut up, Rebecca crooned.  No, you Shut up. And keep your voice down, you don't want anyone to hear what kind of a bitch you are, do you? Ellen asked.

You thought you could come here and I will get intimidated by you. No girl, I ain't afraid of you. If you think I want Logan then yes I want him. And I love him and want to be with him and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Ellen confessed with passion.

" So you are challenging me Ellen.  You are so wrong if you think you stand a chance. You don't want to know what I can do to you ". 

She stated wickedly.

You can do whatever you want I don't care but take this in your head. I will be ready when you pull up any shots against me, She muttered.

Rebecca, moving closer to Ellen whispered in her ears. "May the best girl win ". She says and looked at Ellen with intense eyes. Ellen matched her with the same intense eyes as Rebecca backed away.

When she was out of view Ellen sighed with relief. Standing there, Ellen heard someone clear their throats behind her. She whirls around to see Logan smirking at her.

How long have you been spying on us? "A while, Logan answered. Oh, shoot. How much did you hear? " Enough to satisfy my judgment ".

Whatever you heard wasn't the truth I got carried away. I wanted to prove to her that I wasn't scared of her that's why I said I liked you but I didn't mean it.

Logan took slow strides towards her. " I didn't know you had it in you to be this violent. Perhaps I don't know you as well as I think. Ellen was about to respond when someone spoke over the microphone drawing everyone's attention.

A man in maybe his late forties or fifties. I could see the resemblance he and Logan shared. He was probably was Logan's father Anthony Knight, Ellen thought.

" Ladies and gentlemen. Is my pleasure to welcome all of you. Am very glad that you could make time to join me at this prestigious event. As I know many of you want to know the purpose of this event and without further delay I want all of you to know that am retiring as the CEO of Knights cooperation. 

Ellen heard gasps from the room. Many people were whispering God knows what to each. Ellen looked at Logan but he just had a hard angry face. Ellen could tell that he might know the news already and it's not a good one. 

Logan's father continued his speech when the room was once again silent.

" Most of you believe that I have one son and he will be the next CEO when I retire but that is not the case. I want my son to continue his education further to be more capable than even me so, I have decided to hand the company to my brother-in-law Eric Bennett. I would like to welcome the new CEO of Knights cooperation on the stage. 

The room burst into applauds. Some were too shocked to applaud and others just continued whispering to each other.

A man in a black suit made his way to the stage. Ellen looked at Logan through her lashes. His face was still hardened and he looked like he was about to burst into flames.

Eric spoke, " Thank you Anthony for giving me this opportunity. I know that is not an easy decision to give your trust to someone. But I won't let you down, know that your company is in good hands and I promise not to disappoint you.

Applause ranged through the room. Ellen looked at Logan. Are you alright? She whispered. 

Logan's face softened a bit. " Am alright ". I came to the event as my father requested now let's get out of here. He took hold of Ellen's hand. They were about to reach outside when Ellen stopped and asked.

Wait, what about Blake and Karen shouldn't they come with us? 

" No they are having fun and I don't want to disturb them. But I have texted Blake that we are leaving the party. Now let's go".

Wait, if we take the car what car will they come home with?. " I have taken care of that too so if you are done with the questions can we go now! He screamed at her face.

Ellen instantly got scared. He looked so angry. Ellen backed away a little. I am sorry, She whispered. I didn't mean to anger you. I apologize.

Let's go, Ellen muttered. Logan, face softened when he realized how he reacted. Ellen could tell that he was about to say something but she went past him not wanting to hear anything else from him.

Ellen got to where the car was. She waited for Logan to unlock the door. As soon as the door was unlocked she climbed in sat at the front seat. She buckled up and waited for him to get in. 

He got in the driver's seat. Logan glanced at Ellen wanting to say something but Ellen looked outside not wanting to head anything. Logan sighed. He started the car and drove them away. I didn't even get a glass of champagne for myself. Ellen thought.
