CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO—TAKEN

I cleaned my eyes to be sure that I was seeing properly. Am I mistaken? But mum is supposed to be dead, right? But then again, I didn’t see her body before she was buried. Could there have been a mistake somewhere?

Different thoughts filled my head but I had no answers to them. I blinked and in the next moment, they were out of my sight. I swiftly hastened my steps and walked in their direction, clinging onto the tiny hope that it could be mum.

The chances were slim, but I was willing to try my luck. My heart beat fast in my chest as I hastened my steps, images of mum swimming in my head. I remember her long shiny blonde hair, how it always came alive and glowed in the dark, just like mine. I looked exactly like her, but the younger version.

Just as I was about to take further steps, I felt heavy hands cover my mouth with something like a napkin placed over my nose. It happened in a split second and I was startled.
