Chapter 73

I was unsure what to make of the scene in front of me. Did Darius need me? Was Acan the one in danger? I soon noticed the gloves lying on the table, and I was surprised to see them there. But now that they were off, I could see something unsettling about his hands. Dark veins crawled up his skin, disappearing beneath his clothing. I had never seen anything like it before.

There was something different in Darius’s eyes, too—something swirling that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but I couldn’t deny it was there. Maybe it was something dark. Something wrong. I couldn’t articulate it, but my husband had definitely changed. I shouldn’t have expected anything less, considering where he had just returned from, but it left me feeling worried.
