LOGINMy heart stills.
Mind reeling with everything I read in my textbooks.
None of them seem to be applicable here. No one talked about being trapped in a net. With someone whose limbs are so tangled with mine that I have no idea where I start and where he ends.
I am also a bit ashamed to admit that I liked how his body has no choice but to be pressed against mine.
“How is this happening right now? Who did this?”
He sighs,
“If you kept your mouth shut like I asked, we would not have been in this position.”
This again? But I have to admit, he did tell me to keep quiet because they could see us, I never imagined this would be the consequences of not listening to him.
“Yes, but if you asked politely, we would not have ended up in this position.”
“Like hell I would be nice to the spawn of the devil.”
I shift until I am able to see the slope of his face, and it is almost impossible, in fact, he shifts along with me, groaning as he does.
“Can you stop moving?!”
“No. I need to see your face!”
He snorts.
“You keep calling me stupid, but obviously you’re the stupid one.” I tell him when he wouldn’t stay still enough for me to see his face.
“Yeah, tell it that to any one who’s from Crescent Moon and see if they believe.”
Ignoring him, I focus instead on how I could leave this place, away from this lunatic. My face is pressed against the side of his body, I can only twist enough to allow me see the thick ropes hoping us prisoners.
The ropes have to be incredibly strong to hold us up, with our weight combined, it should have broke.
“Is someone out there??”
“Are you dumb in addition to being stupid??” he hisses,
“Someone did this, and if they knew who I was, they will let us out.”
He cusses loudly.
I thought the humans were creative with their swear words until he speaks.
“If you want to die so desperately, do it when you’re alone. Do not drag me into your mess.”
A shiver runs up my spine.
Did he say die?
Surely the people who trapped us in here won’t kill us.
Especially if they knew who I am to the pack.
“Where are they??”
“Stop moving! Is that your arm??” he hisses in irritation, slapping away what he thinks is my arm.
I almost disappear into thin air.
Maybe I should disappear into thin air, maybe that is the only way I can be saved from this embarrassment.
Keeping my mouth shut, I turn around so my ‘arm’ isn’t pressed against him.
How and why did I have to get hard right now?
“They’re waiting to see if it’s just us.” he explains after a beat of silence,
My heart stutters. Why did I follow him out here again?
The first time I ever leave the tower and this is what happens.
Holly wanted to go with me when I finally leave the tower, she lives in the inner walls and has so many places she has book marked to show me.
“Who are they? Porders you called them?”
“Poachers.” he sighs, the fight may be draining out of him.
“They collect were people and sell them in the human world.”
The gasp that tears out of me is in disbelief.
“Uh, no. Were trafficking ended years ago, my father made that happen.” I say with pride. It’s one of the reasons there are statues of him everywhere, his face is on every textbook.
He single handedly went into the human world, rescued every kidnapped were person and returned them home safe and sound, he stopped dealing with humans after that and cut off contact with them.
It’s why I haven’t seen the remaining Marvel movies.
And it’s the reason my father is a kind and benevolent leader, whose shoes are too big for me to fill.
“Stupid heir.”
“Stop calling me stupid!!”
At that point, someone crawls out of the dark, my mate grows stiff and tense, his glare isn’t directed at me this one time.
And that makes me very anxious.
Licking my lip, I watch the person climb up the tree.
A short and large man, his face is marred with scars that run from one end of his face to another, they look like burns.
He would be pretty recognizable later if I have to pick him out of a line up.
“Do not say anything.” My mate whispers,
For some reason I decide to keep my mouth shut, not because I trust him, but because he’s the only one I kind of know out here, wherever here is.
I swallow and watch this man expertly pick the net away from the roots, and like we weigh nothing, he walks away with us in a wagon, wordlessly. He turns on a white beacon, turns it off and flicks it back on, in three quick successions, there’s another beacon in response.
A group effort then.
I bite my lip.
When did were person trafficking start again?? After all my father’s efforts to curb it.
“Where is he taking us?” I whisper,
My mate sighs.
“To whoever is willing to buy, and if you keep talking about your heritage, you’ll get passed around, a lot.”
I swallow.
My eighteenth birthday has ended by now, I can’t tell the time.
The wishes I made, to find my mate and for my wolf to finally awaken, two simple things normal people have naturally.
And this is what I get.
At least with me missing, my father would know that were trafficking started again.
“This happened because your father is a terrible leader by the way.”
I growl.
“Not this bullshit again.”
“Is it bullshit if it’s true? Your father hasn’t been a leader in so long, the people have been forced to sell off their kind. Poaching is a new hot job by the way. You wouldn’t know sitting in your tower and day dreaming about rainbows and butterflies.”
“Whatever your name is, if we don’t get sold tonight, I will make sure you get punished for running your mouth.”
“Why? You don’t like hearing the ugly truth about daddy dearest??”
Another growl slips past my lips.
“Go on then, fight me, use your alpha powers and get us out of here, I hear it’s amazing, that’s the only way your father has been able to rule in tyranny anyway.”
That does it.
I roll on top of him, my hand is free and sock him again.
He groans but quickly recovers, punching me with as much force.
“Your punches are weak, like your father truly is.” he sneers,
I have never hated someone as much as I do.
My chest is feels so tight, I focus all the energy on my right hand and with a single strike, the wagon explodes from underneath us, the net is broken and we’re free.
Our bodies are thrown out and we roll together.
“Finally, your stupid alpha powers worked.” My mate groans.
I blink when we finally stop rolling.
“Keep following this route, stay out of sight, if you make it, find out the truth about your father, and then come find me.” he says staggering and getting to his feet.
His hand is pressed against his head.
My head is still swimming.
“How will I find you again?”
That’s not what I should ask, that’s not what I should say. He is still accusing my father of something he is not.
He also said something about my alpha powers.
I have no idea what that means.
“You’ll know how to, like you did tonight.”
“Can you at least tell me your name??”
He does his disappearing act again, leaving me standing there with blood flowing from different parts of my body, heart in throat.
“Noah. Noah Harrow.” he whispers from behind me, when I turn around again, he is gone.
Like the wind, what’s left is the lingering sweet smell in the air.
He was gone, after wedging cracks in my perfect life.
This morning I woke up hopeful to meet the woman of my dreams, and instead, I got the man of my nightmares.
We hit the books after. He must have realized it after all, that nothing was going to work between us, and he’s given it up, which was fine by me. It wasn’t fine.It felt like someone had yanked my heart out of my chest right through my mouth, everything hurt and we haven't even severed our connection yet. I don’t read the book about mates anymore, it’ll only hurt to know every other person was tied to someone they could walk around with, but nit us. Instead I focus on my father’s history. He had become alpha after his father at age fourteen. The same age my books told me. His own father had died from heart break, his mate died during childbirth, and he had to step in. Fourteen is too young to be an alpha but he handled it.He was good to the people, the pack actually flourished. It was all good. The pack was as my textbooks described it. He was a good leader.Until he wasn’t. The book must have been recorded by a really honest record keeper, because every war, every single pers
Noah didn’t explain what he meant by that, he didn’t get the chance to, Declan met us on the rooftop and while I tried to jump away from him, he pulled me even closer to himself.“What are you guys up to?”“I’m taking him to the library.” Noah nodded to me, who’s heart was definitely beating with the intention of slipping through my mouth. Jet is presses against my mine, and I can hear him, for the first time ever. You’d think he would be excited to talk, instead, he keeps repeating one word over and over. ‘Mine.’I know he’s yours. Keep it down! I hiss into my mind, my wolf ignores me, living only for his other half inside Noah’s body. “You’re in luck, I have something to do at the library as well.”“That’s not luck.” Noah deadpans.Declan blinks at him, brows raised in question as he looks at me.“You guys aren’t fighting today, that’s good.”I shrug, unable to speak for fear that my heart would find the opening and jack hammer out of me. Noah turns with his arm on my shoulde
“Why?”“Because I don’t want to be foolish anymore.”Noah covers the distance between us, the air is charged again. His scent messing with my thoughts. “Let’s eat first. And then we’ll head to the library together.”I am skeptical of books.“Uhm, books? the same things that lied to me for years? Are we supposed to be trusting of it?”He cracks a smile. “You’re already suspicious of everything, good start. Now, food.”He places his hand on my shoulder, pushing me down on the makeshift bench on the roof. Several cigarette butts lay scattered around, he notices me looking at them and laughs. “They aren’t mine… at least not all of them.”I raise a brow at him,“Fine, a lot of them are mine.”I chuckle, it dries on my tongue when I realize the I can hear better, see better, his hand on my shoulder is doing all of this. The hum of desire was back, pressing against my skin, waiting, begging to be noticed. He must have felt it too, his hand drops and he leaves a reasonable gap between o
An apple flavored lollipop. He popped it into my mouth, my eyes flew open, feeling more than slightly disoriented, just as I started to get used to started getting used to the burst of sweetness, he pulled it out, and popped it into his mouth in a single, fluid motion. He flashed a grin at me, one that effectively sent my heart into an erratic sprint.“See you tomorrow.”I had only hummed in agreement, unable to form words. And then he was gone. The mate bond thing felt like I was being ripped in two as he skirted along the sides of the tower walls, and I watched my mate until he dissolved into a black dot running in the distance. And with him went my sleep. Because of that I missed my father this morning, he was gone before I woke up from the nap I forced myself to take. And somehow, I got here before him.How am I supposed to act?? Like last night didn’t happen? What’s the precedent for these types of things?? Are we friends now?? I mean we’ve exchanged saliva without kissing.
“Why would he do that??” Declan asked.I swallow. The hum of desire building under my skin keeps growing, and I am grateful for Declan’s presence or I would have done things I wouldn’t be able to take back. “Let’s get going, it’ll be dark soon.” Noah says, turning around easily. Completely unaffected by the things he’s saying and the ones he’s not.Declan looks back at me and I shake my head, lying to him that I have no idea what Noah was talking about. He smiles at me, although it’s troubled, I want to tell him not to worry about Noah and I, we are okay with whatever dance this was, our cross to bear after the moon goddess made her mistake. Walking through the school with a Royal by our side would have gotten us side eyes, but it’s Declan, so nobody bats an eye. He really is everyone’s friend. He greets everyone as we pass by them. Noah grumbles under his breath, but I know he likes that someone was making the Commoners feel welcome. Just before we step out of the gates, away
It was barely a hug.Our bodies barely touched. It was over as soon as it started. But the few seconds our bodies touched… I felt myself come alive. Every nerve ending in me came alive, like a burst of sunlight from his core ran straight into mine. Jet, howled, my ears popped, and for the those few seconds all of my senses were sharpened. I could see better. Hear better.I was no longer almost human. That wasn’t all.I wanted to touch him. Run my arms along his muscles, his chest, his neck, taste him… He pulled away quickly.I blinked and everything was gone, everything but the desire for him.He was my mate alright. Declan glances between us suspiciously, and I clear my throat, glancing at the man that walked away like he didn’t just stir stuff in my pants. “Gimme a minute, I need to ask him if he would like to come with us.”Declan opens his mouth to speak, then shakes his head, taking that as my sign, I let the hum pull me to him. From how he starts walking faster, he mu
