LOGINMy heart stills.
Mind reeling with everything I read in my textbooks.
None of them seem to be applicable here. No one talked about being trapped in a net. With someone whose limbs are so tangled with mine that I have no idea where I start and where he ends.
I am also a bit ashamed to admit that I liked how his body has no choice but to be pressed against mine.
“How is this happening right now? Who did this?”
He sighs,
“If you kept your mouth shut like I asked, we would not have been in this position.”
This again? But I have to admit, he did tell me to keep quiet because they could see us, I never imagined this would be the consequences of not listening to him.
“Yes, but if you asked politely, we would not have ended up in this position.”
“Like hell I would be nice to the spawn of the devil.”
I shift until I am able to see the slope of his face, and it is almost impossible, in fact, he shifts along with me, groaning as he does.
“Can you stop moving?!”
“No. I need to see your face!”
He snorts.
“You keep calling me stupid, but obviously you’re the stupid one.” I tell him when he wouldn’t stay still enough for me to see his face.
“Yeah, tell it that to any one who’s from Crescent Moon and see if they believe.”
Ignoring him, I focus instead on how I could leave this place, away from this lunatic. My face is pressed against the side of his body, I can only twist enough to allow me see the thick ropes hoping us prisoners.
The ropes have to be incredibly strong to hold us up, with our weight combined, it should have broke.
“Is someone out there??”
“Are you dumb in addition to being stupid??” he hisses,
“Someone did this, and if they knew who I was, they will let us out.”
He cusses loudly.
I thought the humans were creative with their swear words until he speaks.
“If you want to die so desperately, do it when you’re alone. Do not drag me into your mess.”
A shiver runs up my spine.
Did he say die?
Surely the people who trapped us in here won’t kill us.
Especially if they knew who I am to the pack.
“Where are they??”
“Stop moving! Is that your arm??” he hisses in irritation, slapping away what he thinks is my arm.
I almost disappear into thin air.
Maybe I should disappear into thin air, maybe that is the only way I can be saved from this embarrassment.
Keeping my mouth shut, I turn around so my ‘arm’ isn’t pressed against him.
How and why did I have to get hard right now?
“They’re waiting to see if it’s just us.” he explains after a beat of silence,
My heart stutters. Why did I follow him out here again?
The first time I ever leave the tower and this is what happens.
Holly wanted to go with me when I finally leave the tower, she lives in the inner walls and has so many places she has book marked to show me.
“Who are they? Porders you called them?”
“Poachers.” he sighs, the fight may be draining out of him.
“They collect were people and sell them in the human world.”
The gasp that tears out of me is in disbelief.
“Uh, no. Were trafficking ended years ago, my father made that happen.” I say with pride. It’s one of the reasons there are statues of him everywhere, his face is on every textbook.
He single handedly went into the human world, rescued every kidnapped were person and returned them home safe and sound, he stopped dealing with humans after that and cut off contact with them.
It’s why I haven’t seen the remaining Marvel movies.
And it’s the reason my father is a kind and benevolent leader, whose shoes are too big for me to fill.
“Stupid heir.”
“Stop calling me stupid!!”
At that point, someone crawls out of the dark, my mate grows stiff and tense, his glare isn’t directed at me this one time.
And that makes me very anxious.
Licking my lip, I watch the person climb up the tree.
A short and large man, his face is marred with scars that run from one end of his face to another, they look like burns.
He would be pretty recognizable later if I have to pick him out of a line up.
“Do not say anything.” My mate whispers,
For some reason I decide to keep my mouth shut, not because I trust him, but because he’s the only one I kind of know out here, wherever here is.
I swallow and watch this man expertly pick the net away from the roots, and like we weigh nothing, he walks away with us in a wagon, wordlessly. He turns on a white beacon, turns it off and flicks it back on, in three quick successions, there’s another beacon in response.
A group effort then.
I bite my lip.
When did were person trafficking start again?? After all my father’s efforts to curb it.
“Where is he taking us?” I whisper,
My mate sighs.
“To whoever is willing to buy, and if you keep talking about your heritage, you’ll get passed around, a lot.”
I swallow.
My eighteenth birthday has ended by now, I can’t tell the time.
The wishes I made, to find my mate and for my wolf to finally awaken, two simple things normal people have naturally.
And this is what I get.
At least with me missing, my father would know that were trafficking started again.
“This happened because your father is a terrible leader by the way.”
I growl.
“Not this bullshit again.”
“Is it bullshit if it’s true? Your father hasn’t been a leader in so long, the people have been forced to sell off their kind. Poaching is a new hot job by the way. You wouldn’t know sitting in your tower and day dreaming about rainbows and butterflies.”
“Whatever your name is, if we don’t get sold tonight, I will make sure you get punished for running your mouth.”
“Why? You don’t like hearing the ugly truth about daddy dearest??”
Another growl slips past my lips.
“Go on then, fight me, use your alpha powers and get us out of here, I hear it’s amazing, that’s the only way your father has been able to rule in tyranny anyway.”
That does it.
I roll on top of him, my hand is free and sock him again.
He groans but quickly recovers, punching me with as much force.
“Your punches are weak, like your father truly is.” he sneers,
I have never hated someone as much as I do.
My chest is feels so tight, I focus all the energy on my right hand and with a single strike, the wagon explodes from underneath us, the net is broken and we’re free.
Our bodies are thrown out and we roll together.
“Finally, your stupid alpha powers worked.” My mate groans.
I blink when we finally stop rolling.
“Keep following this route, stay out of sight, if you make it, find out the truth about your father, and then come find me.” he says staggering and getting to his feet.
His hand is pressed against his head.
My head is still swimming.
“How will I find you again?”
That’s not what I should ask, that’s not what I should say. He is still accusing my father of something he is not.
He also said something about my alpha powers.
I have no idea what that means.
“You’ll know how to, like you did tonight.”
“Can you at least tell me your name??”
He does his disappearing act again, leaving me standing there with blood flowing from different parts of my body, heart in throat.
“Noah. Noah Harrow.” he whispers from behind me, when I turn around again, he is gone.
Like the wind, what’s left is the lingering sweet smell in the air.
He was gone, after wedging cracks in my perfect life.
This morning I woke up hopeful to meet the woman of my dreams, and instead, I got the man of my nightmares.
“Why would you think about catching a missile???” Noah asks, sniffing.Glancing at the crowd, they had dispersed, working with Declan and The Saviors, perfecting the strategy they had come up with. My eyes fall on his face again, his face is wet with tears, eyes puffy and red, his lower lip trembling, lip ring glistening. “I didn’t think actually.”“And that makes it so much better? I could have lost you, forever.” his voice drops, his hands unconsciously holding on to me tighter, fresh tears roll down his cheeks and I swipe it away with my thumb. Or what used to be my thumb. My hands are burnt to the point where I can’t recognize them anymore.Noah’s eyes fall on my hands, and he whimpers. The sound breaks my heart.I hate that I caused him so much hurt. “Look at you.” he cries,The rest of me isn’t much better, my healing abilities were wonky because I had been repressed for so long, but with him by my side, the process is speeding up, not as fast as I would like though. We’re
“LOOK OUT!”Kicking my legs as far as possible, pushing myself off the earth, hands outstretched before me, my bad arm hurts, but I don’t care, there’s no way this people would get hurt on my watch. The force and heat of the missile pushes me back,“AHHHHHHHH!!”It is too hurt, it feels like I am burning all over. There’s a blinding hot white pain in my arm, I should let it go, save myself. But it’ll land on them, and I can’t..So I pull my weight. It fucking hurts, using the alpha powers, with a burst of strength, I throw the missile up in the sky, it explodes somewhere above the same time I hit the ground with a loud thud. “Eddie!!!” Eva screams, rushing to me.Everything hurts.Something smells like burnt flesh. My ears are ringing and my vision is woozy. “Is everyone okay?” I ask, voice small, shrapnel must have fallen through the clouds, and I can’t let it hit anyone… Nothing is moving. No part of me is willing to stand up. Come on…“Eddie.. can you hear..” Eva’s voice flo

“I haven’t seen Stephen yet.” Holls says when she reaches me,I feel so relieved that I pull her into the kind of hug that’s possible while holding a child. She takes several deep breaths against my body. “Thank you for coming back safely.”“Thank you for being safe.”Around us the people are buzzing with a different kind of tension. Royals, Middle class, and Commoners are mixed for the first time. Being close to death might have taken the edge off, but they still don’t know how to interact. Plus, there are in the tower, they associate this place with my father. “This is Maria, Maria, this is my best friend, Holly.”Holly smiles at her, and then plucks her from my hold, it’s a great relief for my arm, but I do miss the weight of the child. “What’s happened with Stephen?”She swallows, looking away from the child briefly. “He asked me to come with Declan, and he would go find other survivors and he is yet to get here.” And so has Millicent, and the Harrow brothers.None of their
Noah.I have to find Noah. Pushing a boulder that had fallen on my shoulder, off me, it hurts, but it’s only a slight buzz in the background. The mark he had given me was thrumming with fear so thick I can almost taste it. He was in danger. I have to find him.“Eddie?” Millicent pants next to me, then she dissolves into a fit of cough.“Shit. Are you okay?”She takes the hand offered to her, my right hand, the wounded one, gritting my teeth, pull her off the floor. “Oh my god your arm!” she screeches,“Are you okay?” Her face and hair is covered in dust, a few scratches on her face but nothing too serious.“Yes I am, why aren’t you healing??” she was panicking.Hearing that makes it a little easier to breathe.Overhead, missiles are still dropping, but nothing was coming down on us anymore. The pack would be wiped out at this rate.Who is doing this? “We have to get everyone to safety.” I tell her,She looks around us, a small shaky breath escaping her.The make shift podium
“A turtle neck sweatshirt. That isn’t obvious at all.” Millicent says with a sigh after I finish dressing for the announcement this morning. When I walked in early this morning, she had wordlessly taken me in, not saying anything about my expression, or the fact that I smelled exactly like him. She had taken one look at the mark and made a small noise at the back of her throat.“If you cover your neck as well, everyone would assume it’s mutual.”And so she does. When we walk out of the room together, I can’t shake the feeling of letting Noah down. “There they are.” My father laughs, eyes darting between the two of us like he was expecting us to have another child soonest. We do a courtesy bow to him.“Now, let’s go announce the heir to the people.”There has been a scheduled live broadcast, everyone would tune in, not because they cared about the alpha, but the opposite. They were curious about what he wanted to say.I imagine everyone in the pack sitting in front of their tele
