“What the fuck was that?” Dreyma groaned.

“I told you, kin’s easier to teach,” he shrugged and patted me on my back, “She’s got the way.”

“Are you windtouched?” I looked back to him thinking that had to be how he knew, but I didn't think the shadow man was.

“No such luck,” he sighed, “I’ve just been around someone who is. So I picked up a few tricks.”

I guess it was a little theatrical of an approach but it at least worked. For what it was worth, too I felt like I really did know the way. M

  • Honor in the House of Wolves   Part 5: Queen of Wolves Chapter 31: His End

Dinner went off without a hitch. Hectyr was mysteriously absent and I engaged as many people as possible. Throughout dinner I was presented with young women and daughters wanting to join my court. Dimitris was right. I had started something. It was exhausting too. After I lost count they all started to blend together. My love. Dimitris called silently and rested a hand on mine. You are allowed to tell them to leave you alone. You have met the prominent families and have no social obligations to the others. I sighed and shook my head. Its not fair to them. Just because they werent seen as favorable flvefore doesnt mean-“You're going to be there all night.” Hectyr hummed in my ear with a laugh. I looked around expecting to see him but he was nowhere. Even at the far end of the table where Nok enjoyed his quiet calm meal with Mani there was not a single empty seat that would have allowed him to sit.Without some direction I didnt know where to flow my voice and so I just decided to

“So how is this going to actually work then?” Hectyr scoffed and continued to pace around my side of the bed. Dimitris continued his physical presence making sure to have at least once hand on me at all times, “I will consent to appointments pre-approved with accompanying invitations.” He then pulled me back against him as he leaned over to look down at me, “If you’re going to insist on him being around I’m going to insist he respect you and treat your time as valuable.”I cocked an eyebrow “You want him to like invite me places? Don’t you think you’re being a bit unfair given how you acted with me and Nok when we first arrived?”“Last I recalled, I sent an invitation every time.” He smirked, “I also recall perfectly written letters that expressed how valuable I believed your time to be.”“Oh written invitations?” My eyes lit up and then I turned back to Hectyr, “That’d be cute!”“The queen has spoken, written invitations.” Dimitris’s glare back and snide tone clued me in on what rea

“Are you going to answer her?” Hectyr crossed his arms narrowing his eyes at the guards. They stood, straight backed and at attention the one who looked back to me answered. “Sir, we-”“You weren’t going to respond?” Hectyr cocked an eyebrow. “I thought you were trained better than that.”“Yes sir.” they both answered. “Okay, you’re dismissed. I’ll walk her back to her room.” “Sir,” the guard objected, “The king ordered us to take her.” Hectyr nodded, “I’m still your captain right? Seems to me like you should listen to me and let me deal with the king. Now dismissed.” They clicked their legs together and bowed before disappearing back into the antechamber. I was a little disappointed they were so quick to leave me. Wasn’t I supposedly the queen now? Didn’t that mean anything? Shouldn’t they have wanted to protect me just slightly more? “Come on.” Hectyr flicked his thumb behind him as he spun around. “We need to talk.” “Talk?” I scoffed but continued after him. “Yes,” he smirk

“You will listen to me.” I growled, lowering my gaze as I struggled to look intimidating. “Dimitris.” My voice was still low as I positioned myself between him and Polaris. With my patience wearing thin, he continued to have his back to me. The guards were closing in. Nok had taken a step forward too, his stance was low, arms outstretched as I saw his dagger-like nails ready to try to see how far he could get. “LOOK AT ME!” I snapped, my voice demanded something from him and he was going to deny me. That’s when my last effort was placed. I flooded him with as much emotion as I could. If he was going to ignore me here so I was going to make sure he was a wreck internally. Everything about my hatred for what he allowed to happen to innocent people was his now. It caused him to stumble backward slightly. I knew the way to bring Dimitris Attaason to his knees but when it finally came to it I couldn't hurt him. I couldn’t be that final nail in his coffin. I pulled it all back as quickly a

Looking down over the throne room I thought back to the first time I entered this room. It seemed like a lifetime ago where the prospect of hating Dimitris was still at the forefront of my mind. He was so ready to destroy Nok that day. Today his focus was going to be on Hectyr. My focus was on Hectyr. “Maybe I should go back to my room.” I sighed. The hall below was packed tightly with courtiers, their various colorful outfits and hairstyles made it look like a terribly mixed rainbow. Most of them seemed to be hiding their fae natures, but every so often there would be that one younger courtier standing out. Today I couldn’t help but look at the white blotch near the front, a fine ring around them. Up here it was apparently what was happening, down there though I’d have never been able to see it. I also wouldn’t have been able to see a few rows behind them, young girls pointing and leaning toward each other, no doubt spawning more false rumors about the family and Polaris. She was

Dimitris saved me some time later and took me to sit down as he handed me a large glass of water. “You’ve been busy.” I laughed between gulps, “Understatement.” Then I looked around. That golden masked fae was still gone. “Did you see everyone I was dancing with?” He shook his head, “I saw a fe

Dimitris had gone over how he would enter with me what felt like a hundred times. I was a flight risk after all. If he thought explaining it would calm my nerves he was completely wrong. My legs were getting weak the closer we got to the antechamber. The throne room, I was told, was transformed int

The day of the masquerade could not have come quick enough. I had taken enough walks around the castle stopping just shy of Hectyr’s tower to where Yvet swore I’d wear a hole in the floor. Hectyr never came down for dinner, he never showed his face, and I wasn't able to ever thank him. Everything

“Is Sage okay?” I looked over to the door expecting some other visitor. “Odda’s watching her.” he nodded. “He’s gotten to know her pretty well since he’s been back.” It had been a while since I felt the pain in my stomach, the medics had done a fine job at treating the pain physically. Mentally
