Akira’s POV
This is one of the days I regret being born. Ever hate your existence? I hate mine. As far back as my memory could take me, all I remember is being maltreated and belonging to no one at all. No family, no siblings and no friends. Just some lowly dirty omega no one wants to associate with. Other girls my age usually have a best friend to help them feel better, but then there’s me; the cursed omega everyone hates. I was instantly brought back to reality by the sting of my master’s whip on my back. I crawled forward in so much pain trying to escape the agony but it felt like an impossible task. I cared less about how the ground was dirty and the only thing on my mind was to escape this cursed life. I looked up to him, my eyes pleading for mercy but his anger was obvious and I wonder what exactly my offense was this time. He had a cruel smirk on his face as he towered over my weak body deriving joy in what he did. “You useless wretch! You are of no use to me!” he spat. His saliva splattering all over my face but that wasn’t a problem to me. I was used to it already and the only thing I wanted to stop was the whipping. “You made my guest make fun of me for having a weak slave that can barely get anything done without messing it up.” he continued with another whip landing on my back again. I felt so weak due to the wolfsbane laced on the whip he used to inflict pain on me. He ensured he always had his whip laced with wolfsbane so that my injuries would not heal fast. “I should sell you to someone who would keep you in check. Maybe, just maybe you might be better.” he spat again and all I could do was whimper in pain. Nothing he said mattered at the time because my body was already too weak from the pain I felt all over. While the whole drama was going on, my stomach growled. ‘Not again’ I muttered under my breath. My master has denied me food for about three days and I barely survived on just water till this present second. “What was that?” he asked, hearing the sound of my stomach non-stop growling. “Nothing Sire.” I responded hastily before he had the chance to whip me again. At this point, I doubted if I could take any more whipping. He raised his hands up like he was going to whip me and I whimpered in fright and stayed as still as I could, trying so hard not to provoke my master. The minute I thought he wasn't going to whip me, I felt a very loud thud on my back and I moaned in agony. I lacked the strength to sob and the only thing I was left with were mere prayers to the moon goddess. “This is very exciting, do you like it?” he asked me, smiling so wide. I shook my head from feeling so much anguish, he went on dragging me and whipping me. He did as he liked and I just remained there hoping for a rescue. He had me dragged around with my back filled with so much cut as I bled from the injuries I obtained. I noticed my master suddenly came to a halt which led me to look up slowly. My eyes met with that of the alpha supreme. I suddenly felt an electrifying connection between myself and the alpha supreme and I wondered if he felt it too. Our eyes stayed locked in and I would have bet with my life that he felt what I felt, yet he just stood there staring at me. “Look away you animal.” my master’s voice cursed and i turned to the side immediately to avoid another whip. It was enough that I felt really embarrassed being before the alpha supreme in this manner. The best I could do was avoid being whipped again. I heard a growl from the alpha supreme which made it obvious that he hated the way I was being treated by my master. He walked towards us and circled around us, making my master tremble in so much fear. I had no idea what that was about but it was evident that my master was scared to his bones. “I already enforced a law that prohibited slavery and torture, why do you have her treated like this?” the alpha Supreme’s voice echoed in the air. “I… I'm… we…” my master stuttered so much that he could barely say a word. “I’ll ask again, why are you brutalizing this wolf?” he asked again with a coaxed voice. “She stole from me.” he blurted out and my eyes instantly widened from the blatant lie he just told. “That is a lie.” I heard a voice echo from the other side. “Yes, he is lying.” another voice echoed. “Punish him.” a third voice echoed which prompted me to look up. I could see they were the wolves that fed me wherever my master starved me. They must have been tired of how badly he treated me. “Take him to the dungeon.” the alpha supreme commanded his shoulders instantly. I heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing that, happy that the moon goddess finally heard my cry. I wanted to thank the alpha supreme but I could barely say a word. I had no idea if it was the excitement I felt from being free of if I was just too weak and hungry to say anything. He looked at me and all I could do was plead for mercy with my eyes while I laid on the floor helplessly. “Help her up and take her to the palace. The royal physician should begin her treatment immediately.” he instructed the guard that was left with him. “The royal physician?” the guard asked for confirmation. “You heard me right, Lukas, yes. The royal physician.” the alpha supreme resounded. The guard wasted no time in carrying me up on his shoulders like I was some feather. We soon arrived at the palace and I was taken to the chambers of the alpha supreme. My body was matted with blood and my injuries were deep. The royal physician wasted no time in telling his female apprentice to thoroughly clean me up before he started treating me. After a few minutes, she was done with the clean up and she called him to come treat me. He did so cautiously but he had a bitter expression on his face as he did so. I could not read his thoughts but it was obvious that he wasn't happy with what he saw. After treating me, he walked towards the direction where lukas stood. “Her injuries are severe and the chances of her survival are slim. Who asked you to bring her here?” I heard the physician speak to Lukas. “My Lord asked her to be brought here, do I tell him these exact words?” Lukas asked him. “Yes, he needs to come see her just in case she doesn't make it” the physician said to Lukas and he wasted no time in leaving to deliver the message. In less than ten minutes, the alpha supreme arrived and I could tell that he wasn’t happy with what he was told due to the facial expression he had on. “What is this I hear?” he asked the physician and the physician repeated the exact same words he said to lukas. “I do not care how you do it but she must not die.” the alpha supreme instructed him. “I’m sorry, Alberto, but this is beyond me. Her wounds are months old and filled with infections. She is malnourished and lacking what she needs for recovery. Only the mercies of the moon goddess can heal her right now.” the physician explained. The alpha supreme walked to me and I could hear the pounding of my chest from so much anxiety. “I do not care how, but you must not die.” he whispered in my ear and it sounded like a warning. Fear gripped me and I wondered if my situation only became worse.Sapphire’s PovThe hallway was empty and cold, like a vacuum had sucked all the warmth from it. Even my skin felt dry. Was it just me or was Alberto eerily silent as we approached the courtyard? While he wasn't usually chatty, he seemed stiffer than usual, his hand staying on the hilt of his sword, compared to the version of him I saw a moment ago. I could feel his authority exuding from him though, even in his exhausted state. We finally stepped into the courtyard and the sight before me literally stopped my heart. The palace guards were frozen, literally. A thin sheet of frost covered their armor, their eyes wide open, staring straight ahead. At the center of them stood a woman who looked less like a wolf and more like a piece of the moon itself. Her hair was a shock of white, flowing in waves down her back, blending with her moon-pale skin. I raised an eyebrow noticing her iridescent armor; as I approached, it changed color from silver to blinding silver to deep indigo. It was ab
Sapphire’s PovThe four walls of the room were cold, but not as cold as the memory of Vane's fingers bruising my wrist. Yes, he had to use a bit of force to take the signet ring from me because I wasn't just going to hand it over to him. All the assurances I was given by Alberto fell on deaf ears. I wondered why he was so convinced that I would steal something so precious, so priceless, knowing the consequences of such an act.My eyes hurt from crying too long, and I was already starting to have a slight headache. Not so much from the incident, but more from the flashes of images across my eyes whenever I closed them. Repeatedly, I kept seeing myself in the library or in the pits, but the environment was different from how I remembered. They were both plunged in darkness, and there was a shadow looming over me. What did the shadow mean? And why those two locations? I had never felt more alone and unwanted than now. Alberto should have listened to me and not brought me back here to
Alberto’s Pov"The lady has been placed under quarantine..." The word kept echoing in my ears. "What did you say?" I asked again. The exhaustion that had been dragging at my heels had long evaporated, replaced by white-hot rage. The only thing sparing these men from my wrath was that I had learned to control my anger over the years. I could already feel my wolf scratching at the surface, struggling to be released and rain fire on the ones who dared touch its mate."We follow the orders of the one with the signet ring," the guard who had spoken earlier replied. "And he demands that she be placed under quarantine until her condition has improved." I straightened, managing to mask the shock on my face. Last I checked, I had given the ring to Sapphire. So what was this about? And there was no way she would place herself on quarantine."It seems you have forgotten that I am the owner of the signet ring, the Alpha himself." He looked pointedly at my left hand, which of course was missing
Alberto’s PovThe wind at the High Ridge hissed like the sound of skin peeling off bones. I had pushed my horse till its lungs were ready to burst, my own body growing more and more exhausted with every mile we rode since we left the palace. From the faces of the men who had accompanied me, I could see that the exhaustion was not restricted to only me. I was ready to take up Sapphire's offer to stay; after all, I yearned to hear her say words like that to me. But the report of the breach wouldn't let me rest. Another territory had been erased, and I feared that more would follow if I did not take action. But what action would I take against an evasive demon? Or worse still, against my own brother? Now here I was, walking along the perimeter of the High Ridge, an expanse of land inhabited by the middle-class members of the Moonfall pack. "I can't believe this," I muttered under my breath, staring at the grey void stretching forth. I expected to see smoke, or the charred remains of
Sapphire’s PovAn hour later, I stood at the top of the dungeon stairs, well aware that Alberto was no longer within the palace walls. He had left with a few men, not explaining what exactly he was off to do, leaving me worried. The way he had handed me his signet ring, like he expected to die on this mission of his—I did not like that.I shook my head. Why did I even care? I should want him dead so that I could finally be free, right? I sighed against the silence, wishing my thoughts would be as still as the air. I glanced around again, half-expecting someone to materialize behind me—by "someone," I meant this "Vane" that Alberto had spoken of. What did he look like? Why was he a threat to me?"You cannot pass, my lady," the guard at the dungeon entrance said as I approached. His voice was firm, and he gazed right into my eyes. I looked down at the signet ring. It was too big for my fingers, so I had threaded it onto a silver chain around my neck, feeling the full weight of its resp
Alberto’s PovI blinked against the bright light streaking in through the curtains disoriented for a moment. From what I could recall, I was not supposed to be in my room yet. I was sparring with Alberto, then scared stiff by the cold feeling in me before I passed out. How did I get here? And most importantly, what...I glanced at my side in shock, feeling the pads of fingers pressing into my palm. The sight of the owner jolted me into full consciousness. Alberto He was slumped in the armchair beside the bed, still in his tunic from yesterday. Was it just me, or was his sun-warmed skin unusually pale now? His head was tipped back, dark curls clinging to his forehead, slick with sweat.Unlike the last time I saw him resting, he looked absolutely exhausted. "Alberto," I whispered, sitting up, not taking my eyes off him. What happened to him? Just as the question flashed through my mind, I chided myself. He was the Alpha of the entire pack. Of course he was exhausted.Every decision la
Kael's POVI was preparing a meal for Sapphire to eat outside of the tent. Elira walked up to me and helped me cut some herbs for her to drink.“I admire your devotion to her.”. She said calmly.“I'd do anything for her, anything”. “I hope you'd be ready to le
Sapphire’s POV Kael sighed and sat beside me. "A long time ago, when I served under Alberto, I wasn’t just a guard. I was trained for something else, something darker. The High Council used me to find and silence threats. I was an enforcer, Sapphire. I did things I’m not proud of. I followed order
Sapphire's POVThe moment I jolted awake, I knew something was wrong. The pain wasn’t sharp like a wound or sudden like a cramp. It was a deep, rolling nausea that started in my spine and crept through my entire body like crawling fire. My bones ached and my skin burned. And my heart, gods, my hea
Alberto’s POVThe moon was high and it casted an eerie glow on the road as I rode through the marshes alone. I had lied to everyone to leave the pack house. I needed to see a witch who would help me find Sapphire. The guards believed I was heading to the northern borders for council. Fools. I had
