Asher had once told me I was a good liar, I had to believe he was right, because only then would this plan work.

“I guess this is where you let go of me and walk away without another word?” I questioned, but he gave no response—he did, however let go of my hand.

I watched him walk away, but before he got too far, I began the act.

A cry escaped my lips, as I wrapped my hands around my stomach.

“Ash—” I gasped, breaking off my own words.

Tears filled my eyes—that part wasn't so hard to accomplish.

Now he’d turned back to me.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m… fine,”

He made his way to me. I let my eyebrow furrow, giving the expression that I was in some kind of internal pain, and when I stumbled, purposely losing my own footing—I knew he’d catch me and that he did.

His eyes were wide with worry and for some reason, that filled me with satisfaction.

“I’m taking you to the healers,” he announced, before picking me up.

They’ll know. If he took me to the healers, they'd tell him I was completely fine

Liam’s POVFor the last thirty minutes I'd been standing outside the Personal Ward, wondering if the cries from Kate were a signal for help or… well the other thing.I paced the doorway, waiting, but then came to a stop when I noticed the silence.Silence wasn’t always good. Silence could mean she’d been hurt, silence could mean—The door was pulled open, and I came face to face with a very naked Asher, covered in bruises.“I need a new set of clothes—for Kate, and pants for me.”Clothes. That was a good thing. It meant she was alive—and well enough to wear them.I nodded, before walking away.*Now I sat in Asher’s office, unable to shake away the nerves I’d been feeling ever since I walked in. He was still at Kate’s chambers, making sure her… bruises were tended to. But soon enough, he arrived. Staring at him, it was almost impossible to believe that this same man had just been in a coma hours ago.“Did I keep you waiting, Beta?”“I just arrived,” that was a lie, but I figured the

“Asher… I don't think we should do this here,” I breathed, despite the burning desire coursing through me. We were in a healing ward and he’d just awoken from a coma, it wasn’t exactly the right time or place to have sex. But it was either he hadn't registered my words or had chosen to ignore it.In the next second, he was free of his own clothes. And I realized this was really going to happen—right here, in the healing room.“He wants you,” the words were Asher’s, but the voice wasn’t. With shocking realization, I recalled that I’d heard that voice before—when he’d rescued me from drowning and spoken a single word: ‘Run’. It had been the same rough, gravel voice. “Who?” I questioned,“Dhar. My wolf,” he said in that same voice that rattled my bones. He took a fist full of my hair and inhaled deeply, “He said he likes your scent.” “I—” I began, but my words were cut off when he thrusted into me hard, and a gasp of pain escaped me. He ran his hands through my hair once again, seemin

I walked into the Private Ward where Asher had been kept. There were about a dozen tubes running into him, all passing strange fluids into his body. His eyes remained shut, but even in this state, he didn’t look to be at peace. He looked like he was in… pain. I’d never thought I'd one day see Asher Knox, the Mad Alpha, this vulnerable. The thought brought tears to my eyes, but I wouldn’t cry. Not now. His wet hair fell over his eyes, and his skin had grown pale, but he still looked enchantingly beautiful. Liam and Trace were the only ones in here. Jane had to leave as we couldn’t have the other pack members asking questions. Right now, the only set of people aware of Asher’s state were the healers, and Liam had instructed them to keep this to themselves for the time being. But in a pack as gossip-hungry as this one, it was all a matter of time before the news about the Alpha in coma leaked.“There is nothing else we can do for him,” Trace said to me, “Other than… wait.”“I have an

I felt Liam and Jane’s gazes on me, and I could tell that their thoughts matched mine.Trace though, oblivious to the exchanged glances, spoke on. “Zelvaxol is a mate-bond shock stimulant that has proven useful in cases like this, it could increase the chances of him making it out alive. But its usage inflicts great pain on both parties—”“And so that makes it dangerous to the Luna since she’s with child,” Liam cuts in, and Trace nodded. “Usually the pain is harmless, but with a child growing in your womb… there’s a chance it could lead to a miscarriage, that’s when it gets dangerous.” I was supposed to choose between saving Asher at the expense of my unborn child and It wasn’t supposed to be one I spent a long time deciding. Afterall, Asher was the Alpha and that immediately made him top priority above everything else. But what Trace didn’t realize was that since Asher and I were no longer mates, taking the dose would only put my unborn child at risk and wouldn’t do a thing to incr

KATE’S POVI woke up to the pounding on my door.I checked the time—it was definitely ‘too early in the morning for this’ o’clock. Walking out of my room, I headed to the main door. It was Liam. “Do you know what time it is? Plus, why weren’t you at the party last night….?”My words trailed off when I looked at him—like really looked at him.“What’s wrong, Liam?”“It’s nothing—”“It doesn’t look like nothing to me. You look like you’d just seen a ghost. Or worse.”He ran his hands through his hair, only then did I notice how hard he was breathing—like he’d ran a marathon before arriving here.“It’s Asher. He's… not well.” he said and I straightened. “What do you mean?” I asked, panic rising in my chest.“I mean… he's unconscious. I’d taken him to the healing room—”“Take me to him this instant,”“I can’t do that. The healers are working on him, you won’t be able to see him right now.”I shoved past him but he didn’t try to stop me, even as I pushed open the door and sprinted for

Liam’s POVThe footsteps announced Jane’s return. She paused by the door, perhaps noticing that her door lock had been tempered with.I heard the click of what had to be a gun, and then she pushed the door open, her gun aimed at me.“gods, Liam. I could have killed you,” she hissed,“But you didn’t, so I guess that isn’t exactly a problem.” I said, lifting the half-filled bottle of whiskey I'd found in her wine cellar minutes earlier and taking a hard gulp. She walked in, shutting the door behind her.“Are you drunk?”“Not yet,” I admitted.“Then what the fuck are you doing in here?” She questioned, clearly confused. Why would the Beta break into the General’s room?“I needed a drink.”“Oh please, you could get that down in the bar—or anywhere else, you didn’t have to break in here!”“Okay, then I came to see you.”“Liam—”“I wanted to know if you’d really fucked Asher.”She looked taken back, almost like she couldn’t believe I’d just asked that question. I already knew the answer
