I sat in the living room of my home. It didn't feel like home anymore. I was so frustrated and annoyed. Night had fallen and Nathan wasn't in sight.

Evie Jones huh? Evie Nathalia Jones. That woman he brought to our home and introduced her as his client. Apparently, she worked at an insurance company.

Well fuck!

Suddenly, the door swung open and Nathan walked in. He had his suitcase in his hand and he placed his keys on the table as our eyes locked.

"Oh hey baby, you're still up." He said as he looked at me.

"Mhm." I hummed in response.

"You don't have to wait up for me. I told you that."

"Oh? Is that so?" I spoke boredly as he walked over to me.

"Yes. I've been working late these days. Did you make dinner?"

"No, I didn't." I replied.

"Huh? I'm starving. That's so unlike you. Were you busy? I guess I'll just make something then."

"I wasn't busy." I stated and he stared at me confused.

"You weren't? Baby is something wrong?" He asked.

"Well, yesterday was a pretty important day for me, for us. It was our anniversary. I prepared your favorite dishes. I bought you gifts and I dressed up for you. Well, what a waste of time huh?"

"Oh fuck baby! I totally forgot about that. Oh my gosh, how can I make it up to you? I'll take you out for dinner right now! Get dressed, let's go I-

"Just stop Nathan. It's not a big deal right? You're busy at work so it must've slipped your mind." I said and a guilty look flashed in his eyes.

"Y-Yeah but baby that's not an excuse. That's not fair to you. You deserve better. I'm so sorry. I'm gonna take a day off tomorrow and we'll spend the entire day together. I promise I'm going to make this up to you." He kissed my fingers and hugged me.

"You're my sweet girl. Never forget that." He kissed my forehead and I almost melted under his touch. Almost.

I remembered that he was cheating. I wanted to expose him but not yet. Not like this. A part of me wanted him to suffer for what he did. Nathan Taylor, buckle the fuck up. You're in for one hell of a ride.

I retired to bed and before I knew it, morning had come.

"Good morning baby. Rise and shine." He grinned.

Ugh, I use to be so crazy in love with that face, now I just wanted to sucker punch the bastard. Don't get me wrong, I love Nathan but it's so hard to look at him the same, knowing what he was doing.

"Good morning Nate." I forced a smile.

"Go get ready baby. I have our full day planned out."

I made my way to the bathroom, showered and brushed my teeth.

Then I got dressed and did my makeup. I wore a black long sleeved crop top with a plunging neckline and I paired it with some low rise jeans. I tied my hair into a high pony tail, added my hoop earrings and necklace. Finally, I wore a black open toe heels.

It's a bit different from how I usually dressed, I'll admit. I use to dress more conservative because I'm married to Nathan. But fuck it!

I stepped out of the room and Nathan was already dressed. He looked fine as usual.

"Damn baby. You look so hot." He said as he pulled me into him and kissed my neck.

"Maybe we should just stay at home." He whispered seductively and I rolled my eyes.

"No, I'd rather go out." I said as I slipped away from him and made my way downstairs.

"Aren't you going to bring a cardigan?" He asked.

"What for?"

"To cover up?"

"Why do I need to cover up?" I tilted my head innocently and he cleared his throat.

"Don't I look good?"

"Yeah you look amazing actually. Let's just go."

We went into the city and had breakfast. It was delicious, I had waffles. The waiter came to give us the bill and he winked at me.

"Excuse me? Eyes over here buddy." Nathan snapped as he took the bill. The waiter scurried off and I suppressed a chuckle.

"Did you see that guy?" The nerve of him!" He growled.

"See what?" I pretended to not know what he was talking about.

"He was checking you out and he winked."

"Oh really? I hadn't noticed."

"You should have worn a cardigan."

"Everyone has eyes Nate, they can look if they want." I said as I touched his hand. "But the issue would arise, if I gave them the attention they were craving right?"

"Y-Yeah." He stuttered.

"And we're married so there's nothing you should worry about. Afterall I'd never cheat on you and you'd never cheat on me, correct?" I stared into his eyes and he looked uncomfortable.

"Ofcourse baby. I love only you." He cracked a smile.

"Great then we don't have anything to worry about then." I grinned.

After breakfast we went to the jewellery store.

"Pick out anything you'd like baby." He said and I nodded.

I picked out a beautiful golden bracelet and Nathan paid for it. Then we walked around the mall and I dragged Nathan into a store that sold baby clothes and other items.

"Sweetheart are you sure you want to come in here-

"Yes, we're gonna be parents very soon I'm sure. So why not soak it in?"

"Alright then." He smiled awkwardly.

I came across a beautiful pink onesie.

"I was thinking about names, if we have a daughter, we should name her Nathalia." I said and he froze.

"Nathalia? Where did you get that name from?"

From the woman you've been fucking cheating on me with!

"Oh I'm not sure but it's a cute name. I like it a lot."

"It's a bit soon to think of names. You're not even pregnant. "

"Yeah, I guess you're right but I just like that name so much." I smiled.

"Hey, why don't we do something fun." He changed the topic.

"Like what?"

" I know you love drawing so we should buy some supplies and draw."

"Yeah we can do that."

After buying the supplies we went to a picnic area and sat down.

I began sketching something. I wasn't sure what it was going to be but I let my mind wander.

And before I knew it, I had sketched a woman and a man kissing each other from a profile view. The woman that Nathan had been cheating on me with.

"What are you sketching baby?" Nate asked as he ate a strawberry.

"Oh, it's just a silly drawing of a man and a woman."

"Us?" He teased and I laughed.

"Let me see it." He leaned over and looked at the drawing.

"Pretty generic right?" I said and he chuckled.

"It looks good. What inspired it?"

"I don't know." I shrugged.

"I like it."

"Yes, I'm sure you do." I forced a smile.

After I finished drawing, I ate some fruits from the fruit basket Nathan bought. We spent the day on hillside then we went rollerblading in the flat.

"I thought maybe we could get some drinks."He suggested and I nodded.

"Sounds good."

Arriving at the bar, we took two seats and Nathan ordered from the bar tender.

Then he went on his phone. I saw his face light up as he typed something on his phone.

I bet he's talking to that Evie again. Ugh.

The drinks arrived and I took a sip of mine. It was gin and tonic.

"Hey babe, I've gotta take a call." He said and I nodded.

He walked outside and went unto the balcony. Some time after I followed him and stayed behind the wall as I listened to his conversation.

"Yes I miss you so much. I can't wait to see you again." He whispered breathlessly. What the fuck?

"You mean the world to me baby." He added.

I've heard enough! I made my way back into the bar and ordered a drink.

"One tequila on the rocks please!" I ordered.

"Coming right up." The bartender smiled and proceeded to make my drink.

"Enjoy!" She said as she placed the drink infront of me.

"Thanks." I said as I gulped down the drink. The burning sensation slid down my throat as I finished the drink.

I wanted to cry, my emotions were out of control but I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself.

Looking up I saw a pole to the left of me. I did feel like dancing. So that's what I was going to do.

I sauntered over to the pole and touched it. Tiffany, my friend, is really good at pole dancing. In fact we took classes together. It was our back up plan in case we flunked med school.

I touched the pole as I heard The Weeknd's song "Earned it" come on.

My hands glided over the pole and my body slowly climbed unto it as threw my head back.

It's been a while but my movements flowed nonetheless. It felt natural. Hands held high, I balanced myself on the pole.

I could feel the stares of people around me. I now had their full attention and it felt good.

My body moved to the beat as I danced. People were whistling as I went upside down on the pole.

I felt so free in this moment as I danced my worries away.

Then it came to a stop when the song was done.

A loud cheer erupted as I finished. I took a bow and laughed. That felt so good.

There Nathan stood looking dumbfounded. He slowly walked up to me, grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the bar.

"What the hell?" I yelped and he released my hand.

"What the hell was that?" He yelled.

"I was dancing." I raised a brow.

"Like some hooker. All those men were entertained and the way they were looking at your body, it was disgusting."

"Well I'm sorry but I was simply enjoying myself. It's just a dance."

"Ugh, what are you trying to do to me Annette?" He groaned as he raked his hand through his hair.

He pulled me close to him and took a deep breath.

"You're mine and I don't like people looking at what's mine." He growled as he placed his hand on my waist.

"That dance was so fucking hot. You should do that for me. Only for me to see." He whispered in my ear. He was pressed up against me and I could feel that he was getting hard.

This would have been sexy if he wasn't cheating on me.

"I'm tired, it's been a long day and I want to sleep."

"It's only a little past six." He chuckled.

"I just wanna sleep."

"Alright, let's go home."

When we arrived home he went straight to the shower while I made a phone call.

"Good afternoon Sheila, I'm so sorry to call you at this hour but can you squeeze me in for an appointment tomorrow?"

Sheila is the owner of the hair salon I always go to.

"Oh yes, let's see uhh," She paused for a moment. "Can you come for nine?" She asked.

"Yes I can. I'm so sorry for the short notice."

"It's no problem sweetie but what do you want to get done tomorrow."

"I want to dye my hair."

"Ahh, that's great! What colour do you have in mind?

"Blonde."

  • How to Keep a Husband   Chapter 50

I found Nathan in the hospital garden, sitting alone with his elbows on his knees, eyes locked on the ground. He looked up when he heard my footsteps. "Annette," he said, standing slowly. His eyes darted to the tiny bundle in my arms. "She's okay," I said softly. "We both are." We stood there for a beat, the tension thick. "Can I…?" He motioned toward the baby. I hesitated. Then, with a quiet breath, I nodded and gently placed her in his arms. Nathan looked down at her, emotion flickering in his eyes. "She’s perfect." "She doesn’t have a name yet," I murmured. He looked up at me. “You’re giving me a chance to be here for her?” “She is your child too.” We stood quietly, the baby letting out a soft coo in his arms. “I never wanted to hurt you,” Nathan said. “What I did… it was selfish. Stupid. Looking at her now I realized what we could have had and I ruined it.” He said bitterly. I nodded. “But we’re past that now.“ “I know. She looks so much like you.” He smiled. “Y

I clutched Alex's hand like a lifeline, my nails digging into his skin as another contraction ripped through me. My breathing came in shallow gasps, and all I could think was—this baby is not waiting. “I can’t—Alex, I can’t do this,” I sobbed, my voice shaking. “Yes, you can. Look at me, baby,” he said, kneeling beside me, brushing the damp strands of hair from my face. “You are the strongest woman I know. Breathe with me.” The beach crowd was thinning as people noticed something was wrong. A few strangers hovered nearby, offering help, but Paige waved them off as she kept me shaded under an umbrella. “Where’s the damn ambulance?” Tiffany growled into the phone. “We’re at Bayview Shore—*yes*, she’s in active labor!” “I don’t think we’re going to make it to the hospital,” Paige whispered, panic flickering in her eyes. “What do you mean we’re not—” I didn’t even finish before another wave of pain hit me, and this time, I screamed. Alex turned ghost-pale. “Baby… do you feel pressu

  • How to Keep a Husband   Chapter 48

Life has been really good to me lately. Alex and I were perfect together. Paige, Tiffany and I went out often and Nathan was respectful whenever we spoke. I couldn’t complain. Days had turned to weeks and before I knew it, I was ready to pop my baby out. Well almost ready. It’s been a long time since I found out I was pregnant and the time had seemed so far since then. I couldn’t wait to meet my baby, to hold him or her and give them the best life that I could. I wanted to wait until I have birth to know the gender. I always wanted children and now I got the opportunity to have my own little bundle of joy. “Hey sexy mama,” Alex greeted as he plopped down on the bed. “Hey baby,” I pecked his lips. “I was thinking that we should have a beach day, today,” I suggested and he raised a brow. “You’re heavily pregnant. I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said and I rolled my eyes. “Firstly, I’m pregnant, not disabled and secondly, the baby is due in a week.” “I really don’

  • How to Keep a Husband   Chapter 47

I knew what I had to do now. I wanted Alex to feel better. I wanted him to know that he could trust me with his feelings and emotions. The morning of the anniversary, I woke up before Alex and collected a bouquet of fresh, beautiful flowers I had ordered. Ruth said that Alex would always buy Brianna pink carnations. Those were her favorite flowers. The night before, I had already prepared a picnic basket. Then I went and added a few more things this morning. When I arrived home, Alex had already taken a shower and was eating the breakfast I had made before I left. “Good morning, Annie,” he said.“Good morning Alex.”“Where did you go?” He asked. “I got these,” I showed him a bouquet of flowers and his eyes widened. “Annie……what are you doing?” He avoided eye contact and dropped his fork. “I’m here with you. I want you to talk to me. This time around is a little tougher but I want to be here for you. Please let me in. It’s not always okay to handle these things alone. Trust me.”

  • How to Keep a Husband   Chapter 46

After everything with Nathan and the drama with Paige and Alex, everything became calm. Alex and I returned to our usual routine of being in love with each other. There was something that was bothering Alex and I keep feeling like we were about to have another issue. I asked him a couple of times but he kept telling me that he was fine. I didn’t buy it. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what the problem was but I needed to find out. I couldn’t keep asking him so I decided to do the next best thing. It was high time I paid his parents a visit. I got into the car and drove over to their home. I knew Alex wasn’t very close to his parents but maybe they knew something. A few moments after knocking on the door, it opened. A woman opened the door, she looked exactly like Alex and immediately I knew it was his mom. “Hi you must be Annette. Please come in.” She smiled. “Hello, it’s nice to meet you.” I greeted. “You’re just glowing with this pregnancy. Congratulations. It’s a shame when mar
