***Julian

Mute?

Fuck how did I miss that? I thought she was just shy. I felt oblivious as I lay on the couch, staring at the open ceiling. Moonlight crept through the windows, dancing along the old wooden panels and my eyes followed up the stairs, leading to the loft. I gave her the bed tonight. Wanted her to be relaxed… at least as much as she could in a strange cabin. Alone with a strange man.

I rubbed the strain, tightening along my shoulders down the back of my neck.

It wasn’t just her. I didn’t know if something... somethings were outside, waiting. Based on the look of her battered body, someone was after her. And soon they would be looking for her. I’d ask her about the scars… those nasty bruises, but not now. By the looks of things, not only was her torment fresh but prolonged. Who knows how long her torture had lasted. She’d been through enough and what she needed was rest, not probing from a stranger or interrogative questions coming from a man she didn’t even know.

Men did this to her. Fingers reached around the loaded double barrel, sitting beside the couch. I huffed in silent fury... issuing a silent promise as I gripped my gun.

So, there were werewolves… people that shifted out in the thick of the forest. Is that what I was only now realizing?

Were there unicorns too? I snickered stupidly to myself.

My thoughts trailed back to her eyes. Those startling lilac eyes. I pictured her face as sleep took hold. An odd sensation rumbled in my chest, a warmth I hadn't felt in a long time.

But I needed to rest, needed to get her out of my head. Morning would soon rise and there was work to do. Couldn't be wasting my time on a woman that would soon be out of my house... and out of my life.

***Fiona

Gilded morning rays streamed through the cabin skylights, and it took me a moment to realize where I was. Then I remembered the hunter.

The loft was simple, neat and cozy, just what I expected from him. I vaguely remembered falling asleep last night. Think I took one look at that bed and I surrendered. Surrendered my body to the plush velvety mattress that cuddled and collapsed around my torso.

The hunter had given me some medicine before I turned in for the night and the ache only dulled slightly while I slept. But now agony was awake and bright eyed, gripping my shoulder with a vengeance. The pain pummeled down my arm and back. I needed more drugs. I knew I said we’d leave by morning, but I didn’t know how far I would get with this useless arm.

“A couple more days then. But that’s it,” Kaia replied in my head. I nodded.

“I’m not afraid of him. He’s not like the others,” she added. The others. My nails scratched the side of my bare legs, the same place where old scabs bore witness to my anxiousness.

“He did shoot us,” I replied. She shrugged.

“Minor inconvenience,” she smirked. I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

“They’ll be looking for us soon,” I said, flatly. I felt her stiffen inside of me, tensing with the fear I, myself, was trying to hold back.

I opened the bandage, tracing my fingers over the stitches that had already begun healing. A smile fell over my face - he did a decent job. I pulled an old sweater over my head, the material brushing softly against my skin. I didn’t like my arms showing or any portion of my back. Didn’t care for the pity that clouded his eyes when he looked at me.

When anyone looked at me.

I peered over the side of the railing, down into the living room. No hunter. I made my way down the stairs to the kitchen; he wasn’t there either. A pinch of panic hitched against my chest. My breath hastened a little. I didn’t like the thought of being alone.

Another thought blurred my vision. What if they were here already, in the woods? What if they found him? And what if he brought them back to me?

Suddenly, a bitter wind blew through the front door as it swung open. A matte of snow covered his face mask and large winter coat. Thick boots tracked in snowy wet residue, slicking along the wooden floor. His gloved hand pulled up from his side, holding two small carcasses.

“Hope you like rabbit,” he grinned, pulling off the mask as his hair ruffled out the sides.

A breath eased in my chest, relaxing my clenched fists. He was ok... no harm at his door. Not yet at least.

***BeatriceA thin little thing walked in, frail, flushing at the cheeks as she stood, hand in hand with Julian. At least the color had returned to her pallor. She was quite beautiful without all of that dirt and grime stuck to her face. No more twigs and dirt caked in her hair. Curls no longer brown and filthy but instead shone the tint of honey and caramel. And those eyes... stunning. I could see why these men fought for her. Killed for her. But Julian, he was a good man. The better man and he deserved love. Her, too. I could see that now, watching the pair. He looked at her with such devotion. And her gaze, as they took in Julian's face, they held pure love and adornment for him."How..." she scribbled, hands shaking as her fingers touched the paper. "How is this possible? Me? Him..." She shot a pointed look to Julian.Yes, both of them should have still been six feet under, just soulless corpses decaying and rotting in my cemetery plot. I watched as each of them scratched and claw

***FionaThe way his hands moved through my hair. It felt like… home. Like lying at the edge of the shore while waves crashed over in gentle strides. The massaging of his fingers was like pure ecstasy. As he lathered lavender onto my scalp, making me forget about my stiffened joints and how badly my throat ached. His knuckles dragged down the nape of my neck, kneading tense muscles down my naked spine.A delicious moan escaped me. Pangs of pleasure that only Julian could draw from my lips.Just hours ago, there was no life in me. I died yesterday. Buried and laid to rest under dirt and decay. That bastard finished what he had always set out to do. To end me. Responsible for taking my last breath. And like the coward he was, knowing he was cornered… finally realizing he was no match against Julian, he made sure to take me with him.But love brought me back. My true mate resurrected me.I think I heard him while I slept… or maybe while I was being reborn. Remade. Julian called to me, pl

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 63: From Darkness

***FionaThe cold embrace of the cellar floor woke me. A film of grime stuck to my cheek, clinging to stale tears. I must have been crying in my sleep again. Seemed fruitless. Those tears of mine that went unseen for years. This overwhelming sadness that I carried with me. Hopelessness was a constant friend here as I curled up alone on the concrete wearing only a thin beige slip, waiting for the inevitable. For whatever horrendous act Greyson had planned for me each day.No one was coming for me. No one here to save me.My body shook, teeth chittering against the bitter cold. Bruises, old and new, painted over my legs and torso with reminders of his petty torments. My knees buckled and I thought of the bastard’s etched words hidden inside my thighs. Goddess, when would this man be done with me?Just let me die and be done with it, a bitter thought danced in my mind.It was so cold tonight, more than the normal winter nights wallowing in the basement. I walked over to the small iron ba

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 62: Panic

***Julian“Beatrice, please!!!!!!!!” I barked, after almost kicking in the cottage door. The old woman tutted, only sparing me an annoyed glance as Fiona’s body draped lifelessly over my arms. When I pulled her bloody body from the floor, I ran like a madman, her body pulled tight to my chest as I raced to my truck parked far from the outskirts of the city. I didn’t care if the pack tried to follow me. After I got her to safety, I’d fight them off, one by one. But no one came for us. They had a dead alpha and a new leader to appoint not to mention a pissed off Gileon pack still in the center.I only hoped whoever came into power would be better than the last asshole. Somehow, a peace fell over me with the thought of the twins. Fiona trusted them, having told me all about them, the scheming and sly pair they were. They would handle Grey City.“Please! Can you help her?” I urged, the towel pressed to Fiona’s neck now fully soaked in ominous red ruin. The witch only waddled slowly throug

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 61: Retaliation

***Greyson“What the fuck?” The words sat like stones in the hollow of my throat. That was not the man I killed weeks ago, slit from ear to ear, watching as a ribbon of red leached into a pool of thick warm blood. Fiona gave a guttural scream as her hands frantically tried to press life back into the wound. And I had smiled, smirked even, as I watched the light leave his eyes.I looked around. Archer poised to Fiona's left, glowing with absolute delight as the enemy pack crept slowly behind my warriors. Milo stood smug, eyebrows raised with that irritating face of his, Angus Crow. Angus, the leader of Gileon pack, glowered, arms crossed at his chest. The man had been waiting years for vengeance but could do nothing due to the pack truce. He knew I had killed his daughter yet couldn't prove it.Fuckers... all of them. Those that awaited my demise. But the monster in front of me. He was a distorted creation of the dead man I watched die with vengeful glee. Huge. Larger than the mortal h

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 60: Vengeance

***FionaThe air turned sour, night stifling to a bitter brine. I felt a roar of anger tremor down my spine, a wave of wrath rushing towards me. But I was ready. I had been steadying myself for this war against Greyson for ages. He had only hours to plan and stew in his vengeance.Me… I had years.I stood, centered at the doors of Carter Mansion with Archer to my left and Milo to my right. The rest of the city gathered below. Waiting. Strangled murmurs blanketed the sculpted lawns as snarls and sneers gathered, charging towards us. Greyson led with a hundred Gammas at his back. The crowd parted like a silent tide as rage and wrath burned in his eyes. He stalked closer, face lethal… vicious as death slit eyes set on me. No wolf as he shifted back, taut muscles rippling over sweat beaded skin. A body I once thought alluring and magnificent. Not anymore.Greyson roared.I smirked; I enjoyed playing with my food before I devoured it.This man had branded me, mutilated me, manipulated me…
