1~ABIGAIL

Taylor's swift voice singing to 'Welcome to New York' blared from my headphones as I stood in front of the University, New York University! I finally made it! The school of my dreams! I've waited so long to get my application from NYU, it was so bad I'd wake up around midnight to check my email and see if I had gotten an admission letter. After waiting for weeks, I later saw that I had been accepted to study literary studies in NYU much to my parents happiness and now I'm finally here.

I wheeled my suitcase to my apartment in St George Clark hall. I met a couple of first year students like me in the hallway. Some of them smiled at me and I returned it, others focused on moving their stuff into their apartment and some even came with their parents. I smiled wistfully at a student whose mom was fussing over and asking if she packed some extra blankets because of the cold. I wished my parents too could have followed me but the flight expenses and all.

Shaking my head out of wistful thoughts, I used my key card to get into my apartment. It was beautiful. I smiled as I entered the apartment. It had a couch and a television. It also had a refrigerator and a microwave and there were two rooms. I walked towards one of the rooms and pushed it open. It had a single bed in it, a reading table and a chair, it also had a wardrobe and there was a window that gave me a great view of the city, it was perfect!

I dropped my suitcase on the bed and walked back to the living room to look around at the apartment. I was about to check the second room when I heard the beep of the door. A black girl with long twisted locs entered the room carrying several suitcases and she was on the phone. I take it she was my roommate.

"I swear to God Sasha, you stay out of my room or so help your black ass!" She yelled at whoever was on the phone, "And no! You can't fucking have my Coachella sweatshirt!"

While she yelled I took my time to study her. She was actually very pretty. She was dressed in a black cropped hoodie and blue jeans with a pair of white and black Nike. I was still looking at her when I finally noticed she was staring at me.

"Hey Sasha, I gotta go, my roommate eyeing me like I'm crazy right now" She said eyeing me warily, "Yeah yeah, whatever bye bye love you, take care of momma and stay the fuck away from my room or loulou's gonna get stitches, I promise ya!" She said and I just stood there looking at her with a smile.

She let out a sigh as she hung up and put her phone in her back pocket, "I'm so sorry, that was brat of a sister Sasha the only way to get her to back up is when I threaten her teddy bear, lolou" She explained.

Ah! so that's who loulou is, I muse as I looked at the girl who was still talking. "She thinks now that I'm in Uni it's cool of her to take ownership of all my stuff back home, like hello I'm three thousand miles away not dead!"

I laughed at her joke and automatically decided I like her, "I'm Abigail, Abigail Howard."

"Carlacia Anderson" She introduced herself as she took my outstretched hands, "So big apple huh? Man, I'm so excited!"

"Me too! I've waited my whole life for this" I sighed looking around the apartment.

Carlacia turned to look at me with a smile, "Well, same here."

I smiled at Carlacia who grinned at me then she suddenly cocked her head at me.

"Yo is that Taylor's welcome to New York?" She pointed at my headphones.

"Oh shit, it's still on" I cursed as I removed the earphones around my neck and brought out my phone to pause the music, "I'll just switch it off."

"No, no, no" Carlacia rushed out stopping me, "I mean are you kidding me? Taylor's welcoming us to New York so who are we not to dance to it?" She asked rotating her shoulders in a little dance.

I let out a laugh looking at Carlacia who was already connecting my phone to the speaker, "I don't know about that Carlacia."

"You hear that Abby? It's been waiting for you! It's been waiting for us!" Carlacia shouted dancing around the living room, "Come on!" Before I knew it Carlacia pulled me in and together we started dancing and singing loudly along with Taylor.

Carlacia opened the door to our apartment and I saw some students were also vibing to our music in the hallway. Everyone all joined in on our singing, we danced and sang so loud the residence security had to come break up our mini party. I laughed a little and the crowd clapped for us, cheering us. Carlacia and I did a little curtsy and we went back to our apartment shutting the door.

"And now, New York has welcomed us" Carlacia flopped down on the couch breathing heavily.

I plopped next to her, leaning against it, "You are crazy you know that?"

Carlacia turned to look at me a hard look on her face, "What? You think I'm too loud? Too ratchet? Is that it?"

Shit! I cursed as I look at Carlacia who seemed offended, "Look I don't mean it that way, I just meant crazy like in a good way not in an offensive way...shit, I'm sorry, I..."

I was about to launch into an apology when Carlacia busted out laughing all of a sudden. I stopped talking to look at her and she didn't seemed angry at all.

"Oh my God, you should see your face" Carlacia laughed at that, "You were all I didn't mean that, Shit I'm sorry" Carlacia mocked me and I rolled my eyes at that.

"What the hell Carla?" I shot her a look while she just laughed at me, "Oh shut it" I said laughing as I threw a pillow at her which she waved off.

"I think we are going to get along just fine Abby."

"Yeah, me too Carla" I smiled at her and she grinned at me in response.

"So, which room is yours?" She asked looking between the two rooms and I pointed to the one opposite mine.

Together we carried her bags to her room and we unpacked together. When unpacking we talked and I found out she was studying dramatic arts and she was taking English as a minor course, she wants to become a director of her own movie which I think it's pretty cool. I informed her of my own course and I told her I wanted to become an author and I laughed when she teased me about becoming the next Nicole Snow or Anna Todd.

"I don't think I can ever come close to being them" I shook my head at her with a small smile.

Carlacia scoffed at that, "Well you are not the one who's going to be the judge of that."

I smiled at her and continued folding her clothes, putting them inside her wardrobe.

"So uh?" Carlacia started and I looked up at her, "You written any book yet?"

I shook my head at her. "No, I haven't" I told her, "Though I'm about to start working on one."

"Oh yeah? What's the title?"

I bit my lip at that, "Well, I...I haven't figured it out, yet" I confessed looking up at Carlacia who arched a brow up at that.

"Uh, I see, but you do have an idea of what's it going to be about, right?"

"Yeah, yeah of course" I said tucking my hair behind my ears, "It's romance."

Carlacia smiled at me, "Course it is, everyone loves a good ol' romance."

"I just want it to be perfect you know" I sighed and Carlacia sat down next to me, "I want everything to be perfect, the characters, the romance, everything Carla."

Carlacia smiled at me, "Yeah I know and it will be, you just got to find something inspirational and luckily for us, we in New York baby!" She squealed and I grinned at that.

"Lots of places to see to get some inspiration for your book and don't let me get started on the boyysss" Carlacia said in a singsong voice.

I rolled my eyes, "Alright, settle down now."

Carlacia laughed at me then she pulled me in for a one sided hug, "Don't worry Abby, we'll be fine, everything's going to work out for us."

"Think so?" I asked looking up at her.

Carlacia looked down at me, "Yeah, we will."

I hope so Carlacia! I said to myself as I wrapped my hands around my new found best friend and together we watched the sunset in the city from our window.
