Chapter 2

My sleep was interrupted when I felt something squirming under my head. I tried to turn and find a more comfortable position but I winced when I felt the pain on my shoulder.

I opened my eyes and looked around then I realized that I'm already inside my room. Suddenly a furry creature start licking my face.

"Oh my! You're still here?" I can't believe this guy is sharing the same room with me. The more shocking is that he actually let me lie on him.

Did the sun start to rise from the west?

I push myself up using my left hand as a support to get up. My right shoulder was already bound by a temporary splint that I guess my dad made.

Leo move closer and put his head down on my lap.

"Thanks for calling dad." I said even though I know that he doesn't understand.

I bet he howled nonstop to call for help. He looks tired so I let him rest on my lap for a while.

"I take back what I said earlier about how annoying you sound. You're... kinda reliable this time." I patted his head and stroke his soft fur.

I think he likes it because he sounded satisfied when he gave off a deep "brrr!".

I continued touching him and look at his jet black fur. I was the first time today that he let me pet him. Dad was the one who handles their bath time and this one always avoids me so I didn't get the chance until today.

He turned his body and lied on his back while I was scratching him.

"You're like a puppy!" I teased then started scratching his tummy. He growled in protest. I feel like he kinda understand what I said since he's enjoying himself having a free scratch.

I notice the white spot on his chest like a crescent shape. I instinctively tough it and trace it with my fingers. He lick my hand while his arms are both raised like a kangaroo.

"You're quite touchy today, little Leo. Are you growing fond of this big sister now?"

I was laughing with the thought. The guy continue licking my hands while his tail wiggles.

I immediately pulled away when I realized something.

"You're not thinking of eating my hands, right?" I shrieked.

It's already late in the evening and this guy haven't had his milk. He can't be imagining my hand to be his dinner, no?

He came closer and started rubbing his face on my legs or should I say lap.

"Yeah, I know. You're still a milk baby. Right, big sister sorry. You're not a carnivore." I laugh hard when he turn to look at me like weirdly.

I fake a cough to regain my composure. Then I suddenly thought of the other three. I haven't given them their milk, it's already dark.

At the same time, a voice calling my name was heard outside the cabin.

I immediately sat up and strode off. I look at the window glass to see who's by the door and saw Eleonor with a piping hot pot in her hand.

I hurriedly opened the door and let her in. Behind her was my three adorable wolf cubs following her to the kitchen. Leo also followed suit and circled around her.

They love her. Hector said those wolf cubs are actually hers but after losing her husband she couldn't raise them. So Hector decided to raise them in his sister stead.

Eleonor is so pretty. She looks young compared to her age. Like someone who looks in her early 30s even though she's already in her late 40s. I smiled looking at her. I bet if she had children they would be so attractive. I would date him if it's a guy. I couldn't help but grin while thinking about something ridiculous.

"My brother told me about what happened so I decided to cook for dinner. Does it still hurt?" she looked worried.

Yes, it hurts so bad! It's so painful moving a muscle.

I wanna tell her how I feel but I just fake a smile and assured her that it was fine. I don't want her to get stressed worrying about me.

She served us our food, well, milk for the wolf cubs.

We ate together because Hector will probably be out until sunrise hunting for game. After our meal Eleonor bid farewell. I wanted to keep her with me for another hour because I'm quite bored by myself inside the cabin but she refused. She said she has an important matter to attend.

She strictly told me to stay home and rest early to recuperate and took the cubs away with her. She volunteered to take them into the shed so that I don't get tired. I could only agree even though I want to play with my babies.

I took a quick hot bath before going to bed. I smell like Leo with all the rubbing and licking he did.

I smiled while remembering that little guy. It was good that he started to open up with me. Ah, he's so soft and cuddly! I really like soft and fluffy things since I was little. Sadly, the village we're in is so far from the commercial places. I couldn't buy stuffed toys. The few stuffed toys I had when I was a kid were left behind so I can only appreciate my babies and cuddle with them.

Before laying down, I changed the pillows and beddings because Leo fur might have stick on them. I don't want it to get stick to me and end up scratching myself because of itch.

I tried to sleep early.

I closed my eyes.

But I couldn't sleep a wink!

"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath when I accidentally put my weight on my injured shoulder after turning back and forth on my bed.

I tried counting sheeps since i heard it was effective but no!

After counting a couple of few hundreds I'm still wide awake!

I was contemplating on what to do when I felt a cold breeze which made me shiver. I realized the window was open.

I stood up to close it but my hands halted when I saw the moon. I was instantly mesmerize by its beauty. Like a soft ball of light that emits a soothing radiance. I like how it felt so mysterious and surreal. It gave me a calming feeling. It's like a big orb plastered on the night sky. On its center, the craters of the moon looked like a howling wolf if one look at it from below.

I smiled and remember my four boys. That night I closed my eyes and made a wish on the full moon.

I hope that the wolf cubs will always be healthy and grow up bigger and stronger. So they can live and enter a pack without getting hurt when they go back to the wilds.

Yeah, I won't let Hector eat them! I will surely free them when they grow into adults.

That night I never knew the moon Goddess would listen to my wishes. I don't even know if its due to her benevolence or is it malevolence instead. I just know that if I could take it back my wish, I would do it in a heartbeat!
