“Did I keep you waiting?” Her calm mellifluous voice came from behind, prompting him to veer around to be sure it was her. He couldn't conclude when she never returned his call. He was damn worried, thinking that he had said what he wasn't supposed to say last night.

Although part of him regretted how he ended things abruptly with her he was aware of her feelings. He wouldn't have told her about his wife yesterday if he knew today was her birthday.

“It hasn't been long since I got here. Thanks for coming.”

“About the text, I didn't reply since I was going to come, I thought it was not necessary. I'm sorry if you're upset.” She apologized while getting close to him. Now that they were standing next to each other around the poolside, she began to feel awkward.

“No, I'm not upset. What matters now is you're here. Happy birthday, Gwen. I hope you had a lovely day.”
