Years of affection and devotion just like that, tossed away like garbage in the blink of an eye.
I wanted to cry, to scream, to chase behind the van as fast as I could so that I could interrogate them and ask why ,why would they abandon me?
It’s not about love anymore. It’s hate. Because I don’t even hate anyone enough to abandon them, knowing they’d probably be killed by zombies. No one, until now.
I got up from the road in tears, looking around for any kind of help.
“Does anyone have a weapon?” I yelled finally, swallowing hard as my eyes moved from house to house.
“Even if we have, why would we waste ammo on saving your weak ass?” one of the women yelled from her house
The screams are getting louder. The zombies are closing in.
I knew the pack would soon be overrun with zombies.
If I stayed, I would either become their prey or turn into one of them.
So running away was my only option.
With all the strength in my body, I sprinted for my life.
"Run and hide! That’s all you can do, loser!" a woman shouted behind me.
I ran and ran, telling myself not to listen to them. My dress was torn by the branches passing by in the forest. The delicate lace doesn’t survive in the wild. The dress was more like ripped rags now. But I don’t have the time to stop running.
Once I left the pack, the danger around me became clear.
The world I knew had changed.
Bodies were scattered everywhere.
When I reached the edge of the woods, I noticed something lying near a large tree.
It looked like a military uniform, with a bag resting beside it.
I scanned the area, checking if the owner was nearby.
"Hello?" I called out softly, careful not to draw too much attention.
Every time I heard groaning or grunting nearby, I hid or changed direction.
I waited a few more minutes, but no one came.
I took a steady breath and picked up the uniform.
It belonged to a female warrior.
I frowned at the sight of blood staining the fabric.
It made me wonder if she was dead.
I did not have time to dwell on it.
I slipped into the khaki uniform, and despite all the expensive dresses and gowns I had worn during my two years as an Alpha’s mate, this fit me perfectly.
I grabbed the bag, but before I could unzip it, a vehicle appeared in the distance.
I moved to hide behind the tree at first, then stopped when I realized it was not just any car.
It was a military bus.
The same military I now wore the uniform of.
I rushed to the road and waved my hands at it.
Groans echoed from the woods, and sweat formed along my temples.
The vehicle slowed, and I ran toward the door.
They must have recognized the uniform because they opened it immediately.
A man stepped forward and took my hand while another grabbed my bag, pulling me inside.
The minute I was pulled inside the vehicle, it sped off almost instantly.
The moment I stumbled in, my breath caught.
The man holding my hand was tall and strikingly handsome, with piercing grey eyes unlike any I had seen.
"Welcome onboard, teammate," he said, his voice smooth and strong.
What caught me off guard even more was that there were four of them, all equally handsome, all in uniform.
"Have a seat. You must be tired, fighting zombies and surviving the whole day on your own," the soldier said, his deep voice smooth and full of assurance.
He knew exactly how good-looking he was.
I had never known anyone except Nathan, so seeing four tall, striking, uniformed officers in one place made my heart race uncontrollably.
"Thank you," I murmured, settling into the front seat as my gaze moved over the three soldiers behind me.
The brown curly brown haired hunk rested his hand on the back of my seat, the other on his vest, leaning slightly forward with his eyes locked on me.
Another leaned against the window across from me, arms folded, watching quietly.
The last sat at the very back, distant, as if nothing here concerned him.
His gaze flicked toward me briefly, and my back straightened on instinct.
"How were you left behind near the woods?" the man in front of me asked.
The others stayed quiet, watching without interruption.
"My team left me behind," I uttered.
The memory came back sharply, how my in-laws had abandoned me without hesitation.
"We’re never trained to leave anyone behind,"
The one leaning casually against the window added under his breath.
I glanced at him briefly before returning my attention to the man in front.
"Hi, I am Military Alpha Rome," he introduced himself politely. There’s a cigar between his fingers, still smoking. It’s so difficult to get decent food nowadays, even Nathan has to settle for stale bread. Who has the luxury to smoke a cigar?
His eyes caught my attention first, a striking green that stood out.
His dark, polished hair framed his face, drawing attention to his thick brows, which made his eyes even more striking.
There was something in them. His eyes seemed to smile when he spoke.
"I’m Military Alpha Miguel," the one resting his hand on my seat said.
He had broad shoulders, curly brown hair, hazel eyes, a sharp jawline, and freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks.
Tattoos ran along his neck and arms, visible beneath his rolled sleeves.
He was just as tall and striking as the others.
"I’m Military Alpha Cage," the blonde one added.
He pushed away from the window and unfolded his arms.
His long, metallic blonde hair fell in a messy wolf cut around his face, brushing his neck.
His eyes stood out, they were the most charming gray ever.
Tall with a slim waist, he carried himself with quiet confidence. I could tell he had abs.
It was as if they were waiting for the last one to speak.
The tanned one at the back rolled his eyes.
His blue eyes held a faint gray pattern that caught the light. Each time the traffic signal flickered across his face, they gleamed like crystals.
His black hair was messily resting on his forehead.
He looked tall, his broad shoulders and muscular arms giving him a solid presence. Sharp cheekbones defined his face, and his lips were slightly fuller.
The way he glanced at me, then looked away, made it clear he wasn’t welcoming.
His gaze reminded me of a hawk watching its prey.
"Ace," he said at last, turning from the window toward me.
"I’m Alpha Ace," he added quietly, leaving out the military tag.
"We each have two soldiers working with us, and we’re heading to the academy center to pick them up," Rome voiced, drawing the attention back to himself.
Oh wait, I recognized them.
The descendants of the Alpha Kings, the most powerful rulers of the South, North, West, and East.
That explains the Cigar luxury.
Privilege followed them everywhere.
No wonder they each have two soldiers, I bet they don’t need to face real danger, I thought begrudgingly.
Only then did it hit me. They hadn’t even asked my name.
It was better this way.
Now that I was on a military bus surrounded by Alphas, I understood the risk.
They would know every soldier. One wrong name, and I’d be exposed.
I couldn’t tell them the truth either.
I’m wolfless. It makes me almost disabled by the standards of other werewolves.
No one really took me seriously even when I was a Luna.
Too many times when I try to stop an omega being beaten by higher ranks, the gammas or beta just said, “It’s the law of the pack” or “Alpha Nathan consent this, maybe you should ask him.”
Not to mention I was abandoned by my so-called family for death.
I can’t risk being abandoned by another van.
So I stayed quiet.
Their attention lingered anyway.
The bus was large, but their presence filled it completely.
I had never been watched like that before, by men like them, strong and so handsome.
It was overwhelming.
Then Rome’s radio buzzed, and for the first time, the pressure eased as their focus shifted away from me.
"Yeah, listening," he replied, lifting the radio in his veined hand.
His fingers were lean, wide, almost bony.
"The situation is getting worse. Where are you?" a woman’s voice came through all the tension.
"We found another soldier next to the woods. We’re heading back to base with her," Rome replied, moving past me toward the others.
They gathered at the back of the bus.
That gave me a moment.
I unzipped the bag quickly, searching for anything that could help me understand the uniform I was wearing.
The first thing I found was a wristband, sleek, with a small screen.
I glanced back. All of them were wearing one.
Mine was purple.
I slipped it onto my wrist without thinking.
The second it locked, a faint click followed.
For a moment, I thought it had fused into my skin.
I ignored it and kept searching until I found an ID card.
The moment I opened it, relief hit me.
The soldier whose uniform I was wearing was an invisible officer.
They operated in isolation, stationed in remote centers, never seen.
Communication only through radios or earpieces.
Which meant there was a strong chance none of them had ever seen her.
And judging by the file, she wasn’t just any officer.
She was high-ranking.
I gathered as much information as I could, then settled back into my seat with a small, confident smile.
Rome ended the call and started walking toward me.
Their attention returned instantly.
Even Ace from the back seat moved in, as they closed the space around me.
"So, you didn’t tell us your name," Miguel brought up, gently touching the scar on his chin.
I noticed his tone as he leaned in slightly from behind, smirking, trying to hold my gaze longer.
"Um, I am Freya Benson. Invisible military officer. I am from Isolation Center Two," I introduced myself confidently.
I knew enough.
Nathan had talked about them often. Studied them.
He had always been jealous.
He and his brother thought they were better, but when they tried to enter the academy, they were rejected.
That rejection had turned into hatred.
When I introduced myself, I expected some reaction.
I expected them to be shocked to finally meet the invisible officer, the one who had helped them through difficult situations.
Indeed, there’s shock. They stared at me for seconds, but no words came out. But why the hell did they not look welcome anymore?
They exchanged glances before looking back at me.
I have a strange feeling that perhaps I wasn’t lucky to find this uniform.
Suddenly, Cage shot up and stared at me, as if his staring can shoot me on sight. "This is that bitch Freya," he grunted.
His words made the hair on the back of my neck stand.
"Yeah, damn right she is," Rome added, pointing at the band on my wrist.
"What?" I pushed myself up, trying to step back as they circled in, closing around me like predators.
"How dare you show yourself here?" Ace demanded, like this was personal.
The way he moved toward me, one hand on the gun at his belt, I already sensed trouble.
Priya:Nathan had had enough. He went up to Fallon and demanded to know where his brother was.I'm not sure if he was ready to listen to what his brother had done or if he would even care.Knowing Nathan, he wouldn't.He would try to defend his brother anyway and not believe what Fallon had to say.But then my own devil showed up.He called my name, and when I turned to look at him, I found him staring at me with these googly eyes I'd never seen from him before.I had only ever seen him look at his new Luna like that."Priya," he said with a smile.I immediately got up from the couch, with Fallon getting up after me, making Nathan step away from us."My wife, my mate," Liam uttered with nothing but love in his voice as he clutched his chest. "I have been so worried about you."His voice cracked, causing me to look back at Fallon in confusion. When had he ever expressed this much love and longing for me?Never. So why was he doing it now?"My baby," he continued as he started to rush t
Liam:After everything that happened and the way his mother died, I was afraid that once he stopped being a douchebag and his brain started working again, he would accuse me of jumping first and not helping his mother on board. So I had to bring his attention to something else.Something that would keep him occupied with none other than Fallon. And I did. I did a great job.I approached him in the garden. He was sitting on a bench, crying with his face in his hands, while his sister and his second mate sat next to him."You cannot just sit here and cry like that," I said. Both women looked up at me."Did you not hear what happened to my mother?" Lydia questioned. Then she tilted her head and clenched her jaw."Of course you know, because you were there, and you survived while she didn't."Just as expected, the family was so fucking toxic. They had already started accusing me. That's what I was afraid of."If you guys would listen to me, you would be more focus on someone else right no
Fallon:The atmosphere was so fucking weird. What happened there had genuinely left me shocked.I'd always known Nathan was a self-centered and selfish person. I also knew he was a fucking coward. What I hadn't realized was that there wasn't a single person in his life he would genuinely be willing to do something for.The way he'd abandoned even his own mother proved that there was no hope for that man.He wasn't loyal to anyone. And then the nerve he had to accuse me.That had genuinely stunned me.As soon as we arrived, I met up with Cage and Miguel, who had been anxiously waiting by the gate. They followed our bus, and the moment it stopped, Nathan was the first one out, starting his act.He hadn't helped his mother when she needed him, yet now he was sitting there crying over her.I mean, I'd already seen Dahlia and Lydia come outside, so we decided to go in.Once inside, we had to report everything that had happened to the Alpha Kings. Ace and Rome took care of that while I sat
Nathan:Just like that, in the flick of a finger, I'd lost my mother. She had been sitting there, looking at me, and I couldn't help her because of Fallon. It was because of Fallon's presence that my mother couldn't jump properly. She'd gotten too consumed by her hatred and anger.Because, well, if Fallon had been with Welsh, then he should've been with us too. He should've been at the shelter. And it wasn't a secret that my mother had never liked Fallon's behavior.Fallon was full of shit. And Fallon knew that too.I screamed and cried, but, well, that shameless woman didn't seem bothered at all. Finally, as I began to calm down, Liam scoffed."She turned out to be such a slut. I saw her last time," Liam remarked, giving me a little more information about what had happened before.I turned toward him, listening as he continued."She was there with that one," he explained, pointing toward Ace. "Yeah, that one. The one with the blue-gray eyes and black hair."He kept pointing at Ace, m
Fallon:Just as expected, the minute Lady Wilma spotted me on the bus, she began screaming at me.She even demanded that her son kick me out, as if this were his bus.I was in disbelief. We had to take another round, and by then, we'd caught the attention of so many zombies that it would've been a miracle if we got out without any more trouble.Well, just like I said, any more trouble. It wasn't going to be easy. The minute Lady Wilma jumped, she was so consumed with anger that she misstepped. She went down right in front of us, breaking her leg.The zombies had already started gathering by then.We only had a few seconds to wait for someone to jump onto the bus, but now she'd been lying on the ground for more than five seconds.Part of me initially thought about helping her, but then I realized Nathan had done exactly what I would've done. He'd guided his mother the right way.We wouldn't have used a different tone or given her different instructions, so it wouldn't have made any dif
Nathan:Well, the moment Liam saw them, he started gritting his teeth. But we didn't have time for that because Ali had already turned the car back toward my mother. As we approached her, the car began slowing down again."Why are we slowing down?" Liam blurted out.I turned toward him, staring at him in shock."All right, your mother is there," he added.I mean, that was pretty insensitive of him.But I guess he was scared too, like the rest of us."Okay. We have to help my mother get on top of the bus now," I told Liam because the others clearly weren't going to help.I guess Liam was confused because he glanced at the others."It's a long story. They're acting like a bunch of bullies," I explained, gently tapping him with the back of my hand before shifting toward the window."Mother, you have to jump on top of the bus," I called out.At this point, we'd made enough rounds around the area and enough noise for the zombies to start coming after us.The only good thing was that whenev
Fallon:Flashback:I sat on the floor beside the bed, curled into myself with my arms wrapped tightly around my body.My stare remained locked on the ground, as if my dignity had been left there with the rest of me.“Don’t make such a big deal out of it.”Nathan stepped out of the bathroom with a to
Fallon:The instant it lunged at me, I stumbled back and slammed my foot against the door. The heavy door crashed into its face and knocked it backward.I did not waste the opportunity.I rushed inside with the piece of broken glass in my hand. The room was too cramped for a proper fight.Every move
Fallon:I slowly pushed myself off the road and brushed the dirt from my clothes, scanning my surroundings with panic building inside me.I didn’t know if the world had always been this terrifying.Maybe I had just never noticed it before. Back when my biggest concern was surviving another day as a
Fallon:“I’m not going down there,” I shot back before any of them could try talking me into it.All four of them mirrored each other, planting their hands on their waists as they lined up in front of me.Men, especially, always went after weakness the moment they sensed it.Cage lifted a brow, look
