ログインSerena’s POV
The silence in the courtyard was heavy, thick enough to choke on. My father looked as if he might faint. His eyes darted frantically between the Lycan King and me. His face was a mask of pure terror. Alaric remained perfectly still. His eyes scanned me with a cold detached indifference that made my skin prickle.
"Grey," Alaric said. His voice was deep and smooth like a stone rolling over gravel. He did not take his eyes off me. "I was not aware that your servants were permitted to stand in the driveway during a royal inspection. Have your help cleared away at once."
I felt a surge of hot bitter anger. I stepped forward. My boots crunched loudly on the gravel. "I am not a servant," I said. My voice was sharp and clear, cutting through the tense air of the courtyard.
Alaric finally shifted his gaze slightly. One dark eyebrow arched in surprise. "No?" he asked. His tone was mocking. "Then you must be the most daring housemaid in the history of Hollow Fall to interrupt a King’s arrival. What exactly is your purpose here?"
"My purpose is my own business," I retorted, holding his gaze without flinching. "And I do not recall asking for your permission to stand on my own father’s land."
A collective gasp rippled through the gathered pack members. I could feel my father’s trembling rage behind me but I did not care. The tension between Alaric and me was electric, a sudden violent spark that felt like lightning trapped in a bottle.
Alaric tilted his head. His lips curled into a slow dangerous smile that did not reach his eyes. "Bold words for someone who looks as though they have been hiding in the shadows of this estate for quite some time. You have a fire in your eyes that is quite rare in a pack this small and this quiet."
"You do not know anything about this pack," I snapped back. My hands trembled slightly at my sides. "And you certainly do not know me."
"Then enlighten me," he said, turning his back on me to look at my father. His posture was relaxed yet every muscle in his body was coiled and ready to strike. He gestured toward me with a casual flick of his hand. "Grey, tell me. Who is this girl and why is she so eager to test my patience?"
My father stepped forward. His feet dragged. He looked at me. His eyes were wide with a mixture of hatred and desperate fear. He knew that if he told the truth about Caden the ledger and his own treason he would be dead before the sun went down. But he also knew that if he lied I might just be the one to reveal his secrets right here in front of the King.
"She is..." my father started. His voice cracked. He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. His face was pale and strained. "She is my daughter, my King. Serena. She has been unwell. She is suffering from a recent and quite severe break from reality and I am afraid she does not know who she is speaking to."
I froze. He was calling me crazy. He was trying to discredit me before I could even open my mouth to speak.
I looked at Alaric waiting for him to mock me to laugh or to wave me away as nothing more than a madwoman. But he did not. His expression had shifted. The initial amusement vanished entirely. He looked at me again. His eyes were dark, unreadable and intensely focused.
He did not look at me like I was insane. He looked at me like I was a puzzle he had just started to solve.
"Interesting," Alaric said slowly. His voice carried power that demanded attention. "A daughter who suffers from a break from reality yet she speaks with such clarity and defiance. Grey, you expect me to believe that?"
My father bowed lower. "My King, she has been through much. Her mating in Thornblood ended badly. She returned disgraced and confused. Please do not let her disrupt your important inspection."
"Disgraced?" I interrupted. My voice rose clear and strong. "I returned with evidence of treason and financial crimes that could destroy entire packs. Father wants me silent because the truth threatens him."
Alaric turned back toward me. His gaze locked onto mine once more. "Evidence you say? Bold claim. What proof do you carry that makes your father tremble so visibly?"
I reached into my hidden pocket and pulled out a carefully folded page from the ledger. "This shows part of the trail. Debts. Secret arrangements. Ties that should not exist. There is more if you allow a proper investigation, Your Majesty."
Alaric took the paper. His fingers brushed mine, sending an unexpected jolt through my body. He studied it for a long moment. The courtyard remained deathly silent. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
"Grey," Alaric said without looking up. "These numbers are troubling. Explain yourself."
My father stammered. "My King, those are fabrications. Serena is unstable. She would say anything to ruin me after her failures."
"Unstable?" Alaric repeated. He handed the page back to me. "She does not appear unstable to me. In fact she seems more clear headed than most Alphas I have met. Serena, tell me more about these ties you mentioned. Who else is involved?"
I took a steadying breath. "Caden of Thornblood for one. Embezzlement, rogue alliances and more. My father’s gambling has left Hollow Fall vulnerable. If you inspect deeper you will see the pattern."
Penelope stepped forward slightly. Her voice was quiet but brave. "It is true Your Majesty. Father plans to sell me to settle his debts. A cruel match with no regard for my life."
Alaric’s eyes narrowed. "Sell his own daughter? That is a serious accusation. Grey is this true?"
My father’s face flushed red. "Lies! All of it! Penelope is promised in a beneficial alliance for the pack. Serena is poisoning her mind."
"Enough," Alaric commanded. His tone left no room for argument. "I will conduct the inspection as planned. Serena and Penelope you will remain available for further questioning. Grey, you will provide full access to your records. Any interference and I will assume guilt."
My father looked ready to collapse but he nodded weakly. "As you wish my King."
As Alaric moved toward the great hall I fell into step behind him with Penelope close by. The King’s presence was overwhelming. Power radiated from him like heat from a forge. Yet beneath the cold exterior I sensed something more. Curiosity. Recognition.
"You took a great risk speaking out today," Alaric said quietly as we walked. His voice was meant for my ears alone. "Most would have stayed hidden. Why?"
"Because hiding has only brought me pain," I answered honestly. "I was a placeholder in Thornblood. I refuse to be one here. My sister deserves better. This pack deserves better."
Alaric glanced at me. A faint hint of approval touched his expression. "We shall see if your courage matches your claims. Do not disappoint me Serena."
"I will not," I promised.
The inspection began with my father sweating through every explanation. I stood ready answering questions when asked. Each word I spoke chipped away at my father’s carefully built facade. Penelope stayed strong beside me drawing courage from our shared resolve.
For the first time in years I felt seen. Not as a pawn or a burden but as someone with power. Alaric’s gaze returned to me often. In those moments the air between us crackled with unspoken tension. He saw through the lies. He saw me.
Whatever happened next I was no longer alone. The King had arrived and with him came the first real chance at justice. My father’s reign of secrets was ending. And I would be there to watch it fall.
Serena’s POVAfter the confrontation in the great hall I could not sit still. Caden’s words still burned in my ears. His public attempt to break me had only strengthened my resolve. I would not let Penelope suffer the same fate I had endured. I would find leverage to save her myself even if it meant risking everything inside my father’s own home.I paced the narrow corridor outside my chamber. Penelope slept uneasily in the room behind me. Her future hung by a thread and I refused to let my father cut it.Gale appeared from the shadows. His footsteps were silent as always. "My lady the King has retired for the night but tensions remain high. Caden and Liliana have been given guest quarters. They are watching everything."I nodded. "Good. Let them watch. I am done hiding Gale. I need to find something concrete. Something that forces my father’s hand before he can sell Penelope off."Gale glanced down the hall. "I have heard rumors from the servants. Hidden documents in Alpha Grey’s pri
Serena’s POVThe great hall buzzed with tension as the morning session of the inspection continued. I stood near the back with Penelope trying to remain invisible while Alaric questioned my father about tribute records. Every word Grey spoke felt like a lie wrapped in silk. I kept my head high but my heart raced. The pages from the ledger burned in my pocket like a promise of justice.Suddenly the main doors burst open. Heavy footsteps echoed across the stone floor. I turned and my blood ran cold.Caden strode in like he owned the hall. Liliana walked beside him one hand resting dramatically on her rounded belly. She looked every bit the fragile expecting mate glowing with false innocence. Caden’s eyes scanned the room until they locked onto me. A cruel smirk spread across his face."What is the meaning of this?" my father demanded though his voice wavered. "This is a private royal inspection."Caden ignored him completely. He bowed slightly toward Alaric. "My King I apologize for th
Alaric’s POVI stood at the window of the guest chambers overlooking the Hollow Fall estate. The moon cast long shadows across the grounds. My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin. This inspection was supposed to be routine. Verify tributes. Assess loyalty. Yet from the moment I arrived nothing felt routine. Especially not the bold young woman who had challenged me in the courtyard.Serena. Her name echoed in my mind. She had fire, real fire. Not the calculated obedience most Alphas surrounded themselves with. Her defiance stirred something I had not felt in years. But I could not afford distractions. Not with the shadows of the past still hunting me.A soft knock sounded at the door. "Enter," I commanded. My advisor Marcus stepped inside. He bowed low. His silver hair gleamed under the lantern light. "My King, the preliminary reports from the inspection are ready. Alpha Grey’s accounts show inconsistencies. Small enough to dismiss but troubling when viewed together."I turned fro

Serena’s POVThe entire estate was screaming with noise and panic. Servants were scurrying like ants polishing silver that was already clean and frantically fixing stones that were already level. My father was everywhere at once, his face red with stress barking orders that changed every five seconds. He treated the pack like a broken machine he was trying to hide before the master came to inspect it."You stay here," my father spat at me and Penelope in the nursery. He had locked us in the east wing hours ago. "You are damaged goods Serena. A disgraced ex mate. If the King sees you he will know I have lost control of my own blood. You stay out of sight or I will make sure you never see the light of day again."He slammed the door and the lock clicked into place with a final heavy sound. Penelope began to cry. Her shoulders shook in the dim light. I ignored her tears. My mind raced. I walked to the window watching the long driveway that stretched toward the horizon. If the King was co
Serena’s POVThe silence in the room was suffocating, punctuated only by Penelope’s jagged breathing. I sat on the floor beside her holding her hand. Her skin was ice cold, a stark reminder of the terror my father had instilled in her. Looking at her I did not see a stranger. I saw myself three years ago trapped, silenced and waiting for a rescue that never came."I can not go through with it Serena," Penelope sobbed. Her head rested on her knees. "He says I am lucky. He says a marriage to that monster will secure the pack's future. He does not care if I die.""You are not going to marry him," I said. My voice was firm. I felt a surge of protectiveness that was entirely new to me. "I was a pawn for too long letting men like Grey and Caden decide my worth. I will not let you become the next sacrifice on their altar of greed."Penelope looked at me. Her eyes were red rimmed. "Why are you helping me? I am just a mistake remember?"I brushed a stray lock of hair from her face. "You are my
