Olivia sat beside the bed, holding her daughter’s tiny hand as her chest rose and fell faintly, like it could stop at any moment. It felt like yesterday when the doctor told her Lily was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease. Even after almost a year, she still could not believe it. The doctor’s words continued to ring in her head as though she had heard them only yesterday. “Your daughter was born with a hole in her heart. Her condition will worsen over time,” the doctor had said. Olivia still remembered falling to her knees, begging him to find a way to save her daughter. “We are monitoring her closely and placing her on the transplant list. It may take a long time, but she could get lucky and receive a donor sooner.” Olivia had held onto that hope every single day, but now it had almost been a year and there was still no sign of a donor. The treatments were failing. The medications were no longer working. Everything was slowly closing in on them. She had prayed over and over again. She had done everything she could, but still no donor came. She could not give up, not when her daughter was the only thing keeping her alive. It had been a year, and her husband had never once called to ask about their daughter’s condition. They occasionally crossed paths whenever she returned to the mansion, but he never asked about Lily. He was always with his ex girlfriend, Vanessa, the lady she believes he cut ties with long ago. Whenever Olivia tried to speak to him, he would go on and on about how much he hated her. She held onto the little hope of love left in her heart until the day she overheard him talking to his secretary. He had admitted that he married her only to satisfy his dying father. He said he never cared about her. “The only woman I want in my life is Vanessa. Olivia is just a parasite who refuses to leave.” Something inside Olivia died that day, but her daughter held her together once again. She watched as Lily slowly opened her eyes and smiled at her, the same bright smile that always lit up her darkest days. “Hey, princess. How are you feeling now?” Olivia asked gently and Lily nodded weakly. “Mummy, when can we go to the beach? I miss the beach,” Lily said softly and Olivia forced a smile. “Soon, dear. We’ll go to the beach once you get better, okay?” She replied and Lily’s expression dimmed slightly. “When will my new heart arrive? I want to leave this hospital already.” She asked and Olivia’s eyes burned with tears. “Your new heart will arrive soon. The doctor said they’re still searching, so don’t lose hope, okay?” She assured and Lily smiled happily. “Then I can go to the beach with you and Daddy.” She smiled and Olivia nodded slowly. “But when will Daddy come see me?” Lily asked innocently. “You said I was asleep when he came the other day, but I won’t sleep early tonight so I can see him.” Olivia’s smile faded immediately. Everyday, she lied to her daughter about her father. “Yes, dear,” she whispered painfully. “Daddy will come today too.” After a while, Lily fell asleep again and Olivia quietly left the hospital to get something to eat even though it was already late. As she walked down the road, she dialed Ethan’s number once more but he did not pick up. He never picked up her calls. She sighed softly and hailed a cab to the nearest subway store to get a sandwich. After buying it, she decided to walk back to the hospital instead. The distance was not far and she wanted to clear her head. Her mind was in complete chaos as she walked silently through the quiet street. Cars sped past her while strangers brushed by without a second glance. Suddenly, a loud crashing sound echoed ahead and Olivia’s heart skipped violently as she looked up and saw a black car slammed against a roadside lamp post. The driver had swerved to avoid another vehicle before crashing. People quickly gathered around the scene while someone called an ambulance. Olivia stood frozen for a moment before slowly walking toward the crowd despite herself. The driver was unconscious and he was bleeding heavily from the head while a little boy sat trembling in the back seat. People assumed the child was only frightened from the accident but Olivia immediately knew something was wrong. This was not fear, the boy could barely breathe. After spending almost a year in hospitals with Lily, she had learned to recognize the signs immediately. She rushed forward and pulled the car door open before carefully carrying the little boy out. “What are you doing? The ambulance is already on the way!” a woman shouted. “He’s having an asthma attack,” Olivia replied quickly. “He can’t breathe.” She immediately rushed back to the vehicle and searched frantically until she finally found an inhaler beneath the seat. Olivia hurried back to the boy and gently lifted his head before helping him use the inhaler. A few seconds later, his breathing slowly returned to normal and relief flashed across Olivia’s face as she smiled at him softly. “Are you okay now?” She asked and the little boy nodded weakly while staring at her face. “Thank you,” he whispered quietly. Before Olivia could respond, several black luxury cars suddenly pulled over behind the crowd. A group of men hurried out immediately. “Young master!” They quickly surrounded the little boy before carefully carrying him back toward one of the cars while some tend to the injured driver. Olivia slowly stood up as one of the guards approached her and handed her a card respectfully. “Our boss would like to thank you for saving the young master. Please call the number on the card if you ever need anything.” Olivia accepted the card absentmindedly as the guards left with the boy. She stared at the card for a moment before suddenly remembering Lily and her eyes widened instantly. She turned around and ran back toward the hospital. By the time Olivia arrived, she was breathing heavily. She paused briefly outside the ward, trying to calm herself before walking in with a small smile on her face. But the moment she entered the room, she froze. Ethan was standing beside their sleeping daughter’s bed. For a second, Olivia could not deny the happiness rising inside her chest. “You... came?” she asked softly, forcing a smile but Ethan did not return it. Instead, he pulled out a file and handed it to her coldly. “Sign it.” Olivia slowly accepted the file, already dreading what was inside. The moment she opened it, her face turned pale. The room was unfamiliar. She tried to sit up, but something heavy rested on her lap. She lowered her gaze and saw a little boy asleep against her leg, holding her hand tightly as though afraid she would disappear.Olivia stared at him in silence, confusion settling on her face.A maid entered the room and immediately noticed she was awake. “You’re awake,” she said softly, but Olivia did not respond. Her eyes moved between the maid and the sleeping child, and the maid followed her gaze. “Oh… he refused to leave your side since yesterday. GRAVEYARD~~ EVENINGOlivia buried her daughter with the same hands that once held her the first time she entered the world.Nobody came with her to the graveyard, but she did not want anyone there anyway. At that moment, all she wanted was silence. She sat beside the freshly covered grave and slowly placed her trembling hand on it while tears rolled endlessly down her cheeks. All these years, she had only dreamed about Lily receiving a new heart and finally leaving the hospital healthy.Never once had she imagined burying her instead.Olivia hugged Lily’s favorite teddy bear tightly against her chest while the child’s drawing book rested quietly beside the grave. With shaking hands and swollen red eyes, she picked up the book and slowly flipped through the pages one after another. At first the drawings looked normal, childish scribbles mixed with colorful sketches. Then Olivia noticed the hidden sentences Lily had written carefully across different pages. She slowly pieced the words t
Next DayLily had been in the ICU all night, and Olivia could not sleep no matter how hard she tried. Every second felt unbearable as she stood outside the glass doors staring at her daughter’s tiny body lying motionless on the hospital bed.Lily looked so fragile now, like the life inside her was slowly fading away little by little.Tears rolled silently down Olivia’s cheeks as she pressed her trembling hand against the glass. The doctor finally stepped out of the ICU, and Olivia rushed toward him immediately.“Doctor, how is she?” she asked hurriedly. The doctor lowered his eyes before shaking his head slowly.“Talk to me, doctor. What’s happening to my child?” Her voice cracked instantly.“I’m sorry, Mrs. Vaughn, but her heart is no longer functioning properly. I’m afraid there’s very little we can do now.” He paused briefly before continuing in a softer tone. “You should spend as much time with her as possible.”The doctor walked away, leaving Olivia standing there with a heart th
