Chapter 3

مؤلف: Triple Threat
Sheila's POV

I used to hate Mina's pretentiousness, but at that moment, I couldn't be bothered with her. I looked straight at the trash bag in Henry's hand.

"What's in that?" I questioned him.

Henry froze at my question, instinctively trying to hide the bag. "N-nothing. I-It's just garbage…"

I didn't believe him and was about to question him again when Mina grabbed the trash bag and proudly emptied its contents in front of me.

She said smugly, "Since Sheila wants to know what's inside, she can see for herself. It's not a big deal."

Well, it wasn't a big deal to her.

There were several torn-up photos of Henry and me, capturing the sweetest moments from our eight-year relationship.

There were also broken shards of my favorite coffee cup. It was a gift from Henry for my 25th birthday, and I treasured it dearly. But that wasn't all. I also saw my cushions and vases in the trash bag.

Everything that symbolized our eight-year relationship now lay shattered on the floor—and apparently, they had all become nothing more than "garbage" to him. And that included the tamales Mom had made.

I stared in disbelief at the familiar packaging and the scattered tamales on the floor. "You also threw away my mom's tamales?"

Henry's expression shifted, as if he had realized something. He looked at Mina and asked, "You threw these away?"

Mina nodded and said nonchalantly, "Sure did. Sheila, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but I can't believe you put something so dirty in the fridge! Henry is a doctor and a germaphobe. Don't make things hard for him."

My eyes welled up with tears as I looked at Henry. I asked, "Is that also what you think?"

He froze. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately remained silent.

I laughed at his reaction. I laughed so hard that tears streamed down my face.

I crouched down and picked up the tamales Mom had packed. I cleaned them off and put them back in the insulated bag. My hands trembled as I did so, yet my breathing remained so steady that even I was surprised at my fortitude.

I started, "Henry, we've been together for eight years. You mentioned you wanted tamales, so my mom made them and took the train overnight to bring them to you.

"You promised you'd pick her up, but you stood her up at the last minute. She waited for you alone at the station for four hours. In the end, she had to take a cab and got into a car accident. She had multiple fractures and almost lost her life.

"But when she woke up, the first thing she said was she didn't blame you. She even asked if the tamales were ruined and if you had eaten any. You were all she cared about.

"But what did you do? How dare you treat her like this?"

I was Mom's only child, so she always treated Henry like her own. Henry didn't eat spicy food, so she never made spicy food if he was around, even when she loved it.

Henry disliked hot and humid weather. So, even when she missed me during the spring or summer, she had never tried to persuade me to visit her.

She always said that she was fine and happy as long as Henry and I were doing well. She had suffered so much for Henry's sake, yet he treated her kindness like dirt.

Unable to stand the sight of him any longer, I picked up the insulated bag and left. Even as the elevator doors closed, I could still feel Henry's panicked gaze on me.

But it was too late now.

Back at the hospital, I sent my resignation letter to the HR department. I also asked the doctor when Mom would be stable enough to be transferred to another hospital.

After the doctor finished examining Mom, he said, "She's recovering very well. If there are no issues, she can leave after another week of observation."

A week.

I did the math. That would give me just enough time to complete my resignation paperwork.

After thanking the doctor, I noticed that Henry had sent me several messages, asking me where I was and whether I was still angry.

I didn't reply.

He texted me again. "I've already warned Mina about what happened. She won't do it again."

Still, I didn't bother replying.

He finally got angry and sent a harsh voice message. "Sheila, what the hell do you want? I've already apologized, so why won't you let it go?"

He called that an apology?

I leaned back in the cold chair, suddenly recalling the day of the earthquake eight years ago.

Henry was a volunteer doctor, and he had rescued me from the rubble. Back then, he was so gentle as he said, "Don't be afraid. I'm right here."

  • I Can Wait, but I Won't Anymore   Chapter 13

Sheila's POVSometimes, Zack would just sit by the window reading, waiting for me to finish my shift so we could have dinner together. He never rushed me.If I needed ten minutes, he would really wait for ten minutes. If I told him I was tired, he would just tell me to rest well and that he'd drop by again the next day.I gradually began to understand something. Someone who truly loved you wouldn't wear you down with disappointment. They would remind you that your time was precious, your feelings were important, and your family deserved respect. One evening, just as I was closing my flower shop, Henry showed up. He stood outside the door. He had become so thin that I almost couldn't recognize him. He was wearing a very old coat, and his eyes were bloodshot.Even when I saw him through the glass, I still remained calm.Zack asked, "Want me to deal with him?"I shook my head. "I'll do it myself."I walked to the door. When Henry saw me, his eyes instantly turned red. "Sheila, I

Sheila's POVThe evidence included records of Henry applying medicine to Mina, accompanying her to checkups, and leaving his post without permission. There was also the screenshot of the eight calls I had made to him that night in the emergency room. The incident caused an uproar. The hospital suspended him from his position. Later, he had his professional license revoked for serious violations of medical ethics. My friend had mentioned that when Henry got the news, he sat outside the hospital all night, clutching the list I had left him.He even asked other people these questions. "Was she very scared that day? Did she cry when she signed those papers alone?"No one ever answered his questions. After all, the answers no longer mattered. His regret and concern came too little, too late.Mina wasn't much better off. After the incident with Henry, she immediately dumped him because he was useless. Instead, she hooked up with a man who had luxury cars. She thought she had finally

  • I Can Wait, but I Won't Anymore   Chapter 11

Sheila's POVWhen Zack saw Henry blocking my way, he quickly walked over. He asked, "Sheila, are you okay?"I looked into Henry's eyes, which were filled with suspicion and possessiveness. Then, I made a sudden decision. I took Zack's hand. He visibly stiffened, but he didn't pull away.I looked straight at Henry and said calmly, "Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Zack Lowe."Blood immediately drained from Henry's face. He muttered, "You're lying. Sheila, I can't believe you'd even tell such a lie to spite me."I didn't bother to explain myself and just tightened my grip on Zack's hand. "It doesn't matter what you think. My point is that you shouldn't bother me anymore."Henry's eyes were red at the corners. He asked, "How is he better than me?"I looked at him pointedly. "In every way. At least he won't let my mom wait when she has a medical checkup. He replies when I text him, and he treats me with respect."Henry felt his heart bleed at my words.Just then, a sh

Sheila's POV"I won't give you another chance," I declared.Henry wanted to approach me again, but Zack immediately called security. When Henry was stopped, he stared at me unwaveringly. "Sheila, I won't give up."I turned Mom's wheelchair around and said softly yet firmly, "Suit yourself. I won't wait for you anyway."…Henry hadn't given up. In the past few days, he had come to the hospital every day. He brought flowers, fruit, supplements, and even a wedding ring. The nurse brought the things to the door of the ward and asked me if I wanted to keep them.Yet, I said, "Please return those."Henry's face turned ashen when he heard my words from where he was standing at the end of the corridor. He had even sent me many text messages."Sheila, I have looked at the list you left and realized how much I've wronged you.""I've rewritten and memorized every single offense of mine.""I won't make you wait anymore.""Let's get married, okay?"I simply texted. "Too late for that.

  • I Can Wait, but I Won't Anymore   Chapter 9

Sheila's POVIn the days that followed, Zack often helped me. When Mom needed to go for a checkup, he helped wheel her there, and he even kept an eye on her IV drip while I was running late from buying food.He never crossed the line or tried to curry favor with us. He simply said, "It's no big deal."Mom really liked him. She whispered to me, "Zack seems honest and kind."I chuckled at her words. "Mom, you've only known him for a few days."Mom huffed at that. "I'm a good judge of character."I didn't think much of what she said. That afternoon, Zack was taking Mom to her follow-up appointment. Just as we reached the department, we noticed Henry. He had lost a lot of weight. There were also dark circles under his eyes, and he hadn't shaved properly. The shirt he was wearing was wrinkled. He looked nothing like the neat, well-put-together doctor I once knew. When he saw me, his eyes turned red. "Sheila."I stopped in my tracks. I felt nothing at all, as if I was just seeing s

  • I Can Wait, but I Won't Anymore   Chapter 8

Third-Person POVHenry suddenly turned to look at Mina and asked, "Do you know why I didn't pick up Isla that day?"A flicker of uncertainty appeared in Mina's eyes. She answered, "Wasn't it because my dog went missing?""Did your dog really go missing?" he retorted. She bit her lip nervously, then replied, "Of cour—"He opened his phone and clicked on Mina's post on X from that day. At 10:00 am, she had posted a selfie. The caption read, "Gummy has been so clingy today. He's just lying nearby and refuses to leave."In the photo, the supposedly missing dog was lying on the carpet.Henry froze at what he read. He finally realized he had been deceived. However, he realized something even more ridiculous. Even if Mina had lied to him, he had still chosen her over Sheila. He didn't go to the train station. He hung up on Sheila. He even said Isla could wait.He looked down, his voice hoarse as he uttered, "Mina, you lied to me."Mina panicked at his words. "I-I just wanted you
