MasukAlthough annoyed by Poppy's request to come with him, Evander still took Poppy with him to one of the survivor bases closest to their current location.
“So you mean there are no more towns or villages here?” Poppy stared in disbelief as she watched her step because the road they were walking on was covered with snow.
Evander glanced at Poppy in surprise, “You didn't know about this?”
Feeling that Evander was beginning to suspect her, Poppy forced an awkward laugh and nervously rubbed the back of her neck.
“Of course I know. It's just that there were still a few cities left before, weren't there?” Cold sweat the size of corn kernels began to appear on Poppy's forehead. She hoped her nonsense was plausible enough.
Evander stared at Poppy with a searching gaze for a long time. Poppy even swallowed nervously, hoping Evander wouldn't discover her lie.
“Unfortunately, the last city, Volibird, was destroyed two weeks ago.” Evander then sighed and looked away from Poppy.
Poppy quietly breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that her question had not made Evander suspicious of her.
Not wanting to bring disaster upon herself, Poppy chose to keep her mouth shut to prevent her from uttering more nonsense and making Evander suspicious of her presence.
The longer they walked down the snowy road, the more Poppy realized that Evander was getting closer and closer to her. Now Poppy even realized that Evander's shoulder was touching hers.
“Hey, why are you getting so close to me again?” Poppy glared at Evander, warning him not to get too close to her.
Evander's eyes scanned Poppy from head to toe, doing so several times until Poppy frowned unhappily.
“I'm wondering how you can not be cold in such thin clothes?” While stepping between the piles of snow, Evander stared intently at Poppy.
A smirk appeared on Poppy's face as she walked closer to Evander, surprising him and causing him to stop in his tracks.
"Haven't you already felt the warmth of my body? Why are you still questioning it? Don't tell me...“ Poppy placed one hand on Evander's shoulder, then slowly moved it down to caress his chest.
Evander coughed softly when he heard Poppy's words, not expecting her to say it so bluntly. Evander quickly grabbed Poppy's hand that was on his chest.
”Stop playing with me. We have to get to the base before the next snowstorm hits,“ Evander replied, pulling Poppy's hand to follow him.
”Gosh, you're avoiding my question again!" Poppy rolled her eyes lazily at Evander's boring reaction.
Evander remained silent, choosing not to respond to Poppy, even though his ears were secretly red at the moment.
“Where is this base you're talking about? We've been walking for so long, but I don't see any sign of it.” Poppy wasn't cold, but that didn't mean she wasn't tired. She was walking with her head down, breathing heavily.
With thick snow piled up along their path, Poppy felt her legs were about to give out.
“Look, the base is in sight!” Evander pointed ahead.
Amidst the expanse of snow, a black building stood out in stark contrast to the white surroundings. Filled with hope, Poppy stood up straight again.
“Come on, hurry! I can't wait to stretch my legs!” With burning enthusiasm, Poppy pulled Evander's arm to quickly take her to the base.
It took Evander and Poppy about an hour to reach the towering steel gate of the base. Poppy did not expect the base to be this big, with the steel gate reaching a height of more than 5 meters.
Poppy forgot the pain in her legs when she arrived in front of the steel gate, and a feeling of overwhelm filled her chest right now.
“Where are your exchange items?” One of the guards standing in front of the steel gate began to demand payment.
Evander remained silent, but he took out a silver plaque the size of a credit card from his coat and gave it to the guard.
“She is my friend. We were caught in a snowstorm last night, so we lost our belongings,” Evander immediately explained their situation to the guards.
“Tsk! I will forgive you this time. But next time, even if you are members of the base, you will not be allowed to enter if you do not bring anything to exchange!” With a displeased look on his face, the guard warned Evander sternly.
Then, shortly after, a loud creaking sound of metal was heard. Slowly, the sturdy steel door opened, revealing a small gap that was just enough for Evander and Poppy to enter the base.
Evander immediately pulled Poppy's hand, rushing to enter the base. Poppy could only follow Evander's steps, considering that she still didn't know how this base worked.
Poppy's eyes immediately scanned her surroundings, observing the landscape of the base. From her observations, Poppy could be sure that this base was as big as a city, with many buildings scattered around it.
In fact, life inside the base was more crowded than Poppy had expected, with everyone inside the base wearing thick clothes. Seeing this, Poppy thought to immediately change her clothes to reduce other people's suspicion of her.
“Go to the Registration Office, they will give you an ID card to make it easier for you to enter the base.” Evander pointed to a building on the right side, not far from the base entrance gate.
“Okay.” Poppy nodded slowly, understanding what Evander meant.
As Poppy was about to walk towards the Registration Office, she realized that Evander was taking a different path from her.
Unprepared for this, Poppy turned around to hold Evander's hand. Evander's expression looked gloomy, very different from his usual expression.
“Aren't you coming with me?” Poppy blinked her eyes in confusion, not expecting Evander to leave her.
“I've taken you to the base, and with that, I've paid my debt. Whatever happens to you at this base is no longer my responsibility,” explained Evander as he shook off Poppy's hand.
Seeing her hand pushed away by Evander, Poppy's eyes widened in surprise. She didn't expect Evander to just abandon her like this.
“I hope you can adapt here. See you later.” Evander's broad shoulders turned away, leaving Poppy there alone.
Poppy stood frozen in her place, stunned. She hadn't thought Evander would leave her like this.
“It seems I'll have to get used to this kind of goodbye if I want to survive in this world.” Poppy's gaze was still vacant, not yet accustomed to the empty feeling of being left behind by someone.
“You bastards! Watch out, I won't let this go!” Evander roared angrily at Irene and Kevin, who didn't seem to feel guilty at all.Evander rushed to chase after the Ogre, who was already running away with Poppy. He couldn't just let Poppy be kidnapped by that monster.Irene, who saw Evander leave, began waving her hand in the direction Evander went while mocking him.“Huh! He thinks he can do something to us? Seeing him now makes me even more annoyed.” Irene pouted in frustration, folding one arm across her waist.Kevin, who was standing next to Irene, embraced her affectionately, “Sooner or later they will die, so you don't have to worry. I'm sure Samantha will be satisfied after hearing this.”“Come on, let's go. These monsters make me sick,” replied Irene, turning to Kevin with a bored look on her face. The situation outside the walls was chaotic, with many people running for their lives into the base. The roars of the monsters near them grew louder.Due to the chaos, no one noticed
“What, there's another wall behind this one?” Poppy was confused when she and the other workers stepped out from behind the wall.“That's right, it's to prevent the monsters from breaking into the base,” Evander replied softly. To be honest, it was the first time Evander had seen the outer wall because it was not usually this visible. And that was when they saw the outer wall, which was completely destroyed. It turned out that this was where they would be working for the next few days. The foreman supervising the workers could be heard shouting at them to hurry up and start building. Poppy realized that they had been divided into several groups to speed up the work.Poppy looked around and realized that there were more than a dozen people on their side of the wall.“Why are you just standing there! Hurry up and get to work!”The foreman's voice was loud, and although the other workers were unhappy, they remained silent and obeyed the foreman's orders.Poppy, who was lifting stones, gl
Curious about Poppy's reaction, Evander began to look in the direction Poppy had been looking. And without Evander expecting it, Poppy pulled his arm so hard that he turned around immediately. Evander could feel Poppy gripping his hand very tightly, making him even more surprised.“Don't let them see you,” Poppy said, gritting her teeth.Poppy slowly glanced in the direction where Kevin and Irene were, making sure that neither of them saw her and Evander.Poppy didn't know if it was just Kevin and Irene here; there was a possibility that Samantha and the rest of her group were also here.To be honest, Poppy wasn't that afraid of Samantha, but she just wanted to avoid trouble because when she met that woman, trouble would foll
“You'd better go with Jason to get firewood. I can go to the Northern Area of the base by myself,” said Poppy, trying to persuade Evander to let her go alone.“No. Jason can go with Lily, I'm sure you don't mind, right?” Evander turned to Jason and Lily, raising one eyebrow.“Of course!” Lily quickly nodded her head, not wanting to deal with Evander.Evander shrugged at Lily's reaction, showing Poppy that what she was worried about was no longer a problem.Poppy sighed and massaged her temples, reluctantly agreeing to let Evander accompany her to the northern area.“You don't need to worry about us, Poppy. Go with Evan today. It would be dangerous for you to go there alone,” said Jason after the situation had calmed down.“Since no one else objects, it's decided.” Evander crossed his arms in front of his chest with satisfaction.“All right, so when are we leaving?” Since there was nothing else she could do, Poppy chose to accept it.“Get ready quickly. It would be better if we got the
Poppy moaned softly as she felt her whole body ache after wrestling with Evander on the bed all night. To be honest, Poppy didn't expect the chocolate to be some kind of aphrodisiac. If she had known, she wouldn't have gotten it for Evander.Slowly, Poppy got up from her sleep, removing Evander's hand that was still wrapped around her waist. Of course, Poppy's actions woke Evander up, or more accurately, made Evander finally choose to open his eyes.“Where are you going?” Evander's voice sounded hoarse and low, his eyes still half-closed as he looked up at Poppy.“Out. It's time to wake up, stupid. Stop hugging me!” Poppy quickly pulled herself away from Evander, who was trying to pull her back onto the mattress.“Poppy!” Evander shouted in a low voice, calling after Poppy, who had already run out of the tent.Poppy giggled after successfully escaping from Evander. Outside, it was unusually quiet with no one around, so Poppy began to wonder where Jason and Lily were.“It's unusual for
“Are you sure you don't want to stay here?” Poppy stopped behind the gate to her yard.“Yes. Thank you for inviting me here today,” Arabella replied with a small smile. As Arabella was about to leave Poppy's residence, she stopped and turned back to look at Poppy.Poppy, who was still standing in front of the gate, tilted her head in confusion when she saw Arabella turn to look at her.“I'll see you again when I have the answer,” said Arabella, the corners of her lips lifting higher than before.“Okay! We'll wait for you here,” replied Poppy, waving her hand at Arabella.Arabella waved back at Poppy as she walked away from the area.Poppy remained standing in front of the gate to her yard until Arabella's shadow disappeared from view. Only then did Poppy turn around to go back into her yard. Her other friends were still enjoying the remaining barbecue. Poppy could see them chatting casually, and only after hearing her footsteps did Lily get up from her seat and pull Poppy to sit next
“Brother?! What's wrong? Your body is so cold!” The little girl looked panicked as she held her brother's hand and felt that his body was as cold as ice.“Looks like we need to warm him up right now,” Poppy replied, glancing at the little girl's brother.Evander looked at Poppy with reluctance, bec

“Help!”The scream rang out again, causing Evander and Poppy to look at each other with tense expressions. From the sound of it, the scream seemed to be coming from not too far away from their current position.“Should we check what might be happening?” Poppy glanced fearfully at Evander as she trie
“Where should we hide?” Poppy had to look back several times to check the situation behind them, making sure that the Orcs chasing them were still far behind. However, without Poppy expecting it, the Orcs were able to c
