Chapter 1

"Fill out this mate registration form quickly and submit it," Adrian Northgate said, tapping the table impatiently.

I stared at the mate bond registration form. The familiar scene made me feel dizzy and disoriented.

In my previous life, I had devoutly written my own name on the application form, then happily discussed the details of the marking ceremony with Adrian.

However, he scolded me harshly. "Once we get the mate certificate, we'll be legal mates, but the ceremony is all just for show. As for marking, that can happen anytime — it doesn't have to be during the ceremony."

He was busy planning to hunt a fox pelt for my sister, Sophia Harrington, because she mentioned feeling cold when going out in winter. At this moment, he kept glancing at his phone, his expression showing signs of restlessness.

My fingertips gently traced the smooth paper as I suppressed the bitterness in my heart. "If you have something to do, go ahead. I'll finish filling this out and submit it myself."

He visibly relaxed and spoke to me with a rare tone of gentleness, "Don't worry. You'll be my legal mate from now on. I'll take responsibility for you."

After saying this, he frowned slightly and added, "Stop targeting Sophia all the time and ruining her reputation. You two need to get along, understand?"

I remained silent. I had tried explaining countless times in my previous life that I had never ruined her reputation or bullied her, but no one believed me. In his eyes, I was just a jealous, malicious sister who could not tolerate her gentle, kind younger sister.

He did not wait for my answer. After speaking, he hurriedly turned and left.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my heart from the grievances I had accumulated over two lifetimes. My mind was filled with everything that happened in my previous life.

The night Adrian marked me, he used the excuse of caring for my injured sister and never came home. When he went south with the troops to fight, he only took Sophia with him, saying that she had never seen the sight of other packs.

Even when our son was born, he did not come back to see him, focusing only on comforting Sophia, who had lost her mate.

I devoted my entire life to our family. Even on my deathbed, my son was still trying to convince me to dissolve the mate bond.

"Mom, just break the bond with Dad. He loves Aunt Sophia, but has been forcing himself to live with you. He's so pitiful! You should let him go!"

I lay weakly on the hospital bed, looking at my indifferent mate. He said nothing, just stood silently beside our son, agreeing with what our son said.

When I thought of the frustration from my previous life, tears of grievance kept falling down my cheeks. A wave of sorrow surged through my heart.

Since they loved each other, I would fulfill their wishes. In this lifetime, I would live for myself.

I picked up the pen and slowly wrote Sophia's name in the mate section.

"Adrian, since you love her so much, let it be as you wish."

I submitted the completed registration form to the city hall staff and soon received the mate certificate. I was not sad. Instead, I felt an indescribable sense of relief.

My sister and I lost our parents in the territorial wars, and Adrian's family adopted us. I was someone who worked quietly without fighting or competing, while my sister had a personality that knew how to please others.

She would sweet-talk everyone constantly and, even without doing anything, she could make the entire Northgate family happy. Adrian's mother had long ago decided Sophia would be her daughter-in-law.

However, Sophia looked down on Adrian when he was just an ordinary warrior. She used the excuse of not wanting to compete with me, supposedly allowing Adrian to willingly mark me instead.

She wanted to find a better mate, but could not bear to give up the Northgates' affection for her.

Everyone praised her as a good sister who sacrificed her happiness for her older sister. However, in secret, she framed me repeatedly, deliberately hurting herself to make others think I was jealous.

I cherished our sisterly bond and gave in to her every time, thinking that if I showed genuine care, they would eventually see who I really was.

Despite this, in my previous life, even until the moment I died, I never received the recognition I deserved.

Adrian clutched his head painfully, his voice full of regret. "I was such a b*stard in those dreams. I'm so sorry. I want to make it up to you..."I stepped back, my voice distant and cold. "If you really want to make it up to me, then live a good life with Sophia and stop bothering me."His shoulders sagged, his eyes pleading. "Don't I have any chances left? Can't we really be together?"I pointed toward the door, dismissing him. "Just go. It's not possible between us!"Since he and Sophia were already living here, there was no reason for me to stay. The Northgates had never really been my home anyway.Early the next morning, I packed my bags and knocked on Margaret's door.I pressed a bank card into her hands, saying calmly, "Thank you for taking care of me all these years. This money is my way of repaying you for raising me."Margaret froze, quickly waving her hands in refusal. "Elena, I can't take this...""Please keep it. We probably won't see each other much anymore."Ma

During winter break, Margaret kept calling me nonstop."Christmas is coming and we always spend the holidays together. When are you coming home?"I really did not want to go back, but Adrian's parents had raised me. I could not bring myself to be completely heartless. After thinking it over for a long time, I finally bought a train ticket and headed back to White Moon Pack with a bag full of local souvenirs. The moment I walked through the mansion's front door, I heard Sophia's shrill screaming."Adrian, how can you treat me like this? I'm carrying your pup!"I froze in place, staring at Sophia with her huge belly, pointing at Adrian and going off on him.Adrian's expression was dark, but he was still trying to calm her down. "Sophia, you need to relax. The doctor said that getting upset isn't good for the pup.""I want that moonstone necklace and I want it now!""Sophia, can I get it for you next month? I just bought you that purse at the auction a couple of days ago. I don't

I thought Adrian would back off after that incident, but I was wrong. Sophia showed up too."Adi, let's go back and dissolve the mate bond! I don't want to steal my sister's mate! I'm... I'm such a terrible person!" Sophia grabbed Adrian's sleeve, sobbing dramatically.Adrian's attention immediately shifted to her. He pulled her into his arms, comforting her softly. "Don't cry, Sophia. This isn't your fault. I'm the one who messed up and made you suffer. I'll go back with you right now!"Sophia looked at me and her knees buckled like she was about to collapse at my feet. "Elena, I'm so sorry! Please don't be angry with Adi. We really don't have anything going on!"Adrian yanked her back up and glared at me furiously. "Elena, are you happy now? All of this is just because you're jealous of Sophia, isn't it? I was so wrong about you!"Their scene was causing quite a commotion. Students walking by stopped to stare and whisper among themselves.I was not fazed at all. "If you don't

The air in the northern grasslands was crisp and sweet. Walking across the Northern Grassland Werewolf University campus, I actually felt like I could breathe again.During the day, I sat in classrooms listening intently, soaking up knowledge I'd never had the chance to learn in my previous life.At night, I worked part-time at the pup training grounds, helping young wolves with their exercises and cleaning up equipment until my back ached. However, even bone-deep tired, I felt more alive than I had in years. After a month, I had settled into this busy but fulfilling routine. I was gradually forgetting Adrian, and the memories of my past life were fading with the passage of time.I never expected Adrian to come to the northern grasslands looking for me. He stood outside my dorm building, and the moment he saw me, he exploded with anger."Elena, why did you put Sophia's name on the mate certificate? And why didn't you come to the southern territories?"I looked at him calmly, my h

A few days later, Adrian took half the day off to wait for me at the train station. He waited all day, but I never showed up.He tried calling my phone over and over, but nobody answered.A sense of unease crept across his chest, mixed with irritation. He called his mother, but she just mumbled vague responses and could not tell him where I had gone. Finally, Adrian requested leave from his unit and headed back to White Moon Pack with Sophia. The second he walked through the door, he stopped short. The house was decked out like a celebration, with streamers and balloons everywhere. What was all this for?He brushed past the decorations and headed straight for my room. When he opened the door, his stomach dropped. The room was completely bare. Every single thing that belonged to me was gone.Panic hit him out of nowhere. He spun around and nearly crashed into Margaret."Mom, where's Elena? What happened to all her stuff?"Margaret's smile faltered for a split second before she

Just when I thought I was going to die there, I heard the sounds of intense fighting nearby. The rogues tearing at me scattered in all directions and I heard a concerned voice asking, "Miss, are you okay? Can you stand up?"The patrol team had arrived just in time. They rescued me and thoughtfully took me to the hospital.I lay on the hospital bed, aching all over. Fortunately, there was no serious damage and the doctor said that I'd be fine after a few days of rest. The kind patrol team members helped arrange all my hospital examinations. It was not until dark that Adrian finally walked into the room with an exhausted expression. When he saw I was awake, a flash of panic crossed his face. "Elena, how do you feel? Are you better?"I looked at him expressionlessly without saying a word.He rubbed his hands together guiltily. "Sophia was terrified and kept asking me to stay with her. You know how weak she is..."Seeing that I was not arguing or making a fuss, he panicked a little
