LOGINAdrian’s POV
The second that hand touched Elias’s waist I was already moving. My boots hit the pavement hard as I moved towards them. People on the quad turned to look, but I didn’t care. All I saw was the easy way that brown-haired bastard leaned in, the soft smile on his face, and the fact that Elias still hadn’t stepped back. Why was he letting some rando touch him? I stopped three feet away. “Kane.” Elias’s head snapped up and his dark eyes went wide for half a second before the shutters came down, while the other guy’s hand slid off his waist a beat too slowly for my liking. “Vale,” Elias said, his voice deliberately flat, “what do you want?” “Who the fuck is this?” I asked, eyes locked on the stranger as the ugly heat in my chest refused to settle. The guy raised both hands as if the gesture alone could prove he was harmless. “Whoa. Easy. I’m just….” “I wasn’t talking to you.” Elias stepped between us with a sharpness that suggested he already knew how this was going to go. “His name is Caleb. He’s in my thermodynamics class. We were talking about the midterm.” “Midterm,” I repeated, tasting the word like it was an insult, “with his hand on your waist.” Caleb frowned and tried again. “It wasn’t like that. I was just…” “Leave,” I said, the single word carrying every ounce of the jealousy that had ripped through me the moment I saw them standing that close. Elias’s jaw tightened. “You don’t get to decide that.” “Yeah, I do.” I looked at Caleb again and kept my voice low and final. “Walk away. Now.” Caleb glanced at Elias, waiting for a signal, and Elias gave a short nod that looked almost reluctant. “It’s fine. I’ll text you later.” Caleb hesitated for another second before he backed up and said, “Alright. See you in class,” throwing one last look over his shoulder as he left. The second he was gone Elias turned on me with enough anger to make the air between us feel charged. “What the hell is your problem?” “My problem is that guy’s hand on you like he owns you.” “He doesn’t own me. No one does.” “Could’ve fooled me.” Elias laughed once, the sound sharp and humorless. “You’re unbelievable. You fuck me once in a storage room and suddenly you’re territorial?” “It wasn’t just once,” I said, stepping closer so that the space between us shrank to almost nothing. “You came twice. You clawed my back open. You said my name like it was the only word you knew.” His cheeks flushed a deep red. “Shut up.” “Why? Scared someone will hear the truth?” “There is no truth. It was the drugs. That’s it.” I shook my head slowly. “Keep telling yourself that. Maybe one day you’ll believe it.” Elias’s voice dropped lower. “What do you want from me, Vale?” “I want you to stop running.” “I’m not running.” “You ducked me after practice. You took the long way out of lecture. You looked straight through me this morning like I was invisible.” I tilted my head and held his gaze without blinking. “That’s running.” He exhaled hard through his nose. “Maybe I just don’t want to talk to you.” “Too bad. We’re talking.” Elias glanced around the quad where a few students had already begun to watch, then muttered a curse and jerked his chin toward the side of the student center. “Not here.” I followed him around the corner into the narrow alley between the building and the maintenance shed, and the second we were out of sight he spun around with his arms crossed tightly over his chest. “Say whatever you need to say and then leave me alone.” “I can’t.” “Why not?” “Because every time I close my eyes I feel you.” Elias’s mouth opened and then closed again as he looked away. “Don’t.” “Don’t what? Tell the truth?” I stepped in until our chests almost touched and the heat of him reached me through the thin space that remained. “You think I haven’t tried to forget? I kissed a girl last night. Pretty. Dark hair. Soft mouth. The second she touched me I saw you. I sent her away.” His eyes flicked back to mine. “That’s not my problem.” “It is now.” “Why?” “Because I can’t stop wanting you.” Silence stretched between us while Elias’s breathing went shallow and uneven. “I hate you,” he said finally, the words carrying less conviction than he probably intended. “I know.” “I’ve hated you since the first day you showed up and took my lap times.” “I know that too.” “Then why are you doing this?” “Because hating you doesn’t change the fact that I woke up hard thinking about the way you sounded when I was inside you.” Elias’s face went redder still. “Stop talking like that.” “Make me.” He shoved my chest with both hands, though I barely moved under the force of it. “You’re an asshole,” he said. “And you’re a liar.” “I’m not….” “You are. You can stand there and pretend last night meant nothing, but your body already told me the truth.” I lowered my voice until it was almost a murmur meant only for him. “You were tight. Wet. Shaking. You came so hard you almost blacked out. That wasn’t the drugs, Kane. That was you.” His fists clenched at his sides. “You don’t get to use that against me. And it was just nothing.” “It wasn’t nothing.” “To you it was. You fuck whoever you want. Girls. Guys. Whoever’s convenient.” “You’re not convenient.” Elias’s eyes snapped up to meet mine. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “It means I can’t stop thinking about you.“ Elias looked at me for a moment. At that moment I saw something flicker in his eyes. He shoved past me with enough force that his shoulder slammed into mine, the contact brief but electric. “Stay away from me, Vale.” I caught his wrist before he could fully walk away and felt the way he froze under the simple pressure of my fingers. “You can keep running,” I said quietly, holding his gaze without letting him look away, “but we both know how this ends.” He yanked his arm free and kept walking, and I watched him go until he disappeared around the corner while my pulse continued to hammer in my throat.Elias’s POVAdrian would not wake up.I shook his shoulder harder than I should have. “Adrian. Hey. Open your eyes.”Nothing.“Adrian, come on. Look at me.” My voice cracked. I pressed two fingers to his neck and felt a pulse, but his head stayed limp against the pavement. “Don’t do this. Wake up.”My hands shook so badly I almost dropped the phone. I dialed and spoke the second the operator answered.“I need an ambulance. Someone’s unconscious. A car nearly hit us. He’s not responding.”“Sir, can you confirm the location?”I gave the street name twice, speaking too fast. “Please hurry. He’s bleeding a little from the head. He’s breathing but he won’t wake up. I can’t get him to open his eyes.”“Stay on the line. Help is on the way. Is the area safe?”“Yes. Just get someone here.”I kept one hand on Adrian’s chest. “Adrian, can you hear me? Squeeze my hand or something. Anything. Come on.”Still nothing. The wait felt endless. Every second without a response made the fear climb higher
Adrian’s POVThe broken bottle came at my face fast. I jerked sideways and felt the glass cut through the air where my head had been a second earlier. Elias was already pushing himself off the wall, shoulder checking the man hard enough to knock him off balance. The bottle swung again, wild and drunk. I grabbed the man’s wrist, twisted, and drove my knee into his stomach. The glass clattered to the pavement.“You piece of shit,” the man wheezed, swinging at me with his free hand.I blocked it and shoved him back. Elias moved in from the side and landed a solid punch to the man’s jaw. The guy staggered, spit blood, and still tried to come forward like he could not feel pain.“Stay down,” Elias said, voice sharp. The man lunged at him instead. I caught the back of his jacket and yanked him away before he could tackle Elias to the ground. We both hit the side of a parked car hard. The impact rattled my teeth. He clawed at my face. I drove an elbow into his ribs twice until his grip loose
Adrian’s POVClaire was still watching me when I locked the phone. Her smile stayed polite but her eyes had sharpened.“Well?” she asked. “Who keeps pulling your attention away from the room?”“No one important,” I said.“It looked important. You were smiling at the screen.”“I smile at a lot of things.”She stepped closer and lowered her voice. “Your father is watching us. He’ll expect you to spend the rest of the evening with me. You know that, right?”I glanced past her. My father stood near the far windows with Claire’s father, both of them looking in our direction. The disapproval on my father’s face was clear even from across the room. He wanted a performance. He wanted me focused on Claire and nothing else.Claire touched my arm. “Come on. One more conversation with them and then we can find somewhere quieter. You’ve barely spoken to me tonight.”“I’ve spoken enough.”“You’re in a strange mood.” She kept her hand on my arm. “Is something going on? You’ve been distracted since y
Elias’s POVI locked my phone and set it face down on the lab bench, but the screen still felt like it was burning against the wood. The last message from Adrian sat there unanswered. You’re ridiculous. I had typed it without thinking, and now I could not stop replaying the entire conversation. The way he had said he would rather talk to me than anyone at that party. The easy offer to lend me a suit. The quiet push when he wrote You answered me though.I dragged a hand down my face and tried to focus on the sample readings in front of me. The numbers blurred. My mind kept sliding sideways, back to the storage room, back to the living room wall, back to the fence after the race when his body had pressed against mine and the soreness had reminded me exactly what we had done. I shifted on the stool and felt the dull ache again. It should have made me angry. Instead it made my stomach pull tight.I thought about the way Adrian had looked at me after the last race, that satisfied expressio
Adrian’s POV I had Elias’s cock in my mouth and the broken sound he made when I took him deeper was better than any victory I had ever claimed on the track. He was already leaking across my tongue, hips twitching despite the way his fingers stayed locked in my hair like he still wanted to push me away. I hollowed my cheeks and dragged my tongue along the underside, tasting the sharp salt of him while my free hand worked between his legs, two fingers sliding slick and easy into the tight heat that clenched around me the second I pressed inside. “Fuck…Adrian, wait….” Elias’s voice cracked on my name. “We shouldn’t—this is still a mistake….” I pulled off just long enough to speak against the wet head of his cock. “Then stop moaning like that.” “I’m not….”The protest died when I curled my fingers and found the spot that made his knees buckle. A sharp, helpless moan spilled out of him. “Shit… don’t…” “You don’t want me to stop,” I said, wrapping my hand around him and stroking in
Adrian’s POVThe house felt too large and too quiet when I walked through the front doors after practice. Marble floors stretched under my feet and the usual staff moved around with practiced silence, collecting jackets and disappearing down side hallways before any conversation could start. I headed straight for the staircase, hoping to reach my room without interruption, but my father’s voice carried out from the study.“Adrian, come in here for a minute.”I changed direction and stepped into the room. He sat behind the wide oak desk with a folder open in front of him, glasses low on his nose. My mother occupied the chair near the window, spine straight, expression carefully neutral the way it always was when these conversations started. The air carried the faint scent of his cologne and old paper.“You placed first again today,” he said, glancing up. “That’s fine. I’m not going to pretend it doesn’t look good on paper. But we both know racing is still just a hobby. It isn’t a futur
