LOGINKADE’s POV
“Are you back from picking up your childhood sweetheart?” Rylan, my gamma yelled out when he saw my car drive into my court. Tim, who had accompanied me back to the pack let out a small laugh. It made me wonder if it was good an idea to have made the two my Beta and Gamma. My younger self had done tons of mischievous things with Rylan and Tim. It was natural they acted this way around me. “Where is the little brat?” Rylan asked when he saw that only Tim and I came out of the car. “She did not come along?” Tim scoffed. “She hates his guts. How on earth did Kade steal my spot?” “She does?” Rylan roared in laughter. “That is surprising. The Lyra I remember could die for Kade. She was so in love with this jerk.” My heart squeezed at his words. “Just shut up.” “She’s no longer the nineteen year old you know,” Tim said. “It’s normal to have a crush and I’m happy she has grown past that. Imagine Kade with Lyra. That’s like invest. He is like another older brother to her.” “We don’t have the same parents,” I blurted. They both looked at me weirdly. Not giving a fuck about what they thought, I continued. “I’m not her brother. I’m at most a trusted close friend. I mean, I can get married to your sister if…” “What are you saying?” Tim chipped in. “Marry who?” I looked away. Rylan eyes moved from me and then to Tim and back to me. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing. “I’m just saying. You were making it seem like we have the same parents. Like Lyra is some off limits…” “She is very much off limits to you.” Tim looked serious now. I swallowed. Maybe it was not wise to start a fight now. Making both siblings hate me would be an unwise thing to do. Tim took one long glance at me. “Hope you are not thinking of…” his voice trailed off. He laughed and shook his head. “It cannot be. This is Lyra we are talking about. Same Lyra we both looked after when she was just a child.” “Well, Lyra is no longer a child,” Rylan pointed out and Tim glared hard at him. “Stop looking at him like he is wrong.” It was my turn to get a glare. “You’re my Alpha. Yes, but before being my Alpha, you are my best friend and one of our friendship rules is that siblings are off limits.” Rylan rolled his eyes. “Tim, the both of you are no longer eight. You are both grown men and the top two leaders of this pack. Talking about friendship rules is embarrassing.” “Grown men or not, my sister is off limits.” I shrugged. “That is for the Alpha of your pack to decide.” “Wait, what?!” Tim looked like he just saw a ghost and Rylan smirked. Without waiting for them to say anything more, I headed inside while Rylan and Tim bicker outside. What Tim thought did not matter. When I and Lyra get together, he would definitely adapt. “Alpha Kade,” an unfamiliar voice called out and before I knew what was happening someone’s arms were wrapped around my neck and an unfamiliar body was on mine. Without wasting time, I pulled away. “Alpha, don’t tell me that arguing with this blockhead was in vain. How did you move on so fast?” Rylan tsked. “Move on?” Tim sounded like he was in disbelief. “From what exactly? What does Kade have to do with my sister?” The person who had hugged me was a she wolf. And judging from her appearance, I could tell that this was my mother’s doing. She was blonde and blue-eyed. The werewolf community current beauty standards. My mother’s type, because so far, these were the only kind of ladies she tried to match make with me. “Guards!” I thundered. “Seize her.” Her face turned pale. “Kade, what are you doing?” My mother, Selene stepped into the room. “A stranger just came at me. For all I know, she could have harmed the Alpha. And what happens to the threats of an Alpha?” Selene rolled her eyes. “Nobody is touching Elena. Kade stop your games. I brought Elena so you would meet her and get to know her.” “Mom, stop bringing random she-wolves to me. Your son very much knows how to get himself a she-wolf. I mean look at me.” Tim snorted and Rylan chuckled. “What if you get someone I don’t like? I’m picking your Luna.” I arched an eyebrow. “She won’t be your mate. You don’t have to like her. I’m the one who has to like her.” “Bullshit! You should clear your schedule for tomorrow. You and Elena would have the whole day to yourselves alone.” “Mom, I’ve asked you to stop bringing random shewolves to my court.” “Uhmm! Rylan and I have something to check.” Tim grabbed Rylan’s hands. “We will come back later.” And, with that, they both disappeared. Those traitors. “You’re calling Elena a random she-wolf. Elena is no random she-wolf. She is the beloved sister of the Alpha of Duskborne pack, one of the biggest packs in the wereworld. Their strength is in par with ours. This union will bring the two packs closer and it will be good for both packs. Don’t you…” “Mom, stop it. I’m not letting you decide who I should get married to. What if I have someone I love?” “You will unlove her,” she answered in a straight face. You’re not marrying someone I don’t approve of.” “You don’t even know her. You’ve never met her. Why don’t you try to get to know who I am interested in?” “So this ‘she’ is real?” I looked away. Lyra was very much real but things were not very clear now. If she decides to never talk to me again, she will very much be justified. I deserved all the hatred she could give, but I hope she gives me a chance. Lyra deserved the best and since I could not imagine her with any man other than me, I had to be the best for her. And, Lyra’s level of best was hardly something that could happen overnight. “Don’t tell me.” She scoffed. “Does this have anything to do with the return of the Beta’s sister? Kade, you’ve had your fun with her already and you’ve discarded her. Don’t tell me you are going back to your vomit?” I made a fist beside me. Did she just call Lyra vomit? “Let me be clear. I’ll never accept Lyra as a daughter in law. You are marrying Elena and we will both make sure of that.”I woke up feeling unsettled. It was not the kind of feeling that fades when you stretch or turn to the other side of the bed. It sat heavy in my chest, steady and quiet, like a warning I could not name. The court felt different. It was oddly quiet. When I stepped out of my room, the hallway was already awake. Servants moved about with lowered voices. Guards stood straighter when they saw me. No one blocked my path. No one sneered. No one whispered insults loud enough for me to hear. That alone made my skin crawl. This place had never been gentle with me. I walked slowly, taking everything in.Elena was gone. Her presence used to cling to the walls. By now, I should have heard her barking commands and giving me hateful looks. Now there was nothing. No sign that she had ever existed here.Selene was gone too.Since the gathering, no one had seen her. No sharp looks. No calculated smiles. No cold instructions whispered into the ears of the court. And the wolves. They looked at me differe
I sat on the Alpha seat and felt nothing. The hall was too quiet. Everything looked the way it always had, yet it felt wrong. Like the walls were watching me. Like they were waiting for me to say something and I did not know what.“Why is she still here?” I swayed my mother, referring to Elena. The warriors standing at the edges of the hall stiffened. No one answered. They did not need to.She stood near the pillar, dressed in white, her hair perfectly arranged, her eyes soft and hopeful. She smiled when she saw me looking.“My Alpha,” she said gently. “You called for court. I thought I should be present.”I clenched my jaw.“I did not,” I replied. “I called my council. You are not part of it.”Her smile faltered. Before she could speak again, my mother’s voice filled the hall.“Kade,” Selene said calmly as she stepped forward. “You are being rude.”I turned to her slowly.“You invited her,” I said.Selene sighed like I was a child throwing a tantrum. “She is your future Luna. Her pre
The silence lingered after Selene’s sharp voice cut through the hall. I watched Kade’s chest rise and fall as if he were trying to breathe in every memory he had just felt. Then his eyes widened. Slowly. Like something heavy had lifted off him.“I remember,” he said, his voice low. Then louder. “I remember everything.”Selene’s eyes narrowed, her mouth opening to say something. Kade ignored her. His gaze snapped to me. “Lyra, I remember.”My chest tightened. I did not move. I could not yet speak. He stepped closer. “It wasn’t you. It was her.” His jaw tightened, his eyes flashing with anger. “My own mother. She lied to me. She made me hate you. Made me believe that you—” His voice broke. “That you didn’t care. That you were… unworthy of me.”I swallowed. I had expected this moment. Not like this. The words still hit me.“I… I’m so sorry,” he continued, his hands trembling slightly. “For everything I did. For everything I said. For leaving you to deal with her lies. I… I don’t deserve
I woke up with a heavy chest. It felt like something bad was waiting for me, like the day had already decided how it would end and I had no say in it. I lay on my bed for a long time, staring at the ceiling, listening to the faint sounds of the court coming alive.I did not want to see Tim.That thought scared me.Tim had always been my safe place. Loud. Annoying. Protective. The one person who did not look at me like I was fragile. But after what happened in the garden with Kade, everything felt twisted. I had crossed a line alone. Tim did not know. And the guilt sat heavy in my chest.A knock came on my door.My heart dropped.“Lyra,” Tim called out. “Are you awake or should I assume you are pretending to sleep like always?”I closed my eyes briefly. “I’m awake.”The door opened before I could say anything else.He walked in like he owned the place, hands in his pockets, eyes sharp and curious. “You look terrible.”“Good morning to you too,” I replied. He smiled. “Something is wrong
The walk back was quiet.Too quiet.Kade walked beside me with his hands in his pockets, his shoulders tense like he was holding himself together by force. He did not touch me. He did not look at me either. But I could feel him. I hated how aware I was of him.“Are you okay?” I asked eventually. He stopped walking. I stopped too and then he turned to face me slowly. “You planned that, didn’t you?”I swallowed. “Planned what?”“The bridge,” he said. “You planned everything. Selene was right about you.”“I just wanted to take a walk,” I replied.“That’s a lie.”I looked away. “Then why did you follow me?”He did not answer. For a moment, I thought he would get angry. That sharp anger he carried so well these days. But instead, his shoulders sagged a little.“I felt the need to,” he said quietly. “And I hate that I did.”My heart twisted.“You looked shocked,” I said.“I was,” he replied. “I still am.” He rubbed his face with his hand. “I don’t like surprises.”“You used to,” I said befo
Tim knocked on my door like he owned the place. My heart dropped instantly. I froze where I was standing, one hand still holding my brush, the other resting uselessly by my side. For a second, I considered pretending I was not inside. But Tim knew my routine too well. He knew I was always in by this time.“Lyra,” he called from outside. “I know you’re in there.”I closed my eyes and sighed. So much for avoiding him. I walked to the door and opened it slowly.Tim stood there with his usual relaxed look, one eyebrow slightly raised, lips curved in that smug smile that always meant trouble.“You took your time,” he said.“I was busy,” I replied.“Doing what,” he asked, stepping into the room without waiting for permission.I shut the door behind him. “Thinking.” I rolled my eyes. “What do you want, Tim?”He turned around and looked at me properly. His smile faded just a little. “What’s wrong with you?”“Nothing,” I said quickly.“That’s a lie.”I crossed my arms. “Why are you here?”“To
