CLARA'S POV
I was a bit nervous. Yes. To be fair, everything had happened so fast that I'd barely had the chance to settle into this new role I was to play. It all still felt like a dream; that I had married Edward, that I would soon be the Luna of a powerful pack. All in less than a week. Sometimes, I pinched myself to know if it was real. The glint of the diamond ring on my finger was real enough. As I looked at it, I thought of Edward. If someone had told me in high school that I would marry Edward Sterling, I would have called them mad. We were the most unlikely match to ever grace the earth. I wouldn't even have believed that he would ever look my way. My cheeks warmed at the memory of the huge crush I'd had on him in high school. I had written several letters to him back then, and he had turned me down. Yet, he stuck by my side; defending me at every turn and protecting me from bullies. Now he was helping me again to get my revenge on Nate, my ex-husband. I leaned closer to the window to have a better look at the cars of dignitaries that had begun trooping into the estate for Edward's coronation ceremony. It was a sight to behold, truly. I wondered briefly if Nate had arrived already. I knew he must have seen the news by now, and while I knew he would not be very happy to see me, I also knew that he didn't have a choice. Being a Beta, he didn't exactly have a choice. His attendance was law. I felt goosebumps spread over my skin at the thought of seeing Nate again. I couldn't tell if the tightness in my chest was from pain or anger, and my mind was too foggy to analyze that right now. I struggled to inhale and exhale until the tightness in my chest released. Just then, the door swung open and I saw Edward walk in. My stomach churned at the sight of him, and I let my eyes rake over him. His expression was stoic, as I'd come to learn was his default look. He wasn't unkind, he just did not smile as often as he used to as a teenager. It was weird seeing how much he had grown. His features were sharper now, he had also gotten manlier, and there was a certain coldness in his eyes that made him terrifying yet honorable. It was a difficult task trying to place the man in front of me with a teenage boy I'd grown up with. I let my eyes trail down to the suit he was clad in, blue to match the color of his Pack's insignia. He looked clean and smelled of luxury. The Patek Philippe watch on his wrist could not be missed either. "The guests have all arrived," he said. "The ceremony will start soon." "Are you nervous?" I asked, rubbing my palms. "Not in the least. I have lived through scarier days." I exhaled in a rush. "Well, I am, especially of seeing Nate again." I admitted. "You shouldn't be. When you see him, look him dead in the eye and think of only one thing; bringing him to his knees because that's what you're going to do." Edward told me. I nodded. Edward held out a hand. I put mine in his. Together we walked out the door, down a long flight of stairs to the great hall where our guests were waiting. The ceremony started with a speech from the oldest council member of Blue Moon pack. About five minutes in, I spotted Nate in the crowd, with Isla clinging to him. I didn't even need to look for him because I could feel his eyes glued on me. Isla was staring enviously at my dress, while Nate was gritting his teeth in anger. I felt his gaze even when I looked away. And then it was time. "And I crown you, Edward Sterling, Alpha of Bluemoon Pack." "And I crown you, Clara Sterling, Luna of Bluemoon Pack." The crowd erupted into cheers as we both rose to our feet. "Now the new Alpha and Luna will make their first decrees," said the officiator. He bowed to Edward who stepped forward confidently. "I decree that all underage children on the streets will be enrolled in the special schools I have built all over the territory." There was applause and cries of 'Long live the Alpha!" Then it was my turn. After hours spent thinking about my first decree, I had the perfect one. I let the tension in the room build up as I took the stage. Looking right at Nate, I said, "There will be mandatory quality inspections for all manufacturing companies in the territory. Companies who don't pass the inspection will have their licenses revoked and will also pay compensation to the victims of their fraud." I paused again for effect. "That is my decree." People clapped. And cheered. Everyone except Nate. Nate first went white, then purple with rage. He looked like he was going to explode any minute now. That was exactly why I had made this decree. I knew it was going to affect him more than anyone here. I knew all about his shady business deals. Many times in the past he had been accused of using substandard materials to manufacture cars. I had tried to talk to him about it while we were married, but he consistently shut me out, insisting that business was all about profit. All my pleas fell on deaf ears. Since he had refused to take my advice, I would gladly use it against him. My vengeance had begun, and I wanted to start by hitting him where it would hurt the most; his company. I would personally conduct the inspection in his company and write him off for defaulting with immediate effect. I hid a smile, already anticipating the satisfaction that would bring me. With the important part of the event concluded, the ceremony morphed into a party. Guests chatted, mingled, consumed food and wine. I got congratulated by a lot of people I didn't know. When I could, I excused myself to adjust my dress. It was a beautiful dress, but with a ridiculously long train that was hard to carry around. I nipped into a bathroom, adjusted my gown, and touched up my lipstick. As I headed for to the hall, I almost bumped into someone turning the corner. I looked up to see Nate. For a minute, I couldn’t move. I started to remember everything. I remembered it like it was yesterday; him shoving me until I fell, me bleeding out on the sidewalk. The pain of those memories hadn't left. It punched a hole through my gut. It took everything to keep my expression blank but I did it. I started to walk past him but he stepped directly into my path. "And where the hell do you think you're going?" he said in a deathly quiet voice. "Step aside." My voice wasn't shaky. Good. "I'm Blue Moon's Luna now so I'll advise you to be very careful how you speak to me." He laughed. "Luna? You call yourself a Luna? My dear Clara, a pig with lipstick on and fancy clothes and a crown is still... a stinking pig!" He jerked his thumb in the direction of the hall. I could still hear the music and laughter but it was muted by Nate's voice and the blood rushing my head. "To those fools out there, you may be something. But to me, you will always be the stupid, worthless ex-wife that I picked up from the gutters where you belong." Anger. Before I could stop myself, I slapped him so hard. WHACK!CLARA’S POVI was so blinded by anger that I didn't realise I'd slapped Nate until he jerked backwards and clutched his chin with his hand. His eyes bulged as he stared at me in obvious shock and disbelief."How dare you?!" He growled, walking towards me angrily. "Are you out of your goddamn mind?!"I stood my ground, unmoved by the tantrum he was throwing now. With my head held high, I closed the distance between us. "You don't get to speak to me like that anymore. I’m no longer your wife, so watch your mouth.”He let out another growl, lifting his hand high at the same time and swinging it forward to slap me. But before he could succeed, someone grabbed his hand, stopping him at the last second. I whipped around to see Edward gripping Nate's hand in the air, the expression on his face the very definition of fury."How dare you try to slap her?" Edward thundered. At the same time, several bodyguards surrounded us, and I could feel eyes on us from all over the place. Edward and Nate w
CLARA’S POVI exhaled softly as my driver pulled into the car park of Bennet’s Drive, Nate’s automotive manufacturing company. All the inspections I’d done today had gone very smoothly, but I’d been anticipating this one with some excitement, mainly because it was my first step in getting revenge on Nate.As the car came to a stop, my bodyguards alighted and opened the car door for me to step out. My personal assistant, Miss Lydia, fell in step beside me as we made our way down to the entrance. “Bennet’s Drive is the last company on our list today, ma’am,” she said. I nodded, already aware of that, and headed straight to reception. The employees seemed to have anticipated my arrival because they fell into a seemingly rehearsed bow of respect as they greeted me.Right after, the receptionist dialled a line on the phone, and I heard her whisper, “She’s here”. But I made no indication to show that I’d heard her.It was routine to wait until I was led up to the CEO’s office. So, I waited.
NATE’S POVMy blood boiled over with rage as I stared at Clara. All I wanted to do right now was smash her head into a wall as hard as I could till she bled. How dare she do this to me?This was not Clara I knew. She seemed to have sprouted audacity and arrogance overnight, which I knew was because of her marriage to Edward. But still, that was no reason for her to dare step foot in here and try to humiliate me in front of my board members.Yes, I'd imported low-grade materials. Yes, I manipulated the records to cover it up. But who did this bitch think she was to attempt to expose me? And to think she was doing it all with a conceited smile on her stupid face. The only reason she was aware of this in the first place was because she'd known about my dealings when we were married, and like the goody two shoes she was, she'd asked me to stop.It was even more irritating because she had absolutely no idea what it took to run a company. All she did was sit on her ass and run her mouth abo
CLARA’S POV"Ma’am, I think you should let me teach them a lesson next time," Lydia said as we settled in the back seat of the car.Her words were so unexpected that it made me chuckle. She looked genuinely upset, and I understood why. Nate and Isla were an irritatingly annoying pair that could get on anyone's nerves. Even I wanted to teach them a lesson, not to talk of someone who didn't know them very well.I shook my head. "That's fine, Lydia. I can handle Nate quite easily. That's not a problem."I had been married to the bastard, so if anyone knew him through and through, it was me. I knew the kind of things that pissed him off, I knew he had a fragile ego, and I knew just how to poke it. That was his weakness. Nate was too arrogant to believe that anyone could ever match up to him, and that was my strength. I already knew he would underestimate me, and that was why I would use it to my advantage and burn him to the ground. "Yes, of course, ma'am,” Lydia said, snapping me b
EDWARD’S POV"What are you trying to say?" I asked the council member who had just spoken. My eyes were narrowed as I stared at him, refusing to believe the words that had just come out of his mouth."I-I..I said you will have to produce a child within a year of being Alpha, otherwise your cousin can challenge you for the position."I slammed my hand against the desk in anger, rising to my feet. I couldn't believe this shit. What the fuck were they suddenly saying? Where did this alter to the rules suddenly come from?"What do you mean by that?” I asked him. “I am not blind, and I remember reading that will thoroughly. The only requirement to be Alpha was to get married, wasn’t it?”They all nodded. "Yes, Alpha. You are not wrong. But this…this is our basic law. Alphas of other small packs are given three years to produce a child, but you are only given a year as the Alpha of the territory. That is how it has always been."No way.I sighed and released a shaky breath in an attempt to
CLARA'S POV"What the hell were you thinking?!" Edward was yelling, the expression on his face the very definition of fury.I crouched deeper into the blanket I was wrapped in, still shivering as I slowly sipped on the hot tea I'd been served. I couldn't look him in the eyes, because I was scared to see the anger I knew was shining in them. My entire body ached from walking around that thick forest searching for a way out. Edward hadn't said anything to me when he rescued me, but the moment I was treated and my health proved to be in good condition by the doctor, he descended on me.I had nothing to say, no words to defend myself with, because I knew he was right to be angry. In the corner of the room, Lydia was sobbing violently, her arms wrapped around herself as she begged Edward. "P-Please Alpha Edward…please punish me instead. It's my fault that the Luna was almost harmed. I was too careless, I should have insisted on following her when she left the car.""That's enough," Edward
EDWARD’S POV"You asked to see me, Edward," Jaxon said as he walked into my office, bowing in greeting.I nodded, motioning him to the chair across mine. "You may sit." He obeyed."You may have seen or heard about the news circulating through several packs about my wife." I said. "Yes, I have.” He leaned forward. “Just a few minutes ago I was wondering what you planned to do concerning these rumors. They are quite vulgar. And although I know they are false, I still think something needs to be done about them."I leaned back and smiled. This was one of the reasons why I made Jaxon my Beta. He was smart and sharp, knowing exactly what to do and being able to differentiate right from wrong. "Good. That is why I asked to see you. Do you know which particular news network broadcasted these lies?""I do. I already instructed my secretary to prepare a list, and so far, the only networks are: Break News, Sky News, and Al Blue News."I nodded. "I will use them as perfect examples, so that nex
CLARA’S POV "Isn't that Beta Jaxon's driver?" Lydia asked, pushing her face to the window as she pointed at the car in the distance. We were seated in my car en route to Al Blue News office building. I turned to see who she was referring to. The car she motioned to was driving out of the building as we spoke, but I knew nothing of Beta Jaxon's driver, so I couldn't really say anything about it. "I think you might be mistaken," I told her. "What would a member of our pack be doing here?" Lydia craned her neck further out the window, eager to confirm. When she pulled back into the car, she faced me and shook her head. "I am a hundred percent sure that's him. He used to work for the Alpha before as well. I could recognize him anywhere." I didn't want to dwell on a random person right now. Plus, we were here for a reason, and I didn't want us to get distracted. "Whether it's him or not, that's not important. We are here for important business. Just forget about that. Let's
Clara’s POVI let out a deep sigh, placing both hands on my waist in a tired stance.I was taking a walk with Edward, and as much as I used to enjoy doing this with him, I honestly couldn’t say the same now.I was completely exhausted. But he couldn’t even tell…“Come on,” he urged, trying to take the hand on my waist.I sighed again, reaching up to push back my hair. “I’m pregnant, Edward,” I rasped out, spreading my palms, “unlike you. So I don’t expect you to understand what it's like walking miles, whilst having a baby in your womb. It’s not freaking easy.”“You’re right,” he replied, a small smile staining his lips. “That’s why you have me, to help you.”He reached down again and gently took my hand in his, guiding me forward. “We still have to get to that hill, remember?”Sighing, I let him guide me, taking slow, painstaking steps towards the direction he guided me, until the hill came into sight. Finally, we got to the hill, and I let out a deep breath, appreciating the feel of
Nate’s POV I glanced over at the ginger-haired woman with an average bump, my jaw ticking as I contemplated if she was the right fit for the job. No—if she could execute the plan the way to my satisfaction. I cleared my throat loudly, drawing her attention. “So,” I started, “let’s go over the plan one more time.” She nodded, turning to me. “First off,” I pulled up my sleeves, counting off on my fingers, “you barge into any news network and demand to have an interview. Now, why do we need an interview?” I spread my palms, “to expose me,” I added almost immediately, in response to my question, as I pointed at my chest. She nodded, following closely. “When an interview is granted,” I continued, “you’ll claim to be carrying my child, and I’ve been sending just $10,000 monthly, for support.” “Obviously,” I scoffed, “the amount is outrageous already, and people would think you’re just being selfish, but that’s not the point here.” “The point is,” I drew closer, “to show that I have

Clara’s POV Henry and I stared at each other for what felt like forever, my eyes burning with anger, his full of something else. Maybe surprise that I wanted to see him. Finally, he sighed, leaning back with a shrug. “Fine. I’ll tell you, since you’re so desperate to know.” I couldn’t help the small sigh of satisfaction that slipped from me as I leaned back in my seat, folding my arms. “I’m all ears.” “But first,” he said, smiling, “Why are you so covered up?” He raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Let me guess, you don’t want to be seen with me?” I shot him a glare, my lips pressing into a tight line. “That’s not important right now.” He shrugged again, biting back a laugh. He signaled the waitress, ordering an iced coffee and a bagel, then leaned forward, clasping his hands on the desk. I watched him, trying to decide if I could trust anything that came from the mouth of someone so… off. There was something unsettling about him with each se
CLARA’S POV A rush of adrenaline coursed through my veins. My eyes flew open, and I could feel something stirring deep inside me: a soft, steady thumping. Was that… my wolf? Lying against Edward’s chest, I lifted my fingers to my neck, gently caressing the bite mark. Then my hand drifted to my chest, pausing over my heart, feeling the pulse beneath my skin. Yes… that was truly my wolf. “Clara…” A faint, almost whispering voice called to me, and I jolted upright, clutching my chest as my heart hammered wildly. Was that her voice? Edward stirred beside me, his gaze sharp and cautious as he watched me. “Is everything okay?” I nodded shakily, rubbing my palms against my chest to steady myself. “Yeah, I… I think I just heard my wolf’s voice.” My words were breathless, disbelief still clinging to them. Edward’s eyes widened, and he quickly propped himself up. His hand gently covered mine, his touch warm and comforting. “And I think I can feel her too,” I added, my voice barely a
CLARA’S POV I leaned against the balcony railing, looking down at the patio below. For a brunch we’d thrown together just days ago, the turnout was incredible. Like Lydia suggested, I had to put myself out there before launching my company and the first step was this brunch for women in business. Lydia had sent out invitations and they’d shown up in numbers. More than I expected. More than I could have hoped for. I was impressed and grateful. And, if I was being honest, a little on edge. The patio was packed with at least two hundred women, maybe more, each one a business owner from different packs. Soft music drifted from the speakers, mingling with the low hum of conversation. On one side, rows of neatly arranged tables stretched out, white cloths draped over them, wine glasses catching the sunlight. The whole setup looked… perfect. I ran a hand over my dress, taking in the scene when Lydia’s voice suddenly cut through my thoughts. “Luna,” she said from behind me,

NATE’S POV I got home late, the weight of the day still hanging off my shoulders. Amanda’s arrival had gone smoother than I expected, and now it was time to deal with the loose ends. One, in particular, had overstayed her welcome. Isla. She was on the couch, curled up like she owned the place, watching TV and eating grapes. As if she wasn’t the biggest disappointment of the year. I didn’t wait for her to notice I was home. “You’re done,” I said flatly as soon as I entered. She looked up at me, confused for half a second. “What?” And then, like she suddenly remembered I was just coming back, she stood up, drawing close to me. “You’re late today. Work must have been stressful.” She moved to touch my face but I hit her hand away. “You’re leaving tonight.” I told her firmly, trying not to sound irritated as I felt. “You failed to do the one thing I kept you here for. You’re useless now.” She paused, as if trying to make sense of what I said. “Excuse me?” “You couldn’t
EDWARD’S POV Just as more emergency vehicles were pulling into the hospital wing of the Estate, I rushed in through the main entrance, feeling even more frustrated. I hurried into the wing, my eyes quickly catching the panic in the air. I looked around the hallways, filled with people groaning on both my left and right. Most of them were throwing up badly, dropping to their knees. It was complete chaos in here. I saw some doctors and nurses helping the poisoned victims who were too weak to move, guiding them into the wards. As I moved quickly through the hallways, I noticed almost every ward was packed full of sick people. This was horrible. What made it even more disturbing and upsetting was that most of the people vomiting so terribly were important figures in the territory—Alphas and Lunas of high ranks. I shook my head at the sight, my fingers curling into fists at my sides, wanting nothing more than to catch whoever was behind this. Even while I was worried ab
