Chapter 3

مؤلف: Tea Everywhere
Rebecca's POV

I got to my feet, ready to slap Margherita across the face, but Niccolo grabbed my wrist before I could. Everyone stared at me like I was their sworn enemy.

Jacopo was still sobbing hysterically in Margherita's arms. "She's bad! I don't want to see her!"

Niccolo grabbed me and shoved me toward the front door. "Jacopo's scared of you. Just leave for now. We can't have him crying like this."

I could barely steady myself and walk out on my own when he had already pushed me outside. I hadn't had time to react before the door slammed shut in my face, cutting me off from the festivity inside.

A drizzle was falling from the sky. I was about to drive away when I realized my car key was inside. I turned around and knocked on the door, but all I got in return was a barrage of insults.

"Look at her! She's been kicked out, yet she's still begging to be humiliated! Is she determined to scare Jacopo half to death?"

"Give me my car key!" I shouted through the door.

Niccolo's voice came from inside. "Jacopo's upset. I can't let him be triggered again. I'm not opening the door. Figure out how to get home yourself."

My hand slowly dropped from the door. The rain outside grew heavier, and it felt as though my heart was being soaked through with it.

By the time I finally got a ride, I was drenched from head to toe. I wrapped my arms around myself, shivering uncontrollably.

Then the hospital called. "Hello, Ms. Gallo. The special medication you ordered has arrived. When would you like to pick it up?"

There were two reasons Ivano recovered so quickly after surgery. One was the careful attention I had given him. The other was this very medication.

He might look fine now, but in reality, his condition was heavily reliant on this drug.

It was highly effective, but production was extremely limited while demand was enormous. Not only was it expensive, but patients also had to wait in line to get their hands on it.

I had gone out of my way to use my connections at the hospital to get Ivano on the medication as soon as possible. Without my connections, he might've had to wait another two years or more before it was his turn.

"I won't be picking it up anymore. Give it to someone else who needs it."

I asked the driver to turn the air conditioning up to the highest temperature. Seeing how drenched I was, he kindly handed me a blanket. I finally began to feel a little warmer.

I sent Nathan a message. "It's completely over between Niccolo and me."

He replied promptly, "I figured as much. Otherwise, you wouldn't have agreed to be with me."

"Doesn't it bother you?"

"I pursued you, which means I'm willing to accept every part of you, no questions asked. That piece of trash was never good enough for you in the first place."

My palms grew slightly damp as I held my phone.

"Let's get married in three days. I'll bring all my connections and resources with me."

"Okay. See you outside the city hall in three days."

I put my phone away and finally had time to rest.

Three days later was supposed to be the day Niccolo and I finally got married, but now, he was having a child with another woman, and I was marrying someone else. Fair was fair.

Unfortunately, my sleep didn't last long. The moment I closed my eyes, Niccolo called. He launched into a tirade as soon as I answered.

"Rebecca, your tantrum today gave Papa such a headache that he's still in agony now. You ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful Christmas Eve! And Jacopo has been crying ever since you knocked him over. He doesn't feel safe."

He continued, "To make it up to him and help him feel more secure, I've decided that Margherita and I will be getting married instead in three days. So, don't bother showing up."

Honestly, whatever. I was getting married in three days, too, anyway.

"Sure," I replied casually.

Niccolo fell silent for a moment, clearly caught off guard. Then he continued, "This is also your chance to make up for what you did. You'd better not have any more objections."

"I don't," I said calmly.

By then, I had arrived home.

Rebecca's POVAfter the Invernizzi family's last casino was shut down, the family could barely keep up with its day-to-day expenses. With no other options, Niccolo had to disband his men.The once-struggling small family was now completely ruined by its Don. Even their only home was seized to pay off their debts.Niccolo still found me in the end.I had just finished settling a dispute within the Rinaldi family and was about to head home to pack my bags. Nathan and I were leaving for a vacation the next day. That was when he showed up.Niccolo blocked my way home. He looked as though he hadn't showered in days. His beard had grown long and scraggly, with dark circles beneath his eyes. He looked almost lifeless."Rebecca, I messed up."Seeing the once-arrogant Don reduced to such a pathetic state, I couldn't help finding the situation rather amusing.I folded my arms and looked at him steadily. "Oh? And what exactly did our esteemed Don do wrong?"My tone caught him off guard,

Third-Person POVNiccolo gave Ivano the medication and called in a doctor to examine him. Alas, no miracle happened. The doctor explained that because Ivano had gone without the medication for too long, most of his nerves had already suffered irreversible damage. He might regain some function with time and probably speak again without much difficulty, but walking normally like he used to was no longer possible.Anna flew into a rage. "I worked myself to the bone taking care of him all this time, and you're telling me I'll have to keep doing it after this? If he can't be cured, what the hell did I hire you for?"The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. When Rebecca Gallo had been in charge of Ivano's care, there had never been this much trouble. She kicked over the stool beside her. "Call Rebecca right now and get her back here! All Margherita does is spend your money and throw it around, using her title as Donna to show off everywhere."Once she comes home, you're

Rebecca's POVI suddenly regretted answering the call. My fingers tightened around the phone until my knuckles turned white.Fighting back the tremor in my voice, I slowly piped up. "Last time I checked, you're still my brother. Instead of standing by your sister, you're siding with an outsider and cursing me out. I've wasted all those years raising you."He ignored everything I said and continued barking, "What gives you the right to cut off Ivano's medication without warning? You know damn well that it'll cost him his life! What you're doing is no different from murder!"I scoffed. "If I hadn't taken such good care of him and pulled strings to get him the medication he needed, he wouldn't have had a chance of getting back on his feet over the past three years!"All I'm doing now is refusing to give him special treatment anymore. If he wants the special medication, he can buy it himself."As my brother, you helped Niccolo cover up his affair and hide the fact that he'd had a thr

Rebecca's POVNathan took me back to his home. He showed me all the resources he had promised me, one by one. The Rinaldi family was far more powerful than I had imagined.Compared to their assets, the resources I had brought with me seemed almost insignificant. Ironically, those resources already accounted for more than half of the Invernizzi family's entire fortune.Just as I was about to start organizing my assets, Niccolo called. I stared at his name on my phone and didn't answer.Nathan glanced at the screen and said, "You can answer if you want to, so long as it helps you get closure."I declined the call and blocked Niccolo without a second thought. Still, he was persistent. He called me from seven different numbers in a row. In the end, I had no choice but to answer. The moment the call connected, Niccolo's furious roar blasted through the speaker."Rebecca, why the hell would you stop Papa's medication? That medicine is a specialized treatment for paralysis! Not even mo

Rebecca's POVNathan got out of the car and walked over, pulling me into his arms.He swept his gaze over the crowd and said calmly, "You came from nothing but some second-rate family, and you think you can tell my wife to get lost?""Your wife?"Niccolo was confused. He repeated the word under his breath, then seemed to have finally processed what Nathan had said. His expression darkened with anger."I dare you to say that again."Nathan had already taken out our marriage certificate. He held it up for everyone to see. "I'm her lawfully wedded husband."Niccolo's face went pale. Even Margherita was too stunned to speak.Meanwhile, the crowd gathered around us grew larger by the second.Niccolo looked at me in disbelief. "Rebecca, you're my girlfriend. How could you marry another man? Have you no shame?"Margherita quickly jumped in. "What you're doing is cheating! You were still Niccolo's girlfriend when you married another man!"Everyone, look at this! She's getting marrie

Rebecca's POVNiccolo sounded surprised. "You don't? Aren't you upset?"I smiled. "You make a good point. This will help build the child's confidence. It really is what's best for him."He sighed in relief. "I'm glad you understand. We'll still have our wedding together, just as planned. As far as outsiders are concerned, you're the only woman who'll ever be the Donna. It doesn't matter whose name is on the marriage certificate."I finally made it home and settled comfortably onto the couch, listening as he continued."And one more thing. Jacopo says he wants to be my only child. I've thought about it, and honestly, that might be for the best. It'll save us from inheritance disputes down the road, and you won't have to go through the pain of childbirth."From now on, just treat Jacopo as your own son. He's a smart kid. We'll leave our empire to him, and I'm sure he'll double its value one day."I gave a scornful smile, though unfortunately, he couldn't see it.More than half of
