Felicya panicked upon hearing Alexa’s words. Her eyes darted to the side before returning to Alexa.

“We’re actually not that close. It’s just that earlier … earlier .…” Felicya stammered. “Oh right, earlier Ronan called me. At first, he asked whether it was true that you were moving to Father’s company, and that’s when I found out you had resigned.”

One corner of Alexa’s lips curved slightly at Felicya’s explanation. Truly hypocritical and disgusting.

Without responding to Felicya’s explanation, Alexa turned on her heel and headed toward her room. However, before completely leaving Felicya behind, Alexa glanced back at her and said, “Oh, by the way, I’ll be staying at my apartment until the day of my engagement to Ronan.”

“Father won’t be looking for me anyway, so there’s no need to tell him.”

After finishing her words, Alexa walked away, leaving Felicya behind.

Meanwhile, Felicya narrowed her eyes suspiciously. She sensed something different about Alexa’s attitude.

Driving away from the Ivander residence, Alexa’s car headed toward Devan’s luxurious mansion.

After passing through the large gates, the car entered the mansion grounds and stopped in front of the garage.

Just as Alexa was unfastening her seat belt, the car door was opened by a servant standing beside the vehicle.

“Welcome, Miss.”

Alexa’s gaze fell on the elderly man who greeted her warmly. His gentle smile made Alexa smile as well.

“Thank you,” Alexa replied.

After stepping out of the car, Alexa stood facing the elderly servant, while several other servants immediately took her belongings inside.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Thomas—the head butler of this mansion. Mr. Devan has already informed me of what I should do.”

Hearing Thomas’s words, Alexa nodded slowly.

“Please, I’ll escort you to your room,” Thomas said.

Once again, Alexa nodded and followed Thomas, who had already begun walking ahead.

As soon as she entered the mansion, Alexa’s eyes were treated to the sight of its luxurious interior. She had to admit that her father’s house—and even Ronan’s family home—were nowhere near this grand.

As she climbed the stairs, Alexa continued to explore every part of the mansion with her eyes, taking in every detail. She didn’t even realize that she had arrived in front of a large door adorned with luxurious carvings.

Thomas stopped and stood facing Alexa in front of the door.

“Miss, this is Mr. Devan’s bedroom. Please go in and have a good rest.”

Alexa froze upon hearing Thomas’s words. After the elderly man left, her gaze fixed on the large door to her left.

So, she had to share a room with the man she was supposed to call her uncle?

Alexa let out a soft breath. She truly had to accept the fact that her status had now changed.

Her fingers grasped the doorknob and gently turned it before she slowly pushed the door open. As soon as her eyes fell on the inside of the room, Alexa was once again amazed by the interior.

Stepping into the room, her gaze wandered over every corner of the elegant space.

“He really loves art. Everything is classy, neat, and beautiful,” Alexa murmured, unconsciously letting the corners of her lips lift slightly.

**

That afternoon.

Alexa sat there, her gaze drifting into the distance, recalling all the pain caused by the man she had trusted for so many years.

Ronan—not only the man who had given her hope, but also the man who had made her truly cherish her life.

Yet it turned out that everything was merely an act. Ronan preferred Felicya and had only been using Alexa.

How pitiful.

Alexa looked down at her phone. A faint smile mixed with pain appeared on her face.

“Just wait and see, Ronan. Will my gift truly shock you and make you happy?”

While Alexa was still staring at her phone, she heard the sound of a door opening, making her turn quickly toward it.

Her gaze landed on that ice-cold face, causing her to freeze once more when her eyes met Devan’s.

Swallowing hard as Devan walked past where she was sitting without a word, Alexa finally stood up and greeted him, “You just got home.”

When she saw Devan stop in his tracks, Alexa’s body stiffened. The man turned around to face her, his dagger-sharp gaze piercing straight into her chest.

Devan stepped toward where Alexa was standing, his eyes never leaving her face.

As for Alexa, she couldn’t move from where she stood. Her eyes followed Devan as he continued to close the distance between them, until she could smell the musky scent emanating from the strong body standing in front of her.

“Were you waiting for me?” Devan’s voice sounded cold and deep.

Alexa bit her lower lip as she saw Devan raise his hand in front of her face. His gaze remained fixed on her, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably.

“Th-this isn’t what you think,” Alexa blurted out in panic, the words slipping from her lips without control.

Devan stood beside Alexa, gently placing a hand on his wife's shoulder before turning his gaze toward Franklin, who lay weakly on the bed."There is no problem," Devan said calmly."But there is good news," Devan added. "Our team has found Olivia and Felicya."Hearing the names of his wife and daughter mentioned, Franklin's chest immediately tightened."T-They... where are they now, Devan?"Devan looked at Franklin expressionlessly. Then he explained, "Olivia has been successfully captured by my men while hiding in a motel. She is currently being held at the police station to undergo legal proceedings for the assault and attempted murder against you."Franklin let out a fragile sigh of relief, but confusion still lingered in his eyes."Then... Felicya? What about Felicya?"Devan fell silent, glancing at Alexa, who was also waiting for him to continue with a curious expression.Devan exhaled heavily before speaking again."Felicya panicked during the raid," Devan said without changing

His body was still weak, but his consciousness was much clearer than it had been that morning."Alexa..." Franklin called softly, breaking the silence.Alexa turned toward him, her expression unchanged."Yes?""I... I want to apologize once again," Franklin said, his lips trembling. "I know that saying I'm sorry will never be enough to erase all the wounds I've inflicted on your heart over all these years."Alexa let out a long sigh. She adjusted her posture and looked directly into Franklin's eyes with a firm gaze, although a trace of pity struggled to break through the walls

The next morning.Morning arrived under somewhat overcast skies. After finishing breakfast with barely a word exchanged, Devan held Alexa’s hand and led her toward the car. They had only one destination: the hospital where Franklin was being treated.Alexa walked with her emotions still in turmoil, but Devan’s firm grip on her fingers was the only thing giving her strength.Upon arriving at the hospital, Devan and Alexa immediately headed to the third floor.Franklin’s condition was reported to have passed the critical stage, and he had been transferred from the ICU to a regular intensive care ward. Two bodyguards in black suits stood firmly in front of the door, immediately bowing when they saw Devan and Alexa arrive.Devan slowly pushed the door open. Alexa remained frozen in place. An oppressive silence suddenly crept through the family room. There were no hysterical screams, no tears immediately streaming down her cheeks.Instead, her beautiful face looked unusually calm—a calmness so faint that it felt strange.Devan anxiously observed every change in his wife’s expression. He rubbed Alexa’s fingers, which felt increasingly cold as ice. “Alexa, do you want to go to the hospital now to see him?”Alexa remained silent for a moment, staring blankly ahead before finally shaking her head slowly. Her voice came out completely flat. “It’s still too late at night, Devan. The ICU visiting hours won’t allow anyone to enter right now. It’s better to go later, during morning visiting hours.”Devan nodded slowly, agreeing with her rational consideration. However, before he could say anything else, Alexa turned her face toward him and stared at the thin bandage on Devan’s temple.“You haven’t fully recovered yet, and you didn’t sleep last nig
