LOGINSitting inside the car parked in front of the civil registry office, holding her marriage certificate, Alexa still could not believe it. She was truly married to Devan, a man eleven years older than her.
Without her father’s knowledge, and without anyone else knowing.
“From now on, you are my wife, and also my spokesperson when meeting clients.”
That firm, deep voice pierced her ears. When Alexa turned her head to look at Devan, she could only nod slowly.
“Do you need me to take you home to pack your things?”
Whether it was an offer or merely a question, Alexa felt that Devan’s words were nothing more than a formality laced with mockery.
“I’ll go home by myself.” Avoiding Devan’s gaze, Alexa continued, “Don’t worry, I won’t run away either.”
“It’s better if you know your place.”
Hearing Devan’s words, for some reason, the sentence stabbed painfully at her chest.
As the car began to move, the phone inside Alexa’s bag kept ringing, breaking the silence in the car.
When Alexa saw the name displayed on the screen, her face darkened and her jaw tightened. Even so, she answered the call.
“Hello.”
“Alexa, what does this mean? Why did you suddenly resign? And … your reason is because you’re going to work at your father’s company? Is this a joke?”
With an expressionless face as she listened to all of Ronan’s words, Alexa replied calmly, “It’s not a joke.”
“Then what about the cooperation with Mr. John?”
A faint sneer appeared on Alexa’s lips. It was easy to guess—what Ronan cared about was only business.
“Don’t worry. I’ll still take care of it. See you on the day of our engagement, Ronan.”
Alexa immediately ended the call after speaking. When she turned to look at Devan, she saw his cold expression.
“About our marriage, could we keep it secret for now? At least until the day of my engagement to Ronan,” Alexa said seriously. To be honest, she was afraid Devan would inform the Alistair family before she could carry out her plan.
Devan looked away from Alexa without responding. Still wearing his cold expression, he said, “I don’t like you talking to another man when you’re with me. So next time, I hope you remember that.”
Alexa pressed her lips together.
“And one more thing. From now on, don’t address me formally. Only do that outside, in front of others, when you’re hiding our marriage.”
There was no rebuttal. Alexa simply nodded slowly.

Alexa returned to her father’s residence after finishing her business with Devan. She only intended to take some of her clothes; her departure would not be questioned by her family.
No one cared about her.
“Alexa.”
The voice, so disgusting to Alexa’s ears, made her stop in her tracks. When she turned her head to the left, her gaze landed on Felicya, who was walking toward her.
And, as usual, her stepsister wore an angelic expression, attracting everyone’s attention with her fake smile.
Still silent with a cold gaze, Alexa waited until Felicya stood in front of her.
“Alexa, Ronan said you stopped being his assistant. Why?”
Fortunately, Alexa had good self-control. Even though she had hated Felicya long before discovering the affair between Felicya and Ronan, Alexa maintained a calm demeanor.
“Yes, I’ll be getting engaged to him soon. It’s natural that I want to quit, because after we’re married, I’ll focus on taking care of the household,” Alexa said with an unreadable look. “Besides, Ronan’s mother wants grandchildren soon, so I want to focus on my health.”
As she spoke, Alexa observed the slight change in Felicya’s expression.
“Ronan’s mother likes me very much, so I’ll work hard to please her as well.”
Felicya continued to smile, though irritation flickered beneath it as Alexa flaunted herself. “Then why did Ronan say you’re moving to Father’s company?”
“Just an excuse,” Alexa replied calmly. She stepped closer, standing very near Felicya. As she touched a strand of Felicya’s hair, Alexa continued, “You’re that close to Ronan that he told you about my resignation? Is this what they call the relationship between a future sister-in-law and a future sister?”
At the Ivander family's main residence, the morning silence was suddenly shattered by the sharp clink of a spoon striking a porcelain plate.Franklin sat at the head of the dining table, his phone lit up beside his cup of coffee. His aging eyes stared at the screen in disbelief. The next morning. The sun had barely risen when a piece of news shook the entire nation.A major business news outlet released a headline in bold letters:"DEV. Group's Supreme Leader, Devan Alistair, Officially Announces His Marriage to Alexa Ivander, the Young Lady of the Ivander Family."At the Alistair family's main residence, the peaceful breakfast atmosphere suddenly turned gloomy."What does this mean?!" Daniel frowned as he read the news. Devan—his half-brother from the same father but a different mother—had married Alexa, the woman who was supposed to marry his son, Ronan.Martha remained silent as she read the same article on her phone. She was equally shocked. According to the report, Devan and Alexa had been married long before Alexa and Ronan's engagement was called off."How is this possible?" Martha looked utterly incredulous. At that moment, Ronan had just arrived in the dining room. He immediately noticed the tense expressions on his parents' faces.Especially Daniel'
Alexa lowered her gaze to the ring on her finger, tangible proof of the bond she shared with Devan.Yes, perhaps it really was time to make their marriage public—for the benefit of both of them.Slowly, Alexa looked up at Devan. "I don't mind. This is actually what I need right now."One of Devan's brows lifted as he studied the change in Alexa's expression. There was a trace of sorrow in her eyes."What's wrong?" he asked. "Is there another problem?""My mother's will," Alexa replied quietly. She tightened her grip on the edge of the blanket covering her legs and took a deep breath before continuing."My mother left me a considerable inheritance. But there are conditions attached to it."Her gaze grew even more distant."I can only claim the family's main assets in full if I'm legally married or at least have a life partner who is committed to spending the future with me.""And you've been hiding this because you didn't trust anyone?" Devan immediately guessed. His tone was probing b
The bedroom felt unusually quiet, filled only with the faint ticking of the wall clock and Alexa's soft breathing as she finally drifted into sleep.Devan remained seated at the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on his wife's pale face. Alexa's fingers were still loosely wrapped around his wrist, as though she feared that if she let go for even a moment, he would disappear.Devan let out a quiet sigh. With his free hand, he gently brushed a few strands of hair away from Alexa's forehead. A strange warmth lingered in his chest, accompanied by a powerful protective instinct. He silently swore that he would never allow anyone to hurt Alexa again. While he was still watching over her, the phone in his jacket pocket vibrated softly.Moving as carefully as possible so he wouldn't wake her, Devan slowly slipped his wrist from Alexa's grasp. He stood up and walked toward the bedroom balcony. After closing the glass door behind him, he answered the call."Well, Mike?" Devan's voice was calm but
Devan felt Alexa’s body still trembling. He lifted her into his arms.“Clean up all this mess. And find the mastermind behind this ambush.” Devan’s eyes sharpened as he gave orders to the people lying on the asphalt.“Yes, Sir.” Mike nodded in understanding.Alexa remained silent, hiding her face in Devan’s chest when she heard his firm, unquestionable voice.Devan walked toward the car while carrying Alexa. He made sure she sat comfortably. When Devan pulled his hand away, Alexa immediately held onto his wrist.Devan was surprised. He looked at Alexa’s face, which was still pale.“You won’t leave me alone, will you?” Alexa looked at him fearfully.Devan extended one hand. He gently stroked Alexa’s hair.“I won’t. I’m just going to sit in the seat next to you.” Devan gestured with his chin toward the seat beside Alexa.Slowly, Alexa released Devan’s hand. She nodded softly.Devan closed the car door before walking around the car to get into the seat beside Alexa.Once seated next to h
At Ronan’s apartment. Some time earlier.Ronan sat anxiously. He was waiting for news from his men.Until his phone rang. Ronan hurriedly answered the incoming call. One of his legs was crossed, his left arm rested on the back of the sofa, while his other hand held the phone against his ear.“Did you manage to find her?” Ronan’s smile spread perfectly. He could no longer wait for the results of his hired men’s surveillance.“Yes, Sir. We are tailing her now.”Alexa had blocked him and kept avoiding him. So now, Ronan had to act quickly before Alexa slipped out of his reach again.“Capture her, no matter how. I want her in front of me even if it has to be by force,” Ronan ordered.“Yes, Sir. I will carry out your order immediately.”“And remember, if you fail to do it, then never drag my name into this.”The call ended.Ronan took a glass from the table, then gulped down the drink until it was finished.“Don’t blame me for being harsh, Alexa. Blame yourself for daring to lie to me and
