LOGINSitting inside the car parked in front of the civil registry office, holding her marriage certificate, Alexa still could not believe it. She was truly married to Devan, a man eleven years older than her.
Without her father’s knowledge, and without anyone else knowing.
“From now on, you are my wife, and also my spokesperson when meeting clients.”
That firm, deep voice pierced her ears. When Alexa turned her head to look at Devan, she could only nod slowly.
“Do you need me to take you home to pack your things?”
Whether it was an offer or merely a question, Alexa felt that Devan’s words were nothing more than a formality laced with mockery.
“I’ll go home by myself.” Avoiding Devan’s gaze, Alexa continued, “Don’t worry, I won’t run away either.”
“It’s better if you know your place.”
Hearing Devan’s words, for some reason, the sentence stabbed painfully at her chest.
As the car began to move, the phone inside Alexa’s bag kept ringing, breaking the silence in the car.
When Alexa saw the name displayed on the screen, her face darkened and her jaw tightened. Even so, she answered the call.
“Hello.”
“Alexa, what does this mean? Why did you suddenly resign? And … your reason is because you’re going to work at your father’s company? Is this a joke?”
With an expressionless face as she listened to all of Ronan’s words, Alexa replied calmly, “It’s not a joke.”
“Then what about the cooperation with Mr. John?”
A faint sneer appeared on Alexa’s lips. It was easy to guess—what Ronan cared about was only business.
“Don’t worry. I’ll still take care of it. See you on the day of our engagement, Ronan.”
Alexa immediately ended the call after speaking. When she turned to look at Devan, she saw his cold expression.
“About our marriage, could we keep it secret for now? At least until the day of my engagement to Ronan,” Alexa said seriously. To be honest, she was afraid Devan would inform the Alistair family before she could carry out her plan.
Devan looked away from Alexa without responding. Still wearing his cold expression, he said, “I don’t like you talking to another man when you’re with me. So next time, I hope you remember that.”
Alexa pressed her lips together.
“And one more thing. From now on, don’t address me formally. Only do that outside, in front of others, when you’re hiding our marriage.”
There was no rebuttal. Alexa simply nodded slowly.

Alexa returned to her father’s residence after finishing her business with Devan. She only intended to take some of her clothes; her departure would not be questioned by her family.
No one cared about her.
“Alexa.”
The voice, so disgusting to Alexa’s ears, made her stop in her tracks. When she turned her head to the left, her gaze landed on Felicya, who was walking toward her.
And, as usual, her stepsister wore an angelic expression, attracting everyone’s attention with her fake smile.
Still silent with a cold gaze, Alexa waited until Felicya stood in front of her.
“Alexa, Ronan said you stopped being his assistant. Why?”
Fortunately, Alexa had good self-control. Even though she had hated Felicya long before discovering the affair between Felicya and Ronan, Alexa maintained a calm demeanor.
“Yes, I’ll be getting engaged to him soon. It’s natural that I want to quit, because after we’re married, I’ll focus on taking care of the household,” Alexa said with an unreadable look. “Besides, Ronan’s mother wants grandchildren soon, so I want to focus on my health.”
As she spoke, Alexa observed the slight change in Felicya’s expression.
“Ronan’s mother likes me very much, so I’ll work hard to please her as well.”
Felicya continued to smile, though irritation flickered beneath it as Alexa flaunted herself. “Then why did Ronan say you’re moving to Father’s company?”
“Just an excuse,” Alexa replied calmly. She stepped closer, standing very near Felicya. As she touched a strand of Felicya’s hair, Alexa continued, “You’re that close to Ronan that he told you about my resignation? Is this what they call the relationship between a future sister-in-law and a future sister?”
Late afternoon approached as the sun began to set.Devan and Alexa's car finally arrived at the front courtyard of their main residence. The golden glow of the evening sky illuminated the lush and peaceful grounds. However, as the car slowly came to a stop in front of the porch, Devan narrowed his eyes.A man was standing silently beside one of the porch pillars, waiting for their arrival. It was Ronan.Devan immediately stepped out of the car, followed by Alexa.Devan's expression instantly turned cold and protective. He stepped slightly in front of Alexa, positioning himself to protect his wife from any potential disturbance.Seeing his uncle and former fiancée walking side by side, looking so harmonious and affectionate, Ronan now wore a faint smile on his lips—not the sly smile he used to have, but one filled with awareness and genuine defeat. Ronan's appearance was much simpler now, without designer clothes or an arrogant air."Uncle, Alexa..." Ronan called in a calm, low voice.
Devan stood beside Alexa, gently placing a hand on his wife's shoulder before turning his gaze toward Franklin, who lay weakly on the bed."There is no problem," Devan said calmly."But there is good news," Devan added. "Our team has found Olivia and Felicya."Hearing the names of his wife and daughter mentioned, Franklin's chest immediately tightened."T-They... where are they now, Devan?"Devan looked at Franklin expressionlessly. Then he explained, "Olivia has been successfully captured by my men while hiding in a motel. She is currently being held at the police station to undergo legal proceedings for the assault and attempted murder against you."Franklin let out a fragile sigh of relief, but confusion still lingered in his eyes."Then... Felicya? What about Felicya?"Devan fell silent, glancing at Alexa, who was also waiting for him to continue with a curious expression.Devan exhaled heavily before speaking again."Felicya panicked during the raid," Devan said without changing
At the hospital. The atmosphere inside Franklin's hospital room was calmer now, though an undercurrent of tension still lingered. At Devan's instruction, Franklin had been transferred to a more comfortable VIP room.Alexa sat faithfully beside his bed, keeping her father company as he remained connected to various medical monitoring devices.Franklin looked at his biological daughter with deep shame in his eyes. His body was still weak, but his consciousness was much clearer than it had been that morning."Alexa..." Franklin called softly, breaking the silence.Alexa turned toward him, her expression unchanged."Yes?""I... I want to apologize once again," Franklin said, his lips trembling. "I know that saying I'm sorry will never be enough to erase all the wounds I've inflicted on your heart over all these years."Alexa let out a long sigh. She adjusted her posture and looked directly into Franklin's eyes with a firm gaze, although a trace of pity struggled to break through the walls
It took only a few hours for DEV Group's security network to track down Olivia and Felicya's whereabouts.Using location data and CCTV footage from the city's security checkpoints, the team led directly by Mike successfully located the two women’s hideout. They were hiding in a cheap, rundown motel on the dusty outskirts of the city.By late morning, three black vehicles sped into the motel parking lot and came to an abrupt stop. Devan's well-built men, all dressed in black, immediately got out and swiftly surrounded every exit with practiced precision.Mike gave the signal. Two of his men kicked open the door to Room 104 with a thunderous crash.Bang!"Don't move!" Mike commanded firmly as he stepped inside.Inside the cramped, musty room, Olivia and Felicya, who had been hurriedly stuffing their belongings into bags, let out shrill screams.Their faces turned deathly pale."Who are you people?! Get out of here!" Olivia screamed hysterically as she grabbed a table lamp and pointed it
The next morning.Morning arrived under somewhat overcast skies. After finishing breakfast with barely a word exchanged, Devan held Alexa’s hand and led her toward the car. They had only one destination: the hospital where Franklin was being treated.Alexa walked with her emotions still in turmoil, but Devan’s firm grip on her fingers was the only thing giving her strength.Upon arriving at the hospital, Devan and Alexa immediately headed to the third floor.Franklin’s condition was reported to have passed the critical stage, and he had been transferred from the ICU to a regular intensive care ward. Two bodyguards in black suits stood firmly in front of the door, immediately bowing when they saw Devan and Alexa arrive.Devan slowly pushed the door open. The sharp smell of antiseptic immediately stung his nose.On the bed, Franklin lay weakly. The middle-aged man’s head was wrapped in a thick white bandage. His face was deathly pale, far removed from the arrogance that usually clung to
Alexa remained frozen in place. An oppressive silence suddenly crept through the family room. There were no hysterical screams, no tears immediately streaming down her cheeks.Instead, her beautiful face looked unusually calm—a calmness so faint that it felt strange.Devan anxiously observed every change in his wife’s expression. He rubbed Alexa’s fingers, which felt increasingly cold as ice. “Alexa, do you want to go to the hospital now to see him?”Alexa remained silent for a moment, staring blankly ahead before finally shaking her head slowly. Her voice came out completely flat. “It’s still too late at night, Devan. The ICU visiting hours won’t allow anyone to enter right now. It’s better to go later, during morning visiting hours.”Devan nodded slowly, agreeing with her rational consideration. However, before he could say anything else, Alexa turned her face toward him and stared at the thin bandage on Devan’s temple.“You haven’t fully recovered yet, and you didn’t sleep last nig
