LOGINChapter 06
Rowan’s POV
I pushed the door with a gritted teeth, my parents have no right signing an agreement to determine my wife nor my life.
I barged in my father’s office, darkness eloped my vision as he remain seated with no remorse from his face. He knows why I’m here, he had been keeping tabs in my recent activities.
“I’m assuming Mykayla had been talking?” He spoke, continuing signing some stupid papers. Didn’t even raise his head to look at me.
I remained standing away from him, I know I was capable of doing violence… even to my own father.
My father had never been present in my life, he wasn’t the type of father every child dreams of, instead he buried himself to work and when I was old enough he honed me to the man that I am now… workaholic, just like him.
“She had a lot to say.”
Just thinking about her made my skin crawl from irritation. Years of torture and no matter how hard I pushed away, they find a way to stay grounded and annoy me.
“You’ve known about the engagement for years, and you’re only complaining now?” He paused. Stoic and full of authority, his eyes met mine. “Does this has something to do with a model you been seeing? What was her name? Kayla Serrano?”
My jaw clenched as he utter her name. He smirked. He got me.
“No.” I denied. “This is about how you’ve been decide my life. I’m not a little boy anymore, you’ve done your part so let me make decisions on my own.”
“This is nothing personal. The Jones has a lot to offer in business. You know our family tradition, the moment you were born you were already tied to them. It was just a matter of time to seal the deal.” His words cut through.
So much for being the successful if my parents still has their hold on me. They decide like they still own me. I owe them a lot of things but this is an awful agreement.
“I won’t let that happen.” I utter with determination.
“I didn’t know things were serious with this girl.” He smiles that never reached the eyes. “Let’s see how desperate you are.” His smile disappear and warns me. “Be careful, you might hurt yourself in the process especially if that girl finds out who you truly are… and what you did.”
My skin crawl and memories of the past flooded my brain that I almost drowned. I gasped for air and closed my eyes tight curing my blurry vision when my eyes met my father’s. His eyes unreadable.
“This isn’t about a girl. This is about my life that you’re deciding and living. I’m not a puppet, and I won’t let you control me again.”
I stormed out, not letting another minute pass… he wasn’t my father anymore, he was a businessman, like had always been.
Kayla’s POV
A week had passed since the incident but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Rowan’s anger was consuming my thought, and so does Alison’s threat.
Twisting and turning around my bed, I still couldn’t bring myself to sleep. I groan in frustration as I stare at the clock, it’s midnight and I was still wide awake.
“This is killing me.” I whispered as I jump out of bed, grab my coat and sneak out my apartment.
To my doors were my guards sleeping peacefully. They had been staying there after the incident where I was harassed by a couple of stalkers, it gave me a sense of security to have them near despite the heavy security in the building.
I tiptoed to the elevator and pressed the button to the top floor where the gym was located, might as well blow some steam to exhaust my body that it won’t have a choice but to sleep due to exhaustion.
It was empty just as expected. I walk at the end of the room where I could see the city light clearly. It was calming but seeing the height of the building I was standing when my legs tremble as memories resurface. I pinched myself and close myself as I stepped back slowly, my heart thump loudly and beads of sweats formed my forehead.
I continue to stepped back when my ankle caught a bar of metal that would make me butt land on the floor but instead I was leaning against a masculine built and held by a rough and callused hands.
Slowly, I turn my head to clearly see him… immediately my heart jump when I realize it was Rowan. We jump away from each other, I almost felt like I held a hot surface from the reaction of my body.
“W-what are you doing here?” My voice shaky, but not from earlier but from the man in front of me.
My eyes traveled from his face down to his neck, to his popped arms, he’s wearing a sleeveless top that highlighted his body. By the time I reached his eyes again, I saw him hide a smirk.
“Couldn’t sleep.” I nodded, his eyes never left mine. I couldn’t help but look away. He has this scowl that I find annoying but also cute… right, who would say that Rowan Hermoso is cute, he was anything but.
The silence stretched it almost ate me. “So, you’re legally engaged with the Jones, huh?” the Jones because, we all know for a fact that he’s not marrying Alison, but the business merger.
His father released a statement about an article that we were seen together, he commented that it was just a passing fling like before.
His eyes darken as he shook his head. “I’m not going to marry her.” He gulp that distracted me. “That’s why I need you.” He said almost like a whisper.
His eyes speaking different languages to me but I understood every words he’s trying to say… only I don’t know I could do it.
“Be my fiancé.” I gasped as the words left his mouth. “a fake one.”
My mouth open with disbelief. He stepped closer, he was inches away from him. I could feel his body heat, his smell addicting and how I wanted this so badly… but my pride and ego was hurt.
His head closer to mine and before his lips could touch mine I slap him hard in the face. His mouth open, brows creased and eyes dark.
“I’m too good to be a fake fiancé.” I whispered.
Chapter 11Kayla’s POVAlison was left tongue-tied last night and the family Jones became a laughingstock—though, there weren’t Jones. I am.But it gave me a sense of satisfaction how people criticize them, something that they deserve but not enough for my liking. They deserve more than to be laughed at after the pain that they cost me, and the stolen name along with the stolen company that they don’t deserve. So when Karen showed up at my workplace I was anything but surprise.High cheek bones. bold lipstick. High ponytail. Karen was beautiful though her beauty was consuming. Enough to secure a husband but not enough to be respected. Grace wasn’t one of her characteristic, so when she married my father, she tried to hide her county side girl mannerism. She lack elegance something my mother possesses even in her sleep. For years of managing my family business, she lacked the skills and character of a CEO. Despite the company’s standing in the industry due to her lack of knowledge crac
Chapter 10Kayla’s POVThe soft brush of paint in the canvas caught my attention in contrast to what the art is showing, the strong waves painted with softness but it was anything but.Waves met the shore beautifully along with the golden sunset. It was almost the same that night however waves weren’t soft and the sky was in total darkness.Waves of strong current can crash your body to the point of paralysis. The golden scenery only last for a moment before the darkness meet the ocean and together you create a beautiful danger. It bought back memories that I tried to put behind but it also revealed battle scars no one can take.“Predictable aren’t you?”I faced her. Her eyes focused on the painting while my brows raised at her sudden friendliness. This is unlike Alison so I’m assuming Karen but her up to this.“I’m not sure though.” I stare at the painting instead of her. People around showing interest to the painting beside us, eavesdropping I’m sure.“It’s a beautiful painting. I
Chapter 09Kayla’s POVWhen I received his message, my heart burst into a million different way, emotions I shouldn’t have.I used to be good with what should be. But the new Mykayla—Kayla isn’t good with rules. I thrive with setting my own rules now. With shaky hands, I typed my reply. “I’ll be there.”He replied. “See you at 8.” Cold. Distant. Professional. As we should be.Rowan invited me to his place to discuss our agreement. Rules and condition should be set. Boundaries tighten as our worlds would collide. But instead of thinking how this advancement would benefit my long term plans, but my mind wandered around his touch, his smell, his voice, and everything in between.“Fuck.” I massaged my temple and sat at the corner of my bed, full of clothes.I’ve been searching for the right dress to wear for the past hours. It’s almost time to leave but I was still confuse. This shouldn’t stress me out, this is merely a business meeting and nothing more. With an aching head, I choose the
Chapter 08Kyla’s POVWeb of pictures in my wall turned my vision red, for the past years I have been monitoring and keeping tabs of Alison and Karen’s activity. Documents are scattered on the floor, every article about them I kept like a prized trophy.Along with those pictures was Rowan and his connection to my so-called enemy. I lied, I knew who he was. I knew what had he been up to, his activities, his favorite restaurant, his friends, and the party that he goes to. And I would lie if I said that I didn’t once followed him on a certain event to see him in person… the person who I was supposed to marry. But the incident with Caleb and when Rowan saved me, that was pure coincidence. The odds are in my favor.I got close to the Hermoso Group’s Chairwoman—Nena, with a purpose. I needed a upper hand to help me when things are out of my control and my hard work didn’t go unnoticed. So, when I happen to witness how she was cornered in a dark-alley with no guards on site I didn’t hesitate
Chapter 07Rowan’s POVI sat across the table with Mykayla, her smile spreading across her lips made me want to rip it apart. The noise from our parents conversation and the tableware muted from the anger when she tried to hold my hands.I pulled my hands away and glared at her but ignore my scowl, just like she always does in the past years. However, the longer that I get to know her the more I hate her.Years ago, when I first met her she was different that made me thought that this arrangement wasn’t bad. But things had changed when I left abroad for college and only to come back when I graduated, she was different. It was like she was a different person.Maybe I should blame her step-mother for raising her after her parents died. She became different then… but I don’t know there’s this feeling I couldn’t shake off. Something is off.“What did you say about breaking the engagement?” She smiled sweetly, but it was anything but sweet. “Your parents can’t make you do anything, huh?” I
