Her words fell into dead silence.

I lowered my gaze, hiding the coldness in my eyes, and answered slowly.

"Yes."

That single word froze everyone in the hall.

She clearly hadn't expected me to agree so easily. The rehearsed speech she'd prepared died in her throat.

Beside her, my brother Noah narrowed his eyes, suspicion written all over his face.

"You've been refusing for days. What changed?"

I looked up, my voice so docile it bordered on meek.

"Mother has already decided. I'll go."

The tension in her expression eased at once.

She seized my hand — her fingers ice-cold, her grip iron-tight.

"Elsa, I always knew you were the sensible one. When the Trials are over, your brother will come to bring you home. I won't break my word."

I laughed inwardly but said nothing.

In my previous life, being "sensible" was what had gotten me killed on the frozen plains.

Everyone knew the heir Jacob was savage. To trick me into being Freya's shield, my mother hadn't hesitated to lie.

She told me Jacob despised the weak — that if I played helpless, I'd be eliminated early.

I obediently hid every ounce of my strength. But Jacob dragged me out specifically to mock and humiliate me.

I fled in disgrace, hunted for seven days and nights.

I didn't dare stop. I survived on frozen raw meat and melted snow before I finally shook off my pursuers.

Then, fearing I'd endanger the family, I wandered the frozen plains for two years before daring to return.

But her warm embrace never came.

What awaited me was Freya's grand Marking Ceremony.

Freya stood at the Alpha's side, basking in everyone's blessings.

And my mother stood in the center of it all. When she saw me, her eyes were those of a stranger — cold and distant.

"Rogue. This isn't a place for you."

In that moment, I finally understood.

She had never intended for me to come back.

I lost the will to go on. Within days, I died alone on the frozen plains, consumed by despair.

The deathly cold jolted my mind awake. I looked at her face — painted with urgency — and spoke.

"There's one condition."

She blinked.

"What?"

"If I'm going to represent the Frostfang Pack, I need to be able to access my own resources. The mines Father left me, and my three hunting grounds — I want full control before I leave."

A heavy silence settled over the stone hall.

Her brow furrowed immediately.

"Those were meant as your future mating gift. You want them now — you don't trust me?"

I shrugged.

"It's not about trust. The Luna Trials are deadly. If I die out there, I'd like to leave something behind."

Color drained from her face, then flooded back in an angry flush. She finally swallowed her anger and nodded.

"Fine. I'll have the Elders transfer control to you."

I bowed my head in a small gesture of respect.

"Thank you, Mother."

She watched me, then sighed, her voice softening.

"Don't overthink this. When you come back, the Frostfang Pack will still be your home."

I'd heard those exact words in my past life.

And later, she'd said with her own mouth:

"There is no place for you here."

Late that night, I returned to my room.

Low voices drifted in from outside — wolf-tongue. Guards she had posted.

They were watching me. Making sure I didn't change my mind and escape.

I stood at the window and slowly clenched my fists.

This time, I would go. Of course I would.

But I would never again be the Elsa who was carelessly thrown away as a sacrifice.

The Luna Trials — I would see them through to the very end.

And everyone who owed me would pay back every last debt.

The girl was said to be sharp-tongued, often berating him in public for being useless. As for my mother — she barely left the house anymore. She spent her days in a bare stone cottage, polishing and repolishing the few keepsakes Father had left behind.Someone overheard her talking to herself at night, sometimes calling Father's name, sometimes mine."She's living with regret."Jacob said this as we were surveying newly claimed territory in the north.I didn't respond. I only looked out toward the endless chain of snow-capped mountains. As Luna, my days were consumed with endless affairs. But in whatever t

"Elsa — wait!"She had come alone. Gone was the composure she'd forced in front of the crowd. She looked old and exhausted."Can I speak with you? Just the two of us?"Jacob glanced at me. I nodded, and he withdrew with the guards to the far end of the corridor. Her eyes were red. She dropped to her knees before me.I had never seen her like this. She looked up, her face streaked with tears — wretched and aged."Elsa. I was wrong."I watched her in silence."I can't sleep anymore. The moment I close my eyes, I see your face."She choked on sobs, reaching for my knee but stopping midair. She covered her face, her shoulders shaking violently."Freya's illness keeps getting worse. Noah went into the mountains to find medicine for her and damaged his own wolf spirit in the process."She lifted her head. Her eyes were threaded with red."So now you regret it."I finally spoke. She shuffled forward on her knees, trembling hands outstretched."Elsa, I know I have no right to ask anything of y

On the day of the Summit, Alphas from all fifty-six northern packs gathered at the Lycan King's fortress. When we entered the stone hall, a wave of whispers rose and fell like a tide.Countless eyes settled on me — probing, appraising. This was Jacob's first official appearance since ascending to the Lycan King throne. He held my hand as we walked to the high seat reserved for the Luna beside the Lycan King's throne. As we passed the Frostfang Pack's section, I let my gaze sweep over them, calm and measured. My mother sat there, pale and gaunt.Noah was beside her, and next to him, Freya, her head bowed.Freya wore an extravagant gown that was clearly the wrong size — as if desperately trying to prove something. The Summit began. The property transfer was completed before dawn.I took full control of the mines, the hunting grounds, and everything else Father had left behind.Including the wolf-fang bow that Noah had hidden away. The name carved into its spine wasn't just Elsa. There was also an ancient symbol. The Elders said it was the sigil of the Silver Moon Pack — a clan long destroyed.I ran my fingers along the bow's spine.Jacob stood beside me, gazing at the sunrise."One of the oldest packs in the Northern Territories. They were masters of runes and prophecy. Twenty years ago, a traitor sold them out. Several packs joined forces to annihilate them. The entire bloodline was wiped out."He glanced at me, something almost pitying in his voice."You are the last of their line.""You already knew?""I suspected it when you cracked those runes during the Trials. Jacob didn't take me back to the northern fortress. Instead, he walked into the Frostfang Pack's council hall.He strode to the head seat and sat down as though he owned the place.Within minutes, my mother and the pack Elders were brought in.They looked terrified — especially her. She couldn't bring herself to meet my eyes.Jacob rested his chin on one hand, his tone lazy."The Frostfang Pack's mines and hunting grounds — whose name are they under?"One of the Elders answered, voice shaking."Your Highness, most are under Elsa's mother. A few are managed by Noah and Freya.""And Elsa?"The Elder fell silent.Jacob smiled."So Elsa has nothing?"My mother rushed to speak."Your Highness, I was only holding them temporarily. In an instant she donned a mask of terrified deference, pulling Freya down with her into a curtsy."Your — Your Highness, what brings you here?"Jacob ignored every person kneeling before him. His gaze landed squarely on me."So you're the little she-wolf who walked out of my Trials without a scratch?"I met his eyes."I am."He stopped in front of me, the corner of his mouth curving into something sharp."Every other contestant came out broken — physically or mentally. You're the only one who not only survived intact but finished three days ahead of schedule."My mother's head snapped up, disbelief flooding her face."That's — that's impossible —"Jacob spared her a glance, his voice dripping contempt."It seems your mother has no idea what you're capable of."I said nothing. In my past life, I'd followed
