Lyra

If I had ever dared to hope this prison would be kinder than my father’s, the first two days of travel proved me a fool.

When the carriage finally lurched to a halt at the Blackthorn pack house, Draven didn't offer a hand. He stepped out into the crisp air, leaving me to navigate the high step in my heavy gown alone. As I descended, a ripple of whispers greeted me.

“The wolfless princess,” they breathed.

“She really is ethereal.”

I did the only thing I had been trained to do: I painted a smile onto my face and held it there until my cheeks ached.

Draven walked straight toward a woman standing on the porch. She looked to be in her thirties, with sharp, calculating eyes.

To my horror, he pulled her into a lingering embrace, the kind of hug reserved for lovers, not family. When she finally pulled away to look at me, her gaze was dripping with venom.

“You really are as beautiful as the rumors say,” she sneered, her voice like sandpaper.

“Too bad you’re a mute. And wolfless.”

The insult burned, but I kept my smile locked in place. I wanted to scream, to ask what I had done to deserve such cruelty from someone I don't even know.

“Elin!” the woman barked.

A young maid, no older than myself, hurried forward.

“She is your responsibility now,” the woman commanded. “Take her to her chamber and ensure she doesn't come out.”

I followed Elin through the castle. It was a place of cold grandeur, marble floors that clicked under my heels and the suffocating scent of expensive wood and power. But as we walked, the luxury began to fade.

We bypassed the grand suites, descending a flight of stairs that led deep into the bowels of the building. The air grew damp and chilly.

We stopped at a golden door at the very end of a dark corridor. It was the only room down here, hidden away from the rest of the pack. Just past it, at the very end of the hall, stood a well-decorated and well-lit tent.

“I stay there,” Elin said, gesturing to the tent, before unlocking the golden door for me.

“This is your room, My Lady. If you need me, press this button, since you can’t talk. I will open the door when you have an event.”

She waited until I nodded, then left. The click of the lock echoing in the silence felt like a gavel.

I collapsed onto the bed, the weight of the day finally crushing me. The tears I had been holding rushed out in a silent torrent. I sobbed into the pillow, but eventually, the fear of Draven seeing my "puffy eyes" took over. I rang the bell.

When Elin returned, I gestured toward my face. She understood, applying a fresh layer of makeup to hide my misery.

I sat on the edge of the bed for hours, waiting for my husband.

Maya had said the wedding night was "special," a time for a husband and wife to consummate their union. I didn't fully understand it, but I knew I was supposed to be ready. I paced the small, cold room, my royal blue gown feeling like a lead weight, refusing to change for fear of being a disappointment.

As the moon climbed high, I noticed my door was slightly ajar. My heart skipped. Had Elin been careless? Or was this an invitation?

Driven by a desperate curiosity, I slipped out. I retraced my steps up the stairs, my bare feet silent on the cold stone. I searched the rooms on the upper floors until I found a door at the end of the hall, standing open just a crack.

I pushed it wide, and my blood ran cold.

Alpha Draven was there, but he wasn't alone. He was on top of the woman from the afternoon, his the lady he had hugged at the entrance. They were both naked, their skin slick with sweat. I stood frozen as the realization of what I was seeing crashed over me.

Sex.

My husband was with another woman on our wedding night.

The woman looked up, a triumphant smirk crossing her lips as she locked eyes with me. Draven didn't stop. He didn't even try to hide. He simply looked over his shoulder, his eyes as cold as steel.

“If you’re done watching,” he said, his voice flat and bored, “you can lock the door.”

I did as he said, my hands shaking as I turned the handle. As I turned to flee, Elin was already there, waiting to lead me back to my room. That’s when it clicked, the door left open, the "careless" maid, the ajar bedroom door……it was all a play, a scene staged for me to witness.

Back in my room, I sat in the dark.

“Are you okay?” Elin asked. For the first time, I saw genuine pity in her eyes.

I hated it. I didn't want her pitying me. I forced a smile and nodded until she finally left. As soon as the door shut, I ran to the bathroom. I filled the tub and plunged my head beneath the surface.

Under the water, I finally let out the scream I had been holding for years. I shouted into the silence of the water until my lungs burned. When I pulled myself up, gasping for air, I looked in the mirror.

Even with ruined makeup and bloodshot eyes, I was still "ethereal." I was still a masterpiece. I hated every inch of my reflection. I practiced my smile, adjusting my expression until the girl in the mirror looked "useful" again.

I thought about the knife. I thought about destroying the only thing people valued. But my father’s voice echoed in my head:

“The only reason you are alive is because of your beauty.”

I wasn't a person. I was a wolfless freak kept as a pet because I was pretty to look at.

“The wolfless princess with the ethereal beauty,” I whispered.

That was all I was allowed to be.

Ace “You talk big for a weak nobody,” I growled at Draven, my voice dripping with contempt as I threw his heavy body clean across the dirt ring.I wanted to end this pathetic fight already, but Ronan had yet to enter my line of sight. So, I continued to toy with Draven, dragging out his humiliation. This was a small, satisfying revenge, a mere warmup for the real reckoning that would come later. The moment Ronan stepped back into the arena perimeter, I knew it was done. Without wasting another second, I delivered a brutal blow that knocked Draven out cold, and the referee instantly declared me the winner.I didn't waste a single moment basking in the glory. As the crowd erupted into a deafening roar of praises, I quickly made my way toward the back exits leading to my private chambers, casting a sharp look at Ronan and signaling for him to follow me immediately. We slipped into the quiet corridor, the heavy wooden door shutting out the noise of the arena.“I didn't see it, Alpha,” Ro

Lyra “My Lady, what were you doing outside in the dead of night? I was worried sick, but luckily Sir Ace brought you back,” Elin said, her fingers working gently as she combed through my hair.“Outside?” I asked, my brow furrowing in deep confusion. I hadn't been outside last night. In fact, I distinctly remembered falling asleep the moment I returned to my chambers. How could I have been awake and wandering around outside without knowing it? I thought, a cold knot forming in my stomach.“Seriously, my Lady, did you completely forget?” Elin moved back, looking down at me with a mixture of awe and concern. “You were fast asleep when Sir Ace carried you back in his arms. And you even had a nasty wound right on your neck.”“What happened?” A wave of sharp panic hit my chest. Was I really out there last night? I tried to reach into my mind, to grab onto any memory of the darkness, but I couldn't recall a single thing.Suddenly, Elin let out a sharp gasp, her hands trembling as she stared

Ace I couldn't sleep. I didn't know why, but I just found myself tossing and turning until, like an invisible pull, I felt an intense urge to go outside.Just as I opened my door, I caught sight of a figure walking quietly outside the castle.Isn't that Lyra? What was she doing outside at this hour? What if someone from another pack attacks her? The thought sent a jolt of panic through me, and I broke into a run toward the castle grounds. She stood perfectly still under the moonlight, her skin glowing softly beneath its light. It looked as though a strange type of power was resonating all around her. The sudden suspicion was confirmed the moment she snapped, “Stop.”The word tore through the air, and a heavy, undeniable wave of pure authority slammed into me. I felt it in my very bones; I was completely frozen. Every muscle in my body locked instantly, and even when I desperately tried to force my limbs to move, they refused to obey.“Lane, did you see that?” I mentally called out to

Lyra After giving me a look of deep disappointment, he turned and left the hall in anger. I knew down to my core that anybody in his position would be furious with me. Who wouldn't be? I half-expected him to never want to speak to me again.I forced myself to walk side-by-side with Draven, keeping pace as he laughed and talked with several Alphas from neighboring packs. Some faces I recognized from previous gatherings; others were completely foreign to me. Around us, the grand hall was bursting with life. Conversations echoed off the high ceilings and people danced without a care in the world, but inside, I was slowly dying. Why me? I kept asking myself, the question repeating like a cruel mantra all through the night. When I finally found a moment of freedom to escape back to my chambers, the first thing I did was sit down and quickly write a thank-you letter to Ace. I desperately wanted to write more, to somehow justify my actions and explain myself, but I knew deep down that there

Ace I watched as Lyra walked onto the podium with her maid by her side. Her eyes held a depth of sadness more profound than I could ever comprehend, and my hands clenched into tight fists at my sides. Her father must have done something to her.“A letter from Lady Lyra, to address the events at the forest perimeters today,” her maid announced to the crowded room.I locked my gaze onto Lyra. Her fingers were dug deep into the fabric of her gown, twisting it tightly as her petty maid opened the parchment and began to read.“I am deeply sorry for what happened during the she-wolf game today,” the maid projected, her voice ringing clearly through the hall. “And I am most especially sorry to Lady Selene. She may be a widow, but she is truly the most amazing woman in the world. She did not lie when she said I was trying to bewitch Sir Ace, anyone looking at the situation would think that. She was simply looking out for her brothers-in-law, Sir Ace and Alpha Draven. My husband has always be

Lyra I thought I would die. I thought it was my end... just when I had decided to blind them with my face, just when I had accepted the fact that I was born this way and nothing could change it. Just when I realized that people are the ones who use my beauty for their own interests, not me.I would die, I thought. But then, a massive black wolf with gray eyes knocked the other wolf out. His fur was jet-black, and he was twice the size of the beast that had been about to attack me.My hands were still trembling when the wolf shifted back into Ace. As he approached me, my eyes wandered down his naked body before I violently jerked my gaze away. It was my first time ever seeing a naked man, and my breath hitched completely, a fierce heat rushing straight to my face.In the distance, I heard someone’s voice shouting about bringing clothes and supplies.Ace again. It was Ace when I was attacked by the maid. It was Ace when everyone else was staring at me. It was Ace defending me from Drav
