Calliope

"Hey, I'm talking to you asshole!" I scream with as much confidence as I can muster, pushing myself to my feet clutching my side where my ribs are screaming at me to lay back down and sleep. He turns to look at me with a raised eyebrow, he slowly walks, almost glides, back over to where I am standing and places his finger under my chin, forcing my head to tilt up towards his. He leans in, close enough that I can hear as he whispers.

"You are not what I expected you know? I truly believed living in that world would leave you this broken, fragile thing. I am glad to see I was wrong, perhaps you will survive this world after all, as long as you dont lose that fire that clearly burns within you. If you ever find yourself in need of some...physical company... I would be more than happy to oblige." A shiver goes down my back, god something is really wrong with me, definitely going to need some therapy after this. "As for your mother, I assure you she is fine and by now has fully healed from her injuries the Fae are a resilient people." He said this with such authority I almost believed him, almost.

"Fae? Like fairies? Oh good you're a crazy person. Iv been kidnapped by a madman who thinks fairies are real, great just my luck." I roll my eyes and sigh hoping that this King whoever he is will be at least half sane.

Tsk Tsk "What a shame that your mother never told you anything about our people, yes my dear, fairies. Where are my manners…" he shook his head and shoulders like a wet dog coming in from the rain and all of a sudden his appearance changed. He was always tall, but now he had to have been about a foot taller, with pale corpse-like skin, eyes as black as the night itself and long black hair that trailed down to his hip. Jutting features adorned his face much more pronounced than before, accompanied by long ears that came almost to a point it seemed with gold metal covering on them. His clothing changed too, where a suit once hung against his frame was now replaced with armored plates covering his chest and shoulders draped like feathers against his skin. Black flowing pants that looked like silk covered his bottom half with a sheathed sword strapped to his back. His very muscular abs were on full display along with beautifully woven tattoos that seemed to cover his torso entirely from what I could tell. He wore no shoes and everything modern about him was stripped away, he looked as though he had walked out of one of Katie's fantasy books. My mouth is hanging wide open at this point, shocked, confused, and more than a little turned on by the site in front of me, my head is spinning. Still not quite coping with the gravity of the situation I say the only thing that seems to want to come out of my mouth.

“So no shoes huh?” Oberon looks down at his feet to inspect them.

“In a human glammer we wear them to blend in, but the Fae do not have a need for them. You will come to enjoy the freedom that being more connected to the earth awards you once you are able to shed this awful skin you are wearing." Nothing he says is giving me any comfort or any clearer of an understanding. I am trying to wrap my mind around the fact that fairies are real when all of a sudden I hear the clomping of horse hooves and see a group of what im assuming are soldiers, dressed in similar clothes as Oberon, coming closer and closer until they slow down as they finally reach us.

"Am I to assume is her?" The man on the horse asked Oberon, completely ignoring me like I was a chair they were here to pick up.

"I have a name," I snapped at him, all of my anger at the situation coming to a boil.

"Yes of course, my apologies," he bowed his head. His kindness threw me off guard seeing as I had only been met with cruelty since this whole debacle started. "Thank you Oberon, the King appreciates your tireless efforts to retrieve the girl and you will be paid handsomely for your troubles. We will accompany her from here." He trotted closer to me until he was within arms reach. As he bends down and reaches out to offer me assistance in mounting the horse he notices my injuries. His face contorts and he glares at Oberon. "I see she has been damaged, his majesty will not be pleased".

Oberon shrugged "It was inevitable, Clara tried to run so force was necessary. She is here, we have waited 20 years he can wait another day." He scoffed, clearly not concerned by the soldiers accusations.

"Very well. Calliope, our healers will see to your injuries, for now we will give you a sedative to make your journey to the castle more comfortable," he reached into a bag strapped to his side and pulled out what looked to be a black powder. Before I was able to protest it was being blown in my face, I sputtered and wiped at my eyes but it was no use everything started to go black as I felt someone grab hold of me, I was getting really sick of being manhandled. My body went limp and the last thing I heard before again going unconscious was the nameless soldiers voice. "Our people have waited a long time for you princess, welcome home."

Calliope The steady pulsing throb of every vein in my body accompanied by an instant ache woke me from what felt like a deep sleep. The muffled sounds of people talking slowly reminded me of my surroundings. What happened? And why don't my eyes want to open? I urged my body to move, but it refused. I felt the sensation of a warm pulse against my neck, the musky smell of smoke mixed with a sweet vanilla put me at ease. I felt my heart start to slow, my panic subsiding, I tried to snuggle in closer into Alexander's big sturdy arms. I felt him shift beneath me as the voices grew louder. I tried to focus on the words, but it felt like my ears were filled with cotton. At last the sounds began to come into focus, one voice rang out above all the others. I must still be dreaming because that sounds like... "No one is doing anything until I have my daughter back." "She doesn't belong to you anymore Clara you made a deal- "That deal means nothing now Elirond! And she was never

Alexander "Ahem, if I may interrupt your majesty. It is a pleasure to meet you, but I find myself curious as to what has prompted this unscheduled visit." I say cautiously. She whipped her head in my direction, the look of disgust quickly flashing across her face before melting into a plastered smile. "As I said before, I am here to celebrate my daughter's wedding day. Now is that such a crime?" She said clutching her imaginary pearls. The sarcasm dripping heavily from her words. "I think the boy is questioning your choice of plus ones that have accompanied you my dear wife," Elirond spat back at her. "Ah yes. Well you see because of the thoughtful little parting gift that you left me with when I was banished from my home I had to come up with some other way to return. Without killing us both of course. And I knew that after my little reunion with Oberon I realized that my own kind would likely offer no assistance. You made sure of that. So, I used what little magic I had left

Alexander "Kael," I scowled. The sound of chaos in the pews behind me was barely heard amidst the blood rushing to my ears. "Oh don’t look so sour Alex, it's nothing personal. Besides I was invited," the smug look on his face and his use of my name so flippantly enraging me further. A sudden gust of wind bellowed beside me making me clutch onto Calliope harder, her figure still limp in my arms. I see a green cloak waft in front of us quickly before I hear a voice chime in. "You are not welcome here and you were most certainly not invited. Now leave while you are still able to do so Kael," Elirond's voice boomed so loud I felt the floor shake beneath me. Magic had definitely been awoken, whether that was a good or bad thing had yet to be seen. I glanced down at Calliope’s unconscious face. Her soft features had contorted into a look of pain. I carefully wiped away the blood trail slowly dripping from her eye like a tear. I half expected the blood itself to be gold, but I gue

Alexander The melodic sound of the choir starting up lets me know that it is time. I face the door and see it swing inwards. When my eyes land on Calliope my mouth goes dry, i’m frozen, unable to move or even blink. She is always beautiful, but the way she is walking towards me with the hint of a smile makes my heart stop and by the looks of the people in the pews I am not the only one. It feels like forever before she finally reaches me, Elirond releases her hand into mine and with a piercing look pats me hard on the shoulder in a motion of approval. I slowly walk us back toward the officiant, taking my time, basking in this moment with her. The way her small hand fits in mine feels like home. I don’t understand my feelings towards her, but I know that I am willing to die to protect what is mine and whether she feels it or not she is exactly that. Mine. The sound of the robbed man speaking in front of us is drowned out by the loud voice in my head going over my plans one mo

Calliope When I finally felt ready Adylin called for Mae to accompany me to the ceremony as she went ahead to prepare the guests. The hallways were silent with anticipation, the only sound was the quiet rustling of my dress dragging behind me. I turned a corner to see Elirond standing tall dressed in what I assumed to be formal wear for the Fae, a long emerald green cloak overtop of a golden metal plates over his chest that looked similar to armor. His long hair was tucked behind his ears putting them on full display. Their points so pronounced they looked almost sharp. Reflexively I reached to touch my own and was surprised to find that they had changed. Which should have been no surprise. So much about me had changed in the last few days I hardly recognized myself at all. It made this whole thing alot easier. It felt more like I was an outsider watching my life through someone elses eyes. Just a few days ago I was a college student itching to get away and now I would do any

Calliope Mae and Adylin were flitting around the room doing last minute touches on my hair. The golden metal charms that are scattered in a random pattern hung in it makes it feel heavy and jingle when I move. The white laced gloves I have on feel foreign, but not uncomfortable. Elirond explained that it was traditional for the bride to wear them in Alexander’s culture so I obliged hoping he would notice and appreciate the gesture. The rest of my ensemble was indicative of Fae culture so it really didn’t matter what I wore, none of it was familiar to me anyways. Instead of a white dress I wore the house colors of the Silverthornes which was green and gold. My dress was more like a gown, long and flowing with a tight gold metal corset over the top of my dress with little to no give that made it difficult to move or breathe for that matter. The fabric was like nothing I had ever felt before, soft like silk with more layers than I could count, but weightless a

Calliope As people slowly filed out of the chapel, stopping to turn back and steal a glance of the freak, I feel Adylin's hand still clutching mine.
