Calliope

"WELL?!" I yell a bit more forcefully than I mean to. My mother turns to look at me, tears welling in her bright green eyes, making them look even more striking against her white complexion. Her messy red hair falling out of her tightly wound bun giving away the fact that she had clearly been pulling at it for some time before we left. My heart begins to thud so loudly I think everyone in the car must hear it. It feels like ages before she speaks, im praying that whatever comes out of her mouth next will make this all so much clearer.

"....Cali sweetheart I am so sorry, we thought we had more time, we didn't think they would come today, we though we could protect you, if we had more time maybe we could have–-", she didn't get the chance to finish her sentence before our car was rear-ended by a large black SUV causing my mother to jerk forward. Our car spun out of control and smashed against the guard rail before being t-boned by a second vehicle and coming to an abrupt stop. My head collided with the seat in front of me, the seabelt stopping me from flying out of the window, costing me what im assuming to be broken ribs. As blood drips down my face and into my eye I can feel pain radiating from both my head and chest. The loud crunch of our car colliding with another still echoing in my head as it throbbed. I frantically look around to see my father has been knocked unconscious as has my brother next to me. My ears are ringing and my vision is blurry, but I can still make out the scene unfolding in front of me. Black vans and SUVs are scattered across the dark highway, starting file in all around us with men in tactical gear pouring out and surrounding our vehicle with guns drawn. As the ringing in my ears subsides I can hear my mother yelling at them, begging and pleading with them not to shoot us.

"Mom, what is going on?" My voice cracks. The look of sadness is the last thing I see on her face before the men rush to either side of the car and rip her and I out with little care for our obvious wounds. She grabs what looks like my brother's metal water bottle from the front seat and begins hitting as many people as she can with it before one of them comes up behind her and punchs her in the back of the head sending her to the ground. Pain in my head and neck causes my head to sag as they drag me, a hand under each arm, to what looks like a large armored truck. Once we stop I hear a sound click as the doors swing open and what I see does nothing but add to the confusion of the situation. Large chains holding what I can barely make out in the dark as a large metal looking box suspended inside an otherwise empty, refridgerated truck.

"Please," I hear my mother pleading with a tall broad man in a dark suit. There was something about him that just seems off, but I can't quite put my finger on it, but truthfully, nothing about this situation is normal.

"Your words mean nothing Clara. You knew this day was coming and you thought you could run. Begging holds no value coming from the mouth of a pathetic traitor, and my patience has run as thin as my pity." The man sneers with disgust practically spitting as he speaks mear inches from her face. "You know better than to disrespect him and yet you thought you could outrun the destiny that was given to you. You really thought we wouldn't find you. Blood calls Clara, you should know that, but maybe after all of this time hiding you forgot, let me remind you". Who was this guy, and why did he talk like some weird medevil villan and who the hell is Clara? He stalked closer to her and a sense of dread hit me as I saw a sinister look flash acrossed his face. As he smiled I swear I saw fangs?! No, i'm just delirious from the impact and how exhausted I am. All of a sudden I heard my mother let out a muffled groan as the man plunged a large dagger looking blade through her chest and she crumpled to the ground with a loud thud.

Calliope The steady pulsing throb of every vein in my body accompanied by an instant ache woke me from what felt like a deep sleep. The muffled sounds of people talking slowly reminded me of my surroundings. What happened? And why don't my eyes want to open? I urged my body to move, but it refused. I felt the sensation of a warm pulse against my neck, the musky smell of smoke mixed with a sweet vanilla put me at ease. I felt my heart start to slow, my panic subsiding, I tried to snuggle in closer into Alexander's big sturdy arms. I felt him shift beneath me as the voices grew louder. I tried to focus on the words, but it felt like my ears were filled with cotton. At last the sounds began to come into focus, one voice rang out above all the others. I must still be dreaming because that sounds like... "No one is doing anything until I have my daughter back." "She doesn't belong to you anymore Clara you made a deal- "That deal means nothing now Elirond! And she was never

Alexander "Ahem, if I may interrupt your majesty. It is a pleasure to meet you, but I find myself curious as to what has prompted this unscheduled visit." I say cautiously. She whipped her head in my direction, the look of disgust quickly flashing across her face before melting into a plastered smile. "As I said before, I am here to celebrate my daughter's wedding day. Now is that such a crime?" She said clutching her imaginary pearls. The sarcasm dripping heavily from her words. "I think the boy is questioning your choice of plus ones that have accompanied you my dear wife," Elirond spat back at her. "Ah yes. Well you see because of the thoughtful little parting gift that you left me with when I was banished from my home I had to come up with some other way to return. Without killing us both of course. And I knew that after my little reunion with Oberon I realized that my own kind would likely offer no assistance. You made sure of that. So, I used what little magic I had left

Alexander "Kael," I scowled. The sound of chaos in the pews behind me was barely heard amidst the blood rushing to my ears. "Oh don’t look so sour Alex, it's nothing personal. Besides I was invited," the smug look on his face and his use of my name so flippantly enraging me further. A sudden gust of wind bellowed beside me making me clutch onto Calliope harder, her figure still limp in my arms. I see a green cloak waft in front of us quickly before I hear a voice chime in. "You are not welcome here and you were most certainly not invited. Now leave while you are still able to do so Kael," Elirond's voice boomed so loud I felt the floor shake beneath me. Magic had definitely been awoken, whether that was a good or bad thing had yet to be seen. I glanced down at Calliope’s unconscious face. Her soft features had contorted into a look of pain. I carefully wiped away the blood trail slowly dripping from her eye like a tear. I half expected the blood itself to be gold, but I gue

Alexander The melodic sound of the choir starting up lets me know that it is time. I face the door and see it swing inwards. When my eyes land on Calliope my mouth goes dry, i’m frozen, unable to move or even blink. She is always beautiful, but the way she is walking towards me with the hint of a smile makes my heart stop and by the looks of the people in the pews I am not the only one. It feels like forever before she finally reaches me, Elirond releases her hand into mine and with a piercing look pats me hard on the shoulder in a motion of approval. I slowly walk us back toward the officiant, taking my time, basking in this moment with her. The way her small hand fits in mine feels like home. I don’t understand my feelings towards her, but I know that I am willing to die to protect what is mine and whether she feels it or not she is exactly that. Mine. The sound of the robbed man speaking in front of us is drowned out by the loud voice in my head going over my plans one mo

Calliope When I finally felt ready Adylin called for Mae to accompany me to the ceremony as she went ahead to prepare the guests. The hallways were silent with anticipation, the only sound was the quiet rustling of my dress dragging behind me. I turned a corner to see Elirond standing tall dressed in what I assumed to be formal wear for the Fae, a long emerald green cloak overtop of a golden metal plates over his chest that looked similar to armor. His long hair was tucked behind his ears putting them on full display. Their points so pronounced they looked almost sharp. Reflexively I reached to touch my own and was surprised to find that they had changed. Which should have been no surprise. So much about me had changed in the last few days I hardly recognized myself at all. It made this whole thing alot easier. It felt more like I was an outsider watching my life through someone elses eyes. Just a few days ago I was a college student itching to get away and now I would do any

Calliope Mae and Adylin were flitting around the room doing last minute touches on my hair. The golden metal charms that are scattered in a random pattern hung in it makes it feel heavy and jingle when I move. The white laced gloves I have on feel foreign, but not uncomfortable. Elirond explained that it was traditional for the bride to wear them in Alexander’s culture so I obliged hoping he would notice and appreciate the gesture. The rest of my ensemble was indicative of Fae culture so it really didn’t matter what I wore, none of it was familiar to me anyways. Instead of a white dress I wore the house colors of the Silverthornes which was green and gold. My dress was more like a gown, long and flowing with a tight gold metal corset over the top of my dress with little to no give that made it difficult to move or breathe for that matter. The fabric was like nothing I had ever felt before, soft like silk with more layers than I could count, but weightless a

Calliope The sweet smell of coffee wakes me from a deep sleep, and a familiar hum makes its way to me. My eyes shoot open at the realization, I quickly sit up and jump out of bed. I run to my door and rip it open, my socks on the wood floor make my exit less than graceful. As I p
