Early in the morning, Aunty was already in the kitchen complaining about carrots. Michelle stood at her a corner, her hands at her back as she stared like a guilty mouse.
"Good morning ma" I greeted.
She turned from the fridge , then reached out to touch my chin, "Lady, how was your night ?" she asked with a smile.
" It was just cold," I replied. Then looked at Michelle who took that time to greet me.
"Auntie good morning " she said. I ruffled her hair then peeped in to see the carrots Auntie was complaining about.
"It's the carrots we bought since. This rabbit here" she said pointing at Michelle, "has suddenly changed from her nature."
I laughed. The accused took some onions and began to wash.
"Mbe," Auntie said with a smile, "If it was when she was an active rabbit, she will finish the carrots before I even have to use them."

My father was the first man I met who knew how to cook. Most days, when he would fall out with Mummy, he would enter the kitchen, Ada and I would join him. He would instruct us, telling us what to cut ,what to pound or the right amount of spices to use in each meal. The pile of material that I always left on my table or sewing machine was not there. I saw them neatly stacked into a carton at a corner of the room. The tables and chairs were all dusted, windows, clean and clear. There were not much clothes left for sale.I started my day with calling the customers who had been calling me and coming to check up on me, booked appointments with them then I went over to Mrs Idika's house to take her measurements for a 'kimono' jacket she had been wanting to make.
