Bella Reyes

“Let me go, you asshole!” I thrashed against his grip. “Do you have any idea that I can report you for assault?”

He shoved me onto the bed and let out a dark, quiet laugh. “Yeah. Go right ahead. I'm so scared.”

My eyes widened in shock as I nearly hit the edge of the headboard. I scrambled right back up onto my feet.

“Sit.”

“No. Let me go.”

“The door is wide open.”

I glanced toward the doorway. It was completely open, and I knew I should just turn around and run. Even without Tyler's laptop, I could make up some excuse for why I came back empty-handed. Yet, something inside me kept me rooted to the spot when he ordered me to sit again.

“What?” I sat down.

I didn't believe a word he had said downstairs. If he thought bringing me up here to feed me more lies was going to brainwash me, he was dead wrong. This was obviously a setup on his end. This was clearly why Tyler couldn't stand him.

I glared at him, and he gave me a slow once-over before grabbing his phone off the nightstand. He tapped the screen a few times and held it up in front of my face.

“See for yourself.”

I glared at him and didn't take it right away, so he tossed the phone directly onto my lap, screen facing up.

At the top of the chat window was a contact saved as Keith. I shook my head, failing to see what any of this had to do with me.

“What is this? Who even is Keith, and what does this have to do with anything?”

He snatched the phone off my lap and tossed it back onto the nightstand. “Since you're too illiterate to read, I'll just explain it to you.”

“Hey!” I thrust a finger up in the air. “Don't even go there. I am not illiterate, got it? I got into Terraria University on a full-ride scholarship through my own hard work.”

He let out a short laugh. “You sure look like a nerd.”

I followed his eyes as he skimmed over my clothes, and I gritted my teeth. “And what about my appearance gives off that vibe? I don't even wear glasses or braces or any of those cliché things that make someone a—”

“We're not in high school, little miss talkative. Now shut up and listen to me.”

I snapped to my feet. “I will not listen to you until you learn how to speak to me with some respect!”

He let out another mocking scoff. I was tempted to roll my eyes, but I wasn't going to waste any more energy on him.

“Where is Tyler's laptop? Hand it over.” I held my hand out toward him.

Aries grabbed me by the wrist and shoved me back down onto the mattress. He leaned over me, pinning me in place until the air rushed out of my lungs.

“Listen to me, Tyler's girl,” he warned, his voice low and dangerous against my ear. “You were paid to be here, like the good little thing you are, and you're only leaving when I say so. Now stay put and listen to every word out of my mouth.”

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I squirmed and thrashed underneath him. Did he really think he could pull a stunt like this with me? If he dared bring his face any closer, I was going to spit on him.

When he lifted his head to look at me, the harsh truth came spilling out instead paused my breath.

“Keith paid Tyler to lure you here. To sleep with me.”

“What?” The word came out breathless and disbelieving. I almost laughed. Almost.

“I was having a rough patch with hockey, and my coach reminded me to handle it.” He gestured vaguely with one hand. “Get with a girl, blow off some steam. Keith promised he'd take care of it.”

That conversation I had overheard outside my uncle's office flashed through my mind in an instant: “You can't keep doing this to yourself. All this shit you're pumping into your system isn't going to help, especially with the championship right around the corner.”

“And with the championship right around the corner, I wasn't in a position to refuse,” Aries continued coldly. “So basically, I paid Keith to find someone, and your boyfriend took the money and sent you over under some bullshit lie about a forgotten laptop.”

My lips parted, then closed. This had to be the sickest joke of the year.

“Tyler sent me here to get his laptop,” I insisted, my voice trembling. “He said you two got into a fight and he couldn't come pick it up himself.”

Aries laughed, a harsh, humorless sound. “Tyler and I aren't even friends.”

“He didn't say you were friends!” I shot back. “He said you were an arrogant jerk, and I can clearly see that now. I don't know what kind of twisted game you're playing, but I'm not buying any of it. Hand me the laptop so I can leave, or I'll just have him pick it up himself.”

I pushed against his chest to get him off me and tried to stand up, but he yanked me right back down by the arm.

“He doesn't love you, Bella.”

“And you do?” I let out a sharp laugh. “And don't you ever say my name again.”

Aries stood up effortlessly and picked his phone back up off the table. “You really aren't allowed to leave until you fulfill the service I paid for.”

The sarcastic remark forming on my tongue died instantly when he thrust the phone screen right in front of my face.

It was a bank transaction receipt. I snatched the phone out of his hand, my eyes locking onto the recipient's name and the massive amount of money wired into the account.

My blood ran ice cold.

Tyler Morgan.

No. No, no, no. Tyler wouldn't do this...

“Still not convinced?” Aries swiped his thumb across the screen to the next screenshot.

My eyes greedily consumed the text message exchange between Keith and Tyler. I swiped to the next image, and the next, until I reached the final text message.

My hands began to shake. The chilly air in the room suddenly felt like ice, freezing my limbs and rooting me completely to the floor.

It took every ounce of strength I had left to raise my eyes to look up at Aries.

He stood over me with a dark smirk playing on his lips. “So, who's the bad guy now?”

“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked, tears blurring my vision.

“Because he doesn't deserve you,” he murmured. Like he knew any better. God, he was unbelievable!

“And how do you know that?” I shouted, fighting back a sob. “How do you know enough to ruin something so perfect? Why?”

I felt like shoving him backward with everything I had, but instead, I turned on my heel and stormed toward the exit of the room.

10Bella ReyesRunning was not going to save me now. I knew he would catch up, but I attempted it anyway. Aries Hadid was a hockey player. Running and hitting were practically his day job, something he breathed like air, so it wasn't surprising how quickly he towered over me from behind.“Bella, wait!” His hand clamped around my wrist so tight that I just wanted to slump to the floor in pure exhaustion.Or better yet, have the ground open up and swallow me whole. He held me tightly, and when I tried to force a few more steps forward, he loosened his grip slightly, allowing me to walk, but still refusing to let me go.“Please, listen to me,” he panted, his breath ragged. “You have to listen to me, okay?”My own breath came in choppy gasps that heaved my chest. I could barely see where I was going, just walking blindly down the corridor. Why had he fucking announced something like that to the entire student body of Terraria University? Couldn't he have just walked past? Couldn't he have

09Bella ReyesIt was stupid of me to think I could escape him that easily. “Bella, please wait!”I sidestepped students, almost breaking into a full run. I was so focused on getting away that I didn't realize how fast he was gaining on me until he grabbed me by my shirt, bringing all my movement to a sudden stop.“Bella, please.”“Please what?” I whipped my head around so fast my vision shattered into a dizzying spell. The muscles in my arms gave out, causing my bag to slip from my hands and hit the ground. My vision cleared just as Tyler dropped to his knees to pick up my scattered things.Standing up, he held my bag out to me. I hesitated to take it, wishing with everything inside me that he would just go to hell and never come back.“Are you okay?” His voice sounded soft and full of concern, and the absolute absurdity of it made me want to laugh.“I'm fine,” I said coldly, snatching my bag from his hands and clutching it tight against my chest as I turned on my heel.“No, Bella, p

08Bella ReyesI didn't deserve to live backed into a corner like this. I hadn't offended anyone. I hadn't done anything wrong in my life to be backed into a corner like a piece of garbage. That was the single thought that forced me out of bed this morning. It held me together just enough to take a shower and actually show up for class, after rotting away in my dorm room like a piece of furniture for weeks, without speaking a word to anyone.I was sick. Physically, and in my head. But mostly in my head for letting Aries use me so easily like that. Even though weeks had passed, it still didn't feel any less demeaning or damaging.Every time I opened my eyes to a new day, a morning that used to feel bright and full of hope, I was met with a vile, sickening knot in the pit of my stomach. My new routine consisted of throwing up the contents of my stomach, then scrubbing my skin in the shower as if I needed to scrape off an entire layer of myself. The fact that I had completely ruined my l

07Bella ReyesAgainst my own judgment, I nodded.“Oh, Bella.” The low raspy way he said my name sent a wave of liquid heat rushing straight down between my thighs. “You shouldn't. You're far too gorgeous to be crying over someone like him.”“Aries?” I asked softly, my voice barely working as I tried to regain my footing. “Why are you here?”“For you, Bella. I came here for you.”My eyes snapped open. “No, you can't be. Please, you need to leave.” I tried to spring off his lap, but his thick arm wrapped around my waist, yanking me back down against him. This time, my back was flushed completely against his broad chest, and my ass was pressed so tight into his groin that I could feel the thick, heavy outline of his length nestled right in the curve of my cheeks.A mixture of ice and fire sent a shiver down my spine. His fingers pinned my jaw, firm yet surprisingly tender, turning my face toward his until his hot breath fanned over my lips. “Aries...”“Fuck, the way you say my name dri

06Bella Reyes“You wouldn't, Rhea.” I shook my head, feeling pathetically weak.“Oh, I fucking would. Who do you think you are?”“No, Rhea. You can't. Please. This is my future on the line.”“Go fuck yourself and your future. I don't give a damn. You really thought you could have Tyler? That I was just going to let you?” She scoffed, letting out a cruel laugh. “Now look at your pathetic self.” She gestured toward me like I was a piece of trash. “Like I said, if you beg nicely, I'll leave your name out of it so people have to guess. Isn't that generous of me?” She smirked, turning her eyes toward Tyler. “Right, baby?”Baby? I could barely process the insult before the sting of that word cut straight through me.I watched in total disbelief as Tyler agreed. “Right.”Rhea gave a confident giggle, locking her eyes back onto mine. “See? I'm so generous.”There was no way I was going to beg her. I couldn't take the bait. I knew Rhea too well. She would pull out her phone, record me on came

05Bella ReyesI slammed open the door to my dorm room, not caring if I broke the hinges, my eyes frantically searching the space. Tyler wasn't there.Fuck. I was going crazy. God help him if any of this turned out to be true. I had seen the transaction receipt and the message thread, but my brain still couldn't fully process it.Tyler wasn't capable of doing something so cruel to me. It had to be fabricated. For all I knew, Tyler and Aries had bad blood, and this was just a twisted scheme to ruin him.Tyler loved me. We loved each other. There was absolutely nothing Aries could throw at us that would tear us apart. My rushed steps faltered right outside the door to Tyler's room as laughter drifted into the hallway. But that could be anyone. It could be his roommate hanging out with his girlfriend. It could be anyone, and I was stepping way over the line.If this all turned out to be a mind game orchestrated by Aries, I would still have to face Tyler's anger for doubting him. But I ne
