Sound of pain

Marcus’ POV

Pain has a sound.

It isn’t a scream, or a gasp, or even the groan stuck behind my teeth as I drag myself across the uneven forest floor.

Pain sounds like leaves crunching beneath your palms when every movement grinds bone against torn muscle…

like your heartbeat slamming against your ribs with the force of a war drum…

like the wind whispering a warning you are too weak to obey.

I should be dead.

Scar was supposed to make sure of that.

The memory hits hard and sharp the flash of steel, the glint of recognition in his eyes, the betrayal on his face, the words he spat like poison:

“Your Beta sends his regards.”

My Beta.

My employer.

My brother-in-arms for sixteen years.

The man I trusted with my life trusted so deeply that his betrayal feels like a blade still lodged in my gut.

I stagger forward, one hand clutching a tree trunk slick with moss. My vision doubles, then triples. Every breath is fire. My body is a map of wounds, some deep, some blistered, others raw from claw or

  • In Love With The Scared Alpha    At Fall

Lyra’s POVDarkness didn’t fall all at once.It crept.Like a living thing, it slid along the stone walls, swallowed the glowing sigils, smothered the moonfire that had been roaring out of me moments before. The chamber didn’t go silent no, it listened. As if the fortress itself was holding its breath, waiting to see whether I would break… or become something else entirely. My knees hit the floor. Not because I was weak but because the truth had weight.Elara.Thane.My parents’ names echoed inside my skull, colliding with memories that were never whole. A woman’s laughter in a sunlit corridor. Strong hands lifting me onto broad shoulders. A scent pine and iron and warmth that I had chased in my dreams for years without ever knowing why.Rockan was suddenly there, grounding me, his arms locking around my shoulders before I could tip forward completely. His presence was solid, fierce, real. If I let go, I knew I would dissolve into the dark.I pressed my forehead into his chest and in

  • In Love With The Scared Alpha    Stirred

Rockan’s POVThe room felt like it was breathing.Stone walls that had stood for centuries pulsed faintly, ancient sigils glowing and dimming in time with the power rolling off Lyra’s body. I had seen magic before rituals, bindings, wardcraft but this was different. This wasn’t something being *cast*. It was something waking up.Lyra stood at the center of it all, moonfire coiling around her like a living crown. She didn’t look fragile. She didn’t look possessed. She looked… inevitable. And standing a few steps away from her, wearing that infuriating, knowing smile, was Edrien.Every instinct I had screamed to tear him apart where he stood.I moved without thinking, shifting my weight forward, but the moment my foot hit the stone, the air thickened around me like invisible chains. Not painful. Not violent.Restraining.Lyra’s head snapped toward me instantly.“Don’t,” she said. One word. Calm. Absolute.I froze. Not because I was weak. Not because I was afraid. But because for the fir

Tyris’ POVThe bells hit me like a fist to the chest.Low. Ancient. Wrong.I was already awake when they began to toll, standing at the narrow window of my chambers, watching the outer wards flicker from a steady blue to a sickly, pulsing amber. That color hadn’t been used in centuries. Amber meant breach. Not an army at the gates not yet but something far worse.Internal compromise.I clenched my jaw and turned away from the window, every instinct screaming the same word over and over again.Too soon.I had known this moment would come. I’d felt it creeping closer with every strange look Lyra gave the walls, with every unexplained tremor in the fortress, with every time Rockan’s attention drifted toward secrets he shouldn’t have started unraveling. But knowing it was coming didn’t make the weight of it any lighter.I moved fast, shrugging into my coat, strapping my blade to my side. The corridors outside were already alive with movement warriors snapping into formation, messengers s

  • In Love With The Scared Alpha    Fortress

Lyra’s POVI woke up with the unsettling certainty that my body no longer belonged entirely to me.It wasn’t pain that pulled me from sleep. It wasn’t fear, either at least not at first. It was awareness. A sharp, invasive awareness, like something beneath my skin had opened its eyes before I did and was now waiting patiently for me to catch up.The ceiling above me swam in and out of focus, carved stone etched with ancient patterns that glimmered faintly in the low light. For a few heartbeats, I didn’t recognize where I was. Then memory slammed into me with brutal force the fortress, the chamber, the symbols reacting to my touch, Edrien’s knowing gaze.Rockan.I tried to sit up.The world lurched violently, my vision tilting as if the ground itself had shifted. A sharp gasp tore from my throat as heat surged through my veins not the feverish kind, but something brighter, denser. It raced along my spine, down my arms, into my fingertips like lightning looking for a place to strike.“E

  • In Love With The Scared Alpha    No war

Rockan’s POVThe moment I saw the emblem on his cloak, my wolf snarled so violently inside me that I nearly shifted on instinct. The Devouring Hand didn’t announce itself. It didn’t posture. It didn’t threaten openly. It observed. That was what made the man standing before us so dangerous. He stood with an ease that did not belong in hostile territory, hands clasped loosely behind his back as if he were strolling through his own estate instead of the heart of my fortress. Dark hair, neatly pulled back. Calm eyes. Too calm. The kind of calm earned only by men who believed they were untouchable. My fingers curled slowly into fists.“Tyris,” I said without looking at him, my voice low and steady despite the rage boiling in my chest. “Get Lyra behind me.”Lyra didn’t move.I felt it immediately the resistance, the spark flaring hot and wild between her ribs. She wasn’t afraid in the way prey was afraid. She was afraid like fire is afraid of being smothered. That frightened me more than i

  • In Love With The Scared Alpha    Rigid

LYRA’S POVDarkness swallowed everything. Not the normal kind the kind you blink through, the kind your eyes adjust to.No, this darkness felt alive. Heavy. Wet. Throbbing like a heartbeat. For a moment I wasn’t sure if I was standing or falling. All I could feel was the hot, shaking grip of Tyris’s hand tangled in mine, and the heat of Rockan’s presence somewhere close sharp, protective, furious. Their breaths were the only proof that I wasn’t already lost to the thing crawling inside me.Then something moved in the dark.A scrape.A sigh.A whisper that wasn’t mine, but came from deep behind my ribs.He fears you now.I stiffened. Not again.“Lyra?” Tyris’s voice cut through the shadows, strained. “Lyra, stay with me.”I swallowed the tremor crawling up my throat. “I’m here.”His grip tightened like he was afraid I’d vanish.Rockan shifted in front of us. I heard the faint slide of his boots on stone, the slow exhale through his nose as he prepared for impact. His silhouette glowed
