Nathaniel glanced at his phone screen and waited for a few minutes. Without a word, he turned and hurried out of Olivia’s room, his footsteps clipped and urgent as he pressed the phone to his ear.
Olivia didn’t bother to ask who it was. She didn't need to. Whether it was Kate—the arrogant woman parading around with her fake pregnancy—or some other shadow from Nathaniel’s dark past, she didn’t care.
The damage was done. Her heart has become emotionally unstable. What mattered now was her freedom.
The thought of staying another day under the same roof as Nathaniel became her worst nightmare.
Each day with him felt like a slow drowning—silent, painful, and unavoidable. A one-and-a-half-year relationship had become what felt like a decade of emotional bruises and bitterness.
Lying on her back, Olivia stared at the ceiling, her arms limp at her sides, her eyes dry but burning. The white ceiling looked endless, like a blank page she desperately wanted to rewrite. Divorce. The word was a lifeline which will bring an end to her physical and emotional pain.
Suddenly, a name drifted through her mind–Kelvin.
She sat up slowly, her pulse quickening as she remembered their last conversation—she had told Kelvin to connect her with a discreet lawyer, someone who could cut through the red tape and help her vanish from Nathaniel’s life like smoke.
Without hesitation, she grabbed her phone from the nightstand and dialled his number, but it was not available at that moment.
She frowned. She tried again, still nothing.
Letting out an annoyed breath, she typed a message instead:
Hi Kelvin,
Just a quick reminder regarding the divorce process we discussed.
I need to get out of this place before I completely lose my peace of mind and sanity.
Please speak with your lawyer and update me as soon as possible. Hope to hear from you soon.
Olivia
She hit send and tossed the phone aside.
For a second, she just sat there. She pulled her knees to her chest, holding them close, rocking slightly like it might somehow ease the ache inside.
As Olivia sat in silence, her thoughts drifted back to the recently concluded event where she had crossed paths with Luna and John.
The way they spoke to each other, with soft laughter, struck Olivia deeply. She had watched them with quiet admiration, envying the tenderness they shared.
In that moment, she wishes her marriage could be like theirs—warm, respectful, and safe. But that hope was quickly crushed by the harsh reality she lived in. Life hadn’t given her a partner like John. Instead, it had handed her heartache in the form of betrayal, lies, and cold indifference.
Her marriage felt like a prison sentence—one filled with tension, loneliness, fake smiles, and emotional bruises no one could see. A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she let the painful truth settle in.
Then she stood slowly. She needed a drink. Something cold. She slowly moved toward the door, determined to at least find a moment of peace in a glass of chilled wine.
But the moment her hand touched the knob, she froze.
Suddenly, she heard Nathaniel's voice as he blew out of rage while still in the phone conversation.
“I told you not to call me during dinner,” he snapped. “I’ll take care of it. Just shut up!”
Olivia’s heart skipped a bit.
She eased the door open just a little and peeked through the gap. She hides as her heart starts racing while she tries to make sure Nathaniel doesn't catch her eavesdropping on him.
Nathaniel stood with his back to her, phone pressed tightly to his ear, his other hand balled into a fist at his side. His tone wasn’t just angry—it was panicked.
”I will look into it before I accept what you are saying right now. However, I must warn you that if this goes in a different direction, you will see a side of me that you will never forget in a hurry," he snarled in a low terrified voice. "Avoid calling me once more. I will give you a call if necessary.”
Something about the way he said it made goosebumps rise along Olivia’s arms.
She studied his face—what little of it she could see from her angle, and she caught a glimpse of something strange. Not arrogance. Not rage but fear.
He was visibly angry as he hung up, the phone slipping into his pocket with a trembling hand. Without glancing toward her room, he stormed past, the scent of his cologne lingering long after he left.
Olivia's mind raced.
Who was he talking to?
Why was he so disturbed?
She backed away from the door and collapsed on the bed, her mind spiralling into question after question.
The drink was forgotten now. The chill she wanted wasn’t in the wine—it was already seeping into her bones.
Could he have meant what he said about having a baby with her? Was there something real in Kate’s claim after all?
And what if she was pregnant? Was that even possible?
Her hand instinctively went to her stomach.
She shook her head.
No. That was insane.
The ceiling no longer looked like a blank page. It looked like a ticking clock. And every second that passed sounded louder than the last.
Nathaniel wasn’t just hiding lies anymore.
He was hiding secrets.
Dark ones.
And Olivia was no longer sure if escaping him was just about her peace anymore…
It might be about her safety too.
Night! Pitch-black everywhere.Olivia was very slowly wiping her damp hair when suddenly someone grabbed her waist and threw her onto the bed. The man forcibly pulled down her lace nightgown, revealing her lily-white skin. She was instantly stunned and attempted to resist subconsciously, but a familiar scent soon enveloped her. Is this happening again?Reminded that he has humiliated her in this way before, she angrily pushed him away, her anger giving rise to fear, and she locked eyes with him, "Nathaniel, don't touch me! And I mean it don't touch me!"As she panted heavily, she had thought she no longer cared, that she had already forgotten her love for him. But whenever he touched her, when he called out that name, Nathaniel, her heart stabbed as if an iceberg's icicle had ruthlessly pierced into her heart, mixed with the cold blood, causing her to suffocate. The moment for her is not comfortable.Nathaniel? A name that would never fade away. Indeed, how could a living person compa
Nathaniel particularly despised the current Olivia, especially her nonchalant attitude of recent. His inner rage was burning fiercely, his gaze icy as he glared at her, "My injury hasn't healed yet, and you already feel unable to bear this pain anymore. If you didn't have that kidney half a year ago, do you think I would marry you?""I didn't know that kidney was hers. If I knew, even if I were to die, I would not want it!" Those painful words revealed a heartbreaking past. Two years ago, she needed a kidney transplant due to an injury, and the woman he loved died in a car accident. The Blake family unhesitatingly used all their connections to acquire her kidney for Olivia, marking the start of two families' collective nightmare."You left her not entirely intact, do you think I would let you live easily? Every day my injury doesn't heal is a day you won't have peace, I won't let you have one!" Pointing at his own chest, spoke, sorrow in his eyes like blood had bathed through them, a
Upon hearing Olivia's words, Nathaniel's document in his hand was aggressively thrown out, leaving everyone in the office too scared to even breathe, ducking their heads unanimously. The assistant quickly picked up the files from the floor, placed them back in front of Nathaniel, and then stepped back."I think you must be tired of living!""That's right, I am tired of living. But what can I do? You won't let me die, you don't agree to divorce. Everything you have done against our Blake family, I will remember. Since you want to torment me, then torment me to the extreme! In the end, I'm your lawfully wedded wife and others will only say I'm a daughter-in-law of the Cross family! Nathaniel, we either solve this peacefully, or we torture each other like this, throughout our lives until we can't separate even in death."Olivia Blake was almost grinding her teeth as she spat out these words! The look in Nathaniel eyes become extremely icy cold, his expression distorted, as if she had ripp
"Rules? Ha!" Olivia shook her head, "When did you, Mr. Cross, ever have any rules? You managed to even bring women into your office, and you talk about rules?""A woman? What nonsense are you talking about? Nathaniel and I are truly in love!" The woman screamed again, which made Olivia finally remember who she was.Kate, a rising star, suddenly gained popularity again due to Cross's advertising endorsement. No wonder, so she managed to hook up with Nathaniel. That explains how she could get such a good advertisement collaboration."Truly in love? Did Nathaniel ever say that he loves you?" Olivia raised an eyebrow.Kate blanched at her words, desperately looking at Nathaniel, hoping he would say those three words to her. However, he acted as if he saw nothing, angrily pushed her away, and glared at Olivia dangerously with half-closed eyes.He picked up the cover from the desk and threw it on the floor, frightening Olivia to step back several times."Whether I love someone or not, Olivia
She clenched her fists, biting her lip tightly. She knew the familiar taste of iron was washing over her brain as she was once again baptized by her own blood.A moment later, she lifted her eyes proudly and declared, "I didn't kill her, yet you want my life. I didn't come between you two, yet you keep insisting I'm the third party. You're the one who cheated, Nathaniel. Seeing you like this now, it makes me feel sick!”Upon hearing her words, Nathaniel could no longer control himself. He rushed forward and grabbed her throat, his grip tightening. Yet she didn't struggle; instead, she slowly closed her eyes, as if waiting for death to take her.Suddenly, Nathaniel released his grip and shoved her to the ground. His cold gaze seemed like a dark abyss, pulling anyone who dared to look into it.Olivia struggled to catch her breath, just about to open her eyes when she heard a tearing sound. Her dress had been ripped apart. Cold fear swept over her and she gripped his hands as they came at
She slowly shifted her gaze, a smile always gracing her lips. She lifted her glass of wine towards the couple and said, "It's nice to meet you.""I'm happy to meet you too!" Mrs. John, Luna, responded cheerfully."I've heard about you both for quite some time now, but never had the chance to personally meet you. Indeed, you both live up to the rumors. Such a sweet and loving couple, truly an envy to others!" Olivia showed a face of admiration, it wasn't fake. She genuinely admired their relationship, for who wouldn't desire to have a loving partner to grow old with?"You two are also a loving couple, aren't you? I just spotted your husband whispering sweet nothings to you!" Luna chimed in.Olivia was taken aback. She hadn't expected Nathaniel's whispering could be mistaken for romantic murmurs. His acting skills were truly not to be underestimated.Seeing the blushing expression on Olivia's face, Luna thought she was being shy, immediately raising her glass cheerfully, "I adore sweet c
Olivia had not yet reacted when she was thrown into the car. Nathaniel closed the door, and the driver directly drove away in haste!"Nathaniel? What are you doing?""What am I doing? Are you going to stay there and make a fool of yourself? When did you become jealous, playing tricks in such a setting? Do you know who Kate is?" Nathaniel glared angrily, his eyes filled with a flame that could burn her to ashes at any moment. In their half-year marriage, he barely spoke to her kindly. Even though they saw each other every day, it was always in the office. Even when he needed her, he seemed reluctant."She's just an actress, right?""An actress?" Nathaniel reached over and gripped Olivia's chin, looking at her with a sarcastic expression, "Then what are you?""Hmph!" Olivia let out a cold laugh, fearlessly meeting Nathaniel gaze, "That depends on what you consider yourself to be, Nathaniel."Nathaniel, instead of being angry, laughed and released his hold on her, then pulled out a tis

Vivian?" Olivia gave a light smile; her eyes, however, signalled her to stop speaking. After all, it was a wound she had hoped not to reopen.Vivian helplessly stared at Olivia and refrained from continuing the same conversation.Olivia settled Vivian in the house she had found for her ahead of time and returned. She had to arrive at the Cross mansion before dark. As soon as she entered the Cross's mansion, she heard Nathaniel's inquisitive voice as expected. "Where did you go?" Nathaniel asked unsatisfactorily as he stood at the entrance of the Cross mansion, watching Olivia rush there, "Grandpa and Dad are already waiting inside!"Olivia looked up at Nathaniel, remembering the arrogant face of Kate standing in front of her earlier on and said darkly, "A woman carrying your child took up my time, and that's why I am late!""What did you say? A woman carrying my child?"Nathaniel stared at Olivia with a threatening gaze, half narrowing his eyes, "Haha, you believed that? Or are y
Seeing Vivian sitting on her own suitcase, Olivia quickly rushed over with a smile, "I'm really sorry, darling. I worked too late last night and overslept!"Vivian Kane sneered, examining Olivia and the little "marks" on her neck. "Hmm, you did really work late. Aren't you scared that your icy husband will break your 'silicone'?"Olivia's mouth twitched at the corners, silently cursing in her head. This girl's "silicone" must have frozen and fallen off once.In the coffee shop, Vivian stirred her coffee while sizing up Olivia."You were going to get a divorce the other day, changed your mind again?""Nope, I'm going to divorce!" Straightened up, Olivia took a sip of her coffee. She knew there was more to Vivian Kane's question."Sigh,"Vivian sighed deeply, "I don't know what to say to you. If you're determined, just make it quick and less pain. Why are you so reluctant? It's just going to cause you more pain.""Enough about me. Why did you suddenly come back? How could your parents
