CHAPTER NINE

Jace's POV

It was dark and everything looked foggy. The distinct sounds of gunshots from a distance were the only sounds that could be heard.

My eyes could barely focus as I felt light-headed.

I heard myself mutter a silent prayer. The words came out more like a babble, with my back resting on a tree trunk. I reloaded my gun as silently as I could, my blood was drumming in my ears. I had lost some of my platoon members just in the wake of dawn as the enemy sporadically shot at us. We were scattered and the fog didn't make things any easier. I couldn't feel the rest of my body as it felt heavy.

I stayed still almost helpless.

I closed my eyes and opened them again, my vision was blurred but I saw a man holding his side and coming up to me. He groaned in pain.

Just then, I woke up. I was sweating so fucking much my pillows were soaked.

It seemed so real and I was glad I wasn't back there in that war but on my bed, in my room.

I had been having this dream for a while now.
