Throughout every one of my morning classes, anticipation washes through me in tidal waves. I could barely concentrate on any of the lectures.

After receiving Estelle's message a few hours ago, I've been dying to rush over to the hospital. But I know I can't skip classes because Dave would find out and, in turn, stop me from seeing Jayden because of the breach of our agreement.

We had a deal, and the condition was that I attend all of my classes today before going to see my friend.

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Sixteen — A new plan

This is the third time I’m glancing at my wristwatch since I arrived at L.K’s Café downtown—the spot I agreed to meet Devin this afternoon. Except Devin is nowhere to be seen.I’ve been sitting here for exactly ten minutes, struggling to maintain my patience at his delay.I hate tardiness with a passion, especially when it has to do with an important meeting I’ve been looking forward to. My secret agent normally keeps to time; I wonder the reason for his unusual lateness today. I just hope whatever information he has is worth it cause I'm at the brink of losing my cool. After sending him a text about his whereabouts, anxiety and anticipation bubble within me as I place my phone on the table and take a sip from my coffee.I glance around the business space, occupied by a few students from both campuses—SIHL and WIHL.Normally, WIHL has its own café reserved solely for its students, but since I’m meeting with Devin, who isn’t a student at my school but at SIHL, we agreed to meet at this

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Fifteen — Can't figure it out

"You haven't touched your food, Whit..." Ava points out, pulling me from my thoughts. My eyes lift to meet hers. She takes a few sips of orange juice from her glass and clears her throat. "What's on your mind? You've been suspiciously quiet since last night. Is there something bothering you?"I don't dwell on her question because the answer is yes. A lot is on my mind. But I'm not sure whether to share it with her.By now, we all know Ava has a big mouth, and I wouldn't want her going around telling anyone what I confided in her.But then again, this question has been stuck in my mind since we came back from Jay's ward last night.I'm still trying to make sense of what happened at the hospital. Ava had asked why I looked so pale when they walked in on me and Jayden, but I didn't respond—I was too shaken.I clearly heard Jayden mention Carl's name in his string of pleas. That scared the living daylights out of me because I realized Carl didn't just send my friend to the hospital—he's s

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Fourteen — Jay?

"He's going to be okay, Whit. You know that, right?"Hearing Ava's soft voice break the still silence in the room, a shudder runs through me.I exhale quietly, replying to her with my eyes still lingering on Jayden. He's fallen asleep again.Ava has exhausted him with her endless chatter about how school life—and life in general—has been without him. I merely sat by and watched her yap for all those hours during the day. It's now nighttime, and she's only giving it a rest because her only audience has given in to slumber.Since Jayden couldn't really speak or say anything, Ava was left to do all the talking, and him the listening. He smiled a few times at her stories, frowned, chuckled, and shook his head when necessary, expressing every facial reaction there is to give.I can't lie, I felt relaxed watching them—observing their interaction. It reminded me of how our friendship was before the incident that occurred. Ava and Jayden were the extroverts in our friend group. They always ha

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Thirteen — I hate Carl Martinez

"This tastes so good, Whit. Where did you get them?" Ava breaks the silence in the room as she gushes about how delicious the cheese croissants I bought her are. She slurps loudly from her milkshake cup, the noise snapping me back to reality. My focus zeroes in on Jayden, who's looking at me with a calm smile. A chill runs down my spine when I feel his touch. My gaze lowers slowly to see his hand covering mine, his fingers rubbing the back of my hand soothingly.I look back up at him, skepticism and unease still swirling inside me as we lock eyes. What I noticed just now—I’m still yet to decipher what it means.Although the guilt in his eyes is gone, a strange puzzlement settles in my chest. Why do I suddenly feel like he might be hiding something? He seemed really tense when I touched him initially. Why?Why is he acting all—Fuck... maybe I'm just overthinking this. What the hell is wrong with me?What could Jayden possibly be hiding? He's been my best friend for several years now—w

We had a deal, and the condition was that I attend all of my classes today before going to see my friend.A glance at my wristwatch tells me I have only a few minutes left until the end of my last class today. For someone who usually enjoys learning, I can't deny I'm not elated to see the end of class.Mrs. Jill gestures towards the whiteboard with a marker as she explains the topic written on it, "MARKETING MANAGEMENT' to the class.Even though the room is completely quiet and it's just her speaking, I can barely hear anything she's saying. My mind is too preoccupied and thrilled with the prospect that Jayden w

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Eleven — Keeping secrets

I wash off the slick abomination in my core and take a shower before stepping out of the bathroom.I try so hard not to think about the weird dream as I apply lotion to my body, rubbing the cream smoothly into my skin.As my hands trail to my thighs, I shudder when a jolt of sensation buzzes through me. Recalling how his hands massaged those same thighs in my dreams, my stomach curls with both disgust and delight.Ew, what’s this feeling?I quickly withdraw my hand from my own body, reacting like I just touched fire. Maybe I just did—the sensations I keep feeling are scorching. And I find that really weird. My heart thumps with anxiety for a moment as I ponder my thoughts, trying to figure out what’s going on with me. I can’t seem to understand my own treacherous body lately. How I keep falling and finding myself in Carl’s web remains a mystery to me. It’s as if I’m a completely different person whenever I’m near him—in my dreams. My room is quiet, so when my phone rings, the sound sh

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Ten - Another wet dream

Before now, I like to believe I was impervious to things like catching feelings. That my goals in life were too specific and strict for me to go off the rails — lose focus, get distracted by anything. Anything, in this context, being a guy.I like to pretend I'm immune to sexual attraction and all

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Nine - Game On

"You need to talk to her, Mr. Logan," I hear Ava's small voice from a distance, but I don't spare her a glance as my focus remains solely on Jayden, who is still asleep. He has been for the last couple of hours, and I'm worried he might have fallen back into a coma — even though the doctor reassure

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Eight - It's Kill or be Killed.

My face relaxes slightly and I sigh, running my hand through my hair. "It's not what you think," I try to convince her so she wouldn't be worried. But Ava snaps, her voice sharp with frustration. "Don't you get it, Whitney? He is dangerous. He and his friends. We cannot fight him alone. We can't...

  • In bed with the ruthless Hockey Captain   Seven - He's a threat

"What are we going to do about him, Whit?" Ava asks once we return to Jay's ward, trepidation-laden in her voice. "What are we going to do about Carl and his friends? This is more serious than I thought. I can't believe... I can't believe he actually came to the hospital!"She is absolutely freakin
