I am tired of searching for my mate. I have lost hope of finding her after her disappearance. I started believing people's words that she was dead. I couldn’t continue to be the Alpha of my people, so I decided to take a break from it and go to the human world where no one knows me. My daughter agrees to go live with me there, and I let my brother take over.

Life takes another turn when it provides me with my second chance mate. It wasn’t just anybody, it was my daughter's friend, who is a minor, and I couldn’t take advantage of her even if she was my mate.

I knew she could feel the mate pull. I couldn’t blame her. I did take a long shower after seeing her. She was gorgeous, and any guy would be lucky to have her. Accepting her will change everything, especially my relationship with my daughter, and she doesn’t know that we are werewolves.

I was against her making her birthday here, but my wolf pushed me to agree. Her sister has a thing for me, and I am aware she is the one that confirmed Sandra's feelings for me. When I first thought it was one-sided before, she had tried to seduce me, but she wasn’t the one my wolf craved the most.

On the day of Sandra's birthday, I left home early in order to avoid her when I got a call from her sister. I don’t know how she got my number. “Hey handsome” she said into the phone.

“What do you want?” her voice disgusted me.

“Common, stop pretending like you don’t want me”, she stretched.

“I don’t want you, what do you want?”

“If I tell you, will you give yourself to me?” she purred.

“If you don't have anything to say, I will end the call now”, I informed her.

“My sister is on her way to your house” she quickly says as I was about to hang up.

“I know she is celebrating her birthday at my house.”

“Do you know she will be confessing her feelings to you tonight?” she told me and everything around me halted instantly.

“What do you mean?” I asked after a long pause.

“She is going to tell you she loves you tonight, so better pick, and I know you aren’t dumb, it’s going to be me,” she said.

“Goodbye Riley”, I hung up the call.

My wolf was happy to hear that his mate was going to confess her feelings tonight, but I on the other hand, was not comfortable about it. My plan was not to go home so that she didn't see me, but that wasn’t a long-lasting solution. Then an idea struck me. In the evening, I decided to go home and, to my surprise, the house was as crowded as I expected.

She and my eyes met, and I could see the joy in them. Riley was right, she was going to tell me today. I quickly searched for Riley and dragged her with me to one of the rooms. “I can see you make your choice,” she said happily.

I sniffed the air as her scents hit me. That’s how I used to know her presence even before seeing her. She has a scent of lavender and rose and that has become my wolf and my favorite scent. I even brought perfume of the same scents to always calm us down. I didn’t bother to answer Riley as I kissed her.

She responded to my kiss like I knew she would and at that moment the door opened and Sandra was staring back at us. My wolf whined at the sight of our mate. He could feel her heart shattering and sadness all through her. She called her sister’s name and that was when she noticed her. The way she acted, I knew she was being dramatic, as if she wasn’t throwing herself at me.

I wanted to run after Sandra when she bolted out of the room, but I couldn’t as I watched her sister run after her. “You hurt mate”, my wolf cried in my head.

“You know that’s the right thing to do,” I reminded him.

“You are just feeling insecure, she already loves us”

“She doesn’t know who we are, she will reject us if she knows who we are.” I look for an excuse

“She won’t, you make our mate cry” he whined.

I locked him out of my head as he was adding more to the pain I was feeling. I went to where they have kept their drink and got myself a drink. I will drink myself till I can’t think about her again.

“What happened in just nowhere dad?” Hannah mind linked me

“I don’t know, is anything the matter?” I pretended not to understand what she meant.

“Sandra just storms off, and I can see that she has been crying.” She told me what I didn’t want to keep hearing.

“I don’t know what happened, I have been in my room”

I didn’t hear any more replies from her as I drowned myself with the alcohol.

In the next few days, I kept myself busy with work. Riley has been calling me, which I kept ignoring. I don’t need her again, and she needs to understand that I will never want her. That morning, I asked my daughter about her best friend just to check in on her

“Have you heard or seen your friend?” I questioned.

“Now, she hasn’t been picking up my calls” she replied.

“Are you fighting?” I acted normally.

“No, something must have happened on the night of her birthday, and she isn’t telling me either,” she groaned.

“She is your friend; I am certain she will come around one day”, I assured her “See you later, Pumpkin.”

“Don’t you think you should take a break today; you have been working a lot lately?” she asked.

“It’s nothing I can’t handle. Have you forgotten I am a werewolf?”

“How can I when I am also one?” we both laughed at our joke as I kissed her forehead and left the house.

I met Hannah sadly when I got back and that is what I have hated since her mother's disappearance. I have promised myself that I was going to take care of her with everything I have. “What’s wrong with my pumpkin pie?”

“She left me father. I thought we were friends, but she left” she cried into my arms.

“Who left” I asked, hoping it was not what I was thinking.

“Sandra dad, she sounded like she was never coming back”, she replied as she looked into my eye “someone hurt her on her birthday.”

“Did she tell you that” my wolf was also hurting when hearing our mate left us.

“No, but I know” she answered back.

“Did she tell you where she was going?” I inquired.

“No, but she said she accepted another school application”

“Meaning she will be here for the holiday; she has only gone to school there” I replied.

“No, she told me she was never coming back again” she replied adamantly.

“Pumpkin, you don’t need to jump to a conclusion, we don’t know for sure, she will be back” I tried to calm her down and when she finally slept off, I left her

No one was going to calm me down as the thought of losing my second mate started weighing me down. My wolf kept crying and whining, blaming me for everything, and I started regretting my actions. I shouldn’t have kissed her sister, I saw a text message pop up on my phone. I went to check, hoping it was her ready to give me another chance, but I hissed as I saw that it was Riley instead and I flung the phone away in annoyance without reading the content.

The next morning, I heard a lock on the door. I listened to my daughter go open it. “Dad, someone is here to see you” she shouted even when she knew she didn’t have to. We werewolves have strong hearing, and we can hear what they are saying from a far distance and that is how I know it was Riley at the door.

I went outside the house. “Thank you pumpkin, I got it”, I told her as she excused us.

“Why have you been ignoring me?” she attacked me as soon as Hannah was out of sight.

I took her to a place where Hannah wouldn’t be able to hear what we were saying. “I don’t know what you mean”, I denied her accusation.

“You can’t kiss me one moment and ignore me the next,” she angrily said.

“I am not into you and I will never be”, I groaned.

“You kissed me”

“I only want you to get your sister off my back”, I said.

“That doesn’t make sense except you are also in love with her” she looked into my eyes. “You are in love with her, aren’t you?” she scoffed.

“That has nothing to do with the fact that I don’t want you”, I reminded her

“She is your daughter's age, what are you thinking?” she asked, clearly annoyed.

“That's why I kissed you to get her off my back, so I don’t want to ever see you again” I said as I left her standing there with a shocked expression.
