FAZER LOGINGrace felt terrible for the driver. Because of her recklessness, he was about to lose his job. The thought weighed heavily on her chest, and she decided she would apologize to him and do whatever she could to protect him from getting fired.
A few minutes earlier, before Grace had woken up, Ethan Marino was sitting quietly in the hospital room, waiting for her to regain consciousness. Just then, his phone rang. It was his assistant. He didn't want to disturb the unconscious girl, so he stepped out of the room to take the call.
“Sir, I’m already outside the hospital,” his assistant said from the other side of the phone.“I brought a new set of clothes for you.”
“Good. Come up to the fifth floor,” Ethan replied in his cold, deep voice. “And what about the business trip I told you to cancel last night?”
“I informed them you won’t be attending the France meeting due to personal reasons.”
“Fine. Hurry up to the fifth floor. I’ve been stuck in these bloodstained clothes since last night. It’s uncomfortable.”
Ethan slipped off his ruined jacket and tugged off his tie. His white shirt, also was smeared with dried blood. Last night had been chaotic, and it was too late to call his assistant then.
After finishing the call, he returned to the room—only to find the girl already awake. For a moment, he paused at the door, surprised.
Grace’s eyes widened when she saw the man walk in. He was strikingly handsome—tall, broad-shouldered, and carrying himself with an air of quiet dominance. This man… he doesn’t look like a driver at all. He has the aura of someone powerful, she thought. But no… I shouldn’t judge someone’s profession by their appearance.
Her gaze fell on his shirt, still stained with her blood, and guilt churned in her stomach.
Ethan walked closer. His expression was unreadable as he asked, “How are you feeling now?”
Grace gave a faint nod. “I… I’m sorry. Because of me, you had to face trouble. I shouldn’t have run in front of your car like that.”
His cold eyes narrowed. “So you know it was your fault. I smelled alcohol on you last night—you were drunk, weren’t you? And yet you rushed into the road like you had no value for your life. Do you have any idea how reckless that was?”
Grace lowered her head, her voice trembling. “You’re right. I was wrong. I’m sorry.”
Anger tightened Ethan’s chest. He had been furious that this careless girl forced him to cancel his business trip. Yet when he saw the sadness in her eyes as she apologized, something inside him softened against his will. Looking away, he muttered indifferently, “Next time, be careful.”
Grace bit her lip. The guilt only deepened. Because of her, this man is going to lose his job. She looked up hesitantly. “I understand you’re angry. Your boss must be furious too… after all, you hit me with his expensive car. And now he wants to fire you, right?”
Ethan froze, staring at her. Job?
Grace nodded seriously. “You don’t need to hide it. The doctor already told me everything. But I promise, I’ll talk to your boss myself. I’ll tell him it wasn’t your fault—I was the one who came in front of the car. I’ll even pay for the damage to the car. Please don’t worry, I’ll help you keep your job.”
Ethan stared at her in disbelief. Did she really think he was a mere driver? And who exactly was this ‘boss’ she kept mentioning? He was the owner of the car himself.
Just as he opened his mouth to correct her, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Grace called softly.
Ethan’s assistant, Noah Wilson, stepped inside carrying a bag. He glanced at his boss but before he could speak, Grace turned to him with pleading eyes.
“You must be his boss,” she said politely. “Please, don’t be angry with him. It wasn’t his fault. I was drunk and… thinking of ending my life. I jumped in front of the car myself. Please don’t fire him—he’s a good man. Otherwise, who would bother taking a stranger to the hospital these days? I’ll pay for the damage to your car, but please, let him keep his job.”
Noah froze, utterly confused, and looked at Ethan.
Meanwhile, Ethan hadn’t taken his eyes off Grace once. This girl—was she truly this innocent and kind, or was she playing some sort of game? He had seen countless women try to impress him by pretending to be soft and harmless.
But this girl? She was defending him, believing him to be nothing more than a poor driver.
For the first time in a long while, Ethan Marino felt genuinely intrigued.
If she was pretending, he wanted to see how long she could keep the act up.
And if she was truly this naïve and kindhearted… then he wanted to know just how far she would go to help him.
Ethan had quietly solved Grace’s problem by banning Emily from entering the finance department. When Lucas heard about it from his uncle’s assistant, he was utterly confused. Noha had walked into his office that morning and informed him firmly, “Mr. Ethan has instructed that Miss Emily should stop disturbing other employees. She is also not allowed to enter the finance department anymore.”Lucas frowned deeply. “Why is my uncle suddenly so concerned about Emily? Why would he ban her from the finance department?” he muttered under his breath. He looked up just as Emily walked into the office. She smiled sweetly at him, but Lucas’s expression was serious. “Did something happen in the finance department yesterday?” he asked, suspicion in his voice. “Did you do something, Emily?”Emily blinked, pretending to be innocent. “No, I didn’t do anything. Nothing happened. I just went to meet Grace and asked her for help with a small file. Why? What’s wrong?”Lucas crossed his arms, studying her
Grace followed Ethan into the café. The moment she stepped inside, she felt her heart became happy. The place wasn’t luxurious, yet it carried a quiet beauty. Warm golden lights glowed above polished wooden tables, the faint aroma of roasted beans lingered in the air, and a soft melody played in the background. A few students sat in corners reading, while an elderly couple shared a slice of cake by the window. It felt peaceful—something Grace hadn’t felt in a long time. Her lips curved into a small smile. “This café is really beautiful. I don’t know why, but it feels different from the others I’ve been to. I’ve never come here before.”Ethan’s eyes softened as he looked around the familiar place. “I used to come here a lot,” he said slowly, his voice carrying a touch of nostalgia. “Whenever I needed space… or when I felt stressed I used to come here. But in the past few years, i was so busy in my life that, I didn’t get the chance to come here anymore.”Grace tilted her head, asking him
The next morning, Grace woke up early, forcing herself out of bed despite the heavy feeling in her chest. She couldn’t afford to be late for work, not after everything that happened yesterday. By the time she reached the office, she had put on her calm, professional mask. The finance department was already buzzing with people shuffling papers, typing on keyboards, and rushing to finish their tasks. Grace sat down at her desk, ready to begin her day. She had just started reviewing some reports when she heard the sharp sound of heels clicking against the floor. The sound grew louder until it stopped right in front of her desk.Grace lifted her eyes, and her expression stiffened. Emily stood there, holding a tall stack of files. Her lips curved into a smirk that didn’t reach her eyes.Without asking, Emily placed the files onto Grace’s desk with a heavy thud.Grace frowned. “What is this?”Emily tilted her head innocently, though her tone was dripping with arrogance. “You’re going to co
Grace glanced at the man driving beside her. Only then did she realize—she didn’t even know his name yet. Gathering courage, she asked softly,“You never told me your name.”Ethan’s hands tightened slightly on the steering wheel. He couldn’t reveal his true identity to her. Keeping his eyes on the road, he replied casually,“Noha Willson.”Grace smiled faintly and nodded. “I see… I haven’t properly introduced myself either. My name is Grace.”Of course, Ethan already knew everything about her, but he only responded with a slight nod, saying nothing more. Soon, the car stopped at the address Grace had given him.She stepped out and looked at him gratefully.“Thank you for the lift. Actually, I want to thank you properly. Can you tell me when you’ll be free? I’d like to treat you to a coffee for saving me and giving me a ride.”Ethan’s lips curved in the faintest smile. “I’ll be free tomorrow evening.”“Perfect,” Grace said brightly. “Then tomorrow after office, coffee is on me.”Wavin
Lucas was about to say something when an employee walked in and said,“Sir, your uncle wants to meet you.”Lucas looked at Emily and spoke gently, “I’ll go see him. You wait for me in my office.”Emily nodded, and Lucas left. As soon as he was gone, Emily turned to Grace with a smirk.“I hope you’ll enjoy your time here, sister.”Grace didn’t bother replying. She simply ignored her and continued with her work.On the other side, Lucas reached his uncle’s office. He knocked, and when he heard “come in,” he stepped inside. Ethan was sitting at his desk, reading a file with a serious face.Lucas felt a little nervous. “You called me, Uncle?”Ethan closed the file and looked at him. His tone was cold.“Yes. I heard you brought the Wells family’s daughter into our company.”Lucas nodded slowly. “Y-yes, Uncle. She wanted to work here.”Ethan’s voice turned sharper.“Do you think this company is a charity? That anyone who wants to work here can just join? Does she even have the qualification
Grace looked toward Ethan and Noha after hearing the employee greet them with, “Good morning, CEO.”She turned to Noha in shock. “Are you… the CEO of this company? I… it means you are Ethan Marino?”Ethan quickly spoke up to cover, “You are right. He is the CEO of this company.”Grace felt her mind go blank. She thought she had finally cut all ties with Lucas, but now she owed money to his uncle. She had always heard from Lucas that his uncle was a strict and cold man. She had never seen him before, but Lucas had said enough for her to believe it.Ethan and Noha noticed Grace spacing out after hearing the name Ethan Marino, but they chose to stay silent.Grace forced a polite smile. “I will take my leave now, Mr. Ethan. I will pay back the money slowly.” After saying that, she turned and left.Ethan’s lips curved in amusement. Grace hadn’t reacted the way he expected. He thought that even if she didn’t know who he was, after hearing Noha’s name as Ethan Marino, she would definitely tr
